Iron Woman? If Pepper Potts Has A Future In Armor, She Needs To Kick Villain Ass

If you’ve  read about the Iron Man 3 footage that Marvel Studios has shown to bloggers, then you know that, during the Mandarin’s helicopter attack on Casa Tony Stark ( Robert Downey Jr. ), Pepper Potts ( Gwyneth Paltrow ) ends up flying to safety in one of the armored suits. It sounds like a cool scene, and I won’t be surprised if it’s a set-up for another later in the movie. But I’m not so thrilled about Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige’s  recent comments that Potts could suit up for her own adventures in future Iron Man installments. Kevin Feige Talks About Pepper Potts’ Possible Future In Armor Here’s what Feige says in an interview with About.com : I will tell you this. In this movie [ Iron Man 3 ] we play with the convention of the damsel in distress. We are bored by the damsel in distress. But, sometimes we need our hero to be desperate enough in fighting for something other than just his own life. So, there is fun to be had with “Is Pepper in danger or is Pepper the savior?” over the course of this movie. In terms of where we go with future movies, we’ll see. In the comic books she does get a taste for the suit and becomes her own hero named Rescue, who doesn’t necessarily battle other people, but is on missions to help people and to save people. Will we do that down the line with Gwyneth Paltrow? Who knows. But her being in the suit is something we have been playing with since  Iron Man 2 , where we did some designs and it didn’t end up fitting in that movie. But the little taste you saw here [in an Iron Man 3 clip] is something that we’re certainly interested in. Why Pepper Potts As Rescue Is A Jump-The-Shark Idea I hope it’s a passing interest because the idea of Paltrow’s character donning her own metal suit (insert Spanx joke here) to rescue families threatened by a hurricane or some other catastrophe sounds like a jump-the-shark premise that is devoid of the tension and smart-assery that distinguishes the Iron Man movies. I’m not familiar with the comics storyline to which Feige refers, but “Rescue” sounds like a very Saturday-morning-cartoon name. And that’s where this G-rated idea belongs. If the Marvel Studios is serious about putting Goop-curating Gwynnie in full-metal jacket mode, then they’ve got to surprise the audience by having her play against type.  Contrary to what Feige says in this interview, Paltrow should be kicking super-villain ass Michelle Rodriguez -style to the point where Tony feels threatened by her superhero potential. Now that’s an Iron Man subplot. Feel free to contact my agent. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on  Twitter. Follow Movieline on  Twitter.

Billy Joel, Vanderbilt Student Perform "New York State of Mind": Watch Now!

It’s taken about a month for this to go viral, but it was worth the wait. Vanderbilt University student Michael Pollack went to see Billy Joel give a lecture/concert this winter when, during a Q&A session, he made the ballsiest request ever: Could he accompany his hero on “New York State of Mind”? Joel, awesomely, obliged … and it was incredible: Michael Pollack and Billy Joel You can see why the music legend gave him major props afterward. Pollack later talked about how the moment in January came about. He tells InsideVandy: “So I decided I was gonna go see Billy Joel right when we found out he was coming, and as a childhood idol of mine, right away I knew what I wanted to do when we went there.” “And the day came, I put together a question, and I was raising my hand, and my friends to the right of me kept pointing to me, and finally after a few questions he picked on me.” “I hesitantly said how ‘New York State of Mind’ was my favorite song, and how I had performed it with his saxophonist Richie Cannata in the past.” “I’ve been playing [the song] for at least eight years. I wondered if I could go up and play it with him. He thought for a little – he took a second – and then he just said okay.” “I had to tune up a little and learn the bridge one more time before the show just in case he called on me. But for the most part, it was by ear.” “I kind of lost myself playing. Then afterward he said to me … he said that I was great, where are you from … and I said, ‘I’m a Long Islander just like you.’ He was like, ‘Cool.’ Then I walked off, and that was it.” “It was probably the greatest moment of my life, up to date.” We imagine many more like it are still to come.

AshLee Frazier Calls Out Sean Lowe on The Bachelor: Did He Really Say That?!

One week after her stunning and controversial departure, AshLee Frazier called out Sean Lowe Monday on The Bachelor: Women Tell All special. She thought she had this thing locked up, and not just because she was admittedly in love with Sean. It was a comment he made about her competition. Allegedly, Sean said he had no feelings for Catherine Giudici and Lindsay Yenter – a quote he denied in the most surprising, awkward exchange of the night: AshLee Frazier Accuses Sean Lowe of Lying We didn’t expect a warm and fuzzy reunion after he took Catherine and Lindsay to the finale over her, but we weren’t prepared for that bombshell, either. Whomever he gives the final rose to next week (see The Bachelor spoilers if you dare) will come as a shock to AshLee, who accused Sean of lying. Before that terse back-and-forth, she just wanted answers. Clearly still stinging from her rejection on the previous week’s episode, the gorgeous 32-year-old Texan asked Sean the obvious, lingering question: WHY!? His response? She’s a great girl but basically no fun. AshLee Frazier certainly comes off more serious than Lindsay or Catherine, but she didn’t take kindly to the assertion that she isn’t best friend material. Or the fact that he led her on, which he argues he did not. Whatever Sean said, or did not say, this will go down as one of the most bitter breakups in franchise history, and ends any shot of her being The Bachelorette . That honor will likely fall to Desiree Hartsock or the runner-up on next week’s finale, which promises to be both polarizing and emotional to say the least. Speaking of, who do you think it’ll be? Did Sean already blow it? Vote in our three polls below and hit the comments, too: Did Sean make the right decision letting AshLee go?   Yes … she’s sweet but it wasn’t the right fit. No, Catherine should’ve been sent home! No, Lindsay should’ve been sent home! View Poll » Her behavior since leaving the show: Right or wrong?   Right! Way to stay strong and stand tall! Wrong! Immature and ungrateful! View Poll » Who do you want to win The Bachelor now?   Lindsay Yenter Catherine Giudici View Poll »

Iron Man 3: New Theatrical Trailer!

“I’m Tony Stark, I build neat stuff, I got a great girl and occasionally, save the world. So why can’t I sleep?” So narrates Robert Downey Jr. in the new (AWESOME!) trailer for Iron Man 3 , which opens this May and which will feature Tony forced to protect all that is dearest to him. Namely, Pepper Potts. A majority of the teaser builds up the feud between Iron Man and Ben Kingsley’s The Mandarin, who issues our hero a dire warning: Today is the first day of what’s left of your life . Watch now and let the countdown to 2013’s first blockbuster begin: Iron Man 3 Theatrical Trailer

Farrah Abraham: The Next Kim Kardashian?

At 21, Farrah Abraham is already a seasoned plastic surgery veteran. The young Teen Mom star has undergone a $5,000 breast augmentation, going from an A cup to a C cup in 2012, and recently revealed a new nose and chin. Those two Farrah Abraham plastic surgery procedures set her back $16,000 more, but it’s all worth it if it helps her look like her hero: Kim Kardashian! “Farrah thinks Kim is gorgeous and feels like they look a lot alike , especially now that Farrah had her nose and chin done,” says a source close to the star. “But as far as Farrah is concerned, [Kim Kardashian] is still prettier.” Bummer. What’s she gonna do about it? Not throw in the towel! “Farrah’s decided she needs to get cheek implants because she doesn’t have enough definition on her face. And she wants to be a D cup just like Kim.” The Iowa native is hoping to have a lucrative modeling career and thinks more surgery just might be what it takes to get her where she wants to be. “She is desperate for a modeling career and says she’ll do whatever it takes,” says the source, adding that she’s mulling a tummy tuck and facelift for the holidays. We think Farrah looks great, and looked equally as pretty before her surgeries, and she should leave her appearance intact! If she wants to be in her idol’s league, what she really needs to do is recruit some lucky guy, set up the camera and re-create the Kim Kardashian sex tape . Imitation is the highest form of XXX-rated flattery.

High and Low: ‘Qatsi’ Trilogy Is Hypnotic While Michael Caine Is Amusingly Idiotic In ‘The Island’

Get out your passports, kids, because we’re seeing the world. Director Godfrey Reggio’s epic Qatsi Trilogy, filmed around the world, will kick your home theater to the next level with its stunning visuals and complex soundtracks. Then it’s off to the Caribbean, where Michael Caine embarrassed himself in a Peter Benchley adaptation several years before starring in that really terrible Jaws sequel. Some people never learn. HIGH: The Qatsi Trilogy (The Criterion Collection; DVD or Blu-Ray, $79.95) WHO’S RESPONSIBLE: Three films from screen artist and environmental activist Godfrey Reggio: The legendary Koyaanisqatsi (1983), and its equally impressive follow-ups Powaqqatsi (1988) and Naqoyqatsi (2002). (All three titles are words from the Hopi language; respectively, they mean “life out of balance,” “life in transformation,” and “life as war,” so basically this set is “The Life Trilogy.”) WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: All three of these films defy easy synopsis, but here goes: Reggio uses compelling imagery and the music of Philip Glass to portray the stark contrast between the natural order and man’s inflicting of industry upon the planet (and upon his fellow men). A slow pan across a desert plain or along the face of a cliff might be contrasted with sped-up footage of cars driving through cities or hot dogs and Twinkies being processed in factories. One of the signature moments of Powaqqatsi shows a small child walking along the road, only to be engulfed in the sand cloud kicked up by a passing 18-wheeler. There’s no narration or dialogue, so what you take from these film is purely up to you. WHY IT’S SCHMANCY: This sort of non-verbal, non-narrative film generally gets relegated to museums and art installations, so for Reggio to have gotten mainstream theatrical (and DVD) distribution is something of a miracle. But even if you shy away from anything that even smacks of experimental, these movies are hypnotic and thought-provoking. (They may also play well in Washington and Colorado, if you get my drift.) WHY YOU SHOULD BUY IT (AGAIN): Just the fact that these films are being made available in Blu-Ray for the first time would be reason enough to plunk down for this set, but it’s a Criterion Collection release, which means it comes loaded with oodles of great extras. There are new and vintage interviews, TV spots, Reggio’s short film Anima Mundi , a demo version of Koyaanisqatsi with a scratch soundtrack featuring Allen Ginsberg , a chat with musicians Glass and Yo-Yo Ma, and a booklet featuring essays by film scholar Scott MacDonald, music critic John Rockwell and environmentalist Bill McKibben of 350.org. LOW: The Island (Scream Factory; $26.99 DVD+Blu-Ray Combo) WHO’S RESPONSIBLE: Written by Peter Benchley, based on his novel; directed by Michael Ritchie; starring Michael Caine and David Warner. WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT: Caine stars as a journalist investigating the disappearance of ships in the Bermuda Triangle. Traveling to the Caribbean with his estranged son (Jeffrey Frank), Caine discovers a hidden colony of pirates, descended from French marauders of centuries ago, raiding pleasure boats to stay alive. Caine gets raped by one of the lady pirates (they’re excited to get some non-inbred DNA into the pool) while Caine’s son is won over by the scalawags (led by Warner). Can our hero escape — and will he be able to convince his son to go with him? WHY IT’S FUN: Something of a legendary dud upon its original release (particularly since this marked a reunion of Benchley with Jaws producers Richard D. Zanuck and David Brown), The Island has become a cult fave in the ensuing decades among Benchley fans and bad-movie lovers alike. I think the film’s strengths lie with director Ritchie, one of the more underrated American auteurs of the 1970s and ’80s. (His films include Fletch , Smile , The Candidate and The Bad News Bears .) While this isn’t anywhere near his best work, Ritchie does what he can with the often risible source material — don’t ask too many questions about how this cabal of hidden pirates has survived for three centuries — and keeps things moving at a brisk clip. WHY YOU SHOULD BUY IT (AGAIN): Previously available only via Universal’s movies-on-demand label, this marks the first Blu-Ray release of the film. There’s not a single extra to be found, alas, and you you just know Caine would have some hilarious things to say about the experience if Scream Factory could have convinced him to do a commentary. Hey guys! My name is Amanda. I am all the way on the right in…

Hey guys! My name is Amanda. I am all the way on the right in green. I never thought I’d be writing a Bieber experience. EVER. In a million years. Here’s my story. A couple of years ago I almost killed myself. I had plans to do it,  and reason’s why I wanted to do it. I was bullied. There were a lot of family problems. I was just like ya know.. I don’t wanna live anymore. I got diagnosed being bipolar and I had to go to a treatment center to get help. I didn’t like it at all. I felt like I didn’t belong there. A couple of years later I was still having problems. Going in and out of different treatment centers, trying to get help. I then began drinking and smoking, and going down the wrong path. But then I eventually stopped when I found a peace with God. In February of 2011 I saw “Never say Never,” Justin Bieber’s movie. The whole time I was watching it I was completely starstruck. Everything about him just made me smile. The weird thing was, it wasn’t his looks that did it for me. It was his faith in God and how much he believed in Him. His mom became my hero and his whole team just made me smile. What they do for people just makes me wanna do good things for other people. That night I began buying posters, CDs, I attacked my wall in purple marker with all of his lyrics. I just felt like a connection with him, I couldn’t even explain. It was a peace I found with God and Justin at the same time. My family didn’t understand why I loved him so much. I think it was because honestly he was the only artist ever to help me keep believing in God. The only artist that made me believe in myself and who I was. I think the time that I really found hope was when his acoustic album came out. I completely fell in love. I would just sit in my room everyday with it blasting. I would have my eyes closed and I would sing along with little harmonies because I’m a singer myself. On December 5th 2012 I met Justin at Philly’s Jingle Ball 2012. I got the tickets and the meet and greet from a family friend. After praying for an extremely long time it was finally happening. I never thought it would happen because my family doesn’t have enough money to buy meet & greets or buy tickets to his concert. The fact that this was happening I couldn’t even breathe. I was going to tell him how he changed my life. Little did I know this dream would be shot down. I got in the meet and greet line with my sister and they told us that they had to put us in a group of 10. I was devastated, only because I knew I wasn’t going to get to stand next to him. Then the one lady pulled me and my sister in the room by our wrists and pushed us in there. Justin came out. We got in the line for the picture, posed for the photo and then I was pushed away from him. I couldn’t even say how I really felt. I couldn’t even thank him, or say hey. It was all too fast and I felt disrespected by all the workers from Q102.  I cried after the meet & greet because I thought I would never get another chance. I am very thankful I got the chance to be in the same room as him and see him in concert. I’m never going to give up hope that I’ll meet him again – only without the guards pushing me away. Where I can have at least 5 minutes of me explaining to him how he affected me in such a positive manner. I love him with all of my heart. Justin I hope you see this and try and contact me! I love you beliebers. Never give up hope. We are a FAMILY and always will be. – Amanda  Go here to read the rest: Hey guys! My name is Amanda. I am all the way on the right in…

Jake Pavelka and Kristin Chenoweth: Dating?!

Kristin Chenoweth is apparently dating Jake Pavelka of The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Bachelor Pad and Dancing With the Stars fame for whatever reason. Seriously, there’s a photo of them on a date near his home in Texas. The “couple” were seen getting cozy at a diner in West Hollywood earlier this fall. That was one thing. Lunch at a cafe in Highland Village, Texas? Another. A witness who reported the sighting says they weren’t kissing or anything, but were seen holding hands and “they were veeeerrryy attentive to one another.” The Tony Award-winning Chenoweth, 44, is 10 years older than her man. Jake Pavelka is mature beyond his years, though, as he proved when he sold out Wes Hayden on The Bachelorette , or when he picked Vienna Girardi, or … We’ve got some Bachelor spoilers for you, Kristin. It may not end well.

Jenny Johnson on Chris Brown Feud: I’m NOT Sorry!

Comedian Jenny Johnson is opening up about the vulgar Chris Brown Twitter feud she started last weekend … but let’s be clear here, this is NOT an apology. “I just want to clear some things up,” Johnson wrote in a post for GQ . “This is not an apology. My first thought following my Twitter exchange with Chris Brown this past Sunday was to just ignore it until it went away.” “The Twitter exchange I’m referencing would be the one in which he tweeted thathe looked old for 23, and I replied with a not-so-kind comment.” “From there we discussed farts, spelling, past events, bushpigs, and the part of my eye which he wanted to go number two on. It ended with him deactivating his Twitter account.” Jenny Johnson went on to say that she doesn’t “regret” the feud, but certainly didn’t expect it to receive so much attention, like when The View weighed in on it. She also made reference to the fact that, in one of her tweets, she linked to a news story pertaining to Chris Brown’s infamous 2009 assault on Rihanna. For Jenny, that’s what this is all about – but not for the reason you might assume. “I’ve had people assume I dislike Chris Brown because I’m taking up for Rihanna, I’m not,” she said. “I’m on the side of good, of equality and respect for my fellow woman.” “I was raised to not respect a person who doesn’t respect others. And one human being physically harming another human being is one of the most disrespectful acts there is.” Johnson also assured Chris’ fans – who responded to the beef with death threats against her – that despite him peacing out of Twitter, all hope is not lost: “Don’t worry Team Breezy, your hero is on Instagram under the handle F–kYoPictures. #Classy.” Whose side are you on?   Team Chris! Team JJ! View Poll »
