Casal was out with his girlfriend when from he was brutally attacked from behind by a gang wielding golf clubs. The attackers were identified as her ex-boyfriend and his friends. Medical reports are that Casal has a possible broken arm, multiple lacerations, including one at least 12 inches long. Casal was in preparation for the biggest fight of his career on June 29th in his hometown of Niagara Falls against Ruslan Provodnikov (21-1, 14 KOs) for the WBO Inter-Continental title. The fight was to be the main event of a nationally televised card on ESPN2′s Friday Night Fights. Obviously Casal will now not be able to fight on this date. As a result, security at several airports in the U.K. and elsewhere in Europe and the Middle East has been substantially stepped up, with a focus on U.S. carriers. Additional federal air marshals have also been shifted overseas in advance of the anniversary. A year ago Tuesday night, President Obama announced on live television that bin Laden had been killed in a U.S. raid on a compound in Pakistan. Rick Santorum announced that he is suspending his presidential campaign, all but putting an end to the Republican primary: “We made a decision to get into this race at our kitchen table, against all the odds, and we made a decision over the weekend that while this presidential race is over for me, and we will suspend our campaign effective today, we are not done fighting,” Santorum said during an address in Gettysburg, Pa. During his 14-minute speech, Santorum notably did not endorse Mitt Romney. The Pennsylvania Republican had taken a break from the campaign trail for several days to tend to his ailing daughter, Bella. He had pledged to continue campaigning through the upcoming Pennsylvania primary. But the combination of his daughter’s sickness and recent poll numbers showing him possibly losing his home state apparently prompted the early departure. According to Yahoo! News, Santorum called Romney earlier in the day to inform him of his decision to suspend his campaign. The former senator also made a call to campaign operatives to relay his decision. Theraflu Releases Statement Saying They Do Not Endorse Or Approve Of Kanye West’s References To Product In New Song Kanye West may end up in hot water with some cold medicine… Theraflu has issued a statement over Kanye’s latest “masterpiece” which was named after the brand. According to TMZ reports : A company rep tells TMZ, “We in no way endorse or approve of the references or use of the image and likeness of Theraflu in this manner.” Kanye named the song after the cold medicine because he’s so cold to his enemies they need a big dose. As you probably know by now, the song reveals Kanye’s love for his new GF, Kim Kardashian. Theraflu reps did not say they would sue the singer, but their statement includes buzz words — image and likeness — that are often used in legal proceedings. And this is priceless. In the statement, the Theraflu rep adds, “Theraflu is an over-the-counter product used to help relieve cold and flu symptoms that millions of consumers rely on.” We doubt Theraflu will actually sue Ye, it sounds more like they just wanted an extra opportunity to pitch their product. A Florida pastor plans a news conference Monday to call on presidential candidate Mitt Romney to renounce his “racist” Mormon faith : The Rev. O’Neal Dozier, senior pastor of The Worldwide Christian Center Church on Pompano Beach, Fla., says Democrats and President Barack Obama would use Romney’s “racist religion as a secret weapon” to attack the Republican in the general election. “The Mormon religion is prejudiced against blacks, Jews and the Native American Indians,” Dozier says in a release previewing the news conference. “These allegations are substantiated and validated by the writings of the former prophets and seers of the Mormon church.” What Dozier’s release doesn’t mention is that he’s a supporter of rival Republican contender Rick Santorum, and, according to news reports, an honorary chairman of his Florida campaign. The Santorum campaign on Friday touted Dozier as one of its conservative leader endorsements. Santorum spoke in January at Dozier’s church, where the senior pastor noted that blacks will not vote for a Mormon because of the LDS faith’s racial history. The POTUS got ya back boo. President Obama called Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke on Friday to offer her words of encouragement amid a controversy involving Rush Limbaugh’s words toward her. Obama called Fluke shortly before her appearance on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” Fluke said in a subsequent appearance on the program. “He encouraged me and supported me and thanked me for speaking out about the concerns of American women,” Fluke said in her description of the call. “What was really personal for me was that he said to tell my parents that they should be proud.” Fluke has become an unwitting figure in the middle of a political battle over access to contraception that has ensnared Washington in recent weeks. She favors increased access to contraception, and testified to that effect before a congressional panel assembled by Democrats. In reaction to Fluke’s testimony, Limbaugh said on his radio show that Fluke was a “slut,” because, by asking for access to birth control subsidized by an insurer, she was essentially asking to be paid for sex. Democrats have vocally criticized Limbaugh for the remark, and a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner labeled the conservative radio giant’s comments as “inappropriate.” There’s a political element to the battle over contraception and Fluke’s testimony. Democrats believe that they can highlight critics like Limbaugh and other Republicans to portray the GOP as out of touch, especially to women voters. Republicans, on the other hand, believe there is political traction in framing the battle in Washington as a fight against government encroachment on religion. (The origin of the battle stems from an Obama administration regulation that would have required employers, even if they have moral objections to it, to provide access to contraception as part of their health insurance policy for employees.) His office says she’s lying, but something tells us she ain’t. Karen Lewis, the Chicago Teacher’s Union President, and Mayor Rahm Emanuel have a testy relationship at best. But it wasn’t always that way. The two leaders met privately last year ahead of Emanuel’s inauguration. They went for dinner and to attend a dance — both are fans of the art form — and to develop a working relationship. “We were both seeing who the other person was,” she said. Lewis said she got her answer about Emanuel’s character rather quickly. “In that conversation, he did say to me that 25 percent of the students in this city are never going to be anything, never going to amount to anything and he was never going to throw money at them.” She said the comment took her aback, and she looked at him askance. “Even if you feel that way, you can’t say that to me,” she said. “And he sort of poo-pooed it and we moved on.” The Mayor’s Office said Lewis made up the anecdote. “That’s simply false,” said Emanuel Press Secretary Sarah Hamilton. “The Mayor is committed to making sure that every single child in Chicago has access to an excellent education, which is why he is fighting so hard to transform the Chicago public schools that have failed our children year after year.” Lewis says the mayor says one thing in public and another in private. “I’ve only been in office a year and a half — I’m a classroom teacher — and nobody told me that when you say crazy stuff you’re not supposed to discuss it. And we talk about transparency and opening things up and having a real conversation about things… If you say one thing privately and another thing publicly, then how do we negotiate that?” During the interview, which will play in full on Friday’s edition of Ward Room the Television Show, Lewis said what really rubbed her the wrong way about the comment, and what prompted her to speak out, was that the mayor is often seen walking and talking with students who could be the very same ones she says he said he would never help. You can tell this chick ain’t been in politics but for a minute cuz she threw ol’ Rahm RIGHT UNDER THE BUS!
