When is a simple holiday photo not really a simply holiday photo? When you and your partner look so very close and cuddly and you've been together for well over a year and folks think you have shared this picture as a hint that an engagement may soon be on the way. Matt Roloff knows what we're talking about. The Little People, Big World star published a beautiful snapshot of himself and girlfriend Caryn Chandler on Instagram on December 17, 2018 — and very well may have meant very little by it. Gretchen Rossi may no longer be a cast member on The Real Housewives of Orange County. But she still knows how to make headlines. And, in this case, she has done so with the most exciting news possible… … she’s expecting her first child! Rossi and Slade Smiley announced this blessed development during an appearance on The Doctors. “Finally we have news, that we are pregnant!” Gretchen said, prior to Slade adding: “And we’re freaked out… but in a good way.” The couple has been together for a decade and they have been engaged for the past five years. They’ve spent four of those years trying to conceive and appeared on this medically-themed talk show to discuss their use of IVF. The Doctors actually aired the emotional moment when Rossi first learned the news, which caused her to burst into a puddle of happy ears. Smiley also recounted hearing their little one’s heartbeat for the first time. “All of this has been such an overwhelming journey,” he said. “And so when you get to those little milestones and you know you’re hearing the heartbeat, it’s so exciting but it’s also a relief.” “It’s so wild,” Gretchen added. “It still doesn’t feel real.” During her on-air interview, the mother-to-be grew very candid, opening up about her struggles with fertility and how she often feared she would never give birth. “After the first round of IVF, when we lost 14 embryos, I looked at Slade and said, ‘I just need to take a pause,'” she recalled, elaborating as follow: “This is beyond anything I had ever expected to experience. It literally took a good year and a half for us to even get to a point where I was willing to talk about it again.” Has this been a struggle? Yes, of course. However, Smiley and Rossi said their “emotional journey” has brought them “so much closer together.” Do they know the gender of their impending child? No, but Rossi thinks it will be a girl. Does Gretchen have morning sickness? Yes, but it lasts all day and is the “worst thing ever,” she said. Still, of course, she would not trade any of this for anything in the world. “There was plenty of times during the process that we were like, ‘Oh my gosh. Is this ever going to happen? Is this ever going to come to fruition?'” Gretchen said, adding: “But I think that we’re so very grateful, because had we not had IVF, we would not be sitting here right now telling you that we’re pregnant.” Smiley has two children from previous relationships. We wish him and Rossi the very best.
William “Willbilly” Hathaway, a cast member on the National Geographic Channel reality show Wicked Tuna, died on Saturday due to injuries he sustained in a car accident. He was 36 years old. According to local news outlets, Hathaway was involved in a crash in Salisbury, Maryland after he swerved off a remote countryside road into a ditch. WBOC16 says that Maryland State Police received a 911 call from a concerned citizen who drove past a Toyota truck on Old Ocean City Road; the station then received numerous similar calls shortly afterwards. The incident took place around 4 p.m. local time. Hathaway, meanwhile, supposedly called his wife after the accident occurred and said he was alright. However, paramedics quickly arrived at the scene and found the reality star “slumped over the center console,” not breathing. The aforementioned news outlet claims he was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Hathaway was allegedly forced off the road and into the ditch when another vehicle cut him off. His airbags reportedly never deployed. In response to this tragedy, friends and loved ones have started a Facebook fundraiser to raise money for Hathaway’s wife and their newborn daughter, Molly. A spokesperson for the Ocean CityFishing Community wrote on the page: “He was an exceptional human being whose passion was the sea. He always brightened the day of anyone he met. His wife and new born baby girl he was most proud of.” “Due to his untimely death we are asking for donations to help them stay on their feet while trying to survive this tragedy.” As of this writing, more than $56,500 of the $250,000 fundraising goal had been reached. Hathaway was part of the fishing crew on the Ocean City-based Foolish Pleasures vessel, which was featured on Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks. The series itself debuted in April of 2012. You know how Ryan Edwards just got out of a long stay in rehab and everybody had high hopes that he could actually turn his life around this time? One of those things is that he made a Tinder profile and tried to hook up with girls while married to Mackenzie Standifer. He's done that a couple of times, and now? Kanye West has turned his attention from Drake to Ariana Grande. And now we have a feud on our hands between two of the biggest solo artists on the planet. It all started on Thursday night when Kanye went after Drake on Twitter , accusing his fellow artist of threatening members of his family. This renewed rivalry got off to a strange start, after West revealed that Drake had asked for clearance to sample one of his tracks. Kanye used this request as an opening to simply attack Drake close to 80 times on social media, writing at one point that Drake needs to stay away from Kris Jenner: “Been trying to meet with you for 6 months bro. You sneak dissing on trav records and texting Kris talking bout how’s the family.” It was an especially chaotic few hours on Twitter, even for Kanye West. Drake didn’t really response to any Kanye’s taunts of insults… … but Grande actually did. You see, Ariana and Miley Cyrus both released new tracks on Thursday and Grande joked that West and Drake’s beef was taking away attention from these single drops. In a practically perfect Tweet, the singer wrote: “Guys, i know there are grown men arguing online rn but miley and i dropping our beautiful, new songs tonight so if y’all could please jus behave for just like a few hours so the girls can shine that’d be so sick thank u.” Hilarious, right? Not exactly, Kanye now argues. The 41-year old rapper took exception to Grande butting into his business in this manner, accusing the superstar of exploiting both his fame and even his mental illness in order to promote her music. “I know Ariana said this to be cool and didn’t mean no harm but I don’t like even slightest level of slight commentary from someone I know loves and respects me,” he Tweeted, adding: “All of this foolishness weighed on my mental health so @ArianaGrande you know I got love for you but until you’re ready to really make sure everyone’s ok don’t use me or this moment to promote a song.” West has claimed in the past that he’s bipolar . In response to Kanye’s remarks, Ariana didn’t entirely back down. She stood up for herself and her career, but also issued a mea culpa. “with all due respect, i don’t need to use anyone to promote anything. period. i was making a comment ab what men were doing at the time vs. women,” she wrote, concluding: “it was a joke which i understand now was probably insensitive. i apologize if i was in any way triggering and hope u feel well today.” Again: Ariana handled this perfectly. It’s very clear at this point of her career that she doesn’t need to rely on anyone else to push her songs, yet she was a big enough person to recognize the sensitivity of mental illness and to acknowledge how perhaps she should have thought of that before Tweeting. Grande is very good at social media. Kanye is very bad. Perhaps he should take another break from the medium.
Morning commuters were in for a bittersweet treat this week. An armored truck managed to spill some cash, littering a New Jersey highway with money. Motorists slowed or even stopped their cars to pick up the bills, slowing traffic and causing multiple accidents. At about 8:30am on Thursday, December 14, an armored truck spilled cash on the westbound lanes of Route 3. This was in New Jersey, near Metlife Stadium, right outside of New York City. It also happened during the peak of morning rush hour. Rush hour traffic is never good, but on this fateful morning, it was considerably worse than usual. Why? Because people were leaving their cars and running out into the street to collect stray cash that was littered along the asphalt. There is absolutely video, which we have included here. Travel reportedly slowed to standstill as people stopped their cars to root around on the asphalt for cash. Those with passengers simply slowed their vehicles so that someone else could scramble for cash. According to police, there were “multiple” accidents that appeared to be a direct result of people hoping to get their hands on a little free money. Not all of those collecting cash from the highway were opportunists. Among the people was a man in a Brinks security uniform. Some openly wondered if he was making an attempt to clean up his own mess, or that of a colleague. Incidentally, this is not the first time that something like this has happened. In June of 2015, a Brinks truck took a spill after a door on the vehicle malfunctioned. This went down in Baltimore in the Harbor Tunnel. At the time, motorists and pedestrians made an eager grab for the littered cash. Others, however, were fully cooperative with authorities and even helped to return the cash. So, is it legal to just pick up spilled cash in a situation like this? In a word: No. Contrary to jokes made about items “falling off of trucks,” finders keepers is not how property rights generally work. A small amount of cash with an unknown owner might be awarded to the person who finds it, but the cash in spills like this is not ownerless. In the Baltimore case, police released a statement that people who had grabbed cash from the asphalt had two days to return it. If they failed to do so, they could face charges of theft. Assuming, of course, that they were caught. Unless it's The Purge, don't just assume that you own any money that you happen to be able to touch. Maybe bearer bonds work that way, but even then, snatching them in broad daylight would be a little brazen. Cash is just currency. The same laws and social rules that make it illegal to just grab a television and run also make it illegal to pocket random money. Between widespread surveillance technology and the omnipresence of personal cameras, usually on people's phones, you can easily be identified and caught. Resist your impulses, folks. Snatching $20 that aren't yours off of the road isn't worth being late for work.
So you know how Kanye West enjoys expressing his thoughts and feelings on Twitter? It seems that yesterday, he had just a great big mess of them. Because, OK, Kanye hates Drake , right? And this is for a lot of reasons. Earlier this year, Kanye produced an album for Pusha-T, and on the album, Pusha said some not-so-nice things about Drake. Drake retaliated by saying some equally unkind things about both men in a song of his own. After that, Pusha released another song in which he let everyone knew that Drake had that kid that he’d been keeping secret . A few months later, Drake slammed Kanye in yet another song. And after all that, Kanye got a text yesterday from one of Drake’s producers asking for permission to sample one of his songs. That’s when things got really bad. Kanye tweeted a screenshot of the text and then went off … for a very, very long time. The gist of it all was that he’s been waiting on an apology from Drake for going after him when he wasn’t even the one who told Pusha about his secret son. After the first part of the rant, he said that Drake did call to apologize, but just a few hours later, he claimed that “Drake called trying to threaten me.” We can’t even begin to break down everything he said — he seriously tweeted for hours and hours — but he did seem to take the threat seriously. “Drake if anything happens to me or anyone from my family you are the first suspect,” he wrote. He said that he made it possible for Drake to be successful because “I’m the guy with the pink polo that made a way for him.” But now he’s “so street” that he picks on “people with mental health issues” — he did explain that since he’s bipolar, issues like these can make him “ramped.” Kanye begged Drake to “please take the devil up out you” and to stop playing games and just have a real conversation about everything with him. He really did go on for so long. So, so long. And Ariana Grande was not having it. See, last night Ariana was planning on dropping a new song, “Imagine,” and she did, but she was on Twitter for a few hours before to talk with her fans and promote the release. The problem was that so many people were talking about everything that Kanye was saying that it was kind of sucking up all the attention. So she tweeted this: “Guys, i know there are grown men arguing online rn but miley and i dropping our beautiful, new songs tonight so if y’all could please jus behave for just like a few hours so the girls can shine that’d be so sick thank u.” Honestly, a lot of people didn’t appreciate the comment — some thought it was a silly cry for attention, others thought Kanye’s claims about death threats were more interesting and important. But Miley was down for Ariana’s plea! She retweeted it and added “Didn’t they hear the news?! War IS over! Thank you, next!” Because the song she released last night is called “War is Over,” get it? Unfortunately, Kanye didn’t listen, and he went on for a while after that about how important he’s been for “sneakers fashion music everything” and about how positive vibes are desperately needed. Taylor Swift turned 29 years old on Thursday, December 13. Happy birthday, girl! And a new report says that she can expect a whopper of a post-birthday present any day now from boyfriend Joe Alwyn . Joe is apparently very eager to propose to her. So romantic! Us Weekly reports that Taylor Swift could get a proposal any day now from her British boyfriend. “Joe is very keen on proposing soon,” an insider reveals. We sure hope that this isn’t spoiling any surprises that he might have in store for Taylor! “But,” the source says. “He wants to make it unforgettable.” “And,” the insider continues, Joe wants to make it “extremely special.” We should hope so — there’s only one Taylor Swift. You don’t want a less-than-stellar proposal. But apparently he shouldn’t be too worried. The key to proposing to Taylor may simply be to, well, be his charming self. “He’s her dream guy,” the source gushes. She’s dated some of the hottest and most famous dudes on the planet. But it looks like she and Joe just clic k. So whatever he has planned, it sounds like Taylor’s answer is expected to be in the affirmative. According to the insider’s prediction: “Taylor’s going to be over the moon.” Part of Joe’s appeal as a boyfriend — and perhaps, as a future fiance or even spouse — is that he’s comfortable in Taylor’s shadow. “She can be herself and be open,” the source explains. No one can really say that they were surprised when Cardi B and Offset broke up after Offset was caught cheating. Unfortunately, it also wasn’t a shock to hear that Cardi B might get back with Offset . Fortunately, apparently Cardi’s plans to reconcile are nothing but a rumor. It’s really over. The Blast reports that, as far as current plans go, Cardi and Offset are never, ever, ever getting back together. There were other reports, earlier in the week, that said something very different. See, the story went that Cardi and Offset were patching things up by rekindling their romance. A lot of Cardi’s fans were disappointed to see her back with her cheating husband, but they weren’t too surprised. The only good piece of news from it was that Cardi had reportedly gotten him to sign an agreement. It would have penalized him $10 million — which is nearly two-thirds of his net worth — if he cheated on her again. A deal like that isn’t a guarantee, but if Cardi has a bit of what they call a Xanatos Complex, she might want that provision. Either she keeps her husband loyal or she gets $10 million. That’s a pretty nice deal — the kind that might make some people hope for cheating, even. But The Blast reports that there is no deal of the sort in place. And, again, that Cardi and Offset are both still single. Cardi’s fans — and, quite frankly, others — were happy to poke fun at Offset for having an amazing marriage and just ruining it with his penis. Offset lashed out online , insisting that he was genuinely emotional and missed Cardi. He didn’t appreciate people laughing at his expense. Well, Cardi didn’t appreciate him making a fool of her with his cheating antics. Many find it difficult to work up a lot of empathy or even just sympathy for a man who had a good thing going for him and just tossed it out. To quote Michael from The Good Place , “Humans make a lot of mistakes when they’re horny.” On the plus side, maybe fans will never again have to see Cardi and Offset make out on social media. Even though we know that Cardi was fully dressed, it sure looked like Offset was fingering Cardi for all to see. That kind of PDA might be cute when you’re a teenager, but some of Cardi’s fans found it offputting. The thing about being a celebrity is that fans loving you doesn’t mean that they automatically love the man that you love. Many stans insisted that he’s not good enough for Cardi, and even that he was just latching onto her at the start of her rise to mega-fame. When he was exposed as a cheater, those same super-fans felt vindicated. Their suspicions were confirmed. It’s clear that Offset is still crazy about Cardi. It’s more than possible that they will get back together. We’ve seen it happen again and again, whether it’s with friends or celebrities. Some women are very, very forgiving once they cool off. According to a new report, not only is Nicki Minaj cool with dating a registered sex offender… … she may be cool with spending the rest of her life with him. Insiders tell TMZ that Minaj and Kenneth Petty have been talking about marriage and kids and settling down together for good, despite having only been a romantic item for a few months. Minaj is taking this relatively new relationship very seriously, believing that Petty is a good and decent man. This belief belies his past, of course. The artist has come under extreme fire ever since going Instagram public with Petty this past Sunday because he was convicted of attempted rape back in 1995. Petty spent four years in prison for this act, which reportedly centered on him using a sharp object to try and force a woman to have sex with him. Then, in 2006, Petty was convicted on a charge of manslaughter and spent seven more years behind bars. It’s unclear just what transpired that led to this second jail stint, but Minaj has already stood up for her man admist heavy criticism leveled at him due to the first. After many followers called Nicki out for being with someone such as Petty, Minaj responded on social media by claiming that he was 15 years old and the alleged victim was 16. She said the two were in a “relationship,” impyling that Petty did nothing wrong. “But go awf, Internet. Y’all can’t run my life. Y’all can’t even run y’all own life. Thank you boo,” Nicki added. Minaj has known Petty for nearly 20 years. She briefly dated him way back in the day as a teenager and has supposedly told many people within her circle that he’s one of the few who got away. He was one of her first loves. This may help explain why Minaj can so easily look past some of Petty’s misdeeds, as heinous as they objectively may be. “As for that whole convicted sex offender thing — among other crimes — we’re told Nicki couldn’t care less,” TMZ says. Minaj, it should also be noted, has a history of defending those accused* of sexual assault (*Although, again, Petty has not merely been accused. He has been convicted of attempted rape.) The singer’s brother, Jelani Maraj, was found guilty in November 2017 of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl. She has also not been shy in expressing support for ridiculously-named and tattooed rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, who was sentenced to probation in October for his involvement in a sexually explicit video of a 13-year-old girl. Gross stuff all around. For shame, Nicki.
