Alison Brie told MTV News at Sundance that ‘Community’ is still shooting despite the show remaining off of NBC’s schedule. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Alison Brie Photo: MTV News Greendale Community College’s doors might be closed at the moment, but that doesn’t mean class isn’t quietly in session inside. Late last year, NBC pulled the critically acclaimed but criminally under-watched “Community” from its schedule, with a return date yet to be announced. Some fans were so outraged by the network’s decision that they staged a flash mob outside of NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Center headquarters earlier this month, but to no avail — the show remains on the sidelines to this date. Still, progress is being made on the “Community” set itself, at least. Actress Alison Brie, who stars in the series as the beautiful but quirky Annie Edison, told MTV News that work on the NBC comedy is ongoing despite the show’s disappearance from the network’s schedule. “We’re still wrapping up ‘Community,’ our third season,” Brie told us at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, where she was appearing in support of her new film “Save the Date.” Asked about when the show might return, she claimed: “I don’t know! It’s in the air! It’s America’s biggest cliffhanger! I don’t know what’s going to happen, but we’re still shooting the third season, so hopefully it’s going to air in March or April.” Meanwhile, if “Community” fans are looking for more Brie in their lives, they don’t need to tune into NBC. Chances are high that the actress will reprise her role as Pete Campbell’s wife, Trudy, on the upcoming season of AMC’s “Mad Men,” returning to airwaves for the first time in over a year on March 25. “You may [see me in more ‘Mad Men’],” Brie assured us about her probable return to the Emmy-winning drama, now entering its fifth season. “You should definitely tune into ‘Mad Men’ this season, because I hear it’s going to be very good.” What do you make of NBC’s decision to pull “Community”? Plus, the Situation is hungover and the girls wear bunny suits in this week’s episode. By Jim Cantiello Mike “The Situation” on Thursday’s Episode of “Jersey Shore” Photo: MTV The Situation’s back and he got a Hugh Hefner-themed surprise party, what with the strippers and the wheelchairs. Here now, my five favorite moments from this week’s “Jersey Shore.” 5. Hungover Situation You can’t get any more DTF than a stripper, right? Wrong. Just ask the Situation , who brought home one of his party favors. “I don’t even remember her name. It might as well be A-nita because all night she was saying ‘I need a cigarette. I need French toast.’ Well I need you to get the hell out of my house!” I think Hungover Situation is my favorite Situation. On the other hand, dude, she’s a stripper who never actually took her clothes off. That’s like being mad at your anorexic friend for giving you a crappy restaurant recommendation. 4. Old Man With Vinny gone, Danny the T-shirt guy is looking to find a new employee/housemate and made J-Woww write up a “Help Wanted” sign after she tore down the first one. J-Woww says, “What should the sign say, because Danny’s being a douche …” “You should write, ‘See old man inside for details!’ ” the Situation laughs. The Situation – 1, Danny – 0. The Situation walks away, and J-Woww says under her breath, “But then people would think they should talk to you .” The Situation – 1, J-Woww – 1,000,000!! 3. Operation Rescue Vinny! What better way to help a guy with anxiety than to crowd him, shout loud things in his ear and bum-rush him in the comfort of his own home?! Um … get better Vinny! 2. Crack Is Wack! In all seriousness, Vinny was happy to jump in the car and return to Seaside with his roomies. Too bad they nearly died on the way back … [ They moon each other. Snooki sees “a ball.” They all scream. ] Don’t drink and drive. Don’t text and drive. Don’t try to blind people with your ugly-ass ass and drive. 1. Funny Bunnies Gotta hand it to MTV. Always looking to lure in new audiences for their programming. This week they dedicated a segment entirely to furries! Snooki and Deena hump each other in giant bunny costumes. Later, Snooki uses her new bunny costume for evil when she scares J-Woww. Amazing. Let’s just hope she doesn’t pull that on Vinny for a few days. As Harry Potter weathers his final Academy snub, Hobnobbing wonders if Katniss Everdeen can carry the genre’s mantle. By Amy Wilkinson Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate ” The Hunger Games ” star Jennifer Lawrence set aside her flaming bow and arrow in favor of a gilded envelope Tuesday morning to announce the 2012 Oscar nominations alongside Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak. And sadly — though not entirely surprisingly for young-adult-literature aficionados — the “Harry Potter” franchise was once again (and for the final time) overlooked for a Best Picture nomination . Which raises the question: Does the Academy have something against YA adaptations?* Curiously, adaptations have historically been strong performers at the Academy Awards. Past statuettes have gone to the literary likes of “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “Silence of the Lambs.” And this year’s contenders are no different. Six of the nine Best Picture nominees, including “The Descendants,” “Hugo,” “The Help,” “Moneyball,” “War Horse” and “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close,” can be found lining the shelves of your local Barnes & Noble, while five of last year’s 10 nominees were also based on bound works, according to USA Today. The side of the equation, then, troubling Academy voters seems to be the “young adult” variable. Though to be fair, there’s not much of a precedent for awards recognition seeing as mining teen lit for film fodder is a relatively new phenomenon. Sure, there are exceptions like S.E. Hinton’s “The Outsiders” (made into a film all the way back in 1983, starring Matt Dillon and Patrick Swayze), but for every “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” or “The Princess Diaries” there are tens (if not hundreds) of seminal works, like “The Catcher in the Rye” or “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” languishing in pre-production hell or undeserved obscurity as far as film financiers are concerned. Which leaves us with “The Hunger Games,” the latest YA sensation, which blazes into theaters in less than two months. And while it’s hard to predict the awards-season viability of a movie we haven’t even seen yet, there are at least a few indicators to suggest it could be the first YA novel adaptation to win (or at the very least be nominated for) Best Picture. For one, Oscar’s already made acquaintance with many members of the cast and crew. Our friends at NextMovie crunched the numbers, discovering that the actors and technical experts behind “The Hunger Games” boast 30 Oscar nominations — even Effie Trinket couldn’t turn her nose up at that. And while a film like “Twilight” (which, let’s be honest, won’t be sharing a feather-strewn canopy bed with the Academy anytime soon) focuses on a fantastical, star-crossed-lovers plotline, “The Hunger Games” deals more seriously with issues of life, death and government control, likely giving it more credence with voters. Though most of the above could surely have been said of “Harry Potter,” it apparently wasn’t meant to be. Hopefully with “The Hunger Games” (and the slew of approximately 4 million teen novels in various stages of adaptation ) the Academy will begin recognizing artful YA adaptations as the deserving films that they are. Because we already do. Do you think “The Hunger Games” is blazing a path for YA novel adaptations? Sound off in the comments below and tweet me @amymwilk with your thoughts and suggestions for future columns! *Whether, in fact, “Harry Potter” constitutes YA is a topic of much debate in and of itself, though for the sake of this piece, I assert that the final novel’s dark tone and subject matter secure its spot at the teen table. With just over two months to go until the release of The Hunger Games , Lionsgate has released the final poster for this sure-to-be blockbuster. It features Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and it’s just as awesome as all other promotional material so far: But while the excitement over The Hunger Games builds each day, and while its core audience may also be comprised of teenage girls, Josh Hutcherson recently spoke to E! News and stopped the comparisons to another franchise right then and there. “I’m not a huge fan of the comparisons to Twilight just because I think it’s a very different world,” the actor behind Peeta said. “I understand why people make the connection just because it’s a popular teen book… but the story is really more about Katniss and her survival. There’s definitely less romance.” Find out for yourself on March 23 when Suzanne Collins’ novel hits the big screen.

Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth exclusively talk survival skills, accents and most challenging scenes. By Kara Warner, with additional reporting by MTV UK Liam Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate As promised, we are back with more from our exclusive interviews with “Hunger Games” stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth — and all the questions were asked by you, the fans. Last week, Lawrence, Hutcherson and Hemsworth revealed a few of the pranks pulled on set, as well as a preview of what the arena will look like onscreen. This second installment features talk about which actor is most like his or her character, details about the reaping and talk of real-life survival skills. (Minor spoilers ahead for those who haven’t read Suzanne Collins’ brilliant books!) Be sure to check back here next week for part three of our interviews. @RealOrNotReal: Who among the cast is most like their “Hunger Games” character? Jennifer Lawrence : Josh. Josh is Peeta. He’s charming, he’s nice, he’s very real and down to earth, he’s not fake in any way. He just can charm anyone and anything. Josh Hutcherson : Oh, God, this is going to sound so stupid: Me, because I have literally never read a character, book or script or anything that has a character in it I connected with more than Peeta. I feel like so much of who I am is Peeta. It drove me crazy during the audition process, because I was like, “This is so me, it hurts. If I don’t get this, I’m not even good at being me, so now what am I? I have no idea what to do next.” @HGTribute_Manda: What was the most difficult scene to shoot? Liam Hemsworth : The reaping stuff that we shot was pretty hard. I remember turning up to set the first day and looking out at the few hundred extras there — it looked like a prison camp. It looked so rough and really did look how I think it would be, and it was hot. It was some of the hottest weather I’ve ever shot in. We had extras collapsing because it was so hot out there. That was probably the hardest stuff to shoot for sure. Lawrence : I don’t know if I have a most difficult scene. Really, the physical scenes, the running. Katniss doesn’t really stop running throughout the whole movie, so if I’m running up a mountain in a scene, that’s what we shot all day, so by the time we started acting and talking, it was like a vacation. @p1nklov3er: Is it hard to hide your accent? Hemsworth : It gets easier and easier. I work with accent coaches a lot and try to do my best to get the Australian out of there. Australians grow up with a lot of American TV; we watch the same movies you watch, so it’s not as alien for an Australian to do an American accent as it is for an American to do an Australian accent, because you guys don’t grow up hearing our accents. It’s in the back of your mind, but it’s practice, practice, practice. @eringabin: In a postapocalyptic world, what would your most valuable survival skill be? Hutcherson : I think I’d be pretty good at building a fort. I have a lot of experience with that when I was a kid. I built a lot of forts back in the day, so I think my expertise would be in the architecture and design of our shelter. @OttoRivera: Have you met Suzanne Collins? Hemsworth : I haven’t met her, but I’ve spoken to her on the phone a few times, and she’s really, really lovely. She’s obviously tremendously smart, and I love her books, so she’s been a big part of collaborating on the script. … I think everyone involved in the production wanted it to be true to the story, so she’s been involved a lot. @eringabin: Did you get any injuries during filming? Hutcherson : Not anything too crazy in the injury department. There were the classic bumps and bruises from running through the woods and forest, the big fight scene at the end with myself and Katniss and Cato on top of the Cornucopia, which itself lends itself to having more injuries than other times, but it was pretty good all in all, nothing too serious. In promotion of The Hunger Games , Liam Hemsworth will likely be on the road often over the next few months. But girlfriend Miley Cyrus has now ensured her man won’t be alone. For the actor’s 22nd birthday last week, Cyrus presented him with an adorable puppy named Ziggy, Tweeting a photo of the canine for all followers to see: Hemsworth apparently wanted to name the dog “Daisy Duke” at first, Miley wrote, but: “I said NOOO WAY! Shes an angel! she loves her bro & sis too!” As seen above, Liam and Miley were most recently spotted together at last week’s People’s Choice Awards. Neither won any hardware, both both looked very good.
