Quote Of The Day: Brian White Says “I Don’t Hate Black Women”… But Does He Need More People?!?!

Brian White is married to a Latina and made a lot of sisters mad after pointing out that black women on reality TV act like a bunch of chickenheads, but now he wants to set the record straight. Good ol’ Brian hollered at Essence Magazine for a “let’s clear things up” interview. Check it out: ESSENCE.com: You’ve caught a lot of flack for your comments about how Black women, so we just have to ask, Brian White, do you hate Black women? BRIAN WHITE: No, come on. I’m Black Carpenter [the title of his book and youth development program]. I’m out making sure kids have a future. I did that interview on speakerphone and my mom was in my car with me. I said the majority of what we, as a community, celebrate in the media, isn’t worthy of our women. Not the ones that I know and love. I’ve been out on the road with the UNCF, NAACP, and National Urban League doing Black Carpenter or working with little girls and boys in schools. I’m about that, more so than anything else. I’m not trying to be famous; I’m trying to make a difference. That’s all I meant to say. I apologize for any confusion. ESSENCE.com: Why do you think the story of you hating on Black women picked up so much steam? WHITE: I don’t know. There are probably lots of reasons, but I feel like that’s what sells. In our community, it’s very difficult to sell substance. I’ll say this: anything that can be construed as negative gets a lot of play but if it’s super positive getting actual creditable media and then that extra blogger is much harder. ESSENCE.com: Speaking of substance, you were very critical of reality TV and said something like; ‘You can’t call it a stereotype if it’s the majority.’ What did you mean by that? WHITE: I’ll use my role as Randy in the movie ‘I Can Do Bad All By Myself’. People get mad and say that’s a stereotype of Black men. I’m saying guys like Randy might be a stereotype but when I go to the club on Friday, I see 150 of them grabbing sisters by the wrist going, “Yo, come over here.” That’s not how gentlemen act. We support those images because they’re a little closer to truth than we care to admit. Let’s take a character like, Madea, who is based on Tyler Perry’s aunt. She’s like 6-feet-tall and probably has a gun in her purse right now. Tyler is holding up a mirror. In traveling across the South doing plays, I met a lot of Big Mommas, like Martin Lawrence’s character. Sure, we’re exaggerating a little bit, but there’s some reality in there. ESSENCE.com: Your comments caught the ire of NeNe Leakes who said you were “jealous” of the success of reality stars. What did you think? WHITE: [NeNe] responded to the blogs. I know that they were inflammatory on purpose. I think she handled it very well. I’m not saying anything negative about NeNe the woman. I want to her succeed. I want all Black women to succeed. I just don’t want it to be at the expense, or the example set for our kids. I’m so happy for people who have success on the reality TV, but I don’t know how to tell my little sister to follow in their footsteps. ESSENCE.com: Your comments may have been taken the wrong way since you were also criticized for marrying a woman who wasn’t Black [ his wife Paula is Latina]. Do you constantly feel like you have to defend yourself? WHITE: Yes, I do. I have five younger sisters. My sister Ashley has a Caucasian husband and my sister Erin has an African husband, from Liberia. My other baby sister is a sophomore, and she’s dated every race from all over the world. And that was why I popped off about my wife. Because that’s the biggest love of my life, acting is second. It made me uncomfortable to be challenged on who I love. I thought, ‘There are 31 flavors of ice cream at Baskin Robbins, can I like one?’ Does it mean that I don’t like the others? No. It’s just confusing because I try to be positive and I think I’m about something that’s valuable, and to be slighted for love, or whatever, it’s just frustrating especially in 2012. Aw poor baby. Y’all was picking on him. Sorry Brian but it sounds like you still feel that the stereotype of Black women on TV is the reality of how the majority of Black women are. WENN Source More On Bossip! He Fancy Huh: Suspect Usher Acts Like A Little Beyotch In Hollyweird Restaurant And Tells Waiters Not To Speak To Him

Ho sit down … Usher reportedly acted like a top class diva earlier last weekend when he visited a restaurant in Hollywood: The ‘Climax’ singer rolled up to the Cleo restaurant in the Redbury Hotel with an entourage of about 10 people, but he wasn’t in the mood to be friendly with the people who would be serving the large group. A source told NY Post’s Page Six that Usher kept his sunglasses on all night – even throughout the dinner – so that he wouldn’t have to make contact with the wait staff. “Apparently the staff was not allowed to speak to him directly. All interaction had to happen through one of his staffers,” the source told the publication. Oh, oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh my God… Do you believe Usher would be such a diva? Gabrielle Union Defends Decision To Attend Clive Davis’ Party After Whitney Houston’s Tragic Death

Was she wrong? Gabrielle Union has defended her decision to attend Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy Awards party last Saturday just hours after the death of Whitney Houston: “I think if you weren’t there, I could understand [being upset]. We made a judgment call after [P. Diddy] and Clive talked to the family and they said, ‘Please go,’ basically to provide a more balanced view of Whitney’s life.” Gabrielle also revealed that Whitney’s friends and family were angry that focus had been shifted to her drug addiction rather than celebrating her life. Chaka Khan blasted Clive Davis for hosting the party with Whitney’s body in the same building. Was it wrong for Gabrielle and other celebs to attend? Source More On Bossip! Making It Rain On Them… Babies?: Beyonce’s BFF Gwyneth Paltrow Breaks MAJOR Bread For Princess Blue Ivy’s First Baby Gift

Must be nice! What kind of stroller did Beyonce get from pal Gwyneth Paltrow? A Bugaboo, naturally! Paltrow was among the very first to tweet about the birth of her BFF Beyonce’s daughter Blue Ivy in early January — and the actress, 38, knew just what to gift the chanteuse and her bundle of joy. Paltrow treated Beyonce and husband Jay-Z to a Cameleon stroller by Bugaboo, boasting a dark gray base and off-white fabric; the posh baby-transporter retails for $979. (As it happens, Beyonce, 30, scored one of many smash singles with Destiny’s Child in 1999 with the song “Bugaboo,” about a male suitor who just doesn’t know when to give up.) But here’s a question: what the hell are Beyoncé and Jay-Z going to do with a stroller? That child is not going to see the light of day until she already knows how to walk, or maybe she won’t even need to walk because she’ll be carried aloft on a platform everywhere she goes. Actually, maybe they could use it to push the baby around inside her 2,200-square-foot nursery. Either way, props to the Gwenny for the nice gesture. Do you think the gift was excessive? Rumor Control: Don’t Believe The Hype! Eddie Murphy Ain’t Dead…

We knew this one couldn’t possibly be true because there was no sign of Johnny Gill weeping profusely from under the shroud of a black lacy veil. SMH. Eddie Murphy is the latest celebrity death hoax victim. Rest assured, he is still very much alive. According to TMZ reports : The Internet is blowing up with reports that Eddie Murphy is dead. NOT TRUE. We made some calls, and Eddie is very much alive. The frenzy was triggered by MediaFetcher.com. The site has been spinning bogus stories about other celebs they claim are dead but are not — including Jon Bon Jovi, Charlie Sheen, Adam Sandler, TooShort, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Bacon, Luke Perry, Jack Black, Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Tom Green, Mac Miller, Tiger Woods, George Clooney, and others. This is just crazy. Who has time to sit around making up lies about people dying? And Eddie Murphy’s death is no joke. We’d be devastated. Glad to know he’s still with the living. Cheers Eddie! Race Matters… Vanity Fair Tucks Away Their Tokens In Yet Another Hollywood Issue Epic Fail!

What is wrong with this picture? When are the wanksters at Vanity Fair going to learn ??? Yeah yeah, we noticed that “at least” you included some black folks this year, but we’re not stupid. That cover folds up, tucking our black beauties Paula Patton and Adepero Oduye (who won raves from critics for her role in the indie film “Pariah”) out of sight and out of mind. We still haven’t gotten over the sting of 2010, when blacks were shut out completely. The magazine was ripped apart when that happened, and last year they tried to rectify the situation by putting Anthony Mackie and Rashida Jones on the cover. But they two were tucked away, marginalized between the inside margins. You’d think they’d have learned by now BECAUSE they’ve been doing this for over 20 years — hiding the black folks on the far right panel. Don’t believe us? Continue for lots of evidence…

Jessica Alba Makes A Case For Why Beyonce and Jay-Z Should Sell Baby Blue’s Photos… Make That Baby Rich!

Jessica Alba isn’t telling BeyBey what to do or anything, but she does have some motherly advice — sell Baby Blue’s photos to the highest bidder and make that baby rich off money SHE earned. Mother of two Jessica Alba has some advice for new parents Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Alba suggests that the celebrity couple make a deal to sell the first photos of daughter Blue Ivy Carter and either put the proceeds in a trust fund or donate the money to charity. Alba tells CNN’s A.J. Hammer that her decision, made with husband Cash Warren, to sell the first photos of daughter Honor Marie Warren in 2008 was the right move. Alba reportedly received $1.5 million from OK! magazine for the deal. “For our family, we just wanted to control the experience,” Alba explained. “We put the money that the picture made into a bank account for Honor to do whatever she wants to do with. It’s her picture, it’s her birth, and we didn’t want it to be like a weird thing when we were walking out of the house for the first time.” Alba says that selling the first picture cut down on paparazzi feverishly trying to snap pics of the newborn. “If there’s a price tag on your child — which is so bizarre — people will go to crazy lengths,” said Alba. “We wanted to avoid that hysteria.” Alba also reveals that shooting the images for OK! magazine was a great experience. “We were friends with the photographer. It was just a nice day in the house. We’ll have those beautiful pictures forever,” Alba said. “You can give the money to charity and to your baby and that’s it.” But Alba isn’t trying to force the decision on Beyoncé and Jay-Z. “To each his own,” she said. “The biggest thing is having a healthy baby … I’m sure Beyoncé will make the best decision for her family.” Alba has recently launched a line of eco-friendly household products, called The Honest Company, inspired by wanting to use the safest products around her two daughters. She makes a good point, granted the Knowles-Carters don’t need the money… But we can think of a few reasons why they should listen to Jessica. It would put a stop to the rampant photoshopping of fake Baby Blue pictures like the ones 50 Cent posted. And there’s plenty more where those came from. Keep clicking to see some of our faves!
