If anyone in the history of the justice system deserves the death penalty it’s this guy. A 30-year-old Thibodaux man accused of decapitating and dismembering his 7-year-old disabled son was indicted by a Lafourche Parish grand jury Friday morning. Jeremiah Wright, 30, is accused of killing Jori Lirette more than a week ago inside the West Seventh Street home the pair shared with Jesslyn Lirette, the boy’s mother. Wright confessed to investigators shortly after the boy’s head was found on the side of the road by a passing driver, police said. The grand jury’s decision means that Wright will stand trial for first-degree murder. If convicted, Wright faces mandatory life in prison and is eligible for the death penalty. The grand jury presented its findings to District Judge Jerome Barbera after a two-hour session in which prosecutors outlined the evidence compiled so far. The grand jury meets behind closed doors and decides whether enough evidence exists to prosecute, but the indictment does not indicate guilt or innocence. Wright’s re-arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Monday in District Judge Hugh Larose’s courtroom. He remains in isolation at the Lafourche Parish jail. His bond is $5 million.
