Adele Starts 2012 Topping Billboard Albums Chart Once Again

By James Montgomery Adele Photo: Getty Images New year, same story: Adele ‘s unstoppable 21 sold more than 144,000 copies to claim the top spot on the first Billboard albums chart of 2012, easily outpacing Drake ‘s Take Care, which landed at #2 with sales of nearly 72,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. As it approaches the one-year anniversary of its release, 21 — which was 2011’s biggest seller by a huge margin — shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, with this week’s numbers, it has now sold some 5.8 million copies in the U.S., making it the best-selling album since Usher’s massive Confessions, which moved 7.9 million copies in 2004. Young Jeezy ‘s TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition holds strong at #3 on this week’s chart, selling more than 67,000 copies in its second week. Lady Antebellum ‘s Own the Night is up next at #4 with sales of nearly 54,000 copies. And buoyed by the chart-topping success of single “Sexy and I Know It,” LMFAO ‘s Sorry for Party Rocking leaps from #16 all the way up to #5. Florence and the Machine ‘s Ceremonials (sales of more than 47,000 copies), the Black Keys ‘ El Camino (more than 45,000), Coldplay ‘s Mylo Xyloto (more than 44,000), Rihanna ‘s Talk That Talk (more than 42,000) and the 40th installment of the ubiquitous Now collection (more than 41,000) round out the top 10. The week’s biggest debut belongs to Skrillex , whose new Bangarang EP opens at #19, with sales of nearly 24,000 copies. The Trent Reznor / Atticus Ross “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” soundtrack makes its chart debut at #44, selling more than 14,000 copies. Michael Lohan: I’m Lucky to Be Alive!

The Lohan family members like to live on the edge. Lindsay Lohan’s troubled father Michael has been in and out of the hospital, and his court-ordered rehab facility, since his two arrests in one week late last year. “I don’t know what God has in store for me, but it must be BIG. I should’ve been dead five times already,” Michael reflected of his numerous health woes. When you collapse at an AA meeting , times are tough. MiLo says he’s finally on the road to recovery, though . “It’s by far the best treatment facility I have ever worked with or have been to,” he said about A New Day treatment center in North Palm Beach, Florida. “A little longer and the blood clot would have taken me out.” Separated from his four children over the holidays, Michael said his treatment is finally improving their relationship, especially with his eldest daughter. “The whole thing has made me look at life differently and brought me and my entire family closer, including Lindsay,” he said in a chat with Radar . A source tells Us Weekly that Mattell will immortalize these sisters via an upcoming limited-edition Barbie line that “will reflect the girls’ measurements and may even come in Kardashian-designed outfits.” We can only hope. This makes sense for three reasons: Kim Tweeted over the holidays: “Merry Christmas Barbs! Long time no see! What did Ken get you for Christmas? Miss you doll!” Kim once posed like a Barbie doll . By Jocelyn Vena Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake Photo: Getty Images On Wednesday (January 4), the Internet was abuzz after a report that Justin Timberlake had proposed to longtime girlfriend Jessica Biel. While there had been some chatter about a possible engagement before the holidays, the rumor mill went into overdrive when sources confirmed to Us Weekly that the couple had gotten engaged in late December. While neither of the stars’ reps has commented on the report, Us says the singer/actor asked Biel to marry him while vacationing in Jackson, Wyoming. “Justin knows how much she loves snowboarding and the mountains, so it was the perfect place,” the source said of the reported proposal. The couple, who began dating in 2007, broke up briefly in early 2011 , weeks after they attended Oscar parties together. According to the Us source, “When they reunited, they had a conversation about taking the next step.” Another source close to the singer said he’s “never been happier” and that “he knew it was the right time to propose.” At the time of their March 2011 split, a rep explained, “Addressing the media speculation regarding Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake’s relationship, we are confirming that they mutually have decided to part ways. The two remain friends and continue to hold the highest level of love and respect for each other.” While the two got together again shortly after the breakup, they have always been plagued by speculation about their relationship, whether it be that they are breaking up or getting married. When asked about having to deal with all the attention, Biel told Vogue in 2012, “I don’t want to talk about it. I don’t feel the need to clear anything up. It’s the most precious thing that I have in my life, and I care about it so much that I don’t care about what anyone says or thinks. I have just not addressed it in any real way, and I’m not going to. It’s mine. And I really like that about it.” The news of his engagement comes weeks after Timberlake’s former flame Britney Spears announced her engagement to longtime beau Jason Trawick. Harry Burkhart Arrested in Los Angeles Arson Spree

Harry Burkhart, a 24-year-old German national, was the man arrested by police earlier this week in connection with the deadly arson spree in Los Angeles. A string of arson fires put Los Angeles residents on edge over the holidays and caused millions in damage, and officials believe Burkhart is the perpetrator. They also believe he did it because he felt his mom was being mistreated. Burkhart was arrested early Monday morning driving a minivan in W. Hollywood. Inside were fire starter sticks. Once he was in custody, the fires ceased. Sheriff Lee Baca called the suspect the “most dangerous arsonist in Los Angeles County that I can recall,” after battling 50 blazes in the preceding days. While authorities don’t yet have a definite motive, they say it appears Harry Burkhart was outraged about his mother’s pending deportation to Germany. Dorothee Burkhart was arrested December 28 on a provisional warrant from Germany, and the arson spree began just after she was taken into custody. At a court hearing Tuesday, Dorothee, who is wanted on fraud charges , cried for her son – and claimed he suffers from mental illness, the LA Times reports. “My first question is, where is my son?” she shouted, telling a federal judge in broken English that her son “is mental ill.” That would be an understatement. During a recent immigration hearing about Dorothee’s case, her son ranted against the U.S. and its policies, according to the Los Angeles Times . An officer working on Dorothee’s case saw footage of the suspected arsonist, recognized Burkhart, and contacted authorities, the AP reports. Police stress that the investigation is not complete. “We are confident in our investigation, but we have a long way to go,” L.A. Police Chief Charlie Becks said.

My names Jenn and I’m 17 from Toronto. I’ve actually written 2 other Bieber experiences but this is the first time I actually met Justin. On December 21st, I went downtown at around 11:00am to meet up with some friends. We were waiting outside Justin’s hotel and after a while of waiting we saw Justin and Kenny walk out of the elevators. We asked if we could have a picture through the window and Justin and Kenny were gesturing us to come to them by the side doors! We went around to the side where they were coming out and Justin took pictures with me and my friends. Two of my friends didn’t get pictures but what happend next for them made up for it. Later in the day, we saw this van and Scooter happened to be inside. Right away, the van pulls over and Scooter got out and asks us if we all had tickets to Justin’s Home For The Holidays show. Two of my friends didn’t have tickets so Scooter told them there would be tickets waiting for them at the box office. They got 2nd row tickets! It was a total Never Say Never moment. After the two were spotted separately over the holidays — neither wearing their wedding rings — rumors of a split reached a fever pitch Thursday. Now TMZ is reporting that Russell Brand has filed for divorce in Los Angeles citing “irreconcilable differences.” Brand has released a statement, saying, “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I will always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.” The couple, who met at the 2008 VMAs and married in India in 2010, have no children. Brand recently addressed the breakup rumors with Ellen DeGeneres. “There are always rumors, aren’t there? In the end, you have to just not engage with Internet technology, which is difficult because a lot of the nude women websites I quite enjoy,” Brand joked. “I’ve treated the whole Internet now like it’s a wicked little liar. Yeah. I am really happily married,” he added. “I’m married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge.” Perry took to Twitter in November to brush off earlier rumblings. “First I’m pregnant & then I’m divorced. What am I ‘All My Children’?! #ericakane #pshhh #ifihadadollarforeverytime …,” she tweeted.
