13 Reality Shows That Need to Be Rebooted

TV shows are canceled for a variety of reasons.  It could be whether the cast wants out or the ratings, or anything.  With multiple scripted TV shows getting the reboot treatment, it was only a matter of time before the world of reality TV was rocked.  Jersey Shore and The Hills have been rebooted, so why can these 13 shows not get a reprieve?   1. The City The City was a short-lived spin-off of The Hills. It followed Whitney Port as she moved from California to New York in an attempt to further her fashion career. Once there, she quickly learned that the world of fashion was more cutthroat than she first anticipated, and had to adapt to her new surroundings. Initial episodes were clunky, with performances so wooden it sounded that the script was below the camera. However, the series managed to find its footing in Season 2 by scaling back the relationships in favor of actually focusing on the world of fashion. MTV opted to cancel the series alongside The Hills. Given that Port is married to Tim Rosenman, the producer of the series, would it be that difficult to bring the show back in some form if the reboot of The Hills proves to be successful? We think not, and we would totally watch! 2. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Here Comes Honey Boo Boo followed Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and her family around McIntyre, Georgia. They were fun to watch, made hilarious comments, and controversy seemed to follow them. TLC pulled the plug after four seasons in 2014, leaving a full season of episodes unaired. The reason for the cancellation was said to be because of rumors that June Shannon was dating a registered sex offender. The series returned to TLC three years later with a two-hour special that featured some of the footage that never made the cut. Could a reboot be on the cards? 3. The Real World The Real World put a group of youngsters inside a house in a specific location each season. Viewers watched as they partied, bickered, made up and did the same thing all over the next episode. Does it sound like a lot of reality TV shows on MTV nowadays? Later seasons added in twists that diluted the premise of the show, and it could explain why MTV has not aired the series since early 2017. There have been rumblings that a reboot is in the works, but there is nothing official as of yet from MTV. A back-to-basics approach could be what this series needs to thrive again. 4. College Hill College Hill followed the lives of students at historically black colleges. The format was similar to The Real World, but the college setting made for a fresh perspective. It was a hit for BET, but fizzled out in its final few seasons, and that was largely down to the cast not being as good as the earlier editions. The general rule of thumb for reality TV is that if the cast is right, viewers will tune in. BET would be wise to trial an updated edition of the show. It could be a hit! 5. Next Next was a dating show that spanned 288 episodes from 2005-08 on MTV. It was retro, cheap, and everything you would expect from a dating show in the noughties. The surprising thing about it was that MTV’s target audience managed to understand the convoluted format. A reboot for streaming could be a hit. 6. Growing Up Gotti Growing Up Gotti followed Victoria Gotti, daughter of Mafia boss John Gotti, and her three sons; Carmine Agnello, Jr., John Gotti Agnello, and Frank Gotti Agnello. Victoria was a hard as nails mother, who would stop at nothing to keep her sons in line. Despite being popular, it lasted just three seasons. A reunion aired on the network nine years later, and proved there was still enough family drama to sustain further seasons. View Slideshow

Audrey Roloff’s Dangerous Driving History: REVEALED!

Audrey Roloff may be the most loving mother in Hollywood. This is an impossible judgment to make, of course, but the point we want to make before delving into one troubling issue in regard to the ex-Little People, Big World star is this: She clearly cares a whole lot about her daughter. Just take one look at Audrey’s Instagram account and read a few words from her about Ember Jean and you’ll agree. Despite this indisputable point, a handful of Internet users are suddenly concerned about Ember’s safety. And this is why: It turns out that Roloff is a really bad driver! Just this past week, Audrey was pulled over and cited for “distracted driving” near her home in Oregon. According to the Washington County Police Department, officers busted Audrey on Wednesday, August 22, around 9:30 a.m. for using her cell phone while behind the wheel. She was issued a citation,” Detective Robert Rookhuÿzen told Radar Online, adding: “It’s illegal to operate a motor vehicle while using your mobile electronic device.” This has become the case in many states around the country. It makes sense from a safety standpoint, doesn’t it? Ember was not in the vehicle at the time of this incident, which Audrey spoke openly about on Instagram. She sounded a little bit defensive while doing so, too, we must admit, writing to fans: “If you are holding your phone while you’re driving, even if you’re talking on speaker phone, even if you’re dialing somebody’s [number]… “it doesn’t matter if you’re at a stoplight or if you’re just looking at your Google Maps to see where you’re going, you cannot pick up your phone while driving.” Audrey then explained that she now knows this from experience. “I’m telling you this because I have been in the car with lots of people who pick up their phone to type in an address for Google Maps, or change the song on Spotify, or answer a phone call, or dial the phone, even if they’re talking on speaker or Bluetooth,” she added. “I just thought I’d pop on here and remind you all, because I was reminded today how dangerous it is to pick up your phone even for a split second.” Meanwhile, in 2014, Audrey was also pulled over for violating the “basic speed rule,” accordingto Marion County Circuit Court documents obtained by Radar . She pled no contest at the time and the case was dismissed after she was ordered to pay $260 in fines. ALSO, however, Roloff was found guilty in 2010 “failure to obey traffic control device.” It is not totally clear what transpired in this case, but a judge ordered her the former reality star to undergo a medical assessment and she was forced to pay $120 in fines. Finally, in April of 2010, Roloff was issued a ticket for speeding. Taken on their own, each of these incidents is not a big deal. Even taken as a whole, they don’t exactly represent a menace to society. But Audrey does have at least some history of driving at least a bit recklessly and she is now a mother, so she does need to be extra careful and aware. That is all we’re saying. But they do have a book coming out in 2019 and you’ll be hearing plenty from them moving forward. For whatever it’s worth, Matt Roloff was arrested for drunk driving in 2007, but later found not guilty. It was his second DUI citation in four years at the time. Big Brother Recap: Zingbot Returns!

Level Six have been dominating the game inside the Big Brother house ever since the beginning of the season.  Their latest achievement involved them getting Faysal to put up his ally, Scottie so that there was just one member of their alliance on the block.  In a stunning nominations ceremony, they learned that their plan worked, meaning there was a good chance they would control the vote once again.  “You big buffoon,” yelled Brett in the Diary Room as we rejoined the house. Brett was right: Faysal should have targeted the Level Six alliance to give him and Haleigh a chance to make it further. “I’m not saying you’re lying, but somebody’s lying,” said Faysal to fellow ally, Scottie, whom he had just threw up on the block.  Faysal has got to be one of the worst players in Big Brother history. He is oblivious at evictions and has no grasp on how to execute a move.  The funniest part of all of this is that Faysal made another person come after him: Scottie. It’s astounding that JC managed to make Faysal believe Scottie had the hots for Haleigh.  Haleigh was unimpressed by Faysal’s move, but Faysal continued to be somewhat ridiculous.  “We play it safe every freakin’ week and where does that get us? Nowhere!” yelled Faysal. Haleigh talked sense, saying that Angela and Kaycee were blatantly working together yet they evaded the block.  The good thing is that Haleigh was vocal about getting Scottie off the block, further fueling Fessy’s insecurities that his bae was about to join a showmance with the man who has not kissed anyone before.  As we previously reported in our latest round of Big Brother Spoilers , Angela, Haleigh, and Tyler joined the veto race.  Things took a thrilling turn when Fessy turned to Tyler to ask about a final four deal with the two of them, Angela and Haleigh.  This was music to Tyler’s ears because it meant there was no way he would have to use his power. This dude might as well just be handed the check now, CBS! Zingbot returned to the house, and the famous robot was on top form with comments that were almost too crazy for TV.  Here are some of the best zings of the night: “People say robots are heartless, emotionless and soulless. Did I say robots? I meant to say … Angela!” “Kaycee, you have all the Big Brother viewers shouting “Let’s go … to another channel!”  “Brett, you always seem so fresh and clean, which makes sense because you’re a giant douche!” “Fessy, I was surprised to learn you’re a part-time teacher considering you’re a full-time moron!” “Sam, you love to tell everyone how real you are. You are real … real f—ing crazy!” The competition was the annual one that focused on the houseguests hiding things in the house. Brett was smart with this one, and it made it look like the area had already been looked through in his runs.  Brett won the veto! JC immediately got to work and told Fessy to get Angela or Kaycee on the block. To be fair, they’ve both been used as nominees in the past, so it made sense. Also, JC did not want Fessy to think he was to blame for any of the drama in the house.  Meanwhile, Brett wondered whether it would be time for Fessy to get Haleigh on the block, and Sam was the one who made the pitch.   “She’s using you as a body double because she can’t win these physical competitions,” Sam said to a irate Fessy.  That’s when Sam asked for a pinky promise, and Fessy seemed like he was ready to just self-evict because of the stupidity of this move.  Fessy then hits up the DR and claims Sam is working with Scottie. What the hell? What did you think of all this craziness? Hit the comments! View Slideshow: Big Brother: Meet the Most Controversial Houseguests

Redefining Summer School For Black Students

T he arrival of summer generates excitement. But it could also bring challenges for both parents and educators. Many students experience a loss in math learning during the summer months known commonly as “summer slide.” Students from middle-class families may not be as affected as they have access to more resources to make up for the learning loss. However, those from lower-income backgrounds could experience significant losses, particularly in math and reading. Researchers point to the summer slide as a contributing factor in the persistent academic achievement gap between students from lower-income backgrounds and their middle-class peers. But, does race also conflate with class, when it comes to summer slide? What does summertime mean for black children and the parents and caregivers who care for them? We are education researchers who are black and parents to two black children – one in elementary school and another in preschool. If the U.S. imagination constructs summer as a time for swimming, free play, baseball and lazy days on the beach, it has never played out this way in our home. We feel the weight of summer – both for its limitations and its possibilities. To us, the summer is less a time to focus solely on fun and more of what we call the “summer soar.” Summer goals for black parents The term “summer soar” is not taken from research or policy studies. We use it to reflect the triple burden that some parents of color – in our case, black parents – could endure during the summer months. For these parents, summertime provides time to accomplish three goals: (1) reinforce what was learned in the previous year, (2) get a head start on the upcoming year and, most importantly, (3) supplement valuable yet missing curriculum knowledge generally not offered in traditional schools that reflects students’ racial and cultural identities. Let’s look at what we mean by missing curriculum knowledge. We offer an example of this in a study we conducted with a researcher at Sacramento State College, Julian Vasquez-Heilig . The study examined how culture and race were addressed in the most recently adopted 11th grade U.S. history Texas state standards. Findings highlighted that topics in the social studies standards did not fully address the contributions of people of color in the U.S. In the case of black people, much of the focus centered only on cultural contributions and not on the other ways black people contributed to the U.S. narrative. Added to this was the tendency to give partial attention to the legacy of racism. This history of U.S. racism was not discussed as foundational to the development and maintenance of the country. Black students’ mis-education This is not unique to Texas nor found in the area of social studies alone. Education researchers have long acknowledged how official K-12 school curriculum and approaches to teaching fail to affirm black students’ cultural identities. They also reinforce the belief that black people have not made any contributions to the U.S. society. As far back as the turn of the 20th century, notable scholars including W.E.B. Du Bois , Carter G. Woodson and Anna Julia Cooper addressed the problems and limitations of schooling for African-Americans . As a result, black students run the risk of experiencing what historian Carter G. Woodson called “mis-education.” Mis-education is a process where school knowledge helps to foster a sense of contempt or disregard for one’s own histories and experiences, regardless of the level of education attained. So, for us as parents and educators, the “summer soar” is not just about further developing our son’s academics. It is also about fostering a consciousness to help ward off the subtle effects of mis-education – a concern shared by many black families. Why it is uniquely burdensome We recognize that black parents are not the only ones worried about their children’s academic achievement and social development. Families, in general, are critical about the overreliance on standardized testing that makes school less a place for meaningful engagement . Yet what makes the “summer slide” and as a consequence the “summer soar” experience of black parents uniquely burdensome is the context in which it occurs. Along with the curriculum and teaching problems black children encounter in schools around race and culture, there is a legacy of positioning black males and black children in troubling, dehumanizing ways. For example, scholars note that black children, specifically black boys, are often viewed as mature and “adult-like.” Their behaviors and experiences are not seen as part of the normal arc of childhood development. Scholars find that in this “adultification” process, black children are not given the allowance of childhood innocence . These “deficit-oriented” perspectives are found not only in academic literature, but also in public policy, popular media and everyday conversations. A contemporary reflection of this is found in the call for the popular #BlackLivesMatter movement. Being black in the summer To be clear: We don’t feel we are approaching the “summer slide” or our “summer soar” from a place of unfounded anxiety or as parents too focused on their child’s education. Black people have been and continue to be dealt with in schools and society in deeply problematic ways. Just consider the growing number of black families that are choosing to homeschool their children. In a study that examined the perspectives of 74 African-American homeschoolers in the U.S., researchers Ama Mazama and Garvey Lundy found that the second most important reason that black parents chose to homeschool , right behind concerns with quality of education, was to protect against the racism found in traditional school settings. Being black in the summer (or anytime really) is not easy. The challenge black families face is navigating an educational context that requires excelling in mainstream school settings, while buffering against the very same education systems that deny one’s humanity. This summer, like all summers for us, is filled with ambitious goals. We want to help our rising second grader memorize multiplication facts, advance his reading level and improve his writing. But we also want to introduce him to poetry and literature by black authors, teach him about ancient African civilizations and expose him to the concepts of fairness and justice as key to the black struggle in the U.S. Our task is not easy. But it is our reality – one that we share with countless others – that goes unrecognized in the popular discussions around “summer slide” and the idyllic dream of a lazy summer. Amber Portwood: I’m Actually Going to Try to Be a Good Mom This Time!

So hey, have you been keeping an eye on Amber Portwood lately? Because what’s been going on with her is pretty darn bizarre. Like, if you think of Amber Portwood, you don’t think of anything good, you know? You think about the time she hauled off and hit Gary Shirley in the face, or you think about the time he was walking down some stairs and she kicked him right in the back, and how if he wasn’t such a big dude she actually could have seriously hurt him with that. Or you think about how much she always screamed and yelled at Gary right in front of their daughter, Leah. Or you think about how she used to leave Leah crying in her crib while she laid in bed. Or about how she chose to serve a five-year prison sentence instead of giving rehab another go, and how she thinks that makes her the best mother in the history of mothers . Maybe your Teen Mom OG viewing began a little later in the series, and hearing Amber’s name brings back memories of the greasy horror that was Matt Baier. There’s also a chance that the way she picked up Andrew Glennon while on Marriage Boot Camp with Matt sticks out the most in your mind, or how she went on to get pregnant with his child after knowing him for like two weeks. Basically, Amber has always been a mess. A great big one. She’s violent, rude, self-centered, and just so many bad things. But the weird thing is that lately, she’s been kind of … nice? She went off on a few of her classic Twitter rants during her pregnancy — she’s never been great to turn down a chance to tell everyone what a “damn good mom” she is, even after getting called out for only seeing Leah twice during her summer vacation last year. But as she got closer and closer to her due date, she seemed to calm down a lot, and after giving birth to a seriously adorable baby boy she named James back in May, she’s been almost serene. It’s been nothing but calm, sweet social media posts, including the most precious pictures of her new baby . And in this new interview she did with Us Weekly, she explains why she’s been so different lately … Because this time around, she wants to be a damn good mom, for real! About her first go at motherhood, she admits “I was clueless.” “I didn’t want to ask questions because I didn’t want to sound young or stupid. This is a chance for me to really show what kind of mother I am.” Leah’s is going to be 10 years old in November, so Amber’s had plenty of time to show what kind of mother she is with her, but sure, let’s focus on the baby, whatever. “Before, I wasn’t mature nor was the relationship right,” she explains. “I want to make sure I don’t fall into old patterns and get into a depressed state.” “I have to take care of myself. Healthy mommy, healthy baby.” She also says that unlike back when she and Gary had Leah, “I’m more driven and have the means to take care of a baby better.” No one would argue that a 28-year-old would have an easier time raising a baby than an 18-year-old, but isn’t it a little odd how she’s acting like she’s completely done with parenting Leah, like she had her chance but it’s gone now? Anyway, as for Andrew, Amber says “He is such an amazing man and loves taking care of James.” “He was afraid of postpartum depression, so he’s always checking up on me. He just wants to make sure I’m loved. It’s almost perfect.” We’re sure we’ll see that “almost” part in the next season of Teen Mom OG — after all, Amber is known for her habit of making things seem perfect on social media before everyone sees how messy things actually are on the show. But for now, we hope things really are going as well as they seem to be. We also hope she realizes that she still has a chance to be a great mother to Leah, but one thing at a time, right? Loser Designer Blasts Selena Gomez as "Ugly," Fans React in Horror

You can say many things about Selena Gomez. You can say you don’t like her music because you’re entitled to that opinion. You can say you she has bad taste in men because Justin Bieber has never treated her well. You can say she makes poor decisions with her hairstyle at times. But you cannot say what Stefano Gabbana just said about the singer, not if you want to avoid very deserved backlash from millions of people on social media. The Italian designer, who co-founded the fashion label label Dolce & Gabbana, went out of his way on Instagram this week to attack Gomez. In the comments of a photo on The Catwalk Italia’s Instagram account, Gabbana wrote the following alongside a collage of Selena picture: È proprio brutta!!! This translates, very simply and extremely rudely, to:   She’s so ugly. The insult was many things; unprovoked, cruel, sexist and objectively untrue. And while Gomez has thus far taken the high road, refusing to even acknowledge Gabbana’s existence, her friends and fans online have been unable to show similar restraint. “@stefanobabbana you’re tired and over. your homophobic, misogynistic, body-shaming existence will not thrive in 2018,” Tweeted 13 Reasons Why actor Tommy Dorfman, who plays Ryan Shaver in the Netflix drama. He added: “it is no longer tolerable or chic. please take many seats.” And then there was this from a Gomez follower: “Shame on you for online bullying. Doesn’t matter if 1 million people see it or 1 person, it’s bullying. It’s wrong.” And then this from another Gomez follower, who kept it short and simple and supportive: “We love this beautiful queen.” Julia Michaels, a singer-songwriter and close friend of Selena’s tweeted: “@selenagomez just here to tell you that you are one of the most beautiful women I know, inside and out. I love you always.” This really is true. While the merits of what Gabbana said are really beside the point, it might as well be pointed out while we’re here: Selena Gomez is a very pretty young woman. Full stop. This statement really can’t be debated. Over the years, Gabbana has bullied stars on social media numerous times, including Kate Mossand Victoria Beckham. Most recently, he went after Kate Moss on the same Catwalk Italia Instagram page, dissing a Saint Laurent look she was wearing … just because. In 2015, celebrities such as Elton John, Courtney Love and Ricky Martin boycotted the fashion brand over insensitive comments Dolce and Gabbana made about IVF and LGBTQ families. Moreover, the brand released a $245 “#BoycottDolceGabbana” graphic T-shirt inspired by the negative response to First Lady Melania Trump wearing their designs. In other words: it courts controversy like this. So the best thing to do is what Selena has done, which is to totally and completely ignore the misguided and pathetic messenger. This will be the last time we write about him. View Slideshow: Selena Gomez Stuns with Appearance, Sparks Lip Sync Controversy at American Music Awards

That’s a pretty big move when you consider the history between the three of them.  “Bethenny hasn’t seen her for six years,” continued Ramona, which essentially confirmed we were going to be in for one of the most awkward reunions in the history of reunions.  If you watch The Real Housewives of New York City online , you know that Bethenny and Jill were once best friends, but a falling out paved the way for them to part ways and never speak again.  “Despite what happened with Jill, Bobby loved me,” said Bethenny of the whole situation, and made her way back from Aspen in luxury via a private jet for the event.  Bethenny maintained that she was going to pay her respects and make a swift exit, but it all hit home for her when she was there.  “I don’t know why I’m not leaving. I want to see her again. I’m feeling bad for a woman who lost her husband. It’s a real loss,” Bethenny said to the audience.  Their reunion was as heartbreaking as one would expect. Jill admitted that she was in a difficult spot because she had not been alone since her 20s.  “So proud. Bobby loved you,” Jill declared.  “Where are the gift bags? Terrible funeral,” Bethenny said, clearly attempting to make light of a dire situation.  After the funeral, Luann appeared in the episode thanks to the power of the telephone. Bethenny hit her up, and they got talking.  Luann was mad that she missed the funeral, but she realized she needed to get herself better or she was going to end up in some serious trouble.  “It was a wake-up call for me. This is the bottom,” Luann shared with her friend. But Luann was looking at the positive side of things and admitted that it was for the best she was arrested because it gave her the nudge in the right direction she needed.  Tinsley’s mother, Dale, was in the city and met up with her daughter. It quickly emerged that Dale was meddling in her daughter’s life by telling Scott Tinsley’s biological clock was running out.  “Oh my god. Literally,” Tinsley said, before telling her mother to stay out of her life if her aim was to mess things up.  Despite all of the drama, Tinsley went to look for wedding dresses with her mother. Is there actually hope for them to get married? There may be a way for them to have kids. Tinsley made a video call to Dr. Denker aka her fertility specialist, and he showed them a picture of her eggs.  “I’m looking at what potentially could be my children,” said Tinsley. We finally got more intel from Luann as the episode drew to a close.  “This past month for me has been eye-opening,” Luann said to the audience.  “I feel really, really good,” said Luann on a phone call to Dorinda. “I’ve been self-medicating for a while. I binge in order to cover my emotions.”  “I want to see what it’s like to be sober, see if I can actually enjoy myself without it,” Luann said as the episode closed.  What did you think of the episode?
