Rihanna, Katy Perry Express ‘Inner Crazy’ With Wild Hair

‘There are no rules,’ Perry’s hairstylist, Rita Hazan, tells MTV News of the pop divas’ latest looks. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: John Shearer/Getty Images This weekend, two of pop’s biggest trendsetters — Katy Perry and Rihanna — debuted some new looks. Rihanna, who had been rocking a shaggy blond style, showed off her new black hair. But it wasn’t just the color that was eye-catching: RiRi also shaved off the side of her hair, which she was wearing long and wavy. Perry, meanwhile, went super long. After sporting a cropped blue ‘do since January, the singer donned a long blue ponytail with purple highlights when she hit up the Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday. But Katy and Rihanna are hardly the only pop stars to rock crazy hair. Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha — who recently attached metal studs to her head — are all known for their wild hairstyles. So why are pop stars getting so kooky when it comes to their hair? Perry’s hairstylist, Rita Hazan , explained to MTV News: “Some of the ’80s is back, those vibrant colors and neon colors. I think girls are a little more relaxed into bringing their inner self out, their inner crazy. It’s not so structured, [like] you have to be pretty and fit into this mold. I love women embracing their inner crazy and making it work for them.” These days, Hazan said, “There are no rules and it doesn’t seem like it’s organized or styled,” adding, “Each person has their own individual personality and they rock [it] and it works for them. It’s nice to see women embracing themselves in that way.” What do you think of Katy’s and Rihanna’s latest looks? Let us know in the comments!

Whitney Houston’s Death Left Jordin Sparks In ‘Shock’

‘American Idol’ alum talks to Entertainment Weekly about working with the late legend on their upcoming movie ‘Sparkle.’ By Kara Warner Whitney Houston Photo: 20th Century Fox/Getty Images Many people will remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news of Whitney Houston’s untimely death in February. And while everyone’s experience was memorable in some way, the story of Houston’s “Sparkle” co-star Jordin Sparks hearing the news is especially poignant. The season-six “American Idol” winner was in a L.A. hotel room getting ready to meet Houston at the Beverly Hilton and attend Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy bash when her publicist knocked on her door. “She said, ‘Whitney’s gone,’ ” Sparks told Entertainment Weekly. “I said, ‘What do you mean? She’s not going to the party?’ She said, ‘No, she passed.’ It was like a movie when you see somebody and they’re just shocked and can’t move. I literally couldn’t say anything. I couldn’t feel anything. It was a complete shock. I was just holed up in my hotel room for a few days after that. “I didn’t know her for very long, but it was an intense two months: 12 hours every day spending time with somebody,” Sparks recalled. “It was amazing to walk into work and then Whitney is sitting in her chair blasting gospel music and singing. I’m thinking to myself, ‘People would give their right arm to just hear some of this. And it’s happening every day.’ She was really, really great.” “Sparkle” is a remake of the 1976 Irene Cara film about three talented young musicians who struggle with addiction. The new version features the 2007 “American Idol” winner as the titular character Sparkle and Houston, who also served as executive producer after acquiring the rights to the film more than a decade ago, as her mother, Emma. “It was definitely her baby,” Sparks said of Houston’s attachment to the project. “You could see the pride on her face when we wrapped. She was so excited that this was finally happening. Even before she passed I wanted to be able to represent this movie in a way that would honor her and respect her, because she worked so hard on it. With her passing, it’s definitely been a lot more pressure. We’ll see how it goes. I’m sure there will be interviews where it will hit me and I might get emotional, and there’s going to be other interviews where I reminisce about how happy and excited she was. I’m really proud of the film. I can’t wait for people to see it.” “Sparkle” is scheduled to be released by Sony on August 17. Madonna Slammed By Deadmau5 In Expletive-Filled Rant

Shortly after her appearance at Ultra Music Festival, Deadmau5 calls Madge a ‘f—ing idiot’ on his Facebook page. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna Photo: AFP/Getty Images Madonna surprised partygoers at Ultra Music Festival over the weekend when she took the stage to introduce EDM star Avicii. But one of dance music’s biggest stars didn’t meet her appearance with such excitement. Deadmau5 took to his Facebook after her cameo to criticize the singer (who just dropped her album MDNA this week) for a joke she made. It was Madonna asking “How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?” that left the producer a bit perturbed as Molly is a thinly veiled reference to the drug MDMA, which is also referenced in the title of Madge’s new album. “Very classy there madonna. ‘HUR DUR HAS ANYONE SEEN MOLLY???’ such a great message for the young music lovers at ultra. quite the f’n philanthropist. but hey, at least yer HIP AND TRENDY! F—ing cant smack my head hard enough right now,” he wrote on his site. “Seriously, i giveth not a f—ing single F— for slating on madonna for reaching an entirely NEW level of idiocy … i can appreciate her meteoric career, and all good deeds done, but WHAT THE F— WAS THAT? That’s your big contribution to EDM? Thats your big message to ultra attendees? Hipster speak for looking for drugs? F— off you f—ing IDIOT. F—.” Seemingly knowing that his expletive-filled Facebook rant about her appearance would spark debate, he added, “well if this doesnt start a f—in flame war, not sure what will. lol. “yeah, i really kinda leeeeeeeeroy jenkins’d that s— huh… MDNA / Molly / MDMA / whatever .. something about a track? still seems the same to me, coz its still, in my opinion, unnecessary promotion of the sh– that really held EDM down for years.” Deadmau5 received tons of feedback, some agreeing and others siding with Madonna. Hours later, the famed EDM producer wrote a much lengthier post on his Tumblr to clarify what he meant by his comments regarding Madonna’s “Molly” statement. “Im not perfect. i have my vices, and some of them are probably more harmful than a recreational drug or two… but i do know that i am at the very least morally obligated not to blatantly inflict or advocate anything that’s detrimental to society, others health, etc,” he explained in the post, titled “Responsibility.” “So, if you can be pandered with MDMA references, then at least pander your own ass with a good sense of responsibility which will enable you to make the personal choices that are right for YOU… then i wont have to feel like a f—ing moron on a stage because you paid money to listen to some warm humming sounds high as f—. Besides, one day ill get older, and i dont want a bunch of f—ing irresponsible f—heads on my lawn. RESPONSIBLE f—bags, much preferred… but will still be asked to [get] off my lawn for being a f—bag all the same.” Were Deadmau5′ comments out of line, or was Madonna’s joke inappropriate? Aaliyah Album In The Works, Producer Says

Jeffery ‘J. Dub’ Walker, who worked with late singer, tweets about her ‘upcoming album.’ By John Mitchell Aaliyah Photo: Dave Allocca/Getty Images Fans of Aaliyah may be in for a treat, if one of the last producers to work with the late R&B superstar is to be believed. Jeffery “J. Dub” Walker, who crafted “I Refuse” and “What If” for the singer’s final studio album, 2001’s Aaliyah, tweeted Monday that a posthumous album composed entirely of previously unreleased material is in the works. Walker’s tweet has since been taken down, but Soul Culture managed to take a screen grab before it was pulled. “Just got great news today; the smash unreleased song called ‘Steady Ground’ I produced on #Aaliyah is gonna be on her upcoming album,” Walker’s tweet read. Walker previously revealed to YouKnowIGotSoul.com that “Steady Ground” was intended to be included on Aaliyah but was left off due to technical problems with the recording. “It was really the first single after ‘Rock the Boat,’ but my engineer was mixing the record and somehow lost the vocals. So the vocals that you hear are really just the demo vocals,” Walker told the site. “The final vocals got erased, so yeah. So that’s why it didn’t make the album.” Aaliyah’s self-titled third album was released just a month before her tragic death in an August 25, 2001, plane crash in the Bahamas. She was heavily involved in her burgeoning acting career at the time of her passing, having just finished filming “Queen of the Damned,” so the amount of unreleased material available for a possible album remains unclear. A compilation album, I Care for You, was released in 2002. It featured some new material as well as many of Aaliyah’s biggest hits, including “Are You That Somebody,” “One in a Million” and “Try Again.” The singer had numerous film projects in the works at the time of her death. She’d already filmed a portion of her role in “The Matrix Reloaded” and was set for “The Matrix Revolutions”; she had to be replaced in the films by actress Nona Gaye. She was also set to play the title role in “Honey,” a part that ended up going to Jessica Alba. Finally, Aaliyah was attached to the remake of “Sparkle,” which was delayed after her death but filmed late last year with Jordin Sparks in the title role and Whitney Houston as her mother . The film will be released in August . According to Idolator , Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton, tweeted Tuesday (March 6) that “no official album [is] being released and supported by the Haughton family,” but he did not deny that her label and producers were working on the project. Christina Hendricks Nude Photos: Real or Fake?

Attention, horny men searching the Internet for photos of naked celebrities: today is your day! Maybe. Not long after photos of Olivia Munn nude supposedly surfaced online, self-snapped shots of Mad Men star Christina Hendricks have also popped up; although, like Munn, the actress denies the most revealing photo is actually of her. A rep for Hendricks acknowledges to TMZ that, yes, his client’s phone was hacked. And, yes, a few of the images floating around really are of the busty celebrity, namely the pics of Hendricks without makeup, seemingly at home, trying on different outfits. But this source says it is NOT Hendricks exposing her bare breasts in the one photo gaining the most notoriety this morning. He adds that the proper authorities have been notified and are looking into the hack. A website that cares less about being sued than we do has posted the pics in question. Check them out now and decide for yourself which are truly of Hendricks and which are phony. [Photo: WENN.com]

J.J. Abrams ‘Very Upset’ Over ‘Star Trek 2’ Leaked Photos

‘It’s such a bummer,’ Zoe Saldana tells MTV News about pictures showing her, Benedict Cumberbatch and Zachary Quinto on set. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Zoe Saldana Photo: MTV News Details have been scarce about the ongoing production of ” Star Trek 2 ,” but all that changed Friday when some juicy set pictures were leaked online. The two images show Zachary Quinto and then Zoe Saldana facing off against Benedict Cumberbatch , the new villain in the film. Though they weren’t particularly spoilers, the pics did give plenty of fodder for fans speculating about Cumberbatch’s role. Needless to say, notoriously secretive director J.J. Abrams was none too pleased about the leak. MTV News caught up with Saldana at the Independent Spirit Awards , where she talked about the director’s reaction. “J.J. was very upset,” she said. “I have to say that. It’s not going to stop people from intruding, but they are, and it’s such a bummer because it only hurts them by stealing away the surprise.” That’s the same sort of sentiment actors on the set of films like “The Avengers” and “The Dark Knight Rises” have echoed as the Internet-savvy fan culture becomes increasingly intrusive. Several questions were raised from the images, such as why Cumberbatch is wearing a variation of the Star Fleet uniform and why Quinto’s Vulcan death grip fails when he uses it on the “Sherlock” star’s character. There’s been a lot of excitement surrounding Cumberbatch’s inclusion in the cast, though little is known about his role. Saldana wouldn’t give away any details about his character, but she did say what she thinks he’s adding to the film: “Another yummy male actor in ‘Star Trek’ — that’s what he’s adding, and I’m enjoying it,” she said with a laugh. “Star Trek 2” also stars Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho and Alice Eve. It’s due in theaters May 17, 2013. Check out everything we’ve got on “Star Trek 2.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Oscars Acceptance Speeches: The Best And The Worst

MTV News looks back on the most moving speeches and those that left us cringing. By John Mitchell Jennifer Hudson at the 2007 Oscars Photo: Vince Bucci/Getty Images Delivering a good Oscar acceptance speech is not easy. If you over prepare, you seem arrogant, like you knew you were going to win all along, and if you aren’t ready for your name to be called, you’re almost certain to forget to thank your significant other or your film’s director. Some Oscar winners suffer from a serious case of the sniffles and leave audiences unsure what they even said, while others go off on tangents that have nothing to do with movies at all. In the end, though, it mostly just comes down to having that special something, that je ne sais quoi . And let’s face it, you’ve either got it or you don’t. Below are five stars we think nailed it when they were called onstage and five who, well, didn’t exactly charm viewers’ pants off on movies’ biggest night. Best Cuba Gooding Jr., Best Supporting Actor, “Jerry Maguire” (1998) Gooding’s acceptance speech is basically an exercise in pure joy. The actor leapt to the stage and earnestly thanked just about everyone he’s ever met, starting with his mother and God, and issued “I love you’s” to “Maguire” co-star Tom Cruise, director Cameron Crowe and pretty much everyone else who worked on the film. His genuine enthusiasm captured the crowd and earned him a standing ovation. Halle Berry, Best Actress, “Monsters Ball” (2002) History was made when Berry won the Best Actress statue — she was the first African American woman to claim the lead actress prize — and she honored the moment with an emotional speech that she dedicated to “every nameless, faceless woman of color who now has a chance after tonight because this door has been opened.” She thanked the actors and actresses of color who came before her and declared the moment “so much bigger” than herself. Her speech was an exercise in humility and surprise — two things most Oscar acceptance speeches could benefit from. Jennifer Hudson, Best Supporting Actress, “Dreamgirls” (2007) Hudson’s took home the Oscar for her very first film performance and delivered a simple acceptance speech that was probably most notable for how humble and truly surprised she seemed to hear her name called. Though she’d been a favorite throughout awards season that year, she seemed shocked when George Clooney announced that she’d won and stuttered and stumbled her way through her speech, but was sure to thank all those she needed to, from “Dreamgirls” director Bill Condon and her co-stars to her family, friends and Jennifer Holliday, who originated the role of Effie White on Broadway. Tom Hanks, Best Actor, “Philadelphia” (1994) Hank’s Oscar acceptance speech may well be the only one to have inspired a movie itself. His lengthy speech was marked by some traits we don’t always love — it certainly felt rehearsed — but the actor’s gratitude seemed genuine when he thanked his high school drama teacher, Rawley Farnsworth, as well as a former classmate, who he called “two of the finest gay Americans, two wonderful men.” There was only one problem: Farnsworth was still in the closet about his sexuality. The slip of the lip inspired the 1997 film “In & Out,” in which Kevin Kline plays a high school drama teacher outed when his former student (played by Matt Dillon) wins an Oscar. In a nice turn of events, the always lovely Joan Cusack earned an Oscar nomination herself playing Kline’s jilted fianc
