A night for outlandish celebrations, noisy party favors, fireworks, countdowns, kisses and, sometimes, plain-old debauchery. The haters out there refer to December 31 as “amateur night,” referring to the common phenomenon of revelers’ tendencies to overindulge themselves with partying and adult beverages. The non-haters, however, take advantage of the holiday’s merry theme to get dressed up and attend a fancy party. Maybe even a fancy party at a nightclub, hosted by a celebrity. For those looking to possibly rub elbows with a celeb, if you live in or are heading to Miami, Las Vegas or New York, you’re in luck. The soirees hosted by famous faces are a-plenty in those towns. The biggest event in Vegas looks to be the grand opening of the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. On Thursday, Florence and the Machine will perform at the opening of the casino’s Marquee nightclub and then on Friday, New Year’s Eve, the party includes a star-studded dinner and performances by Jay-Z and Coldplay. Celeb attendees expected to start 2011 at Marquee include: Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Wahlberg, Kristin Davis, Ellen Pompeo, Rashida Jones, Kellan Lutz, Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan, Haylie Duff, Nick Zano, James Marsden, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Tim Olyphant, Leah Remini, Tyler Perry, Abigail Spencer, Emmy Rossum, Jessica Szohr, Mark Salling and Selita Ebanks. Other celeb-hosted parties at venues on the Las Vegas Strip include a 30 Seconds to Mars performance at the Pearl Theater in the Palms Hotel and Casino; B.o.B and Bruno Mars at Jet Nightclub in the Mirage Hotel and Casino; Diddy at LAX in the Luxor; “Girls Next Door” alum Holly Madison at Lavo in the Palazzo; Jay Sean at the Bank in the Bellagio; Kim Kardashian at Tao in the Venetian; Nelly at HAZE Nightclub in ARIA Resort and Casino; and last but not least, Rihanna will be at PURE Nightclub in Caesars Palace. Miami features a similarly star-studded list of affairs. Usher, Trey Songz and Miguel will perform at the American Airlines Arena, after which Songz will head to LUX nightclub to host their festivities. Drake is hosting a party at Wall at the W South Beach, along with DJs Sinatra, Phresh and Jacomino. Porn actress-turned-“Entourage” hottie Sasha Grey is hosting a celebration at Catalina Beach Club. Leona Lewis and Natasha Bedingfield will perform at the South Beach Jam on the Sand, where streets will be closed to cars for a three-day party leading up to the Orange Bowl. Kourtney Kardashian will be at Plunge in the Gansevoort South Hotel, and Lil’ Jon will DJ and MC at Cameo nightclub, while Nicki Minaj is hosting an “All Pink Everything” shindig at Mansion with the Harajuku Barbie Dancers. And then of course in New York City, MTV will be ringing in the New Year with comedian Whitney Cummings, a performance by Flo Rida and some fist-pumping action from our very own “Jersey Shore” cast, who will premiere footage from their upcoming new season. Disney starlet was rumored to be up for a role in the all-star superhero film. By James Dinh Demi Lovato Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images for PCA Demi Lovato still has her 2011 touring plan , but one gig the teen sensation doesn’t have on her agenda is a starring role in “The Avengers.” Contrary to reports, the 18-year-old singer/actress will not be featured in the film about a team of Marvel superheroes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. THR reports that sources inside Lovato’s and Marvel’s camps are “denying across the board” that the “Camp Rock” star is involved in any way in the all-star comic book adaptation, which is tentatively due in 2012. Part of the difficulty in hiring the actress is that the Joss Whedon-directed film will begin shooting in spring 2011 and the starlet is still undergoing her stay at a medical treatment center for “emotional and physical issues.” Despite the circulating Lovato rumor, Marvel may still be on the lookout for another female actress to join the male-heavy cast. As of now, “The Avengers” superhero lineup includes Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor). Things have been looking up for the “Sonny With a Chance” star. Not only did the songstress come to an agreement with dancer Alex Welch, whom she allegedly punched before leaving her joint tour with the Jonas Brothers, but the Disney star was also able to spend some time with her family on Christmas Day . She was spotted with her family on the holiday getting food near her treatment facility in Woodridge, Illinois. Gaga beats out Eminem and Justin Bieber on year-end worldwide chart. The singer’s The Fame Monster has topped the 2010 United World Chart , a list compiled by German website Media Traffic that tallies worldwide album sales collected from a variety of international sources. The Mother Monster landed at the top of the chart after her little monsters around the globe bought a total of 5.8 million copies of her massive album. And Gaga is extremely grateful for the achievement. “THE FAME MONSTER was named the best-selling album of 2010!” she wrote on Twitter . “I’m so excited for the future, believe + work hard, you will achieve your dreams.” But, Gaga wasn’t the only artist garnering big global albums sales this year. Coming in at a close second on the chart was Eminem. The rapper sold 5.7 million copies of his Recovery album. And landing in third place is Justin Bieber, whose combined sales of My World and My World 2.0 totaled 5.6 million. Gaga’s monster year also landed her at #14 on Forbes magazine’s 2010 list of top-earning stars . The singer pulled in a whopping $62 million from music sales, concerts and other income sources. To close out her eventful 2010, Lady Gaga will make a big announcement come this New Year’s Eve. Over the holiday weekend, she tweeted that she’d be sharing with her fans some news about her 2011 album release, Born This Way . “Merry Christmas little monsters! Goodwin, 32, and Kern, 34, confirmed to People magazine that they got engaged on Christmas Eve. “We couldn’t be happier than to celebrate our engagement over the holidays with our families,” they said in a statement. The pair began dating in 2008 after being set up by a mutual friend. Kern (best known for roles in movies such as “Cabin Fever” and “Super Troopers”) asked for Goodwin’s hand earlier in December. An unnamed source told Us Weekly, “Joey emailed all his friends back on the 12th and gave them the good news.” According to E! News , Kern made the engagement even more notable by popping the question with a ring that he had designed himself. The rapper claims that he had valuables stolen from a friend’s car while they visited an L.A.-area mall on Christmas Eve. The Los Angeles rapper claims that he was robbed on Christmas Eve. He vented his frustrations via Twitter , saying robbers relieved him and a friend of a luxury travel bag, jewelry and cash while his associate’s car was parked in valet outside of a local mall. “So, heres my day: tried 2 do last minute shoppin 4 da kids & valet stole a Louis Duffle out @ avanterose ‘s car & we 2 chains & $75,000 short,” The Game wrote in several messages . “So police come & guess who get patted down ? Yea, US !!! then they tell us da palmtree was blocking the crime scene on the tape.” According to the rapper, he’s going to search for justice by his own means. He threatened the Topanga Mall Nordstrom valet drivers with an offer to deliver them gifts after the holiday. The Game, however, noted that he and his associate are both on probation, so they couldn’t properly voice their displeasure with the valet employees while police were present. Last month, The Game attempted to reconcile with former mentor 50 Cent once again. The Compton native reached out to the G-Unit head honcho via Twitter about rejoining the crew populated by Fif, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo. (Young Buck, like Game, was ousted by 50 for being disloyal.) “@50cent Aye n—a, get on twitter & let’s get this sh– movin !!!
