15 Deaths That Murdered Good TV Shows

Killing off TV characters is risky business.  You run the risk of ruining a good show, and pissing off a lot of fans in the process.  We've rounded up 15 deaths that completely were essentially the death knell for their respective shows.  Do you agree with these takes? 1. Smurf – Animal Kingdom This one is very recent, but what the heck? Ellen Barkin’s Smurf was one of the only reasons to tune into Animal Kingdom. She was quick-witted, badass, and crazy. Those are great traits for a TV character! 2. Rhaegal – Game of Thrones Game of Thrones spent years saying just how strong the dragons were, so to have Euron wipe Rhaegal out with ease left many fans wondering what the heck the creators were thinking of when they thought it would be a good twist. It was the first major disappointment in what was ultimately a terrible final season for the HBO epic. 3. Tara – True Blood True Blood turned to crap long before the pitiful series finale, and that was thanks in large part to the death of Tara aka one of the best characters. Tara’s relationship with Pam was going to strength to strength when she was killed off in a pretty nonsensical way. 4. Laurel – Arrow Just when it seemed like the writers were finally starting to realize that Katie Cassidy’s character had a huge fanbase, they killed her off. It was pretty bizarre, and the backlash resulted in them bringing back another iteration of the character that ultimately became known as Laurel. 5. Mike -Desperate Housewives Desperate Housewives managed to remain fresh for most of its eight-season run, but the show will always be remembered for jumping the shark ahead of its finale when it opted to kill off Mike Delfino. 6. Cristal – Dynasty When Dynasty Season 1 ended with Cristal in a burning barn with a gunshot to the abdomen, fans thought the character would make a miraculous recovery for Season 2. However, Nathalie Kelley was written out of the series, and another actress stepped in as a new Cristal. Yikes. View Slideshow

Idris Elba To Star In Film About Philadelphia’s Black Cowboys

T hroughout his entire career London-born actor Idris Elba has used his craft as an avenue to bring narratives about Black pioneers to the big screen. Six years after playing the role of South African revolutionary Nelson Mandela in the film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom , Elba will now star in a movie about the unsung stories of Philadelphia’s Black cowboys, Deadline reported. Production is now underway on #ConcreteCowboys , with Idris Elba starring with #StrangerThings ‘ Caleb McLaughlin https://t.co/QGTQhbG0nM — Deadline Hollywood (@DEADLINE) August 8, 2019 The film—titled Concrete Cowboys —is centered on the Fletcher Street Stables. Fletcher Street is a Black horsemanship community that has been in existence for over a century. It was cultivated as an outlet to help Black men and boys escape communities plagued by violence and crime and learn about the importance of discipline and responsibility. The film follows the journey of a teen who was sent to live with his father in North Philly. While adjusting to the new environment and bearing witness to the impact of gentrification and poverty, the teen discovers the community’s urban cowboy culture and explores how horse riding is used to escape the dire circumstances faced by those in the neighborhood. Concrete Cowboys is loosely based on a book penned by author Greg Neri titled Ghetto Cowboy . Actors Caleb McLaughlin , Jharrel Jerome , Byron Bowers , and Lorraine Toussaint star alongside Elba in the film. The film is being produced by Elba’s production company Green Door Pictures, Tucker Tooley Entertainment, and Lee Daniels Entertainment. Ricky Staub will serve as the film’s director. “Idris had expressed a desire to be involved in projects uplifting to the African American community,” Staub told Philly Mag in an interview. “Idris has a huge heart in wanting to uplift new voices and to make an impact on the community.” As for the real-life “Concrete Cowboys,” they’re excited to see the story be transformed into a film. Ika Bradford says Fletcher Street Stables has forever impacted his life. “I had my time and share of doing this and doing that, all the bad things that ended me up in jail. Just being around the horses keep me calm,” he told ABC 6 . “Just have something to do. Stay out of trouble. Take your mind out of things in the hood, they’re playing basketball in the hood, but there’s nothing like a horse stable, I’ll tell you that.” The film is currently in production and there is no word on when it is slated to be released. Cherry’s Hair Love came across our computer screen, we rejoiced at imagery that showed a Black father and daughter in such a positive light. It was the representation we rarely see, even if it is a cartoon. MUST READ:  Animated Short Film ‘Hair Love’ Celebrates Black Father & Daughter Relationships Hair Love , an animated short film about a father who takes on the battle of doing his daughter’s hair, will premiere ahead of The Angry Birds 2 movie in theaters this weekend, broadcasting the image in front of millions of children and families. We caught up with director Matthew A. Cherry and producer Peter Ramsey, who both opened up about creating the animated short and why it is important for all to see. HelloBeautiful: What inspired you to create Hair Love? Matthew:  I was seeing a lot of viral videos of African-American dads doing their daughter’s hair hitting the timeline and I always like to share family friendly stuff like that. They were going extra viral, 100K retweets, and I would always share videos of moms interacting with their kids too and it would do OK but never as big as that. Obviously they were cute videos but I would come to learn later that part of it was that people weren’t used to seeing these images of African-American fathers doing these type of interactions with their kids (especially when the hair would be moving and breaking rubber bands and hitting dad in the eye). The idea of hair having a mind of its own was the linchpin that created this idea. HB: How does it feel to finally have your work being shown on such a massive platform after so much work to get it made and funded? Matthew:  It’s kind of surreal. This literally started with an idea through Kickstarter and for it to be a New York Times best selling book and now about to be in theaters across the country is pretty crazy. It’s definitely surreal. I just really hope that it inspires other creators. Sometimes i think we waste so much time reaching out to people thinking that they have to help us with our ideas and help move them forward and sometimes all you have to do is put it out there and take that risk and bet on yourself and trust that you can raise the money yourself and get the idea to other likeminded creatives that will be able to help you with it and bring it to market. HB: How was it for you to be involved in the short film and taking on the role as Executive Producer? How was that process for you?  Peter: It was great because from minute one, I believed in Matthew. I knew he was a really talented, energetic, inspiring guy in his work and in his life. I got to see the story he wanted to tell and it felt like it was right for the time, its got its heart in the right place, it’s going to really speak to people, all of those things made it really easy for me. Really I’ve just been a cheerleader. I’ve just been doing whatever I could, whether it’s advice or encouragement or whatever little thing I could offer to help move it down the line. It’s Matthew and a fantastic team of really talented people working on it that have really brought it to life. Matthew:  Yeah, Bruce Smith, Everett Downing, Stacey Newton, Monica Young, Karen Toliver. It’s a great team. Peter : It’s been a whole lot of work and whole lot of love What did you learn about fatherhood in the process?  Peter:  I have three kids. I’ve experienced a lot of moments like this. I think from this film specifically, the thing that jumps out at me is a lot of it is about people supporting each other in family. You can see everybody in this family in some way shape or form has supported each other. It’s about the idea of a father listening to his daughter and her communicating something that’s really important to her and him understanding why it’s so important and doing what he can to help her express who she is and what she feels. I think that’s a huge part of what drives this movie and makes it feel special. It might not be something you think about watching it but that’s what’s under the surface. That part of a parent/child relationship I think is something people need to pay a lot of attention to and think about that because even the smallest kid is still a real person deserving respect and being allowed to express themselves. The convention for The National Association of Black Journalists or NABJ kicks off every year for journalists, students, and media-related professionals. There, folks learn firsthand key strategies in media, socialize professionally, and seek career opportunities. This year it took place in sunny & humid Miami, Florida. Source: @AieshaArab / IG The workshop was hosted by BOSSIP’s deputy editor Danielle Canada who emceed a panel of our viral headline experts on staff, including senior editor Jennifer H. Cunningham, Aiesha Letman (myself), Jason Lee and, Alex Ford. Bruce Wright, managing editor of our fellow Interactive One site News One was also there to assist. In the workshop, our writers were asked the FAQs behind the manufacturing of a standout headline, regardless of the voice of the publication. Attendees learned about the importance of headline writing as it pertains to ideation and creating viral moments. And…when is a headline too far? Jason Lee was there to assist with the latter. Of course, this question was directed at our site, specifically.  So, how do we not “cross the line”? What is offensive or ‘racist’ to white folks? Jason says, ‘As far as (mayo), aioli and those sort of things…if white people are offended by certain things, then that’s fine but the dynamic is different. We are a Black site, we are Black people, normally we’re the oppressed people. So, if the worst you have to deal is being called a ‘mayo-packet’ behind somebody who did something racist, something stupid, then in my mind, you kinda have to chalk that.’ New One’s Bruce Wright had an important point to add, saying: ‘I don’t think we should only single out Black media for doing what the original media created and is still doing on now.’ Alex Ford probably in one short sentence gave the crux of what you need to create a viral moment. ‘We’re not just writing these headlines for you to just see them and laugh. If you read some of the posts, their actually well-written, comedically. Also, your use of language. Find that one word that represents what you’re trying to say. Word choice is important. ‘ BOSSIP is proud to be a completely unique voice at the intersection of Black culture, entertainment, and political-awareness. Ashley Martson has clearly done a lot of soul-searching, self-care, and healing since Jay cheated on her with six side hoes . The repeated humiliations were a lot to endure, but now she’s focusing on what matters: her family. In fact, Ashley has even shared an ultra-rare photo of her kids as she spends quality time with them. Take a look: Over the weekend, Ashley Martson shared a photo of herself with her two children. Hands clasped together, they walked along the Ocean City Boardwalk. “It doesn’t get any better than this,” Ashley captions the image. Her tags include: “#fam, #momlife, #beach.” As always, Ashley’s children are not facing the camera as part of her efforts to shield them from her 90 Day Fiance fame. One follower asked why they couldn’t see her children’s faces. “I don’t post their faces. I wouldn’t ever,” Ashley replied. “I want them to stay private. That’s why you don’t see much of them.” “Where is Jay?” asked another — someone either woefully out of the loop or simply trolling. Ashley fired back with the perfect reply: “I’m sorry, who?” “You are a emotional strong, beautiful woman,” praiseda  fan. “Don’t let a piece of crap run you down.” “Thank you!” Ashley gushed. “He got me for a little but mommas back and better than ever.” “You are such a beautiful and strong parental figure, I hope you all had an amazing time together,” praised another follower. “Your health and kiddos are first,” affirmed a fan. “You don’t need the added stress of a player in your life.” “Keep doing you boss lady, single moms get all the scrutiny and have to be tough as nails,” characterized another. That same comment continued: “I am a huge fan! You are a great mom and beautiful person.” “I wish you the best… I wanted you to be happy with Jay,” expressed a follower. The comment continued: “I am sorry you got so hurt. Better you didn’t waste more years on him. God bless….take care of yourself and your family,” “Youre goodlooking and smart Ashley,” praised another fan. “You need to meet a man!” They suggest: “Someone with education and a good job and is stable!!! No more little boys! You need to be wined and dined no more kiddy s–t!” Counterpoint: Jay is a 21-year-old adult and women are allowed to be cougars and still expect fidelity. “Your health and kiddos are first,” emphasizes another follower. “You don’t need the added stress of a player in your life,” the comment affirms. “My wife has Lupus and Stress causes a lot of flare ups for her too.” “I was annoyed with on the show when you called the police to have jay deported,” admited a follower. They clarified: “Not because you wanted him deported – but because it was a petty waste of police’s time.” “That being said,” the comment concluded. “I do actually thing you are one of the smartest girls on the show.” “You don’t take anyone’s shit and lay down like a doormat when someone pisses you off,” instructed a fan. The comment added: “I hope you are free of the show now and can do and say what you want!” Now that Jay Smith is out on bail and living it up with his girlfriend, Ashley hopes that he’ll be more respectful of this and future women. That said, she doesn’t want anyone livin in denial about Jay’s immediate future. She doesn’t yet know the date, but she fully expects that Jay will still be deported to Jamaica. Duane Chapman Spotted With New Mystery Woman: Who IS She?!

Dog The Bounty Hunter viewers know that Duane ‘Dog’ Chapman was his wife’s biggest fan. His devotion was always on display as he stood by Beth through her final months, and mourned her tragic passing . So fans were understandably stunned Saturday night, when photos surfaced of Duane out to dinner with a mystery woman just weeks after Beth’s death! According to a report from The Daily Mail , Duane was spotted with the woman at an Italian Restaurant in Los Angeles Saturday night. Eyewitnesses describe the woman as a brunette bombshell, with the kind of ample curves we know Duane appreciates. The couple appeared to be on some kind of date, with both Duane and the mystery woman wearing snazzy evening attire. Duane chose a black blazer over his blue button-up shirt. The gal, meanwhile, wore a form-fitting cocktail dress with black and white chevron pattern that perfectly showed off her assets. She complimented the dress with a pair of strappy silver heels. The two reportedly laughed while enjoying a meal together, and were later picked up by the same driver. The vehicle took the couple to a gas station, where the woman and the driver picked up some supplies while Duane waited in the car.  Finally, the car took the pair back to Duane’s hotel, reports  The Daily Mail . Of course, Duane has yet to comment about the evening himself. But even without confirmation from Dog, fans are going nuts about this apparently romantic outing. Reports left many fans speculating that Duane had his sights set on this new beauty. Could this be real? How could Duane have moved on so very, very quickly after Beth’s death? Not even a month ago, Duane was so distraught he could barely make it through the speech he prepared for Beth’s memorial service . The loss of his wife brought Duane so low that some fans were worried for him. “If there’s a god, He won’t let me live that long without her,” Duane said during the service. If this is the hot date that  The Daily Mail  describes, it would be a head-spinning, Wilt Chamberlain-level rebound for the bounty hunter. However, a follow-up report from  The Blast  is defusing much of the drama. According to their updated take on the story, the apparently intimate evening was in fact a work event. The Blast claims that the woman spotted with Duane is a crew member on  Dog’s Most Wanted , part of the hair department for the show. She has reportedly been a friend of Duane and Beth for years! Furthermore, they report that at least eight other members of the cast and crew were present. That’s quite a huge detail for  The Daily Mail to omit. Did Duane and this supposed crew member leave separately from the rest of the cast? And if so, why the privacy? We know the cast and crew of  Dog’s Most Wanted are around L.A. to promote the upcoming premier, which is set to air in September. So, it makes sense for the team to get dressed up and celebrate over a nice dinner. But, even knowing all this, would it be so crazy to think a few sparks are flying? Having a long, friendly history and a working relationship doesn’t rule out the possibility of a romance. In fact, it often brings people together, especially in the wake of a tragedy. Just saying.

Amber Portwood is in Danger of Losing Her Kid and is Making Jokes About Her Cleavage

In a new photo shared to her Instagram page, Amber Portwood is showing off her brand new digs. Along with her fairly prominent cleavage. We’re not trying to be crude or inappropriate here. We know the Teen Mom OG star is battling for custody of her son and we really shouldn’t be referencing her boobs or anything at the moment, but… … we’re just quoting Portwood herself. Over the weekend, Amber posted a photo of herself in bed, a giant smile plastered across her lips despite the many challenges in her personal life at the moment. (e.g. An arrest for felony domestic assault; the possible loss of her son to his father; the realistic chance she gets fired by MTV.) We’ve shared the snapshot above and the caption Portwood wrote alongside it below. This caption reads as follows: The joy of having a bed AGAIN!!!!! (excuse the cleavage) to go from a couch for over a month to these hotel beds literally feels like a blessing! I’m so ecstatic every time! Always sending love everyone. Such a message prompts two questions: Where had Amber been staying prior to this hotel move?t Why is she joking about her cleavage at a time such as this? We believe the answer to number-one is “her mother’s house.” And we can only say the following about the second inquiry posed right here: We have no idea. In another post shared Saturday, the 29-year-old wished her 1.8 million followers goodnight, writing: “Goodnight beautiful souls. I’m done with my nightly music routine and meditation so time for the makeup to come off!! Long day and finally tired but worth the time. “Still always sending love.” Amber did have a reason to finally be in good spirits last week. As first reported by Us Weekly, a judge decreed that she could spend more time with her young son , James, in the weeks and months ahead — but with a pretty huge catch: She still must be accompanied by a court-approved supervisor. Might this sanction be lifted the next time Portwood attends a court hearing? On August 22? It’s possible. But Andrew Glennon seems intent on pushing for primary custody of little James, concerned about the environment in which Portowod would raise the infant. Back on July 5, Portwood was arrested for allegedly throwing a shoe and Andrew and then allegedly taking a machete to the bathroom door in an attempt to get to her boyfriend and son. She was arrested in a different domestic battery charge in 2010 and ended up serving over a year in jail for a related probation violation. In this case, Andrew was so frightened by the way Portwood was acting that he told a 911 operator, via text message, that he thought she might kill him or their son or both. “I received a text message from somebody saying that their life and their son’s life is in danger,” this operator has said for the official legal record. In the month-plus since this incident, Amber has not commented directly on what  may or may not have transpired. But she’s hinted on multiple occasions that Glennon was cheating on her and even that Glennon often drove around drunk . It’s pretty clear that she’s trying to impugn Glennon’s character in an attempt to make herself look better and perhaps even justify her violent actions from last month. So far, however, it doesn’t appear as if this strategy is paying off. Most observers think Portwood needs professional help, if not another jail sentence, and most definitely should NOT be a Teen Mom cast member any longer. Do you agree? Kaitlynn Carter: Is She Really DATING Miley Cyrus?!

They may have been overshadowed by the suspicious death of Jeffrey Epstein, but Miley Cyrus and Kaitlynn Carter were easily the second biggest story on social media over the weekend. In case you somehow missed the drama, it all unfolded like this: Miley and Liam Hemsworth announced that they had separated after less than a year of marriage. Shortly thereafter, photos of Miley making out with Kaitlynn Carter began to make their way around social media. Kaitlynn recently broke up with Brody Jenner of The Hills /”being a Jenner” fame. We later learned that the pic of Carter and Cyrus locking lips was actually taken before Miley and Liam announced their split. It’s a lot to take in, but basically, the upshot of all this is that last week, Kaitlynn was a Z-list reality star who had recently parted ways with a D-list reality star, and now she’s one of the most googled people on the internet. It seems the millions who are currently searching Kaitlynn’s name mainly have two questions — who the hell is she? And is she actually dating Miley? We’ll do our best to answer them here and spare you any further confusion over Kait-gate. For starters, Carter is a 30-year-old fashion blogger, because of course she is. Kaitlynn kicked off her “digital diary” entitled Hey, Ms. Carter in 2014, but she hasn’t updated since July of this year, when she posted about designing her own wedding dress. Ending your half-assed business venture within weeks of marrying a wealthy pseudo-celeb is some of the most shameless clout-chasing we’ve ever seen, and we commend Kaitlynn for it. Unfortunately, she messed up in one crucial respect, as it seems that she and Brody were never legally married. That means Kait will never get a piece of that sweet Jenner fortune — but as a consolation prize, she did get a piece of Miley. Prior to this weekend, Carter’s biggest claim to fame was a few scenes on The Hills reboot. Now, the whole internet knows her name (or at least the portions of the internet who didn’t spend all weekend wondering how an inmate on suicide watch could possibly commit suicide without the guards knowing!). As for what the future holds for Kaitlynn and Miley, for now, at least, it looks like their hookup was nothing more than that. Both are fresh from very serious relationships, and we would be very surprised if anything serious developed there. Kris Jenner Tries to Mend Her Broken Family in KUWTK Sneak Peek

Keeping Up With The Kardashians continues to be a success, which is why Kris Jenner wants a huge raise for the whole family. From the looks of what's going down in this new sneak peek, every one of them is going to earn that massive salary. Kris has taken her family into the middle of nowhere so that they can address their issues. And her plan for that is absolutely insane. In this new sneak peek clip for  Keeping Up With The Kardashians , the family is in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Sadly, they're not there to take viewers on a tour of their lives as they hunt fellow humans for sport. (Can you imagine how good Kris would be at that, though?) They are all wearing very goofy cowboy getups, which leads Kris to remark that Kendall looks like Jessie from  Toy Story . She's absolutely right. “So, in case you’re wondering why I wanted to bring you all to Jackson Hole [Wyoming],” Kris acknowledges once the group is assembled. The momager expresses: “I think we just really needed some family bonding time.” “I feel like things are a little bit off,” Kris assesses. “And,” she adds. “We really need to press a reset button.” “And have a fresh start,” Kris suggests. “So that we all feel really good about where we are.” “Each one of us has maybe a small to medium sized issue with another,” Kris reveals. Family tensions can grow out of controll if they're not addressed. “And,” she expresses. “I really think we need to work on the things that are bothering us internally.” That is always good advice! You have to make nice or things will fester and get worse. Kris wants to focus on those issues “and working together as a family and a team.” This is when the music starts to get a little silly — both dramatic and inspirational. “I think what I want to do is family morale, team-building exercises,” Kris suggests. Ordinarily, that wiould sound like absolute hell on Earth. But with the Kardashians, it could be entertaining. She wants to engage in activities “where we can do things where we have to work together.” These are all efforts “to try to rebuild our bond.” “Because listen,” Kris says. “We’re ride or die right?” “This family will never be some group that falls apart in any way, shape, or form,” Kris affirms. She explains that this is “because we always have each other's backs.” “That being said, Kourtney,” Kris says. “We're going to take you back to your roots.” She explains: “And you're going to go on a cattle-drive.” Oh, boy. See, back before  Keeping Up With The Kardashians , Kourtney made her first foray into reality television. In 2005, the eldest of Kris' progeny appeared on E!'s  Cattle Drive , which ran from August through October of that year. That doesn't exactly make her an expert, but it probably means that she knows more about bovines than most of us. Referring to that as Kourtney's “roots” is … objectively pretty funny. What Kris has in mind sounds like a very entertaining mess — but will it be the family bonding activity that she hopes? The rest of us should be grateful that, as adults, we can just decline ridiculous demands for family team-building. The Kardashians are bound by contract to go along with Kris' schemes.

Nowadays not only are rappers doing their thing on the silver screen and on the tube, but they’re also getting in on the animation game. Just a few months after Vince Staples’ Adult Swim project Lazor Wulf was announced, the Migos’ Quavo  broke the news that he and Imagine Entertainment’s co-founder Brian Grazer are working together on an animation project inspired by Atlanta’s Hip-Hop scene. According to Complex the ATLien and Grazer are set to executive-produce a “transformative franchise” but unlike the mature content found in Staples’ Lazor Wulf , Quavo’s vision is being crafted to accommodate the children of the culture. “I have long seen how hip-hop as well as our music (Migos) really impacts kids,” Quavo said in a press release Thursday announcing the new animated franchise series aimed at kids ages 8-12. “I’ve loved animation my whole life whether on TV or in movies and I wanted my first jump into this premium content world to be a show just for kids. It will definitely reflect the creativity, love, and families in and around the NAWF side of Atlanta where we grew up.” The series will draw from the Atlanta hip-hop scene and marks a partnership between Imagine’s Marginal Mediaworks, Imagine Kids+Family, Quality Control Music, and Motown. Quality Control’s Pierre “Pee” Thomas and Kevin “Coach K” Lee will produce alongside Dan Altmann and Capitol Music Group’s Brian Nolan and Ryan Allingham. Sounds like Quavo and company are about to fill a space needed for the kids who don’t have many cartoons to choose from that they can relate to. Coach K said as much when sharing his thoughts on the upcoming project. “When I was growing up there was very little media that had brown and black skinned kids feeling heard or seen and the ones that did stood out and served as a crucial roadmap through our childhoods,” he said. “I’m about inclusive stories that address all kinds of situations that kids of ALL ethnic and financial backgrounds experience and to give them a common tool to learn and grow.” No word yet on when the series will premier but expect some original music and merchandise to accompany it’s release when the time comes.
