Kevin Barnett: Cause of Death Revealed

Earlier this week, the comedy world was stunned by the passing of Kevin Barnett . The highly-respected comic and co-creator of the Fox series Rel was just 32 at the time of his death. Details of Barnett’s final hours remain scarce, but it’s now been confirmed pancreatitis was the comedian’s cause of death. Barnett was vacationing in Mexico at the time of his passing. “We can confirm the death of a U.S. citizen, Kevin Barnett, in Tijuana on Jan. 22,” a U.S. Department of State official told E! News in a statement issued on Thursday. “We offer our sincerest condolences to his family on their loss, and we stand ready to provide all appropriate consular assistance. Out of respect to the family during this difficult time, we have no further comment. “The corresponding autopsy was carried out, which determined that the cause of death was: Non Traumatic Hemorrhage, caused by pancreatitis,” the statement reads. “At the moment his body is still in facilities of the Forensic Medical Service of Tijuana, waiting to be delivered to his family members who are performing the legal proceedings.” Barnett’s final social media post indicated that he was in Mexico, but did not suggest that he was aware of any issues with his health. “In mexico. Bought myself a sweater,” he captioned the post. “Been accused of appropriation several times. In my head I just gave a lady some money so I ain’t cold. Either way. Swag heavy. Mixtape comin.” On social media, Barnett’s friends and fellow comics have been paying heartfelt tribute to the young up-and-comer. “i am so sad,” tweeted Brooklyn 99 star Chelsea Peretti. “Kevin Barnett was an incredible comedian and writer, contributing to Broad City, the stand-up community and beyond,” Comedy Central tweeted Tuesday. “He’ll be greatly missed.” In addition to his work on Rel, Barnett contributed to numerous television shows and movies, including  Broad City, The Carmichael Show and The Heartbreak Kid. A celebration of Barnett’s life hosted by several of his fellow comedians will be held at The Bell House in Brooklyn this evening.

For The First Time Since 1866, There Won’t Be Any Sweetheart Conversation Hearts This Valentine’s Day

Excerpt from:

Source: RobinOlimb / Getty Valentine’s Day can be an amazing day for some, and for others, it’s the most annoying day of the year. But whether or not you enjoy the holiday, chances are you associate those little candy hearts with February 14th–but this year, thing’s are going to be a little bit different. For the first time since 1866, the world will be celebrating Valentine’s Day without SweetHeart’s Conversation Hearts. The New England Confectionary Company (which you might more commonly know as ‘Necco’) is no longer producing the classic Valentine’s Day candy, which means all of us are going to have to find another way to tell our crush how we feel about them. SweetHearts first began making these ever-popular conversation hearts all the way back in 1866. The operation was then taken over by Necco in 1901, and since then, they’ve become the most popular Valentine’s Day candy in approximately 21 states. Last year, CandyStore.com reported that they were the most popular Valentine’s Day candy in America. With all those statistics going in SweetHearts’ favor–why are they not being sold in 2019? Until 2018, Necco was the oldest continually operating candy company—but in July, the company abruptly closed and announced they needed to sell. Someone either needed to buy all of Necco or purchase the brands individually and in September, Necco was purchased by Round Hill Investments, who then sold the SweetHearts brand to Spangler Candy Company. One thing most people probably don’s know about the popular Valentine’s Day candy is how long they take to produce. Because of the insane timespan it takes to create the supply of conversation hearts, Spangler Candy Company didn’t have enough time to make the hearts for 2019. It took Necco 11 months to produce 8 billion conversation hearts—all of which would be sold in the 6 weeks leading up to the holiday. Since Necco’s factories were closed down in July and Spangler didn’t take over until a few months later in September, they weren’t able to keep up with the insane demand for 2019. But there’s some good news for all the Conversation Heart lovers out there: Spangler’s CEO has already announced the hearts will be back on shelves next year in 2020. CandyStore.com  is now reporting that sales of the hearts are down 80 percent from last year, and while you may be able to find a few leftover boxes from 2018, new hearts won’t be hitting shelves at all. If you do find boxes on store shelves—or somewhere online like  on Amazon —just keep in mind that these treats have likely been sitting in a warehouse since last year. But all the lovers out there won’t be left completely empty handed for 2019. Sour Patch Kids made their own conversation hearts this year, which could be a great alternative to the classic we’re doing without.

Kenya Moore Turns 48, Flaunts Post-Baby Body in Sizzling Bikini

In November, just three weeks after her C-section, Kenya Moore showed off her post-baby body . Thursday was her 48th birthday, and Kenya marked the occasion by flexing on everyone. She is rocking a white bikini, showing off her flawless post-baby body. And she’s showing off her baby, too. Happy Birthday, Kenya Moore! On Thursday, January 24, Kenya turned 48 years old. To mark the occassion, she shared a mind-blowing glimpse of her body in a bright white bikini. The Beach photo shows her in the white top and matching cutout bikini bottoms. Her right arm is holding her hair in place. In her left arm, she’s holding her 2-month-old baby, Brooklyn. Kenya looks absolutely, jaw-droppingly incredible. We don’t just mean that she looks good for her age, though very few 48-year-olds have a body as rocking as hers. Very few people have a body that good, period. We also don’t simply mean that Kenya looks good for a woman who got cut open two months ago so that doctors could remove a baby. But she did very much have a C-section in November after suffering from severe preeclampsia. She looks so good, period. When it comes to having the body that you want, money trumps almost everything else. Kenya and her husband, Marc Daly, are fortunate enough to be people of means. This means that Kenya was able to afford firstrate prenatal care, the emergency C-section, and then care afterwards. It also means that wealth (and the ability to afford childcare) gave Kenya the free time to exercise to recover her pre-baby body. The vast majority of mothers cannot “bounce back” from delivering a baby like this. This is especially true for women in their later 40s. Thursday’s birthday bikini pic was not the first time that Kenya flexed on her followers. Just weeks after her C-section, Kenya shared mirror selfies of her body, which was already recovering. “The SnapBack is real! LOL,” Kenya captioned the photos. “I still can’t work out yet but I feel much better,” she shared. “I was cut twice during my 3 hr C-section,” she wrote. “But I made it!” “I’ve always been healthy and worked out my entire life,” Kenya noted. “Whatever my body will do I’m not rushing it.” “It feels good to start to feel myself again,” she gushed. Kenya concluded: “#brooklyndaly is worth every battle scar!” Brooklyn certainly is. Brooklyn is Kenya’s first child. She waited all of her life for the right man, and finally found Marc Daly. Her secret marriage earned her the ire of The Real Housewives of Atlanta producers and may have ultimately been a factor in costing her her peach. But she knew what she wanted in her life and had her priorities in order. Kenya also knew that she was taking serious risks with a pregnancy at her age, but she went with it. We are so, so glad and grateful that both Kenya and Brooklyn made it through that risky pregnancy and are both doing so well. Legacy: A Reflection On Voguing, From Ball Culture To Teyana Taylor’s Music Video

Originally posted here:

Source: Catherine McGann / Getty Over the past few months, Teyana Taylor has been dropping music videos left and right for songs off her  K.T.S.E. album. On Wednesday, “WTP” was the latest visual released, and it was filled with ball culture celebration.   Balls have been organized by LGBTQ people of color for decades now, and they’re continuing to get more recognition thanks to shows like Pose on FX and My House on Viceland. During a ball, individuals or “houses” (a person’s adopted family) can compete in multiple categories, oftentimes for a cash prize, a trophy and maybe most importantly, “legendary” status. There are dozens of categories participants can walk in, but some of the most important ones fall under titles like Butch Queen (usually gay or queer men), Femme Queen (usually trans women or femmes), and of course voguing.   Voguing alone can be broken down into the new way and the old way of dancing. The old way of voguing reached the national spotlight thanks to the 1990 movie Paris is Burning,  and one of its main stars was Willi Ninja.    Willi’s angular, picturesque and precise style of voguing would go on to influence dancers around the world, and it even landed him appearances in music videos like Janet Jackson ‘s “Alright” and “Escapade.” The old way of voguing received an even bigger spotlight when Madonna released her music video for “Vogue” in 1990. Though the music video has been met with  more critical eyes over the years, icons like Luis Xtravaganza  and  Jose Gutierez Xtravaganza  represented for vogue culture in the wildly popular video.   As the years progressed, voguing started to evolve into a new way that many people are familiar with today. This style involves more acrobatic moves and difficult executions such as “duck walks,” “dips” or “death drops.” Masters like Dashaun Wesley,  who appeared in Teyana Taylor’s video, have help carry on this voguing tradition.   Now, with more light being shined on LGBTQ communities of color, voguing has had another resurgence in popular media. Legendary voguers like Leiomy are showing off their skills in Nike commercials…   Even hip hop has been bitten by the vogue bug with Q-Tip featuring ball culture in the music video for his song with Demi Lovato  “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.”   Dancer-singers like FKA Twigs have also kept voguing alive by taking it out of its traditional ballroom setting and placing it on the far edges of the world. FKA’s “Glass & Patron” definitely repped for the technique…   But no matter how far voguing or ball culture goes, it will forever be the product of queer imagination. It’s dedicated LGBTQ community of color will continue to exemplify those who dared to live, create and of course, have fun.

F**k Them Kids: Racist Soup Cookies Of Covington Catholic High School Say Wearing Blackface Is “School Spirit”

Source: Alex Wong / Getty Covington Catholic High School Students Defend Racist Blackface Throw the entire Covington Catholic High School in the trash and set it on fire. It should come as no surprise that Nick Sandmann and his a-hole cronies who jeered and mocked Native American elder Nathan Phillips are getting the royal treatment from not only right-wing cable news, but also from 1600 FUBAR Ave. in Washington, D.C. EXCLUSIVE on the new #LauraIngrahamPodcast — the Covington Catholic students threatened by the leftist internet mob will be meeting with @realDonaldTrump at the White House as early as tomorrow. @iTunes @PodcastOne — Laura Ingraham (@IngrahamAngle) January 22, 2019 Looking like Nick Sandman & Covington Catholic students were treated unfairly with early judgements proving out to be false – smeared by media. Not good, but making big comeback! “New footage shows that media was wrong about teen’s encounter with Native American” @TuckerCarlson — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 22, 2019 Nick Sandmann and the students of Covington have become symbols of Fake News and how evil it can be. They have captivated the attention of the world, and I know they will use it for the good – maybe even to bring people together. It started off unpleasant, but can end in a dream! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 22, 2019 It appears that the school and the kids’ parents are putting their sons out on the trail to do some incredibly insulting PR work in conservative spaces like Trump’s favorite morning show, Fox & Friends . According to The Daily Beast , senior Sam Schroder asked about wearing Blackface, peep his reply: “Five years ago, there was a pep rally where one of the members of the school body appeared to have blackface on. People have even asked you to explain that. How do you explain that?” Schroder, wearing a white button-down shirt and a blue striped tie, said: “I just explain it as showing school spirit. We have many themes. Like nerd, business, whiteout, blueout, blackout—as you’ve seen in the video. Ever since I’ve gone to CovCath, we haven’t been able to wear black paint because of the video, but I know the kids meant nothing by it, it’s just showing school spirit.” Steve Doocy asks a CovCath kid about others wearing blackface at basketball games, and he says since he’s been there “we haven’t been able to wear black paint because of the video, but I know the kids meant nothing by it, it’s just showing school spirit.” pic.twitter.com/rbuO5CKIts — Bobby Lewis (@revrrlewis) January 23, 2019 Blackface is as much about school spirit as KKK hoods are for keeping warm during negro-dragging horseback rides on a bitter cold night. FOH, cr-…soup cookie. We highly suggest you read a very insightful Newsone piece about how these kids are being treated versus how Black kids who are considered “threats” are treated.

Jay-Z and Beyoncé are proving once again to be the finesse queen and king. Their secret to avoiding the press is low key genius. Page Six has seemingly cracked the code on how Hip-Hop’s power couple keeps things low key while they are out on the town. Last week Hov and Bey attended a surprise dinner for Kareem “Biggs” Burke’s 45th birthday at Avra Beverly Hills. The celebratory get together had an all star list of celebrities in the house including Diddy, N.O.R.E., former NBA player Al Harrington, Saint Jhn, Mr. Rugs and Emory “Vegas” Jones. While The Carters apparently stayed for the festivities they made sure to take another route for their exit. According to the gossip rag’s sources “they snuck out through the back as the other guests made their way to the front to distract the paparazzi.” Humbled by the turnout Burke took to his Instagram to give his sincere thanks. “The Love is real!! Thanks for the surprise @rodeoandmadison. Filled with family and friends. A Birthday with memories that will last s lifetime. #blackexcellence.” Photo: WENN.com
