Bobby Petrino Fired By University of Arkansas Over Jessica Dorrell Affair

The University of Arkansas has fired head football coach Bobby Petrino after he attempted to conceal, and later admitted to an “inappropriate relationship” with his recently hired 25-year-old employee, Jessica Dorrell. Petrino’s relationship with Dorrell lasted a “significant” amount of time, and at one point, Petrino gave her $20,000 out of his own pocket as a “gift.” Dorrell, a former Arkansas volleyball player (below), was hired by Petrino on March 28, only four days before both were involved in a motorcycle crash on a rural road outside the city, prompting the coach to lie but ultimately exposing Petrino’s affair . Jessica Dorrell, who reportedly called off an engagement one week before the accident, has hired a lawyer and could sue for sexual harassment. As the story unfolded after Petrino crashed his motorcycle 10 days ago, many Arkansas faithful came to their coach’s defense, rallying to show support and pleading with the administration to forgive Petrino and move forward. But in the end, Bobby Petrino accepted the fate he earned – dismissal. In a statement, issued after the announcement, Petrino was contrite: The simplest response I have is: I’m sorry . These two words seem very inadequate. But that is my heart. All I have been able to think about is the number of people I’ve let down by making selfish decisions. I’ve taken a lot of criticism in the past. Some deserved, some not deserved. This time, I have no one to blame but myself. I chose to engage in an improper relationship. I also made several poor decisions following the end of that relationship and in the aftermath of the accident. I accept full responsibility for what has happened. I’m sure you heard (athletic director) Jeff Long’s reasons for termination. There was a lot of information shared. Given the decision that has been made, this is not the place to debate Jeff’s view of what happened. In the end, I put him in the position of having to sort through my mistakes and that is my fault. I have hurt my wife Becky and our four children. I’ve let down the University of Arkansas, my team, coaching staff and everyone associated with the Arkansas Razorback football program.

George Zimmerman Charged With Second-Degree Murder in Trayvon Martin Case

George Zimmerman will face criminal charges in the death of Trayvon Martin. According to a senior law enforcement quoted by CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC and the Associated Press, the neighborhood watch captain in Sanford, Fla., will be charged criminally in the February 26 case that has captivated the nation. A legal analyst said earlier that the most likely charge would be manslaughter, but it was just announced that Zimmerman faces second-degree murder charges. A press conference announcing the decision took place at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Angela Corey, the special prosecutor appointed by Florida Gov. Rick Scott to look into the incident, stated earlier that she would not take the case to a grand jury . That automatically ruled out first-degree murder as an option, but the second-degree murder charge was still on the table – and ultimately what Corey decided. “I can tell you we absolutely did not come to this decision lightly,” Corey told reporters moments ago. “We do not prosecute by public pressure.” Zimmerman is in custody, Corey confirmed, though she gave no additional details. CNN reports that he surrendered to local officials earlier today. Lawyers for Zimmerman, 28, stepped down from the case Tuesday, saying he’d become uncommunicative and expressing concern for his emotional and physical well-being. “As of the last couple days, he has not returned phone calls, text messages or emails,” Craig Sonner, one of Zimmerman’s former attorneys, said.

Whitney Houston 911 Call: Released, Tragic

The 911 call placed moments after Whitney Houston’s body was found in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton hotel on February 11 has just been released. A member of the hotel security team is the person who made the call, informing the 911 operator about a “46-year-old female found in the bathroom.” The caller says he was alerted to the situation by an “irate” woman who called security from the room, but couldn’t get much information from her. A woman who first dialed security kept hanging up for whatever reason, preventing the dispatcher from giving potentially life-saving instructions faster. Listen to the Whitney Houston 911 call below: Whitney Houston 911 Call “I’m not sure if she fell or if she was in the bathroom with the water,” the hotel security employee says of Whitney Houston, who he never identifies by name. The security team member was under the impression she was not breathing, and the 911 dispatcher sent emergency personnel there immediately. Too late, as it turned out, as the star couldn’t be revived. Whitney’s official cause of death is listed as “accidental drowning,” with foul play ruled out . Heart disease and cocaine use were contributing factors, according to Houston’s autopsy report , and the legendary singer may well have overdosed. The L.A. County Coroner said Whitney’s chronic use of drugs caused a narrowing of her arteries, which resulted in a cardiac event before her death.

Kony 2012 Part II: Sequel Released, Seeks to Silence Critics

A month after Kony 2012, the documentary about the crimes of indicted Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony, took the Internet by storm, a sequel has arrived. A sequel that’s more of a follow-up to capitalize on the success of the original, which drew more than 100 million views on YouTube, but a sequel just the same. The non-profit Invisible Children released a new film, Kony 2012: Part II – Beyond Famous, today. You can watch the 20-minute expose in its entirety here: KONY 2012: Part II – Beyond Famous Kony 2012 drew attention to the reign of terror by Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army and examined strategies activists take to stop the guerilla leader. Accused of kidnapping children and turning them into soldiers, among other war crimes, the Ugandan national has become persona non grata … everywhere. Missing from the sequel is Jason Russell, the Invisible Children co-founder who directed the first installment and ended up arrested and hospitalized after an unbelievable meltdown earlier this month near his home in San Diego. As he recovers, Invisible Children seeks to silence critics that the group practices “slacktivism,” i.e. oversimplifying issues and having the adverse effect of elevating Kony’s celebrity instead of tackling the complexities of the subject. “One month later, we are releasing this film to explain the creation of the campaign, the progress that’s already been made and what we can all do now to put a stop to the violence of the LRA,” says narrator Ben Keesey in the new film. This time around, the film expounds on things that went unmentioned in Kony 2012, like the fact that Kony and his army had abandoned northern Uganda in 2006 and that the conditions in the region have vastly improved. The African outlaw remains a threat to neighboring countries, however. They also aim to provide viewers with ways to make a difference, including contacting U.S. policymakers and calling on them to increase funding to help end the conflict in central Africa and capture Joseph Kony himself.

Source: Mother of Whitney Houston "Inconsolable" Over Autopsy Findings

In the hours following the release of the full Whitney Houston autopsy – which details a drug-laden hotel room and the state of the singer’s dead body, lying face down in a bathtub, blood pooling off her nose – many fans of the singer are reacting with disgust and sadness. But that’s nothing compared to the state of Whitney’s mother, Cissy. Insiders tell TMZ that Cissy Houston is “devastated” and “inconsolable” over these findings, crying uncontrollably after reading the evidence that her daughter suffered from a deep-seeded cocaine problem. “No one’s perfect. Only the Lord can judge,” Cissy has reportedly said in response to the sad truth, with her biggest fear being folks will now remember Whitney as a drug addict and not as one of the all-time great singers. Cissy simply hopes the public considers Houston’s iconic National Anthem at the 1991 Super Bowl before they think of the troubles that followed.

Whitney Houston Autopsy Reveals Cocaine Spoon, Bloody Nose and More

The complete Whitney Houston autopsy is in, and it reveals a number of harrowing details regarding the singer’s death on February 11. The document states that a “spoon with a white crystal-like substance on it” was found in the hotel room in which Whitney died, along with a “white powdery substance” later tested and determined to be cocaine . Houston’s body was found face down in the bathtub – in approximately 13 inches of water, the report adds -with “bloody purge coming from her nose.” Moreover, a “perforation of posterior nasal septum” made it clear that the singer had a history of drug use. There were no signs of foul play, officials included, while also writing up a detailed account of Houston’s surroundings. It reads as follows: “Located on the south portion of the counter was a small spoon with a white crystal-like substance in it and a rolled up piece of white paper, along with other miscellaneous items.” Located in the top drawer, in the north side of the counter were remnants of a white powdery substance, and a portable mirror on a base. Whitney Houston’s Final Autopsy Results Revealed

Loose pills and a small spoon with a ‘white crystal like substance’ were found in late singer’s hotel room. By Kara Warner Whitney Houston Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage Although the official cause of Whitney Houston’s death was recently announced as accidental drowning , the L.A. County coroner released its final report Wednesday (April 4) that provides new details about Houston’s condition when authorities arrived on the scene at the Beverly Hilton on February 11. According to the report obtained by People and E! Online , Houston complained of a sore throat so she decided to take a bath before getting ready for Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party. When Houston’s assistant returned to the hotel room after running an errand, the singer was face down in the bathtub in 13 inches of “extremely hot” water, which caused a burn on Houston’s back. When police arrived on the scene, they found an open bottle of champagne, bottles of prescription drugs and loose pills scattered about the room. In the bathroom, they found an ashtray with several cigarette butts and a small spoon with a “white crystal like substance in it and a rolled up piece of white paper.” The report also states that the white substance was found on a small mirror. Kristy McCracken of the Beverly Hills Police Department wrote in her final report that she reasoned Houston “possibly overdosed on a narcotic substance, prescription medications, over the counter medications and alcohol” and noted a “bloody purge” coming out of Houston’s nose, as well as minor abrasions on her face, arms and legs. Aside from the traces of cocaine, Benadril, the muscle relaxer Flexeril, marijuana and Xanax found in the toxicology screening, the report cited Houston’s body as being “well built, muscular and fairly well nourished.” The man who performed the autopsy, Dr. Christopher Rogers, chief of the coroner’s Forensic Medicine Division, and chief medical examiner-coroner Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran wrote that Houston’s drowning was due to the effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use. They also detected mild emphysema, pulmonary edema and leiomyomas (benign tumors) in her uterus. Houston was laid to rest in her hometown of Newark, New Jersey , on February 19.
