The WWE universe has lost a legend. George “The Animal” Steele, one of the wildest, most beloved and unpredictable superstars in the history of the company, has passed away from kidney failure. He was 79 years old. Born William James Myers, The Animal’s death was confirmed by WWE management and also by the ex-athlete’s wife, Patricia. She told TMZ Sports that Steele had been in and out of hospice care since last April. Prior to breaking into the sports entertainment business, Steele earned his Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University and became a high school teacher and wrestling coach in the Detroit, Michigan area. During this time in his life, Steele started to dabble in the world of professional wrestling, first appearing inside a WWE ring in 1967, where he feuded with WWE Champion Bruno Sammartino. Other feuds for Steele during this period included battles with Pedro Morales and Bob Backlund. He never won the title, but Steele was considered a strong, often-used villain for about two decades. Then, in 1985, a storyline found The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff abandoning Steele during a match. As a result, the wrestler ended up being managed by Caption Lou Albano, transforming into an oddball of a fan favorite with a green tongue and a penchant for eating the insides of a turnbuckle. An exciting football game broke out in between various political protests on Sunday night. Indeed, while many may remember Super Bowl LI as the first overtime contest in the history of this NFL championship game, others may consider the event special due to the unique nature of the ads. Some were silly. Some were funny. Some featured celebrities. However others clearly tried to send a message to the world. There was the controversial Budweiser ad that told the story of that beer's immigrant founder. There was the Airbnb commercial that took a clear stance on Donald Trump's immigration policy. But the following spot for 84 Lumber represented the most obvious, clear cut case of a company using its time to focus on something far beyond its product. A building materials supply company, 84 Lumber spent considerable money to show viewers a mother and daughter embarking on a journey across Mexico in a bid to reach the United States. The ad's initial version – in which the loved ones are blocked by a forbidding border wall – was deemed “too controversial” to air by Fox executives. Therefore, the company settled on a 90-second ad that depicted portions of the journey, with an invitation to watch its conclusion online. And that conclusion is what we present below. At the end of it, the mother and daughter find a wooden gate in the wall, which opens to the tagline: “The will to succeed is always welcome here.” Did the company's gamble to get this political off? According to People Magazine, traffic to the 84 Lumber website last night was so intense and ongoing that it caused the site to crash. “We will always support the American Dream,” wrote 84 Lumber on Twitter shortly after the ad aired. “This is a conversation that’s taking place in homes across America and so 84 Lumber was willing to be part of that conversation, to be relevant and timely,” Rob Schapiro, chief creative officer of 84 Lumber’s ad agency Brunner, told Business Insider. “In Part Two [of the ad] you will see what a beacon of light America is, not just within America but beyond to other countries. “We are that beacon of light for people for finding success from hard work and making a contribution.” WATCH THE FULL, UNCUT VERSION BELOW:
God don’t like ugly… Omarosa Rushed To The Hospital TMZ reports that Donald Trump’s Director of Communications for the Office of the Public Liaison AKA Official Housegirl, Omarosa was rushed to a military hospital from the White House for a leg injury sustained last month. Apparently, Auntie Tomasina was injured last month after shucking and jiving too much so her leg was placed in a walking boot. Omarosa has yet to make an official statement following the hospital visit but we’re sure she’ll be just fine Sources at the White House tell TMZ , Omarosa was taken to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland in a government vehicle. Have we healed? Let’s move on. During the unbelievably nightmarish, totally traumatic election season, the Duggars were mostly very quiet about which candidate they were voting for . Derick Dillard did reveal that he was voting for Donald Trump , but other than that, the family kept their picks for president to themselves. Normally we’d just go ahead and assume that the Duggars would be voting for the Republican candidate, given their conservative views , but things were a little different this time around. Mostly because the Republican candidate was a gross, vulgar monster who, despite his many claims, went against everything the Duggars have always said they believed in. But if the election taught us anything, it was that you can always count on people to surprise you. And not in a good way . And so judging by this new Facebook post on the Duggar Family Official page, it looks like the family really was on Trump’s side all along. As Jim Bob and Michelle wrote in the post, “Evangelicals played a huge role in Donald Trump becoming our new President this week. We all know that we need to see our country turn back to God.” We’ll take another moment here for your head to stop spinning, and if your brain exploded, go ahead and take some time to clean that mess up. The notion that Donald Trump could turn the U.S. back to God is just so massively wrong in so very many ways, isn’t it? But still, the Duggars insist that “As a new president takes office, we need to take advantage of this opportunity to teach our kids about God’s grace on our nation.” And here’s the point of all this mess … “It’s why Mike Huckabee’s team at Learn Our History created the kids DVD, One Nation Under God, and right now they’re giving it way for free at [insert Duggar propaganda link here].” The Duggars are pushing these DVDs because “too few children know the story of God’s role in American history,” and the DVDs are free because “every child has a right to know.” Jim Bob and Michelle call these productions “positive, patriotic and faith-based lessons that your children or grandchildren will learn.” And hey, “Whether you choose to place an order or not, please be sure your kids are learning about God’s role in American history.” So there are a couple of issues with this. One, the previously mentioned hilariously misguided thought that Trump will somehow turn the U.S. into some theocracy. And two, the fact that this whole DVD operation seems to be a bit of a scam — it’s one of those “give your credit card information and get something for free, but figure out how to cancel our we’ll charge you forever” deals. And people are here for none of it. “If you are hoping Trump will bring the country to God you are going to be disappointed,” one fan wrote. “You need an actual Godly Christian witness to do that, and Trump is a blasphemy of Christ’s teaching.” “What do you mean, ‘turn back to God'” another asked. “An administration under Trump will NOT teach children to ‘turn back to God.’ He built his campaign on racism, sexism, and violence.” About those DVDs, one person wrote “It’s awesome. But their dvd has never been free. Wish they were and I’d get one for kids. Wish Christians especially wouldn’t spread falsities like that, cause people trust you.” The shade of it all! At this point, it’s nearly impossible to be surprised by anything Donald Trump says or does. He recently shot down claims that he watched two prostitutes urinate on each other because he’s a germophobe , for example. But while many have come to expect the ridiculous, the false and the infuriating from Trump, they remain peeved and perplexed when faced with everything that surrounds Donald Trump. Like how quiet Republican lawmakers were when Trump slammed Civil Rights icon John Lewis? Sure. But let’s focus more for a moment on how Spencer’s Gifts has chosen to profit off the Trump Presidency. A store known for selling novelty items, Spencer’s may finally have gone too far. Because while a coffee mug that reads “Coffee Makes Me [Poop Emoji]” may be humorous, most sane-minded individuals out there find nothing funny about the following shirts currently on the market: “In case anyone still needed a reason to never walk into a @Spencers again, this is proudly being displayed in the front of their PDX store,” wrote Twitter Mary Numair last week. Yes, the store is actually selling a shirt based on Trump’s admission that he often just grabs women by the pussy , an admission he made on tape back in 2005 when speaking to Billy Bush. Most folks interpreted this remark as an example of sexual assault. But Spencer’s sees it as a marketing opportunity. “He’s done it again,” the official description of this piece of attire reads online. “The Donald grabbed America by the pu$$y this election, now you can too with this hilarious political tee! This laugh out loud Spencer’s exclusive shirt is perfect for reminding everyone that Trump’s in charge.” The item is currently sold-out on the Spencer’s website. Trump will take the oath of office on January 20 with the lowest approval rating of any incoming President in modern political history. But the online reaction to these shirts may be even harsher than the reaction of those who don’t want him to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Focusing specifically on the “Grab America by the Pussy” top, one Twitter user summed up our feelings perfectly. “This tee shouldn’t have made it past the pitch room, @Spencers,” he wrote. “Not a matter of being offended; it’s elevating sex assault as patriotism.” “Sexual assault is not patriotism, @Spencers. It’s not a joke or a slogan. For too many, it’s a lived experience of violation & violence,” wrote another irate American.
