You can’t really watch this one without being reminded of a Terry Gilliam film. The protagonist here is a dead ringer for the typical creepy totalitarian character who speaks in low voices and yet spews invective and insanity in machine-gun style. ‘True Blood’ ‘s Rutina Wesley Recalls Early ‘Fame,’ On ‘When I Was 17’

Before she fought vampires, the actress got her start at a performing arts high school. By MTV News Staff Rutina Wesley Photo: MTV News Rutina Wesley is probably best known for her recent work on “True Blood,” where she plays Tara Thornton, the spirited, sass-tacular sidekick of Sookie Stackhouse. But before that, she impressed on the Broadway stage and starred in the 2007 film “How She Move,” both of which showed off her first passion: dance. Wesley grew up in Las Vegas, the daughter of a tap-dancing father and a showgirl mother, and as a teen, she attended the prestigious Las Vegas Academy, a performing arts magnet school, where prospective students must audition to be accepted. Naturally, she danced to get her spot. Once she got into the Academy, she faced a whole new series of challenges, as she reveals on the next episode of MTV’s “When I Was 17.” “The first show I did in high school was ‘Fame,’ Wesley recalled. “What I love about ‘Fame’ is it’s sort of like I was living ‘Fame.’ I was going to a performing arts high school, [and] I knew the hard work it took to be there. The auditions were brutal for that show, I remember I had to dance, sing and act, and it was really tough.” Of course, she landed a role in play, and it was then that she got her first taste of actual fame. From there on out, she knew she was born to be a performer. “The theater at my school was awesome, ” she laughed. “It was a 1,400-seat auditorium, so, being in that auditorium at 17, and having, like 1,400 people cheer for you was, like, one of the most amazing feelings that I’ve ever felt, energy-wise. It just felt right.” To hear more about Wesley’s story — and find out what OutKast’s Big Boi and actor Joey Lawrence were like when they were 17, tune in to the next episode of “When I Was 17,” airing Saturday (September 18) at 11 a.m. on MTV. Rick Ross Stands By T.I., Talks New Collabos

‘Regardless of what it is, you don’t turn your back on him,’ Ross says of Tip’s legal issues. By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News No matter what, Rick Ross said he’s going to stand by his friend T.I. The King of the South is in some serious trouble and could have his probation revoked after he and his wife were arrested earlier this month on drug charges . “I think just being firm and being men of our word is what that’s about at the end of the day,” Ross said last week in L.A. during VMA weekend about supporting Tip. “Once you become an ally and a partner, you anticipate the ups and the downs. You gotta be a soldier. The shoe is gonna be on the other foot, either way it goes, when you getting money in the streets, period. Just being G’s, man. It is what it is, man. A lot of times, these situations be blown out of proportion and made into a lot bigger than what they are. “As long as the real G’s and the leaders set the example of ‘This is what you do when your brother gets into trouble,’ ” Ross added. “Regardless of what it is, you don’t turn your back on him; you ride with him. … You gotta stick to the script. When situations come, you stay firm. If that’s your homie, that’s your homie.” Several years ago, before Ross and Tip met, Ricky Rozay publicly denounced Tip over a misunderstanding. Since then, however, all ill will has been quashed between the two, and not only have they become cool, they have worked together several times on other artists’ tracks. This year, Ross pulled Tip in on his Teflon Don album via “Maybach Music III.” Tip called on Ross for a track on the upcoming King Uncaged album, “Pledge Allegiance to the Swag.” Ross said “Pledge” and two other new songs were recorded with Tip while the two were in Miami. “I’mma be honest: That was the first time me and the homie actually got in the studio and I saw him work his magic,” Ross recalled. “To be honest, I was blown away by the homie. He came by the spot. He was like, ‘I’m in Miami. I’m in a good mood, big homie.’ He had just tied his knot. Congratulations to him and Tiny. He was like, ‘I’m swinging through the city.’ I was like, ‘Come through. I’m over at my spot. The Swisher Suite. Let’s get it in.’ The homie came through, walked in. I had the beat on. Your man Tip, 10 minutes tops, ‘Let’s record.’ The homie laid his verse. We played some more music. Another 10 minutes, laid another verse. So he actually did two features for me. I did his feature. We got it all done in a matter of time. Left, went to the club after that.” What do you expect from Ross and Tip’s new collabos? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Rick Ross (Hip-Hop)

Rick Ross Buries Twitter Feud With ‘Fire’ Slim Thug Collabos

‘I leaked ‘Paid the Cost,’ just to show the haters,’ Ross tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Rick Ross says he didn’t fire shots. It was just a rap reference that he had no intention of putting out anyway. A couple of weeks ago, a track leaked to the mixtape circuit and the Internet labeled “King Boss.” Mr. Rozay rapped on the song, “She dated Slim Thug, but now she f— with me/ She finally made it to the biggest boss luckily.” Slim Thugger quickly took to his Twitter page with a question — and a retort. “WTF @rickyrozay is that a diss?” Slim wrote. “Just threw @rickyrozay cd out the roof of the coupe haters get no play in my ride.” Well, before things got too far out of hand, Ross and Thugger talked , hammered out the misunderstanding and actually banged out a couple of new, official songs. One of them, “Paid the Cost,” is out now. “First of all, I wanna salute the homie, Slim Thugga,” Ross said on Saturday in Los Angeles during the MTV VMA Radio Forum. “Maybe two weeks ago, a record had surfaced that I recorded before I even met Slim Thug. Just not knowing the dude and made the record and, after the fact, maybe four or five years later, the record leaked. He responded in a way that was totally understandable. What was funny about that situation is that Slim Thug is actually an artist that after I met him, embraced me and showed me the most love. The homie, Slim Thug, and I gotta salute the homie, Trae Tha Truth.” Ross said that Slim and Trae always roll out the red carpet for him when he goes to H-Town. “For a record to surface and me being a little slow on Twitter, I didn’t really peep it until two days later,” Ross continued. “When I found out about it and heard about it, they said I’m dissing Slim Thug. ‘What’s the name of the record? “King Boss”?’ he remembered asking. “I never had a record called ‘King Boss.’ I just left it alone. After the fact, [Slim] asked me about it. I told the homie, ‘Of course it ain’t nothing but love between me and you, big dawg.’ We got in the studio, later that night. The night we spoke. I emailed him something; shot him something, did something for his album. It’s fire. Then I leaked ‘Paid the Cost,’ just to show the haters.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Related Artists Rick Ross (Hip-Hop) Slim Thug
