R.I.P. “Like It Is” Host Gil Noble Dead At 80, Journalist Suffered Stroke Last Summer

“Like It Is” Host, Award-Winning Journalist Gil Noble Passes Away This is another huge loss of yet another legend this week. Gil Noble, the longtime host of WABC-TV’s groundbreaking public affairs program “Like It Is,” on which he interviewed such notables as Nelson Mandela, Muhammad Ali and Jesse Jackson, died Thursday at age 80. The television station announced the death of the Emmy Award-winning journalist, who had a debilitating stroke last summer, on its website. “Gil Noble’s life and work had a profound effect on our society and culture,” WABC-TV President and General Manager Dave Davis said. “His contributions are a part of history and will be remembered for years to come.” Noble, who was black, joined WABC-TV as a reporter in 1967 and anchored the station’s weekend newscasts the following year. Also in 1968, he became host of “Like It Is,” which focused on issues concerning African-Americans. He was equally as comfortable interviewing heads of state such as Mandela or Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe as he was interviewing entertainers such as Harry Belafonte and Bill Cosby or sports icons such as Ali or Arthur Ashe. Noble also created documentaries on luminaries such as W.E.B. Du Bois, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr. and Charlie Parker. U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel, a friend, said Noble’s legacy “will continue as a trailblazer for African-Americans in journalism.” “For over forty years he was perhaps the nation’s most important black journalist, bringing the struggle for civil rights and black equality into the homes of millions of Americans,” Rangel said. Noble was the recipient of seven Emmy awards and received a lifetime achievement award from the National Association of Black Journalists. He also received five honorary doctorates and was cited with more than 650 awards from various community groups. He had a passion for jazz and was a member of the board of directors of The Jazz Foundation of America. He is survived by his wife, Jean, and five children. Funeral services haven’t yet been announced. Condolences to the Noble family. We are mourning his death along with so many others, as we continue to celebrate his legacy! R.I.P. Snooki Shoots To Top Of List Of Pregnant Reality Stars

Kourtney Kardashian, Tori Spelling and Rachel Zoe have been with child on TV, but Snooki’s onscreen pregnancy should be unlike any other. By Gil Kaufman Snooki Photo: MTV There are whole reality genres devoted to chronicling the ups and downs of pregnancy. And plenty of stars have allowed cameras into their homes to mark the months as they wait for the blessed event. But none of them were “Jersey Shore” star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi. On Wednesday (March 7), pint-sized, fist-pumping self-proclaimed “meatball” Snooki confirmed to MTV News that she is pregnant with her first child and engaged to boyfriend Jionni LaValle. Sure, you expect to see the trials and tribulations of young women dealing with baby bumps on shows like, duh, “16 and Pregnant.” But given the popularity of “Shore” and the upcoming spin-off Snooki will star in with “Shore” pal JWoww, chances are we’ve never seen anything like this before. So we decided to see how Snooks stacks up against other expectant reality-show ladies who’ve shared their joy with us onscreen. Kourtney Kardashian : The Kardashians are not known for their shy, retiring nature. From letting us into their bedrooms, weddings and subsequent bust-ups, they have shared it all. The star of no fewer than three family-focused features, Kourtney publicly agonized over whether to keep her first baby, Mason, born in December 2009. She’s since fully embraced being a preggo TV mom and is currently in the midst of her second onscreen baby watch. Rachel Zoe : The fourth season of the stylist-to-the-stars’ show, “The Rachel Zoe Project,” dealt with the departure of her right-hand man, Brad Goreski, and the pressure of keeping up her hectic cross-country travel schedule while taking care of herself in the lead-up to the birth of her first child, son Skyler. Tori Spelling : We don’t know what Snooki’s TV pregnancy will look like, but few stars have embraced being with child on the tube as much as this former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star and daughter of Hollywood royalty. Every one of her three pregnancies has been caught on tape to some degree, beginning with son Liam in “Tori & Dean: Inn Love,” her first reality series with husband Dean McDermott. The on-screen bump she sported during “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood” in 2008 resulted in daughter Stella. Daughter Hattie Margaret, who was born in October 2011, arrived following the first season of the pair’s latest show, “Tori & Dean: sTORIbook Weddings.” While fans will have to wait and see what happens to Snooki as she embarks on this next chapter of her life on her spin-off with JWoww, fans can check out how this season of “Jersey Shore” will wrap up when the season finale airs on Thursday, March 15. Share your well-wishes for Snooki and Jionni in the comments below or on our Facebook page! Don’t miss “Jersey Shore” every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. For continuing “Shore” coverage, be sure to check in with MTV’s Remote Control blog. Who is your favorite pregnant reality star? Let us know in the comments below!

Celebrity Cribs: Peep The $10 Milli Hollyweird Hills Mansion Ashton Kutcher Is Renting And Justin Bieber Is About To Buy [Photos]

We’re not sure if Justin is going to still want the house after Ashton and his dirty dog ways are done with it though … Via TMZ reports: Justin Bieber is still on the hunt for an L.A. home, but he definitely has NOT put an offer on the $10+ million home Ashton Kutcher is currently renting. Although, reports have stated that the belated birthday boy who just turned 18 last week, has shelled out $10.8 million on a modern mansion in the Hollywood Hills for him and his boo-thang Selena Gomez. The mansion is made up of glass and steel boxes that appear to float above the home’s large pool and patio, the 5-bedroom home has 9,400-square-feet of living space and high-tech amenities such as retractable glass walls — perfect for tween groupies to spy through — glass chandeliers, a gourmet kitchen, gym and massage room, while the outside area boasts enclosed gardens, terraces, and outdoor rooms. Must be nice. We don’t remember what we were doing on our 18th bday but it sure as hell wasn’t considering whether or not to buy a multi-million dollar crib. Check out more pics next… Zillow

Occupy Wall Street: The Revolution Won’t Be Generalized

Protesters from all walks of life share with MTV News what the movement means to them. By Tami Katzoff Protester Jenni Walkup at Occupy Wall Street on Wednesday Photo: MTV News One fact that quickly becomes apparent on a visit to Zuccotti Park, the center of activity for Occupy Wall Street, is that its current residents cannot be categorized or labeled or lumped together as a group. Of course they all believe that something in this country is broken and needs immediate attention. But after a few hours talking with a somewhat random sampling of protesters, one understands that the “something” is actually many different things. And the issues being discussed are as varied as the people doing the talking. Amber Phillips , 26, from Fulton, Illinois, spoke about workers’ rights, especially for females. She described a job where she was frequently harassed and denied a raise even after eight years of employment. “I just hope that because of this [protest] going on, more people start standing up for themselves,” Phillips said. Click through to “Voices From Occupy Wall Street” — our interactive photo gallery — and get to know 20 young demonstrators’ motivations, hopes and goals. Megan Blackburn , 33, from Brooklyn, talked about the need for healthy, chemical-free food to be available to everyone. Leon Pinsky , 28, originally from Israel, wanted to promote socialist ideas. And Tokyo native Takuro Higuchi , also 28, wanted to spread awareness of the nuclear crisis in Japan. Eighteen-year-old Benjamin Ashley Frost from Johnson City, Tennessee, was frustrated by the state of education in this country, saying No Child Left Behind is “an abomination.” And while volunteering on the food line, Emily Jira , a 23-year-old recent college graduate from Redondo Beach, California, spoke on behalf of skilled, educated young people who are not getting a return on their academic investment. “I feel like so many people who have really awesome skills are being screwed over right now,” she said. Also among the Occupiers are people who represent various religious and social groups. Sitting in a small sukkah erected at the edge of Zuccotti Park, 32-year-old Brooklynite Daniel Sieradski spoke about his Jewish heritage and the necessity to unify faith with action. And 32-year-old Jake Goodman, originally from Milwaukee, handed out pins that read “Hate is the Abomination” and stressed the importance of including queer voices in the OWS movement. Despite their varied experiences, causes and passions, the people spending their days and weeks in a small corner of downtown Manhattan have at least one thing in common: They’ve left their homes, towns and even countries to come together and speak out. “Because sitting on your couch watching TV,” said Amber Phillips, “clearly isn’t going to make a change.” What do you think about the Occupy Wall Street movement? Let us know in the comments. Click through to “Voices From Occupy Wall Street” — our interactive photo gallery — and get to know 20 young demonstrators’ motivations, hopes and goals. Taylor Swift, Jessica Biel and David Beckham are also teamed up with teen humanitarians for TeenNick’s November 6 awards show. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Nickelodeon The TeenNick HALO Awards are weeks away from kicking off, but the celebrities involved are already spreading the word. In a new PSA for the event, airing November 6, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift , David Beckham and Jessica Biel have joined forces to help spread the word about the show. “Anti-bullying became something that I am now very passionate about,” Lady Gaga said in a statement about being involved with the show. “I was bullied in school, and for a very long time, I kept those feelings inside. Today, I feel grateful and happy that I was able to get through these struggles and have friends, family and people around that inspired me — people like Emily-Anne.” Emily-Anne Rigal, 17, has been paired with Gaga thanks to her work to help stop bullying. She started the WeStopHate.org website, helping to shed light on the cause. Swift will be paired with 19-year-old James O’Dwyer, who started the Magnolia Disaster Relief, an aid program that aims to offer relief to rural areas hit by tornadoes. “I think James and I have a lot in common, and I’m really glad I got to meet and surprise him at my concert,” Swift said. “Judging from the things he’s been able to accomplish, he’s one of those people who does the work without looking for or taking any of the credit. “What really impressed me about James is how he stepped up to the line as soon as he heard that people were in trouble,” she continued. “He saw first-hand how their lives had been destroyed and instead of getting frozen in that moment, he posted a message on Facebook to rally anyone who could bring supplies and food to those who lost their homes in tornados.” Meanwhile, Biel is paired with Shanoah Washington, an 18-year-old who created the Sista2Sista program, which aims to motivate young women. Finally, Beckham was paired with Kyle Weiss, 18, who started the organization FUNDaFIELD, which builds soccer fields in Africa. The show will be hosted by Nick Cannon. 2011 Emmys Ruled By ‘Modern Family’

‘Mad Men,’ ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Mildred Pierce’ also snag big awards. By Jocelyn Vena “Modern Family” castmembers Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen at the 2011 Emmy Awards Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images On Sunday night (September 18), TV’s biggest stars turned up at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles to see who would go home with hardware and who would leave empty-handed. The night’s hostess, “Glee” star Jane Lynch, opened the show with a musical number that featured “Star Trek” star Leonard Nimoy and a slew of other stars, like Randy Jackson and Jon Hamm, along with his “Mad Men” crew, singing about the glories of TV and the perils of awards shows. “I know this feels stupid and schlocky and already feels overly long,” Lynch joked in song. Lynch’s “Glee” alter ego Sue Sylvester, in her signature tracksuit, eventually made an appearance, and the hostess did something the show’s fans have been waiting for: She slushied Coach Sylvester. During the comedy portion of the night, “Modern Family” owned, starting with Julie Bowen beating out co-star Sofia Vergara for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. “I don’t know what I’m going to talk about in therapy now; I won something!” she joked. The Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy category was filled with “Modern Family” actors, but it was Bowen’s TV husband Ty Burrell who took it home, joking, “I have a job where every day I go to work in full makeup.” “Welcome back to the ‘Modern Family’ Awards!” Lynch joked when the show came back from break. “We decided to throw them into the drama category just to see what happens.” Charlie Sheen presented Outstanding Lead Actor In a Comedy Series to “Big Bang Theory” star Jim Parsons. After all the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy nominees got onstage and received a standing ovation, the Emmy went to Melissa McCarthy for her work on “Mike and Molly.” In addition to an Emmy, she got a bouquet of roses and a tiara. She told the room, “Wow, it’s my first and best pageant ever.” “The Amazing Race” won for Outstanding Reality Competition right before the Lonely Island crew took to the stage , along with a number of A-listers like Michael Bolton, Akon, John Stamos, Ed Helms and Maya Rudolph, for a medley of their tunes like “I Just Had Sex,” “3-Way” and “Jack Sparrow.” “Glee” star Lea Michele and “Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder then presented Outstanding Directing in a Variety, Music or Comedy Series to Don Roy King for “Saturday Night Live.” The vampy Anna Paquin and Scott Caan presented the Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy series award to “The Daily Show,” which won for the ninth year in a row. As the night turned more dramatic, more and more shows got in the winning mix. Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama went to Margo Martindale for her turn on the FX series “Justified.” Martin Scorsese took home his first-ever Emmy, winning Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for “Boardwalk Empire.” Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series went to Peter Dinklage for his work on “Game of Thrones.” “Wow, I followed Martin Scorsese,” he gushed. “My heart is pounding; you are a legend. … I would like to thank my dog sitter, whose name is Kitty,” he later joked. Julianna Margulies won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her turn on “The Good Wife.” Drew Barrymore passed the torch to the new “Charlie’s Angels” as they handed out the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series to Kyle Chandler for the final season of “Friday Night Lights.” Chandler thanked “the people of Austin, Texas, who welcomed us into their homes.” Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Mini Series or Movie went to Maggie Smith for “Dowager Countess of Grantham,” while Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie went to “The Kennedys” star Barry Pepper. Both Smith and Pepper weren’t there to accept their awards. It was all about “Mildred Pierce” in the remaining Mini Series or Movie categories. Outstanding Supporting Actor went to Guy Pearce, who teased, “This was really a delightful experience making ‘Mildred Pierce’: I got to have sex with Kate Winslet many, many times and I didn’t know it would result in this,” he said holding his trophy. It was a delightful night for Kate Winslet as well, who won Outstanding Lead Actress for “Mildred Pierce. She seemed pretty stunned as she took the stage, saying, “This means such a great deal to all of us!” Next, Outstanding Mini Series or Movie went to “Downton Abbey (Masterpiece),” while Outstanding Drama Series went to “Mad Men.” “I did not think that was going to happen,” “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner said. “We are so grateful. For us and our families, this is an incredible dream.” The show has won for each of its four seasons. “Modern Family” capped its big night by winning Outstanding Comedy Series, its second year in a row. Show creator Steve Levitan said, “We are so very honored to be in this room. We appreciate every single second of this. I want to thank this amazing cast,” with a special shout-out to the show’s kid cast. Were you happy with the Emmy winners? Let us know in the comments below!
