Paul George of the Indiana Pacers broke his leg in a USA Basketball scrimmage Friday night, likely sidelining him for all of next season if not his career. The 24-year-old star was pursuing James Harden in transition defense, then landed awkwardly against the stanchion supporting the rim and backboard. He stayed down, and a replay on ESPN clearly showed his leg fracturing (the video, obviously, is graphic in nature and may not be suitable for all): Paul George Breaks Leg The Indianapolis Star says George suffered a compound fracture of his right leg. After George was taken off the court in a stretcher to a standing ovation, Team USA Coach Mike Krzyzewski led the players to mid-court in unison. He informed the crowd they were calling off the remainder of the scrimmage, while George was taken to the Hospital for Special Surgery in Las Vegas. George tweeted before going into surgery last night, “Thanks everybody for the love and support… I’ll be ok and be back better than ever!!! Love y’all!!” Early reports indicate the surgery went well, and that George, who averaged 21.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists last season, may play again. He is still likely out for the entirety of the 2014-15 NBA season, however. Paul George Highlights The NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, released the following statement: “It was difficult to watch the injury that Paul George sustained tonight while representing his country. The thoughts and prayers of all of us at the NBA are with Paul and his family.” Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird said last night: “We are aware of the injury sustained by Paul George in Friday’s Team USA game … and we are obviously greatly concerned. At this time our thoughts and prayers are with Paul.” As are ours, as we wish the baller a speedy return to the court.

Bet she can smell everything… Woman Grows Nose On Back After Failed Paralysis Treatment This isn’t the first case we’ve seen of someone sticking their nose where it doesn’t belong in the name of science and all…but it doesn’t get any less freaky to hear about. Via MailOnline : A woman has developed a nose-like growth eight years after a stem cell treatment to cure her paralysis failed. At the Hospital de Egas Moniz in Lisbon, Portugal, the unnamed woman, a U.S. citizen, had tissue from her nose implanted in her spine. Doctors hoped the cells would develop into neural cells and help repair the nerve damage to the woman’s spine. But the treatment failed. However, last year, eight years after the stem cell operation, the woman, then 28, complained of increasing pain in the area. Doctors discovered a three-centimetre-long growth, which was found to be mainly nasal tissue, as well as bits of bone and nerve branches that had not connected with the spinal nerves. Stem cells – or ‘master cells’ – are capable of turning into other cell types, so are widely seen as a repair kit for the body. While often championed as the future of medicine, stem cells’ ability to metamorphasise and increase carries an inherent danger, namely that when when implanted into a person they could turn into dangerous cancer cells. Stem cells save lives and cure diseases and what not…but don’t sign us up until they work all the kinks out. SMH.

Formaldehyde was drippin’ all ova her bawwwwwwwwwdy… Nurse At California Hospital Sentence 2 Years In Jail For Sex With Dead Woman’s Body Via RadarOnline A nurse who had sex with a corpse at Sherman Oaks Hospital in California was sentenced to two years in county jail Tuesday, prosecutors said. Alejandro Razo, 62, also was ordered to serve 180 days of those two years under supervised release, the Los Angeles Times reports. During his release, Razo must attend counseling sessions and sex offender meetings. The California nurse was found guilty June 26 of having sex with the corpse of an 82-year-old woman. She had died of natural causes at the hospital. Razo had been assigned to prepare it for the mortuary in January 2013, prosecutors said. But another nurse walked in when Razo allegedly had his pants down having sex with the corpse. He was soon arrested on the suspicion of health and safety code violations. Prosecutors used DNA evidence to convince the 62-year-old. Razo’s nursing license has been suspended, but not revoked, according to district attorney spokesman Ricardo Santiago. The driver of of a truck who fell asleep at the wheel on the New Jersey Turnpike early Saturday morning has been charged with one count of vehicular homicide and four counts of assault by motor vehicle. Kevin Roper, a 35-year old resident of Georgia, plowed into a limo bus carrying Tracy Morgan and multiple other passengers, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed via statement. The resulting accident has left Morgan in critical condition and killed comedian James McNair, one of Morgan’s good friends and mentors. “He’s not in good shape,” Morgan’s ex-wife Sabina Morgan told The Daily News. “I’m traumatized. I’m so upset. I can’t believe it. It’s like I’m in a nightmare.” Bail for Roper has been set at $50,000. The mother of three of Morgan’s children said the 30 Rock actor suffered a broken leg and was lying unconscious at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick this morning. Morgan and his party were returning from a gig in Delaware when a tractor-trailer driving northbound in the center lane cut to the left at the last second to avoid traffic. It collided with Morgan’s limo, which was overturned and which then hit another tractor-trailer; in all, six cars were involved in the fatal mishap. Tracy and another passenger were airlifted from the scene to the hospital. Thoughts and prayers for Morgan have been pouring out via Twitter throughout the day. “Sending prayers to Tracy Morgan and all involved in the accident!! We never know what can happen at anytime!” Diddy wrote, while Russell Simmons added: “Prayers to all of those involved in the car crash this morning. Stay strong Tracy Morgan. We love you.”
