‘We’re all from different backgrounds, but music brings us together,’ Pitbull tells MTV News. During his medley of hits including “Rain Over Me,” “International Love” and “Give Me Everything,” the Miami rapper shared the stage with Nayer, Ne-Yo and Chris Brown. “For me, what it’s about is showing that music is the universal language. It shows you that no matter where you’re from, what you represent, where you grew up or no matter what your culture or background may be, music brings everybody together,” Pitbull told MTV News from his dressing room at the Amway Center in Orlando after his performance. “To have Chris Brown come out, to have Ne-Yo come out, Nayer come out — we’re all from different backgrounds, but music brings us together.” With his performance, Pit embodied what the NBA All-Star game is all about: bringing superstar talents together and putting their skills on display. Onstage, Pitbull and company did just that as they rocked the thousands of fans at the Amway Center. Pitbull has performed at so many big events, but when asked where his halftime NBA All-Star show ranked, he couldn’t quite put a number on it. “As far as a rating, I’d rate it a blessing,” he said. Robin Thicke: Arrested For Marijuana Possession

Singer Robin Thicke has been arrested for marijuana possession in N.Y. City. According to law enforcement, the 34-year-old was busted Friday in Manhattan near Madison Square Park. Police claim they saw him lighting up a joint in a black SUV. He was extremely cooperative, at least, and even signed a few autographs. “He wasn’t driving,” a police source said Friday. “He was sitting in the car. He was arrested and a small amount of marijuana was recovered on him.” There was another passenger in the luxury SUV at the time of the incident, but Thicke was the only person to be arrested, apparently. His arrest follows his performance Thursday night at the Nomad’s Way gala to benefit educational initiatives in Kazakhstan, hosted by Sigourney Weaver. Thicke was given a desk appearance ticket and released soon after. A rep for Robin, the son of actor Alan Thicke of Growing Pains fame, had no comment. [Photo: WENN.com]

Payroll Tax Cut: Extended!!

House Republican leaders agreed Thursday to accept a temporary extension of the existing payroll tax cut, bowing to political pressure after a lengthy standoff. Under a deal reached between House and Senate leaders, the House will now approve as early as Friday the two-month extension of a payroll tax holiday. The extension, which also includes unemployment benefits, was approved by the Senate Saturday. A committee will work on legislation to extend both through 2012. House Republicans – who rejected an almost identical deal on Tuesday – collapsed under the political rubble that has accumulated, much of it from their own party. With the bill set to keep the payroll tax at 4.2% instead of rising to 6.2%, the GOP, who abhors tax hikes, was dead set on killing the bill because … who knows honestly. Worried that the blockade would do serious damage to their appeal to voters, House Speaker John Boehner was determined to put the issue behind Republicans. After his conversation with lawmakers, the speaker conceded it might not have been “politically the smartest thing in the world” for House Republicans. The reason? Putting themselves between a tax cut and the 160 million American workers who would benefit from it, and to allowing President Obama to seize momentum. Makes sense. Might as well actually govern.

Justin Bieber Sings in the Holidays on The X Factor Finale

The X Factor crowned its first-ever U.S. champion last night… but it took two hours to do so. 50 Cent Performs With Astro, L.A. Lakers on X Factor Finale

Rapper 50 Cent, never one to be accused of family friendly entertainment, saw half of his performance bleeped out, but still rocked the house on The X Factor finale. Astro may not be the inaugural X Factor winner , but the young rapper did make his way onto the finale, rapping alongside Fiddy. That’s a feat in and of itself! Also, L.A. Lakers guard Derek Fisher introduced Mr. Cent, his good friend, and other Lakers – Matt Barnes and Steve Blake – also made it up on stage somehow. We can’t explain it either. Just watch the performance below. 50 Cent Live on X Factor In case the censoring rendered it all unclear, 50 performed his latest single “Wait Until Tonight” followed by his 2003 smash hit, “In Da Club,” featuring Astro. The kid’s got game … unlike Barnes, Blake and Fisher, who just waved their arms a lot … with Kobe Bryant hurt, maybe they’re getting in shape to play extra minutes?

George Romero Teases ‘Medically Correct,’ Economically Relevant Zombie Autopsies

Talking with i09, George Romero revealed that he’s optioned Harvard psychologist-turned-writer Steven C. Schlozman’s book The Zombie Autopsies , which is a zombie apocalypse tale with themes of economic collapse. Also: It’s (100 percent?) medically accurate. “I think about it like the first Hammer Frankenstein film, which was all about very graphic scenes of brains floating in blood and things like that. I want it to be perfectly accurate, almost shockingly so.” So, Night of the Living Dead meets Margin Call ? Why not. [ i09 ]

REVIEW: The Three Musketeers is a Tedious, Incoherent Drag

If Sherlock Holmes could be successfully steampunked into a rakish action hero, there’s no reason The Three Musketeers couldn’t be gearpunked into some tolerable 17th century equivalent — and Athos, Porthos, Aramis and young D’A rtagnan are actually soldiers, so no serious character tweaking is required to send them off into repeated swashbuckling setpieces. It’s not the addition of airships and male dangly earrings that make Paul W.S. Anderson’s take on Alexandre Dumas’ classic, much-adapted adventure such a drag, it’s everything else — the incoherence, the anvil-heavy dialogue, the lack of anything beyond the broadest of characterizations.

Spider-Man’s Rhys Ifans’s Lizard Voice Sounds Like a Screamo Gollum on Steroids

When Rhys Ifans crosses paths with Peter Parker & Co. as the villain The Lizard in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, his performance will partially be obscured by CG accoutrements. But one element of the baddie should be a little more recognizable, even after, as Ifans suggests, audio effects will be employed to make him sound even more otherworldly. Not that he needed much help terrifying intrepid MTV reporter Josh Horowitz, as he did when he unleashed a voice akin to Gollum on steroids. Watch and listen for yourself after the jump.
