For The Feminist Stans: Beyoncé Puts On Her Thinking Wig Cap And Pens Essay On Gender Equality

Yes, she can read and write for herself…. Beyonce Writes Essay On Gender Equality King Bey put on her thinking wig and recently wrote an essay titled “Gender Equality Is a Myth!” for the new installment of Maria Shriver’s Shriver Report , a study that the journalist publishes alongside the Center for American Progress. She writes: We need to stop buying into the myth about gender equality. It isn’t a reality yet. Today, women make up half of the U.S. workforce, but the average working woman earns only 77 percent of what the average working man makes. But unless women and men both say this is unacceptable, things will not change. Men have to demand that their wives, daughters, mothers and sisters earn more—commensurate with their qualifications and not their gender. Equality will be achieved when men and women are granted equal pay and equal respect. Humanity requires both men and women, and we are equally important and need one another. So why are we viewed as less than equal? These old attitudes are drilled into us from the very beginning. We have to teach our boys the rules of equality and respect, so that as they grow up, gender equality becomes a natural way of life. And we have to teach our girls that they can reach as high as humanly possible. We have a lot of work to do, but we can get there if we work together. Women are more than 50 percent of the population and more than 50 percent of the voters. We must demand that we all receive 100 percent of the opportunities. Bey makes a strong case . What do you think of her piece? The report, which is titled “A Woman’s Nation Pushes Back from the Brink” also includes essays from Hillary Clinton, LeBron James and others can be found HERE

Hillary Clinton Responds to Heckler, Urges Civility and Discourse

At a speech on Wednesday in Buffalo, N.Y., former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took on a heckler by encouraging him to … not heckle. Clinton made it clear that citizenship doesn’t include yelling. “It includes sitting down and talking,” she said, to a rousing ovation from the 6,500 on hand. Hillary Clinton Heckled Re: Benghazi The man, who had been yelling from an upper section of the bleachers during the event at University of Buffalo, was eventually led away by security. He screamed “Benghazi, Benghazi, you let them die” in reference to the 9/11/12 terror attack on a U.S. Embassy in Libya in which four Americans died. “We can’t move from crisis to crisis,” she said, according to reports, “we have to be willing to come together as citizens to focus on the kind of future we want.” It has been a particularly divisive few years in the nation’s capital, capped off by the recent government shutdown and the looming debt ceiling fight. The general public is none too pleased. According to a poll released earlier this month, 72 percent of Americans opposed the shutdown and 74 percent disapprove of the job done by GOP Republicans. Respondents also opposed by 64 to 27 percent the idea of blocking an increase in the nation’s debt ceiling as a way to stop Obamacare from implementation. Congressional Democrats and President Barack Obama didn’t fare much better, though, posting 32 percent and 45 percent job approval ratings in the survey. No matter which side of the spectrum they’re on, maybe it’s time for congressional leaders to take Clinton’s advice and just talk through their issues? So that instead of reporting on partisan gridlock and letting the prospects for a brighter future grow dimmer by the day, we could actually get stuff done? Novel concept, we know.

Republicans to Boycott CNN, NBC 2016 Presidential Debates Over Hillary Clinton Features?

The Republican National Committee has voted to boycott any presidential debates on CNN and NBC if they proceed with their planned Hillary Clinton TV features. RNC Votes to Boycott Debates Over Clinton TV Specials With no audible dissent, GOP officials approved a resolution backing the position on the debates at their annual summer meeting in Boston on Friday. The RNC says a Clinton documentary and miniseries – in the works over at CNN and NBC, respectively – will put a “thumb on the scales” in 2016. The draft resolution, obtained by Fox News in advance and later voted on by RNC officials, calls these “political ads masked as unbiased entertainment.” Basically, the RNC believes CNN and NBC are Hillary 2016 co-chairs. If those programs appear on the networks, Republicans will not. “The RNC will neither partner with these networks in the 2016 presidential primary debates nor sanction any primary debates they sponsor,” the group says. Before the vote, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus decried what he called the “obvious bias” of a network that would spotlight Clinton in this fashion: “CNN and NBC anchors will just have to watch on their competitors’ networks . The media overplayed their hand this time. We’re done putting up with this nonsense.” “There are plenty of other outlets. We’ll still reach voters, maybe more voters.” The resolution claims the programming by CNN and NBC would show “political favoritism” in the election and jeopardize the credibility of the networks. Last month, CNN Films announced it was producing a documentary on Hillary Clinton to premiere next year, first in theaters and then on CNN. NBC also announced a four-hour Hillary miniseries starring Diane Lane, on the life of the former Secretary of State and First Lady of the United States.

Christopher Dormer, Suspected Killer, Gushes Over Celebrities on Facebook

Christopher Dormer , a former LAPD Officer suspected of killing three people, left a rambling manifesto on Facebook that gave shout-outs to a wide range of celebrities. Aside from blaming other law enforcement officials for his predicament, Dormer gushes over Hillary Clinton (saying she’ll make “one hell of a president” and refers to Charlie Sheen as “effin awesome.” He believes Kelly Clarkson and Kate Winslet are among “THE MOST beautiful women on this planet” and he simply sends congratulations to Ellen DeGeneres. He thinks Christoph Waltz is headed for “greatness” and Tim Tebow is a “great football player.” Dormer also says he wants his brain to be preserved for scientific research, admitting has been “afflicted with severe depression” since being relieved of duty on June 26, 2008. Finally, there’s evidence Dormer took action aside from his words. “Learned today suspect Christopher Dorner sent me a parcel at CNN,” Anderson Cooper Tweeted a few hours ago. “Inside was a note, DVD, and a coin shot thru with bullet holes.” Scary stuff. Also scary? Dormer is still on the loose.

Joe Biden Hints at 2016 Presidential Run

President Obama’s inaugural address took place just hours ago, but V.P. Joe Biden is already hinting that he wants to replace his boss. In 2016, that is. At a gathering of influential Iowans Saturday, the gaffe-prone Veep said, “I’m proud to be the president of the United States.” Joe Biden: Proud to Be President! Biden, who unsuccessfully sought the presidency in 1988 and 2008, will be 73 in 2016, making him the oldest person ever elected president. There’s also the matter of Hillary Clinton, Obama’s outgoing Secretary of State and the odds-on favorite for the Democratic nomination … if she runs. Clinton would be 69 and the second-oldest president elected (after Ronald Reagan), incidentally. Whether either actually runs is anyone’s guess. Still, here are other recent hints that Biden is thinking about it: 1. New Hampshire is influential. Among the 120 guests Biden invited to his swearing-in for a second term? New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan. 2. So is Iowa. It was at the Iowa State Society inauguration ball where he mistakenly said, “I’m proud to be president of the United States.” 3. On Election Day in November, Biden dismissed the notion that would be the last time he’d vote for himself. “No, I don’t think so,” he said. 4. Campaigning in October, Biden joked to a voter that, “after its all over, when your insurance rates go down, then you’ll vote for me in 2016.” 5. “There’s plenty of time to think about 2016,” he said last summer. “If three years from now the economy is not working, it’s not going to be worth doing much.” Or if could’ve just been a mistake when he made the above quote. When introducing V.P. candidate Paul Ryan last summer, Mitt Romney referred to him as “the next President of the United States” … which he still could be. What do you think? Would/should Joe Biden run in 2016?

Bill Clinton Introduces Lincoln, Receives Standing Ovation at Golden Globe Awards

The 2013 Golden Globes did not lack for star power – or surprises. From Jodie Foster’s speech to Will Farrell and Kristen Wiig’s hilariousness and Glenn Close’s (non) drunkenness, memorable moments came early and often. And did we mention a former President of the U.S. showed up? Bill Clinton at Golden Globes Receiving a standing ovation upon arriving, none other than Bill Clinton gave an inspirational introduction to the Steven Spielberg instant classic Lincoln . Golden Globes co-host Amy Poehler gushed after the segment, in homage to her Parks & Recreation character, “That was Hillary Clinton’s husband!” What was your favorite Golden Globes moment from Sunday?

12 Memes of Christmas: The Year in Internet Phenomena!

From Gangnam Style to the Sloppy Swish, Angelina Jolie leg thrusts to Chris Brown neck tattoos, and grumpy cats to photogenic peeps, 2012 was a great year for memes. On this Christmas Day, THG looks back at 12 of the best photos, videos, trends and topics that captured the Internet’s fascination (and creativity) over the past 12 months. Here’s what was imitated, parodied and shared with a vengeance in 2012: 12. Stingray Photo Bomb . Best. Photo. Bomb. Ever. The expression on the face of the aquatic resident of the waters off the Cayman Islands – and the terrified tourists he surprised – really says it all. 11. Chris Brown Neck Tattoos . After Chris Brown got a ridiculous neck tattoo (which many thought was a battered Rihanna), the Internet exploded with parodies. Lindsay Lohan with a tattoo of herself smashed? Classic. 10. Ridiculously Photogenic Guy (and Girl) . Whether they’re running a marathon or recovering from major surgery, some people are just too photogenic for words. If you can pry yourself away from staring at them, let’s move on! 9. Grumpy Cat . This sourpuss cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, first scratched the Internet with delight in September, inspiring a whole series of images like this. Felines aren’t known for being jovial, but wow. Cheer up, Grumpy Cat! 8. Ermahgerd . This absurd photograph of a vest-sporting girl holding Goosebumps books debuted in March and birthed a deluge of Ermahgerd talk (or “Berks” speak). We don’t really get it either. 7. Eastwooding . Perhaps the most memorable moments of the Republican National Convention came not from Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan, but from Clint Eastwood. Not a good sign for the party’s prospects, but a terrific source of material for the web, which watched Clint berating an Invisible Obama in an empty chair and went nuts. Overly Attached Girlfriend 6. Overly Attached Girlfriend . This wild-eyed chick and her parody of Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” just made everybody else’s clingy girlfriend seem really laid back. Seriously. Stalker much? 5. Angelina Jolie Leg Thrust . The actress’ forced, exposed-leg pose was probably the most talked-about, and spoofed, moment of the Academy Awards. We’re not sure if that says more about Ange or the Oscars. 4. Binders Full of Women . Mitt Romney made a strong run for the White House down the stretch, but his campaign was not without its verbal gaffes and head-scratchers. There was the 47 percent video , sure, but the web really had fun with his debate quips, such as threatening to fire Big Bird or references to binders full of women in Mass. PSY – GANGNAM STYLE Sloppy Swish 3. Gangnam Style / Sloppy Swish (tie) . PSY’s hit song is the most-watched video in the history of YouTube, making it a lock for a top three spot on this countdown. SNL’s “Mokiki and the Sloppy Swish” is an equally awesome, yet unheralded gem, however. Even if it is just a really stupid dance created by a crazy person. 2. Texts From Hillary Clinton . A photo of a badass-looking Hillary Clinton checking her phone inspired an entire Tumblr blog devoted to facetious texts from the Secretary of State. Takes a lot to impress Hill. Not unlike another notable, albeit younger gal: 1. McKayla Is Not Impressed . By like anything. After winning a silver medal in the vault at the London Olympics, the American gymnast was a but underwhelmed. Her momentary disappointment at losing out on gold gave way to one of 2012’s funniest memes, with McKayla’s “not impressed” smirk photoshopped across the web. Ryan Gosling shirtless. The royal wedding. The Grand Canyon. Marines raising the flag over Iwo Jima. Blah, blah, blah. Even the POTUS got in on the act! How many of these do you remember? Did we leave any out? Share your comments below and tell us which is your favorite, and which (if any) we snubbed!
