The Real Housewives of Miami Recap: Crossing the Cuban Mafia

The Real Housewives of Miami are “A Cause for Concern” as the sequined Cuban mafia snubs a children’s charity. We recap the bitching and bullying in our THG +/- review. It’s the war of the divas in Miami as Lea Black prepares for her annual charity gala. Too bad the Cuban mafia has it out for her. Marysol, Ana, Lauren and Adriana all decide to ditch the event to watch gay polo. Minus 18. What are the odds they at least sent a check to support the charity? Probably not very good. Lea’s counting on Alexia and Herman coming to the event. They said they would. As Lea says, she loves Herman. He “always has a drink too many and spends a dollar too much.” Plus 25. That’s a fundraisers dream guest. But the anti-Lea contingent have different plans for Alexia. They take her to gay polo. Adriana coos, “Polo is already fabulous and when you put gays in it, it’s ten times as fabulous.” I’m not really a polo fan so I’ll have to take her word on that. The ladies are actually judging the different booths and I’m still unsure what the point of it all is. One of them even has a cheetah. Well, Adriana keeps calling it a leopard and either no one knows enough or cares enough to correct her. More importantly, why is there a poor cheetah in a small cage at gay polo? Minus 40. And when they started complaining about the mud, did anyone else hope they’d get their ridiculously high heels caught in it? Back in town, Lea’s trying on her borrowed jewelry. $4 million in diamonds. How about they donate that to charity and we could all go home? Everyone starts to arrive. Actors, singers, Dennis Rodman. Both the fashion elite and the fashionably challenged hit the red carpet.  And Lea’s left waiting for Alexia the Cuban Barbie doll. Minus 13 . Is that moniker an insult or a compliment? Lisa and Lenny show up, albeit a little late. Lenny made up for it by buying his wife an expensive diamond necklace. He says he bought it to cheer her up after their fertility troubles. That’s kind of sweet. Plus 15. But I still want to shake Lisa. Scratch that. The girl’s so darn skinny I’d probably break her. I know she’d rather carry her own child but she should consider herself lucky to be able to afford a surrogate. Most people don’t have that option. Joanna Krupa and Romain grace the red carpet looking absolutely stunning. Back on their cheesy party bus, Adriana’s bad mouthing Romain. She’s trying to make it sound like the confrontation at Alexia’s party was all his fault and he intimidated her. Minus 20 . The truth was she looked like a little yappy Chihuahua that wouldn’t get out of his face. When Alexia tries to make a break for the gala, the Cuban mafia gets in her face. Someone should remind Alexia that she’s a grownup who can choose her own friends. Minus 28 . It’s time to grow a set and remind these girls your not in high school.   But the botoxed bullies continue their tirade and Alexia ends up backing down. Cough, cough. She calls Lea and leaves a message. She’s much too sick to attend the gala, as she promised she would. Minus 50. Someone should ask Alexia what kind of friends the Cuban contingent really are if they threaten to ditch her just because they disagree.  Or perhaps that’s just how the games are played in Miami. Episode total = -129!                    Season total = -380!

UnSportsmanlike Conduct: Canadian Corrections Officers Rock Orange Jumpsuits Bearing Aaron Hernandez’s Name And Number To Patriots/Bills Game

Aaron Hernandez couldn’t be there for the Patriots season opener against the Buffalo Bills but his presence was felt nonetheless… Via NY Daily News reports : Dressed in orange jumpsuits painted with the surname “Hernandez” and the No. 81 on the backs, 10 Canadian men who identified themselves as corrections and police officers stood in Section 102 of Ralph Wilson Stadium on Sunday. They posed with Patriots and Bills fans alike, standing atop their bleacher seats in Row 15 below O.J. Simpson’s retired No. 32 marker in the team’s ring of honor. The men planned to wear the outfits to offer a Hernandez presence at the Patriots’ season opener as Hernandez, the former New England tight end, sat in his solitary cell at the Bristol County House of Correction back in Massachusetts as he awaits his murder trial. Hernandez, 23, was arrested for allegedly orchestrating the killing of Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old landscaper who moonlighted as a linebacker on the Boston Bandits, a team in the New England Football League. Hernandez was arraigned on first-degree murder and five firearms charges in Superior Court Friday afternoon in Fall River, Mass. “He’s guilty,” Kevin Buchan said. “No two ways about it.” Hernandez was not allowed to watch the game, according to sheriff Tom Hodgson. “Absolutely not,” Hodgson said. “No way.” SMH… Do you think these guys went too far or is it an important reminder to society about all the dirt Hernandez was allowed to get away with as an NFL baller before his murderous acts finally caught up to him? Drugs Are Bad M’Kay: University Of Virginia Student Dies From Overdose On Molly At D.C. Nightclub

Sad . Student Dies From Drug Overdose Let this be a lesson to young people who think poppin’ “molly” is cool. According to The NY Daily News Rave drug molly is being blamed for the death of a gifted University of Virginia student who suffered an overdose at a Washington, D.C., club last week. Shelley Goldsmith, 19, a sophomore on scholarship at the prestigious school, took a lethal dose of the designer drug before collapsing at a rave at the club Echostage after midnight on Aug. 31, police sources told The Washington Post. She was pronounced dead later at a local hospital. The promising young student’s shocking death came on the same day two others died from overdosing on molly at the Electric Zoo music festival on Randall’s Island in New York. Investigators in Boston have said they believe a bad batch of the drug, often described as a “pure” form of ecstasy, was being sold throughout the Northeast, leading to more than a dozen late-summer overdoses at clubs and music festivals in Boston, New York and D.C. Three people OD’d on Molly at the Boston House of Blues on Aug. 28, one of them fatally. The Northeast Washington club released a statement saying they were “saddened” to hear about Goldsmith’s death and that managers were cooperating with police. Goldsmith, of Abingdon, Va., attended UVA on a Jefferson Scholarship, reserved for the school’s top students, and spent her free time volunteering at a food bank and her church youth group, according to her obituary. “Shelley deserves a legacy of being someone who cared for people, someone who achieved, someone who contributed, and not a druggie who died,” her father, Robert Goldsmith, told The Post. “That’s not who she was. But if her death can open someone’s eyes, then we need to talk about it,” he said. Washington authorities were awaiting the results of a toxicology test to determine an official cause of death. Prayers go out to her family. Facebook

Texas Company Promotes Business Via Phony Abduction Decal: The Worst Thing Ever?

A sign company in Texas created quite a stir this week via its new marketing campaign. As reported by KWTX in Waco, Hornet Signs had a female employee pose for a decal that shows her bound and seemingly abducted in the back of a pickup truck, proving to motorists just how realistic its decals can be. Of course, the stunt has been met with a bevy of criticism, with many Internet users aghast that the company would exploit violence against women in such a manner. “I wasn’t expecting the reactions that we got, nor was it really anything we certainly condone or anything else,” Hornet Signs owner Brad Kolb told KWTX. “But it was just something…we had to put out there to see who notices it.” The answer? Many people. Some even called the police to report what they believed to be a real-life crime, What do you think of the PR plot? It is…   So wrong! So smart! View Poll »

Lamar Odom: Upbeat, Looking Normal, Acting Healthy?

For a man allegedly in the throes of hardcore drug addiction, Lamar Odom is at least putting on a good front, according to people who have recently seen him. Lamar Odom Resurfaces, Looks Healthy After Leaving Rehab Khloe Kardashian’s estranged husband was spotted having miso soup and hot tea with an unknown man at Japanese restaurant Octopus in L.A. Clad in a T-shirt and shorts and wearing sunglasses and his wedding ring, Odom seemed in good spirits, always “smiling” and “very nice and polite.” Lamar cordially held the door for a guest on his way out of the Roosevelt Lofts, which is next to Octopus, and “seemed upbeat” the source reports. “He was in a good mood and did not seem down at all. In fact, he even stopped to sign a fan’s autograph. He was his normal self, nice and polite.” This is a man who was supposedly cut off by his crack dealer . And who used to get high with “crack head” mistress Polina Polonsky . And who got arrested for DUI and had his license yanked a week ago. And who refused interventions three separate times, left rehab after one day last week because he couldn’t handle it, then kept his wife in the dark. Lamar Odom Watch: Where is He Now? Whatever’s going on with Lamar, he’s never had a bad word to say about anyone, and vice versa. People close to him just want to see him get help. “He had a big heart, and really wanted to help people. Just seeing how he loved to help people,” former NBA teammate Josh Powell told E! News . “He was just such a great energy to be around. When you come across people like that, you kind of carry that with you as you mature and grow.” L.A. Lakers guard Jordan Farmar also reached out via social media, posting a Throwback Thursday pic of him and Odom captioned, “My big homie LO!” “One of the most incredible human beings you’ll ever meet! Nobody is immune to tough times. I love you dog and am always here if you need me! #tbt #family.” Long story short, everyone loves Lamar. Except maybe Lamar. Even Khloe Kardashian kicking him out of the house (twice) was her ultimatum for him to get clean and save himself from a potentially perilous spiral. A court hearing in his DUI case is scheduled for September 27. What will happen between now and then is anyone’s guess.
