Did he honestly think he could fake his death and live happily ever after? MMA Fighter Fakes Death Once you fake a death, you have to keep a low profile. Some people just don’t think things through. According to NY Daily News: Mixed martial arts promoters Christos Piliafas and Scott DiPonio were shocked to learn that one of their fighters was a suspect in the holdup of a Michigan gun shop this week. After all, it was only two weeks ago that they raised more than $1,000 to help the amateur heavyweight’s family pay for his funeral. Charles Rowan, 25, didn’t die in a February car wreck while en route to his fifth bout, as his girlfriend, Rosalinda Martinez, claimed that night, according to DiPonio. The couple and a friend, Michael Bowman, were in a Gladwin courtroom Friday to hear the charges against them: armed robbery and assault with intent to murder. Each requested a court-appointed attorney. “[He] came and looked me right in the eyes and took the cash and cried and came to my house and stayed the night,” DiPonio said. Rowan, Martinez and Bowman were arraigned Friday in Gladwin District Court. They are scheduled to appear in court again April 1 and remain in the county jail, having not posted bond. According to Gladwin County Sheriff Michael Shea, Martinez called 911 after the robbery and told investigators that she, too, had been attacked. But he said her story didn’t hold up and she, Rowan and Bowman were arrested. “I thought for sure Charlie was dead. I mean, these people were hysterically crying,” said DiPonio, who gave the family $150 for expenses on the spot. Two weeks ago, Piliafas and DiPonio helped raise $1,350 in proceeds and donations through their benefit event, Fight for Charlie. A tearful Bowman showed up to collect the money. Meanwhile, Piliafas and DiPonio are planning to file a fraud claim against Rowan with the Grand Traverse County sheriff’s office. “I want to press charges to the fullest extent,” Piliafas said. “For them to do that, just makes me sick.” Looking back, Piliafas said that even though some initially questioned Rowan’s death, not much could be done about those concerns. “I had people saying this was a little bit fishy. There was no obit. There was no funeral service. But in that situation, you want to be sensitive to the family,” he said. “I didn’t know exactly how to handle it. I didn’t want to go off and say, ‘We’re not doing this. Something’s not right,’ and then have the incident having really happened.” He was dumb for faking his death, but the people who belived he was dead were even dumber.
This is a terribly tragic story. On Sunday, Virginia resident Sally Ann Okuly left her house for the first time in six months, the mother of two finally feeling strong enough to do so after being hit by a motorcycle and being diagnosed with cancer over the past year. But soon after getting the newspaper and a cup of coffee, Okuly was struck and killed by a car. Cancer Survivor Killed by Car “One of her favorite things to do was to walk over across that street to the Wawa gas station,” said her husband, Bill Okuly, who would have celebrated his 41st wedding anniversary with Sally Ann the day after she died. Amanda Styles-Mays was behind the wheel at the time of the accident and has been charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and reckless driving. Bill describes his wife as “the most giving person ever” and tries to find solace in a spirit he believes will always remain with him. “Oh yeah, she’ll always be there,” he says.

According to People: Brittany Murphy’s mother Sharon has come forward to dispute claims by Brittany’s father that her daughter may have been intentionally poisoned before her death in 2009. “I have chosen to stay out of the limelight since the tragic and sudden death of my wonderful, talented, loving daughter four years ago this Dec. 20,” Sharon Murphy writes for The Hollywood Reporter in response to an assertion by Brittany’s estranged father, Angelo Bertolotti, that a new lab test reveals the possibility of foul play. “I have no choice now but to come forward in the face of inexcusable efforts to smear my daughter’s memory by a man who may be her biological father, but was never a real father to her in her lifetime,” Sharon writes. “He has made outrageous statements over the past few years, culminating in this latest madness: that my darling daughter was murdered.” Sharon says that Bertolotti did not parent Brittany as she was growing up, only to resurface when Brittany’s acting career started going well. “Angelo did come out of the woodwork when Brittany was a teenager and found success in a number of TV shows just before she was in Clueless, she says. “But she quickly saw him for who he is – and didn’t want anything to do with him.” Bertolotti alleges the Los Angeles County Coroner should have investigated further and done more testing before determining that both his daughter and his son-in-law, Simon Monjack, died young and only five months apart from natural causes. He sued the coroner last year, and recently held up a lab report, based on Brittany’s hair samples, as proof of possible poisoning. Sharon argues that Bertolotti’s lab is merely an “Internet site” that created a false report, and although she initially disputed the possibility of toxic mold as a cause in her daughter and Simon Monjack’s deaths, she now concedes that it may have been a factor. “We will never know for sure,” Sharon says. “However, we do know the Los Angeles County Coroner did extensive tests and found that she died of natural causes. And now she is a real living angel in heaven.” These two should stop fighting and honor their daughter’s memory.
