Sessler’s Soapbox: Will Nintendo Do 3-D the Right Way?

By now, anyone who regularly visits this website knows that Adam Sessler does not like 3-D. However, Nintendo announced they will soon be revealing their next portable, the Nintendo 3-DS, that will have 3-D technology that doesn’t require glasses. Combine that with the fact that Nintendo rarely promotes a technology they haven’t thoroughly tested and are proud of (VirtuaBoy not included), and Adam’s interested. Check out this week’s Sessler’s Soapbox to find out just what The Sess thinks might be over the horizon for Nintendo and 3-D gaming. Sega: MadWorld Was A "Mismatch" For Wii Audience

MadWorld was a deeply flawed game, but one I enjoyed immensely. Sega pushed MadWorld onto Wii back when publishers believed the wide audience for Wii games meant there was a gaping hole in games for mature audiences. That theory did no favors for MadWorld , resulting in a disappointing sales launch, which Sega now attributes to an audience “mismatch” for Wii. “Critically it [ MadWorld ] got a lot of acclaim, but commercially it wasn’t the success we wanted it to be,” said Sega of America COO and president Mike Hayes to CVG . “Clearly that was a mismatch with the Wii audience – particularly in terms of the amount of cross-ownership between Wii and the other home platforms. If you’re going to play a mature-rated game, you’re going to get your 360, PC or PS3 out to do so. But you can’t knock us for having a go.” Sega has several times stated having no regret greenlighting MadWorld , only that it didn’t catch on. The lesson from MadWorld seems to be a move towards Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. With Project Natal and PlayStation Move, a sequel or upgraded port doesn’t seem far-fetched. “We were brave in that area,” said Hayes, “but the reality is, Platinum Games is such a cutting-edge developer they need the PS3 or 360 to realise what they actually want to do.” Source: CVG Have something to share? Pac-Man Trailer Should Ignite A Fever For Arcade Adaptations

The classic 1980s arcade games are far from exhausted as material for movie adaptations. Sure, we’ve got the prospect of Asteroids , Space Invaders and Missile Command on the horizon, but where are the big-screen versions of Frogger , Q*Bert , Scramble , Defender, Galaxian and Gryuss , to name but six of dozens that could, with a few notes jotted on a beer-soaked coaster, be tentpole flicks… and in 3-D. Add to that list Pac-Man , one of the most popular of those ace timewasters. Helpfully, an outfit called Therefore Productions have put together a proof-of-concept trailer that might kick the Saw franchise in a whole new direction while also answering the question, “What’s Skeet Ulrich up to these days?” Studio executives, check it out after the jump and get this thing greenlit by Monday.

Joe Perry Says Aerosmith Are On ‘Indefinite Hiatus’

‘I think we need some space at this point,’ says guitarist, who just released Have Guitar, Will Travel with his side project. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias Joe Perry Photo: MTV News Legendary guitarist Joe Perry had a pretty simple reason for releasing Have Guitar, Will Travel, his fifth solo album: He had tons of material lying around — the kind of stuff that would make most axmen quake in their boots — so, he figured, why not? “Like about 2 million other guitar players out there, I had all these riffs.

Forget Balloon Boy, Today’s All About Train Baby

If Balloon Boy and his family were looking for publicity, they’ll find it’s fleeting. There’s a new amazing tot on the horizon, and this one survived being hit by a train. This poor Australian mother must have had a stroke when her 6-month old’s stroller, which should have had its brakes on, rolled on a train’s tracks and was promptly hit .
