Catching Fire Blazes to November Box Office Record

The odds were very much in the favor of Catching Fire this weekend, as the well-reviewed Hunger Games sequel earned $161.1 million over the pre-Thanksgiving weekend. That’s a November box office record. The Jennifer Lawrence -anchored blockbuster beat the $152.5 million opening of its predecessor and out-earned the previous November champion, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, by about $20 million. Forget November, though. Only three films have EVER opened with better number than Catching Fire. They are:The Avengers ($207.4 million), Iron Man 3 ($174.1 million) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($169.2 million). If current estimates hold, Catching Fire will bring down The Dark Knight Rises as the largest 2-D opening of all-time. And it deserves it, folks. What a terrific movie. Liam Hemsworth: Single!

Liam Hemsworth is up for grabs, ladies. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire star admitted while promoting the movie that he is in fact single these days. Despite reports linking him to Mexican actress and singer Eiza Gonzalez, who he was seen kissing outside his home in September, he’s available. On the subject of cooking, and asked whether he bakes for his lady, Liam said, “I don’t have a lady at the moment, but I have baked for ladies in the past.” Hemsworth, 23, ended his engagement with Miley Cyrus , 20, this fall. It seems like a distant memory now, but amazingly, Miley and Liam Hemsworth were together for about four years and engaged for one of them. Despite all the drama surrounding their breakup, and her recent transformation of sorts, Liam notes that “I’m extremely happy for all of her success.” As for Miley Cyrus, she told Ellen last month that she’s happier than ever. “I think people spend more time actually thinking about it than I really do,” she said of the oft-publicized tension and split with her Australian fiance. “I believe when a chapter is done, you close it and start that new one.” “That’s kind of where I am right now. I felt like I have so much to be thankful for at this time that my energy hasn’t really been focused on that.” All’s well that ends well … unless you’re Eiza Gonzalez ?
