Before he hurts some feelings on his forthcoming Cold Day In Hell mixtape, Freddie Gibbs is going to keep pushing last year’s very good Str8 Killa EP. It’s no doubt inspired by his upringing in Gary, Ind., though I’m sure he’s run into similar… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : prefixmag Discovery Date : 08/04/2011 18:40 Number of articles : 2

Ice Cube Insists Rhymes Are Shout-Outs, Not Disses

Forthcoming album I Am The West references Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, DJ Yella By Jayson Rodriguez Ice Cube Photo: MTV News Shots fired? Well, not quite. Ice Cube toys with some pretty popular names on his forthcoming album, I Am The West , spitting rhymes that leave Jay-Z, Dr. Dre and DJ Yella’s monikers in murky waters. But the veteran MC says that, upon closer listen, his lyrics are just referencing others for context — they aren’t personal attacks. “To me, it’s styling and finesse, that’s where I come from,” Cube told MTV News after previewing the album. “It’s a lot of MCs out there, it’s not dissing [them]. I guess when you mention these MCs that’s at the top of the game and you mention yourself in there, you letting [people] know you on top of your game, too. It’s on that tip. It’s just fresh, fly-ass lines. I couldn’t let them go once I thought of them; I had to write them down. But it’s not dissing.” Earlier this year, Cube released “Drink the Kool-Aid,” which featured the lines: “I ain’t the doctor/ This ain’t the patient/ This ain’t that n—a always on vacation/ This ain’t no white boy’s rehabilitation/ This is crazier then a boatful of Haitians.” The blogosphere jumped to a quick conclusion that the Los Angeles rapper was taking aim at his former N.W.A groupmate Dr. Dre. Cube, however, took to his Web site and . “I met Dr. Dre in the studio last night,” Cube wrote. “When I got there, Snoop was in the booth laying the finishing touches on another classic from the dynamic duo. He played me some tracks set for the up-and-coming Detox record and we talked about me jumping on board the project. Of course I talked about him doing sh– on my record, and he said he’d bless the album.” Last month, though, Cube told MTV News he and Dre for I Am The West . “He’s been M.I.A. for two to three months now,” Cube said, laughing. “But I don’t feel bad, because Snoop can’t find him either.” Related Artists Ice Cube

Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane Filmed Parts For ‘We Be Steady Mobbin’ ‘ Separately

Exclusive clip shows Gucci talking to Ciara about shooting video, which premieres Sunday on MTV Jams. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: C. Flanigan/ FilmMagic Lil Wayne got his sentencing in New York delayed couple of times this year. But if he’d seen just one more postponement for his one-year prison term, he and Gucci Mane’s work on the “We Be Steady Mobbin’ ” video probably would have been a bit easier. As it was the Wayne turned himself in just a week before Gucci was freed from prison. And so the two had to film their parts for the clip, which is scheduled to premiere on MTV Jams this Sunday, separately. “We shooting my part, but Wayne already shot his part before going to jail,” Gucci Mane told Ciara during a phone call in an exclusive clip provided to MTV News by DJ Scoob Doo. Scoob Doo directed the “We Be Steady Mobbin’ ” video, and behind-the-scenes footage of the clip will be available on his forthcoming DVD “Entourage: Fetti Holmes Edition.” The project serves as a preview to his and Lil Wayne’s collaborative DVD effort “The Nino Brown Story Pt. 3.” “I chose the title of ‘Entourage’ because this is — in my opinion — the heavy hitters of the game,” Scoob told MTV News about the preview project, which will include footage of Lil Wayne, Jadakiss and Drake. “It happens that I have personal relationships with them. It made sense not to sit on the footage, not to sit on the exclusive content. A lot of people are waiting for that ‘Nino Brown Story’ with Lil Wayne. But this is something you can watch to keep you in suspense and satisfy that hunger.” Related Artists Lil Wayne Ciara Gucci Mane

Christopher Nolan Finds Meaning In ‘Superman’ Adaptation

‘Whether you’re doing a ‘Batman’ or ‘Superman’ film, it’s all about story first,’ ‘Inception’ director says. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Christopher Nolan Photo: MTV News Of the many accomplishments that director Christopher Nolan achieved with “Batman Begins” in 2005, one of the greatest involved his ability to craft a compelling comic book adaptation while maintaining a surprising level of realism. Nolan’s down-to-earth, non-superhero approach to the Batman mythos owed much thanks to the character’s lack of superpowers — but when he puts his stamp on Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s forthcoming “Superman” reboot, he’ll likely have to try a different approach with the invulnerable Man of Steel. As the producer of the upcoming “Superman” film, Nolan is already hard at work on the story alongside his “Dark Knight” collaborators Jonah Nolan and David S. Goyer, but the project remains so early in development that casting hasn’t even been considered yet. “I haven’t even thought about it, to be honest,” Nolan told MTV News during a recent press junket for “Inception,” his forthcoming thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio. “All of these things, whether you’re doing a ‘Batman’ or ‘Superman’ film, it’s all about story first. It’s all about figuring out exactly the tone and the meaning of the story and how you’re going to approach it. Casting comes later. All of those considerations come later.” Even if casting isn’t an immediate concern, Nolan already has plenty of history to look toward as he and his collaborators find the story for “Superman.” For Nolan himself, the filmmaker considers director Richard Donner’s first adaptation in 1978 as something to aspire to. “I was hugely struck by the Donner films in the ’70s when I was a kid,” he said. “In 1978, I saw [“Superman”] and it had such epic scope to it. It took on this incredible, iconic figure and gave that iconic figure an appropriate framing. It made quite an impression on me. It’s definitely one of my childhood touchstones of what epic cinema can be.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Inception.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . It’s a Justin Bieber World

My World, if you’re in Justin Bieber’s shoes, is not just the name of his album … or his second album, My World 2.0 . It’s what the teenage baller rules. Hard. The rest of us just live here. He should really charge rent. Sure, the dude could keep a lid on it sometimes, saying Miley Cyrus isn’t his type or that Mariah Carey is past her prime . But his sales back up his attitude. My World 2.0 topped the album charts this week, making Justin Bieber the youngest male solo artist ever to score a No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. HIS WORLD : Justin Bieber. Cannot. Be. Stopped. The prepubescent singer is also the youngest male solo artist to score two simultaneous albums in the top five (as My World rounds out this week’s list). With his forthcoming national tour dates and an upcoming April 10 appearance on Saturday Night Live , Bieber is inching closer to pop culture domination. Oh who are we kidding, he’s already dominated. Just be grateful you can even check out our gallery of Justin Bieber pictures and bow down to the king.

David Guetta Featured On Akon’s Upcoming Album

‘He’s an incredible producer,’ ‘Kon says of Guetta, set to perform at this year’s Winter Music Conference in Miami. By Akshay Bhansali Akon Photo: MTV News For the past two years, David Guetta has been on a house music DJ/producer’s dream run. He has had commercial success doing what few of his colleagues in the electronic world have been able to do: He’s making club music that has American urban artists biting at his heels, has soared into the U.S. charts with a series of monster singles and, after being nominated in three categories, he walked away with the Grammy for Best Remixed Recording for his single “When Love Takes Over,” featuring Kelly Rowland. One of his most lasting accomplishments was last year’s Black Eyed Peas single “I Gotta Feeling,” a track he produced that spent 14 weeks at the #1 position on the Billboard Hot 100, selling over 5 million downloads through February of this year. In addition to Rowland, his album One Love featured notable singles with Estelle (“One Love”) and Kid Cudi (the internationally charting “Memories”). And then there is his most successful single as a solo artist, “Sexy Chick” featuring Akon , which peaked in December of last year at #5 and now, months later, is still perched at #20 on the Hot 100 list. MTV News had chance to catch up with Akon recently on the set of Quincy Jones’ video for his forthcoming album single, “Strawberry Letter 23,” where he broke down a bit of Guetta’s genius for us. “He’s an incredible DJ, first of all,” ‘Kon said. “Second, he’s an incredible producer. He’s the kind of guy that goes outside the box, so we spoke the same language on the production side of things. We just wanted to do something that no one had thought to put together and before you know it, man, we just got together and came up with the most incredible record.” Lately rumors have been swirling that Guetta has produced a song for Rihanna, and that he also recorded with one of Akon’s artists, Lady Gaga, but that turned out to have been just a meeting of mutual appreciation. Still, ‘Kon did reveal to expect another treat courtesy of the “Sexy Chick” pair on his forthcoming album, Stadium. “I got some incredible collaborations,” Akon said. “I just can’t let you know yet. But I can give you a hint: Guetta will be a part of that record as well. It’s gonna be … just wait. I don’t want to overhype it. I just want to put it out and let you see.” If you can’t wait that long, Guetta will be headlining the Ultra Music Fest at the Winter Music Conference in Miami . Also featured at the fest will be Will.I.Am, Deadmau5, Swedish House Mafia, Major Lazer, Calvin Harris, LMFAO, Tiesto, A-Trak and many more. Stick with MTV News for more coverage of the Winter Music Conference, which kicks off Tuesday in Miami. Related Artists David Guetta Akon
