Hoy In Mi Gente News??? Kobe And Los Lakers Hand Bron Bron And El Heat Their First “Comeback” Victory

This also means the Lakeshow didn’t beat the Heat once this whole season. The Lakers could have finally wished their fans a Merry Christmas, along with a belated apology for their behavior back in December. Instead, they gift-wrapped a game Thursday and handed it to the Miami Heat. The Lakers’ messy last two minutes led to Miami’s 94-88 victory and ended two streaks at once — the Lakers’ eight-game surge and the Heat’s five-game skid. There was no getting even for a humiliating loss to Miami on Christmas Day after Kobe Bryant committed two late turnovers and missed two long three-point attempts, one from 28 feet at AmericanAirlines Arena. Bryant wasn’t the only one at fault. Ron Artest missed an open layup attempt with 1:04 left. Merry March, Miami. Or as Andrew Bynum said in his own way, “We tricked it, for sure. We definitely had an opportunity to win this game and we gave it away.” Their game Saturday in Dallas is more important to the Lakers, but this one was taken plenty seriously. Bryant warned teammates the previous day not to stay out late in always-rocking South Beach and to make sure the game was the focus of their trip to Miami. He had 24 points on a poor shooting night (eight for 21) and was still angry about it 30 minutes after the game. So he returned to the court and shot a slew of three-pointers and mid-range jumpers as three Heat ball boys fetched rebounds and fed him passes. His Lakers T-shirt was wet with sweat by the time he finished. He played almost 40 minutes in the game and stayed on the court for more than an hour afterward. “It’s my job,” Bryant said. “This is what you’re supposed to do if you’re not feeling comfortable with something and you feel like you can tweak some things.” The game ended feebly for a team that had been playing so robustly, beating Portland, Oklahoma City, San Antonio and Atlanta on the road since the All-Star break. Bryant started it by coughing the ball up to Dwyane Wade, who fed LeBron James for a dunk and 90-88 lead with 1:27 to play. Then Artest missed his easy shot. Then Bryant lost the ball out of bounds while going up for a shot down low. Then he lofted an off-balance, 28-foot, three-point attempt. By the time the misfires were added up, the Lakers had lost, though Coach Phil Jackson took the blame. As everyone knows, he rarely calls timeouts and often still has one or two in his pocket for end-of-game situations. This time, he called his last one with 46 seconds to play and the Lakers down by four. “I really took responsibility for screwing up the end of the game,” he said. “I had no timeouts…” As for Artest? “I should have made the layup, but they grabbed my arm, I got hit in my head, and then, well, goaltending too possibly, right?” Artest said. “But that’s an excuse, man. I should have made the layup.” The Lakers initially thought the Heat took the rebound with the ball still in the cylinder but stepped back from their thinking after conferring with their video coordinator. The Heat couldn’t be happier, ending a five-game losing streak that tugged on the franchise and its celebrated trio of All-Stars. “This was a very big game and we had everything riding on it,” said Heat forward Chris Bosh, who complained about his touches earlier this week and had 24 points on 10-for-17 shooting Thursday. You know who’s really happy? The owner of Whiskey Tango in Hollywood, FL, who promised to pay $25 of everyone’s bar tab every time the team lost. So far, it has cost John Todora $85K. Source

US Heat Waves Causing Trees to Change Colors (Video)

Photo via Nature in the Ozarks Man, it’s hot out there. How hot is it? Don’t worry, I’m not going to talk about climate change. I’m just trotting out some ideas for a Bob Hope-style comedy routine. And climate change would’ve probably been too edgy for Hope, anyway. So how hot is it? So hot that trees can’t decide what season it is. Okay, needs some work. But it’s true. Savannah Brinson: Loves LeBron James, Dislikes Miami Move

Unlike LeBron James, and Will Smith, Savannah Brinson is not a huge fan of Miami. The long-time girlfriend of the self-centered basketball star speaks out in the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar and says she isn’t excited about the couple’s move to Miami, now that James has wussed out and signed with the Heat. “Personally, Miami was not my favorite place. Vacationing there is great. You go for three days and get some sun and it’s time to go home,” she says. Brinson is quick to add that she isn’t “complaining,” though, and will make the “adjustment” to life on South Beach. Similarly, fans of LeBron have been forced to make an adjustment ever since the self-proclaimed “Chosen One” decided that he couldn’t win a title without joining up with two other NBA superstars, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. His legacy is tarnished forever as a result. Savannah has been dating James since high school and is the mother of the couple’s two kids, LeBron Jr., 5, and Bryce, 3. “I just love him so much,” she says of the Heat small forward. These days, Brinson is alone in that sentiment.

CON AIR: ON-BOARD THE US ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS FLIGHTS Channel 4 gains access to US border police and travels with illegal immigrants deported "back home"

“Everybody wants to stay, nobody wants to leave.” Channel 4 News gains exclusive access to US border police and travels with illegal immigrants deported “back home” to Guatemala. In the heat and humidity of a Texan morning a plane idles on the tarmac. This is an airline few will have heard of, but the tickets and meals are free for those flying today. We can see the silhouettes of guards clutching shotguns along the perimeter fence and officers with bullet proof jackets stand waiting for the passengers. From nowhere three prison buses slowly drive towards the plane and stop just a few meters short. We're boarding ICE Air – run by the US government to send hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants back home in the hope that they will stay there. And as the heat rises on the issue of illegal immigration, Channel 4 News has been given exclusive access to the way the United States deals with its illegal immigrants. For one week we see for ourselves the stress and strain on an overworked system and the often futile efforts to deport illegal immigrants many of whom come straight back over the border. CBS Host Admits Levi Johnston Apology ‘Highly Under-Reported’

On Friday’s CBS Early Show, fill-in co-host Erica Hill confessed Levi Johnston’s apology for making false statements about the Palin family was “highly under-reported.” During the ‘Early Wrap’ segment, Hill told a panel of media pundits: “My favorite story of the week, which was highly under-reported…is that Levi Johnston came out and said….Some things he said about the Palin family were not true.” It’s interesting that Hill used the phrase “under-reported,” when CBS did not cover Johnston’s admission at all since he made the statement in a Tuesday interview with People Magazine. Meanwhile, the network, and the Early Show in particular, heavily promoted Johnston’s claims about the Palins last year.    In response to Hill, panelist Joe Levy, editor-in-chief of Maxim Magazine, dismissed the revelation: “Wow. So, a teenager who breaks up with his girlfriend says untrue things about her and her family? That is a shocker. I don’t think that’s ever happened before.” Fellow panelist, Daily Show correspondent Olivia Munn, chimed in: “I think he needs to apologize for his Playgirl spread first and then go to the Palins….Because America is hurt, first and foremost, and then some people in Alaska.” Earlier in the panel discussion, Hill asked for reactions to the heat wave. Levy complained: “I don’t know when we moved to the surface of Venus.” CBS contributor Mo Rocca later pointed out: “We should not confuse weather with climate, though, right? This shouldn’t necessarily be an indication of climate change.” Levy replied: “No, but it would be nice if the global heating deniers who thought, ‘hey, it was cold last winter, there’s no such thing as global heating, right?’ now had to eat their words and say ‘hey, there’s a heat wave so-‘” Implying that she was one such “denier” Munn interrupted: “I prefer you to address me by my first name, Olivia.” Rocca then joked: “But even Al Gore would say that this is just Earth’s second chakra, just acting up a little bit.”   Here is a transcript of the two exchanges during the July 9 segment: 8:33AM ET ERICA HILL: What I want to know is – I’m impressed that you all survived – you survived the heat wave. You live here in New York City, Mo, how did you do it? Surviving the heat wave? MO ROCCA [CBS NEWS CONTRIBUTOR]: I did the only sensible thing I could do, I spent the weekend in Houston. I really did, I went to Houston. HILL: Where it felt cooler and less humid? ROCCA: There was actually a chill. I had to borrow a pashmina. It was that cold, in comparison. HILL: That’s unfortunate. ROCCA: Yes. HILL: What did you make of the heat wave, Joe? JOE LEVY [EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, MAXIM MAGAZINE]: I don’t know when we moved to the surface of Venus, I don’t understand. I thought I’d be consulted if we were making a planetary move, but no, we just – literally the building down the street from me was on fire yesterday, the roof, big roof fire down the street. HILL: That fire was crazy, I saw it. LEVY: I didn’t know how they knew it was that hot. No, nothing? [LAUGHTER] HILL: It was a nice try, though. OLIVIA MUNN [CORRESPONDENT, THE DAILY SHOW]: I’m from Oklahoma – you know, right above Texas, fun fact – and it’s very humid there all of the time. So I – when I would walk out, when people would talk about the heat, I wasn’t really – it’s hot? ROCCA: But the wind comes sweeping down the plain, doesn’t it? MUNN: When I’m in a covered wagon it does. ROCCA: Right, okay, with the fringe on the top. We should not confuse weather with climate, though, right? This shouldn’t necessarily be an indication of climate change. LEVY: No, but it would be nice if the global heating deniers who thought, ‘hey, it was cold last winter, there’s no such thing as global heating, right?’ now had to eat their words and say ‘hey, there’s a heat wave so-‘ MUNN: I prefer you to address me by my first name, Olivia. HILL: Oh. ROCCA: But even Al Gore would say that this is just Earth’s second chakra, just acting up a little bit. HILL: Very nice. ROCCA: Thanks. …. HILL: My favorite story of the week, which was highly under-reported – and I’m glad you’re sitting down for this – is that Levi Johnston came out and said that he had- LEVY: He came out? HILL: No, no. ROCCA: That’s amazing. HILL: He came out and said. MUNN: Man, let her finish. HILL: Thank you, Olivia. Some things he said about the Palin family were not true, not true. LEVY: Wow. So, a teenager who breaks up with his girlfriend says untrue things about her and her family? That is a shocker. I don’t think that’s ever happened before. MUNN: I think he needs to apologize for his Playgirl spread first and then go to the Palins. HILL: And then – because that was more egregious ? MUNN: Because America is hurt, first and foremost, and then some people in Alaska. ROCCA: Just when he thought he was out, they pull him right back in. It’s amazing, that family. HILL: The bond. ROCCA: Yes. HILL: The bond. Mo Rocca, Joe Levy, Olivia Munn, good to have you with us this morning. MUNN: Thanks for having us.
