Bird Box Challenge: Netflix Begs Fans to STOP Dangerous Meme

Netflix’s hit film Bird Box took viewers and Twitter by storm and spawned hilarious memes . Unfortunately, it also inspired the Bird Box Challenge, in which people film themselves blindfolded. This is so dangerous that Netflix has put out a PSA begging people to not deliberately blind themselves. Bird Box was a hit on Netflix during this holiday season. It was thrilling and compelling and Sandra Bullock is, as always, an inspired casting choice. Unfortunately, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing, as evidenced by people participating in the “Bird Box Challenge.” In the film, the characters must wear blindfolds most of the time in order to avoid being driven to kill themselves by violent apparitions. Some Netflix viewers with too much time on their hands decided to “challenge” themselves to navigate while  blindfolded. Whether it’s in their homes or outdoors, the results tend to be either boring, messy, or dangerous. Putting on a blindfold does not magically transform you into the titular character of Daredevil . In fact, outside of the bedroom, it usually just leads to injuries. This is so bad that Netflix themselves have stepped in on social media. In a tweet on Wednesday, Netflix implored their followers to let this trend die as quickly as it sprang into being. “Can’t believe I have to say this,” the tweet begins. “But: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE.” “We don’t know how this started,” Netflix says. “And we appreciate the love,” “But Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019,” the tweet reads. Netflix concludes: “and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.” That’s a pretty good wish. Unlike actual memes, which involve photos and videos and are usually harmless, challenge culture can be dangerous. Popular on video-sharing sites and especially on YouTube, people vie for social media clout by emulating others. The pressure to make your video not only watchable but sensational — in the hopes of going viral — can be dangerous. Participants — especially teens, but also grown-ass adults — can and do endanger themselves in their desperate effort for clicks. Viral fame can transform someone’s life, so they’re willing to risk it all. But you know what else can change your life? A life-altering injury . It’s right there in the name. This of course brings to mind a challenge that was passed around in January of 2018. Harmless memes shared on social media about forbidden snacks — household items that people had resisted eating as children — spawned a challenge. The Tide Pod Challenge was mostly an inflated joke, as people would edit videos to make it appear that they ate laundry detergent. There were people who, perhaps not realizing that the videos were edited, were not in on the joke. A few people tried to earn social media clout by actually putting tide pods into their mouths. Though only a handful of people genuinely participated, we would remind members of the TGH Nation: please do not ingest bleach. Just as you would not ingest dish soap in the hopes of racking up YouTube views, please do not participate in the Bird Box challenge. We don’t know how many people are actually doing it and how many are filming themselves acting out rehearsed blunders. Regardless, actually depriving yourself of eyesight for fun is just a recipe for disaster. Head injuries are no joke. And quite frankly, neither is a stubbed toe. If you are lucky enough to have eyesight, use it to navigate your world safely. Not everyone is so lucky. View Slideshow: Bird Box Memes Hilariously Take Over Twitter

Smooth Presidential Jams: Barack Obama Debuts On Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs Chart

Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty President Obama Just Landed A Spot On The Billboard Charts Barack Obama has just scored a spot on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart. Y’all’s lil president could never. The Hawaii native debuted on this week’s list for his contribution to the new gospel-inspired arrangement of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton hit “One Last Time (44 Remix),” according to Billboard . Obama’s contribution to the song (unfortunately) doesn’t include any singing, but he delivers his rendition of George Washington’s farewell address on the track–which also features original Hamilton cast member Christopher Jackson and gospel star BeBe Winans. The song is a variation on the original song from Hamilton and debuted at No. 22, one slot above the John Legend’s holiday hit, “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.” Lin-Manuel Miranda released the track on December 20 as his last “Hamildrop” of the 2018, and of course, its title is an obvious nod to Obama being the 44th U.S. president. President Obama’s history with Miranda dates back to 2009, when the he held “An Evening of Poetry, Music & Spoken Word” at the White House. Miranda rapped a song from what he was calling his “Hamilton Mixtape,” and the performance garnered tens of thousands of views online. That event is what helped inspire the full-blown 2016 musical that went on to win the New Yorker’s musical 11 Tony awards, as well as the 2016 Grammy for best musical theater album and the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for drama. The entire cast visited the White House in 2016 and Miranda once again returned in 2017 to perform “One Last Time” as a tribute to Obama at the end of his second term.

Get Your Life Together: ASAP Bari Fined After Pleading Guilty To One Count Of Sexual Assault In London

Source: Edward Berthelot / Getty ASAP Bari Pleads Guilty To Sexual Assault, Gets Fined £4,000 ASAP Bari  has officially pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual assault in London. According to reports from  iTV , Bari has been fined £4,000 (approximately $5,034) in lieu of jail time, and must also pay £2,500 (approximately $3,145) to the victim. “The court does have concerns in this matter because it has exposed a very unpleasant attitude by you towards women,” Judge Zoe Smith QC said on Thursday of the footage that originally surfaced back in 2017. “You say that you were angry but there is no need to ever be so abusive and humiliating to a female.” The footage showed Bari pulling bed covers off a naked woman before slapping her buttocks. He is also seen telling the woman to give him oral sex. “The defendant flew back to America later that same morning,” prosecutor James Lofthouse said, per a separate  report  from the  Mirror . “However, about three to four days later she (the victim) became aware through her mother that footage had been circulating on the internet. It’s that footage we have seen in court. Following that she of course got back in touch with the officer.” In a statement from Bari’s team, initially released after the footage in question surfaced online in 2017, Bari first described the clip as being misleading. “Comments about myself or anyone being detained or arrested are false,” Bari’s rep claimed at the time. At one point, Bari was suing the woman seen in the clip for defamation and civil extortion.  Reports  from August 2018 show that Bari argued the woman was “pressuring him into settling.” He also claimed at the time that the woman, referred to in court documents as Jane Doe, initially told local authorities that he did not sexually assault her but later changed her story for court.

Bob Einstein Dies; Curb Your Enthusiasm Star & Super Dave Osborne Creator Was 76

Sad news out of Hollywood today, as actor and comedian Bob Einstein has passed away at the age of 76. Einstein was best known for his roles on Arrested Development  and Curb Your Enthusiasm , and as the creator of the popular character Super Dave Osborne. Reps for Einstein say that he had recently been diagnosed with cancer. Einstein was the older brother of comedy legend Albert Brooks who paid tribute on Twitter moments ago: “R.I.P. My dear brother Bob Einstein,” Brooks wrote. “A great brother, father and husband. A brilliantly funny man. You will be missed forever.” Einstein is likely best known to modern audiences for his recurring roles as Marty Funkhouser on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Larry Middleman on Curb Your Enthusiasm . But what younger fans might not realize is that he had been a fixture in Hollywood since the 1960s, when he got his start writing for the legendary Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Einstein was pursuing a career in advertising when Tom Smothers spotted him performing at an open mic night in Los Angeles. Smothers invited the 26-year-old to the set of his show, an opportunity that Einstein later said transformed his life. “Tom Smothers made our life by giving us that,” he stated in a 2017 interview. In the ’80s, Einstein created the Super Dave Osborne, a hapless stuntman character who made regular appearances on the TV show Bizarre, as well as on Late Night With David Letterman, before spawning his own series. Super Dave ran on Showtime from 1987-91. The character was revived for a Spike TV special in 2009. While he may not have been a household name to those outside of the entertainment industry, in the comedy world, Einstein was a bonafide legend. News of his passing has made Einstein a worldwide trending topic on Twitter, with thousands of tributes pouring in from family, friends, and fans. Einstein is survived by his wife Roberta Einstein, his daughter Erin Einstein Dale, and his two grandchildren, Ethan and Zoe. Our thoughts go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.

In 1984, Okerlund made the move to WWE where he became a staple on national cable television by continuing to interview the biggest names in sports-entertainment like Hogan, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior and many more. Louis C.K. Gets Torn to Shreds by Father of Parkland Shooting Victim

It’s a new year. But it’s the same old Louis C.K. Actually, that’s not even accurate: it’s a somewhat different Louis C.K. than the one who came across as mostly harmless and well-intentioned before he was outed as a serial and offensive masturbator . As you very likely have read about by now, leaked audio of a recent stand-up set by the controversial comedian went viral late last week. It featured C.K. making fun of non-binary individuals who wish to be referred to by the pronouns “they” or “them,” and it also featured the star mocking survivors of that school shooting in Parkland, Florida . A quick and horrifying refresher : On February 14, 2018, a gunman opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, murdering seventeen students and staff members and injuring seventeen others. In the wake of this tragedy, a handful of the students who survived have spoken out passionately about the country’s need for more strict gun control legislation. And C.K. apparently finds this appalling. “Testify in front of Congress, these kids, what the f-ck? What are you doing?” says C.K. in this audio clip , adding in a very strange attempt to be funny: “Cause you went to a high school where kids got shot, why does that mean I have to listen to you? Why does that make you interesting? “You didn’t get shot. You pushed some fat kid in the way and now I gotta listen to you talking?” The backlash to this lame joke was swift and savage, with many associated with the Parkland massacre speaking out on social media. “It’s a shame when you sink so low that your comeback plan is to make fun of school shooting survivors for speaking out,” Stoneman Douglas graduate Ryan Deitsch said on Twitter. He later urged folks to stop discussing this subject in order to rob C.K. of the publicity: “While I appreciate members of the press for doing their duties, I & hopefully others will decline to speak more on this subject. “This will only grant further attention to an individual whose deplorability belongs left behind as we all ascend into a brighter new year.” For a very understandable reason, however, Fred Guttenberg could not follow this advice.  Having lost his 14-year-old daughter, Jamie, in the attack, Guttenberg addressed C.K. directly with a pointed message: “To anyone who knows Louis CK, please deliver this message for me. My daughter was killed in the Parkland shooting. “My son ran from the bullets. My wife and I deal with loss everyday. Why don’t you come to my house and try out your new pathetic jokes?” Elsewhere in his set, C.K. wondered why teenagers these days aren’t just getting drunk and partying and simply relaxing and having fun, just like they did in his day. Parkland survivor Kyra Parrow has the perfect response to this question. Although taking jello shots & eating mushrooms might have been ideal for you when you were 18, that is not the luxury that we have after having to see our friends and classmates in caskets because of preventable gun violence.

Timeless Gift: Jay-Z & Beyoncé Dedicate Prospect Park Bench To His 93-Year-Old Grandmother

Read more:

Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty It could be tough when trying to figure out what to gift the matriarch of your family, cause they usually have it all. When it comes to finding the perfect gift for his 93-year-old grandmother Hattie White, Jay-Z found that gift in the form a monument that will stand the test of time. Hov, Beyoncé, their three children, his mother Gloria Carter and her mom were in Prospect Park on Christmas Eve to see and take photographs with the engraved bench the rapper gifted to his grandmother. As reported by the Jay-Z Instagram fan account @aintnojigga  in a now deleted post the engraving states: “Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago. With love and admiration to our root, Hattie White.”  It’s no secret how influential Hattie has been on their lives and in the couple’s music. Jay-Z references his grandmother in his exceptional verse on Meek Mill’s track “What’s Free,” and Beyoncé’s album Lemonade was reportedly inspired by Hattie’s speech from her 90th birthday celebration in 2015 when she stated: “I had my ups and downs, but I always find the inner strength to pull myself up. I was served lemons, but I made lemonade.” If that sounds familiar to you, it was also featured at the end of the song “Freedom” which is narrated by White herself. This was definitely a fantastic tribute from Hov and Bey indeed to the Brooklyn native. — Photo: Kevin Mazur / Getty
