Adam Jones Says Baseball Is A White Man’s Sport After Anthem Protest Orioles star Adam Jones recently discussed why certain MLB stars have refused to show support for Colin Kaepernick’s National Anthem protest reports USA Today : It started with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sitting, and later kneeling, during the national anthem during the NFL exhibition season. He was soon joined by teammate Eric Reid. It extended to Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall before Thursday’s NFL season opener. By Sunday, there were four NFL teams with players expressing silent protests, including Martellus Bennett and Devin McCourty of the New England Patriots, who stood with raised fists following the anthem. “We already have two strikes against us already,’’ Baltimore Orioles All-Star center fielder Adam Jones told USA TODAY Sports, “so you might as well not kick yourself out of the game. In football, you can’t kick them out. You need those players. In baseball, they don’t need us. “Baseball is a white man’s sport.’’ Indeed, African Americans comprise 68% of the player population in the NFL, and 74% in the NBA. That number is just 8% in baseball, with only 69 African-Americans on the opening-day rosters and disabled lists this season. Drake Buys $2.85 Million House Next Door To His Current Hidden Hills Mansion Remember when Drake rapped: “I’ll buy the neighbors house if they complain about the noise.” Welp, according to Trulia , that appears to be exactly what happened. If there were ever a reason to “call you on your cellphone,” this would have been it. Hip-hop star Drake (real name: Aubrey Graham) pulled a fast one on all of us last summer and dropped $2.85 million on the beautiful estate next door to his already expansive Hidden Hills, CA, real estate compound. Drake purchased the larger property, a seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom sprawling mansion, back in 2012 for $7.7 million. But he must have decided that scooping up the house next door was a wise business decision — or he needed a massive new guesthouse (with its own guesthouse, naturally) — because last June, he spent $2.85 million to own it. Drake’s new property, built in 1955, is a charming ranch-style house tucked away on a peaceful cul-de-sac. Community Colleges Are Reaching Out To Those In Need Last week, ITT Tech presumably ruined the lives of thousands of its students when they permanently closed the doors of every single campus in the country. ITT Tech’s credits tend not to transfer to other institutions , effectively costing both time and money of their student population. There might be some reprieve however, as community colleges are reaching out to Tech students to help them continue their educational pursuits. via AL.com Community colleges across Alabama are reaching out to former ITT Tech students after the institute’s sudden closure last week. Calhoun Community College will host an information session and open house on September 15 from 4-6 p.m. for students to meet with instructors and representatives from the school’s various programs. There will also be financial aid advisers and counselors available for more information about enrollment. “Our team has met for the last few days in an effort to develop a comprehensive plan as we work with those ITT students who decide to make Calhoun their choice in continuing their higher education goals,” Calhoun President Dr. James Klauber said. The event will be at Calhoun’s Decatur Campus in the Aerospace Training Center. Those interested can call Caroline Canestrari at 256-306-276 for more information or go to calhoun.edu. The school announced that it is shutting its doors today after being investigated by multiple agencies and after the U.S. Dept. of Education said it would stop federal loans for the school’s students. Another school, Athens State University, said on its website that the school is “committed to assisting students wishing to transfer to Athens State to complete their education.” “As a regionally accredited, state-supported University, we are constrained by guidelines that sometimes limit our ability to transfer all credits from all institutions. Nonetheless, given the hardship that the ITT closing has placed on so many students in Alabama and across the country, we welcome the opportunity to review transcripts and course descriptions on request for any possible transfer of credit to our programs,” the school said. Former ITT Tech students have not been notified if their credits from the school will be transferable. According to WALA and WHNT , other schools helping ITT Tech students include the Alabama Aviation Center at the Brookley Field campus in Mobile, J.F. Via Independent : Armed drones could be used by police in the US state of North Dakota after local lawmakers legalised their use. While they will be limited to “less than lethal” weapons, tear gas, tasers, rubber bullets and pepper spray could all be used in theory by the remote controlled flying machines. In a classic case of unintended consequences, the original sponsor, Republican state representative Rick Becker said he was unhappy with the way legislation turned out. His original intention was to prevent law enforcement officials from using the unmanned aerial vehicles from conducting surveillance on private property without a warrant. “In my opinion there should be a nice, red line: Drones should not be weaponised,” he said. The original draft of the House Bill 1328 said: “A state agency may not authorize the use of, including granting a permit to use, an unmanned aircraft armed with any lethal or non-lethal weapons, including firearms, pepper spray, bean bag guns, mace, and sound-based weapons.” However, the state’s police union amended the Bill, limiting the ban to only lethal weapons, meaning that sounds cannons or rubber bullets could be used on police drones, according to The Daily Beast.
