Schools and school activities are supposed to reward extraordinary achievement and dedication on the parts of their students. But for one 17-year-old swimmer, she found her accomplishments erased when a referee disqualified her after she won. The reason cited? The bottom of her one-piece swimsuit had bunched up during her swim. The national outcry was swift and immediate. Dimond High School in Anchorage, Alaska boasts one of the fastest swimmers in the country's largest state. Unfortunately for that very talented 17-year-old athlete, she is now at the center of a nationwide controversy. On Friday night, she won a 100m freestyle event against the rival team from Chugiak. Sadly, her victory was short-lived. The referee disqualified her after-the-fact, citing — and we wish that we were kidding — that her swimsuit had a wedgie. Most people would not have paid any attention to a slightly bunched up one-piece, because that can happen to any swimsuit. It is also worth noting, of course, that the one-piece was provided by the school — this wasn't the case of a swimmer going rogue with her uniform. But the referee issued a disqualification based upon the girl's “intergluteal cleft.” Notably, the national rulebook does not say anything of the sort. And while coaches in the district were cautioned against swimmers showing “intergluteal cleft,” the one-piece only did so while bunched up. There have been no shortage of deeply sexist dress codes and ensuing scandals over the years as fewer families are willing to stand for them. But this was clearly a step further, and spawned national outrage practically overnight. There was more than misogyny and inherent unfairness at play behind this unbelievable decision by the referee. Millions of Americans reading about the outrageous disqualification took note of the fact that the girl in question is biracial and somewhat curvy. Bias against curvier women and girls is sadly nothing new, and they are often excessively sexualized despite wearing normal clothing. And we hope that we do not have to explain that racism is alive and well in America to a sickening degree. These factors were pointed out by a coach at a neighboring high school — a rival school, and the last person you'd think would root for an opposing athlete. She wrote about how this girl wore the same uniform as her teammates, none of whom had receives violations. She also recalled incidents of this girl and her sisters being targeted even by parents who felt that the girls' curves made them inherently indecent . (One parent even photographed the girl and distributed pictures, which is mega creepy and got him scolded by the school district) Anchorage School District, taking note of the coach's outrage and of the national outcry, released a statement just days after the disqualifcation. “The disqualification appears to stem from a difference of opinion in the interpretation of the rules governing high school swim uniforms,” it begins. The statement continues: “Immediately after the disqualification, the Dimond HS swim coach filed a protest with the official to contest the decision.” We intend to gather all the facts surrounding the disqualification so we can accurately address the matter with officials,” the district adds. “And, they conclude, they will “take appropriate action to ensure fair, equitable competition and consistent application of the rules for this athlete and her peers.” Well, that internal inquiry by the Anchorage School District concluded that the 17-year-old athlete was unfairly targeted. They sent an appeal to the Alaska School Activities Association, who had to have known that this was coming. It took only one hour for the ASAA to reverse the disqualification. Like in one of the early Harry Potter books where magic sports still mattered, all points were restored to the Dimond team. The ASAA is still mulling over whether to decertify the referee and also whether to suspend the clearly unfair “suit coverage rule.”

Most notably, she originally planned to name it “Kimono,” but came under fire for doing so because that’s already a word and already a well-known article of clothing in Japanese culture. “I understand and have deep respect for the significance of the kimono in Japanese culture,” Kim told The New York Times in response to this controversy over the summer, adding at the time: “My solutionwear brand is built with inclusivity and diversity at its core.” Eventually, Kim changed the name to SKIMS. On Tuesday night, three couples broke up on Bachelor in Paradise . On Monday, September 9, Dean and Caelynn stunned viewers when they decided to exit Bachelor in Paradise, departing Mexico with a seemingly uncertain future. But the reality stars then went ahead yesterday and made it clear yesterday that they are doing quite well, thank you very much. Between the two of them, Caelynn and Dean shared a trio of photos of their time together… which has apparently included one-on-one dates in a van, with a nice view and very little clothing on. “Sorry we had to leave #bachelorinparadise early, the vantasy suite waits for no one,” Dean jokingly captioned one post. He even tagged the location as “Pleasure Town,” which is pretty amazing. Caelynn then reposted her lover’s picture and gave an update on their new life on the road. “Lots of ramen, very few showers, and a whole lot of happiness,” she wrote. In another one of the adorable snapshots (below), all of which were taken inside Unglert’s van, the two are cuddled up as they look out onto the ocean. They probably feel like the only people in the entire world here, you know? These images, and the romance they represent, mark a stark departure from where Miller-Keyes and Unglert were just a few weeks ago on air. They had going strong until Dean decided to dump Caelynn on her birthday and leave the series. She was crushed, but then a few days later, she was smitten with Connor Saeli and seemed happy as can be — that is, until Unglert chose to return and ask for a second chance. Then, on Monday night’s installment, Unglert came back to reveal that he had a change of heart and wanted Miller-Keyes to leave the beach with him. “I’m a changed man,” he told her. “I’m scared of getting hurt again,” Miller-Keyes replied. “I can’t tell you exactly what’s going to happen next, but I know I want to try,” Dean simply said. To his continuing credit, Lamar Odom cannot stop gushing over new girlfriend Sabrina Parr . In fact, the pair seem to be moving incredibly quickly. Just over a month after going Instagram Official as a couple, the two are already shooting a brand new reality series. Lamar and Sabrina were spotted out and about together. As usual, the basketball legend was asked some friendly questions by paparazzi. One paparazzo asked him what he and Sabrina had been filming. It was a very good question, and got an interesting answer. “Me and my girl, we have a new show. Sabrina & Lamar ,” he revealed. He furnished a detail and rhymed at the same time, adding: “Sabrina Parr is the star.” Then, on Instagram, Sabrina responded when fans brought this up. “@lamarodom just can’t hold water to save his life LOL,” she teased. By that, she means that he couldn’t keep a secret. “The secrets out now [though] …” Sabrina admitted with resignation. “By the way …” she revealed. “The show name is not Sabrina and Lamar LOL.” While she does not reveal the show’s actual title, Sabrina does treat fans to an anecdote about her man. “I’ll tell y’all a quick story,” Sabrina writes. “From the day I met Lamar, he kept saying to me, ‘man you’re like a star.’” “Then every time [people] would come up to him to get a pic,” she continues. “He would say ‘that’s Sabrina Parr. She’s the real star.’” “That’s exactly how he’s treated me since day one [though] …” Sabrina gushes. She says that he treats her “like I’m the star and I’m the one who should get all the attention!” Sabrina explains that this is why Lamar gave the answer that he did. “That’s why he said this to the media,” Sabrina reasons. Full of affection, she acknowledges that “He truly feels that way.” “Meanwhile … I’m just tryna wear my Nike hat and sweats in peace LOL,” she jokes. Hmmm, I know that she’s why Lamar gave up porn , but I think that I actually really like her. “I think a lot of you will be surprised as to what exactly is gonna be included on the show,” Sabrina teases fans and followers. “How many of y’all will be watching?” she asks. “If you’re not gonna watch it,” she instructs. “Then just don’t respond.” Sabrina explains: “cuz I’m not talking to you and I don’t feel like blocking anyone today.” “So be nice on this beautiful Monday,” she requests. We really, truly do not know what sort of show the pair of them are cooking up. It’s good to hear that the show’s title won’t be quite as close to Khloe & Lamar as some had feared from his statement. Sabrina really does sound head-over-heels in love with him and appreciates how he treats her. That is truly heartwarming, you know? Maybe their relationship is still in the honeymoon phase, or maybe they’re just super compatible. We can’t wait to see what they’re like on reality television.
