Eminem: Father of Rapper’s Adopted Daughter Sentenced to Prison

Even casual fans of Eminem’s music are familiar with the intense domestic drama that’s defined much of the rapper’s life. Following a tumultuous childhood characterized by neglect and abuse, Em — whose real name is Marshall Mathers — entered a famously unhealthy marriage with Kim Scott. Marshall and Kim weren’t married for long, but their relationship had an indelible impact on the hip hop legend’s life. Not only did the former couple have a daughter together, Mathers adopted Kim’s niece, Alaina, as well as her daughter Whitney from another relationship. As one of the wealthiest recording artists on the planet, Em was able to provide a better life for Kim’s niece and daughter. But he was not able to insulate them entirely from the challenges presented by their unstable families. According to a report published Friday by Radar Online, Whitney’s father, Eric Hartter, has been sentenced to several months in prison on drug charges. The decision was handed down while Hartter was already behind bars on unrelated charges. Back in December, the 40-year-old was arrested for allegedly stealing about $200 worth of Red Bull from a CVS store. While serving time for that crime, Hartter was arrested a second time for possession of felony contraband, including Fentanyl and methamphetamine. This week, the judge in Hartter’s case sentenced him to 153 days in jail. Hartter was credited for time served following his previous arrest, but he must still serve at least two months behind bars. While he has never been one of Whitney’s primary caretakers, insiders say Hartter has maintained a relationship with his daughter, who is said to be devastated by her father’s never-ending legal issues. No one with ties to Whitney or Eminem has commented publicly on the case. News of Hartter’s sentence comes just weeks after another tragic development in the Mathers family. Eminem’s father, Marshall Bruce Mathers passed away after suffering a massive heart attack last month. The younger Mathers was not on speaking terms of his father at the time of his death, It appears that Eminem is doing his best to reverse the trend of absentee father figures within his extended family. Sadly, it looks as though the process has often been a painful one. View Slideshow: Hailie Mathers: Lose Yourself in Eminem’s Daughter on Instagram!

Just weeks after becoming the first athlete to land a spot on Forbes’ list of the world’s richest self-made women, the Compton native now has her own Wheaties box; making her the second Black woman tennis player in history to be the face of the cereal brand, the Undefeated reported. Serena Williams is finally gracing the cover of Wheaties. https://t.co/jGC0LUiRlM pic.twitter.com/qTFb0SrhoG — The Undefeated (@TheUndefeated) June 28, 2019 Gracing the cover of a Wheaties box is a pinnacle for many athletes. The cereal brand—known as the “breakfast of champions”—has been featuring influential athletes on their boxes for 85 years. The leadership team at Wheaties believed that it would be fitting to feature Williams on the box because her impact transcends far beyond the tennis court. Williams has been a fierce advocate for social justice. Over the course of her career, she’s utilized her platform to spread awareness about gender equality and racial injustice. “Serena exemplifies all of the personal attributes that Wheaties looks for when choosing who its next champion will be,” Wheaties marketing manager Tiffani Daniels , said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “On the court she has been named the women’s most valuable player seven times, while off the court she uses her voice to inspire and spark change to make the world a better place.” Williams was humbled by the honor and took to Instagram to express her excitement. She says that being featured on the Wheaties box illustrates the importance of representation. “I have dreamt of this since I was a young woman,” she stated. “I hope my image on this iconic orange box will inspire the next generation of girls and athletes to dream big.” The decorated athlete—who has four Olympic medals and 14 Grand Slam doubles titles under her belt—joins a group of influential Black women athletes who have been featured on the box. Those who have graced the box include tennis player Althea Gibson , track and field star Jackie Joyner-Kersee , and gymnast Dominique Dawes . Williams is not only opening doors for women and girls who want to pursue careers in sports, she’s giving aspiring women entrepreneurs a seat at the venture capital table. In March she joined forces with the app Bumble to invest in women of color entrepreneurs.
