Jeremy Renner Calls Oscar Nomination ‘Fantastic’

‘I’m pretty overwhelmed,’ he said of his best supporting actor nod for ‘The Town.’ By Jocelyn Vena Jeremy Renner Photo: Bryce Vickmark/Getty Images The Ben Affleck-directed Boston crime flick “The Town” may have only received one Oscar nomination , but Jeremy Renner admits he’s pretty excited to be acknowledged for his supporting part in the film. The nod comes a year after Renner received an Academy Award nomination for his leading role in “The Hurt Locker.” “It’s pretty fantastic. I’m pretty overwhelmed,” he told the “Today” show hosts on Tuesday morning (January 25), when he called in from Vancouver, Canada, just moments after learning of his Academy Award nom . Renner added that the morning program’s crew was his good luck charm, since he also appeared on the show after last year’s Oscar nominees were revealed. When asked who he planned to bring to the ceremony this year, the actor explained that he didn’t want to mess with a winning formula and would be accompanied by his mother for a second straight year. “I don’t think I’m gonna change a thing,” he said. “If it’s not broken …” Renner admitted that he took in a lot of Boston to prepare for his role as James Coughlin in the gritty flick. “Whole lot of places,” he said of the bars he hung out in the city. “They helped me along for sure.” Competing against Renner for the Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role honor this year are Christian Bale for “The Fighter,” John Hawkes for “Winter’s Bone,” Mark Ruffalo for “The Kids Are All Right” and Geoffrey Rush for “The King’s Speech.” Renner lost out in the best actor category last year to to Jeff Bridges , who took home the prize for his role in “Crazy Heart.” However, “The Hurt Locker” did walk away with the best picture award. 25 Reasons We Love Blaxploitation Films

Was there a better decade for black films than the 1970’s, when the Blaxploitation era was in full effect? Though it was a controversial era for African-Americans, Blaxploitation cinema was a creatively rich period that broke down racial barriers for many black actors and filmmakers. Names like Richard Roundtree, Pam Grier, and Melvin Van Peebles became household names and showed an empowered side to African-American lives. Though the NAACP would strongly oppose the images depicted in many Blaxploitation films, if it wasn’t for them, the idea of a black superhero might not have ever existed. WHY WE LOVE THEM… 1. The films showed Hollywood the power of the Black dollar at the box office and paved the way for a generation of black filmmakers and films with all black casts. 2. Classic slang words and phrases like, “Mack”, “cold blooded”, and “solid”. 3. The Man was always white. 4. The best soundtracks. 5. “Across 110th Street” by Bobby Womack 6. “Super Fly” by Curtis Mayfield 7. Unapologetic use of white ethnic slurs like the word “honky” 8. Athletes turned actors, and good ones, e.g. Jim Brown, Fred Williamson, Bernie Casey 9. Gordon Parks, director of Shaft and the sequels, Shaft’s Big Score and Shaft In Africa 10. Films set in black cities like Oakland (Hit Man); Detroit (Detroit 9000); Houston (Sugar Hill) Head to HelloBeautiful.com for reasons 11-25

JWoww Nude Pictures: Blocked By Judge Again!

Sorry, Tom Lippolis . Your naked photos of Jersey Shore star JWoww will remain under lock and key, at least temporarily, after a judge’s ruling late yesterday. A New York judge ruled that JWoww’s (Jenni Farley’s) ex-boyfriend has no legal right to distribute the images he’s been threatening to sell for weeks now. This upholds a previous ruling temporarily blocking Lippolis’ moves. Her lawyer argued that the JWoww nude photos he has were taken sans consent as she was “under effects of pre-surgical and post-surgical anesthesia.” Lippolis has argued that it was her idea and that JWoww was “always a willing participant and always gave consent” to the series of naked images. He also claimed that releasing the photos wouldn’t harm JWoww’s reputation, since she had previously “expressed her desires to pose in Playboy.” But for now, the judge sided with JWoww, which means the pics must stay off the market for the time being. We know you guys are so pissed. The case is scheduled for arbitration (seriously), where a final decision on the pictures will be made. You can bet both sides are lawyering up.

By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” Photo: Jive Don’t hold it against her, but Britney Spears has a hit on her hands. Her new track, “Hold It Against Me,” which was released last week, topped the Billboard Digital Songs chart . The Dr.Luke/ Max Martin-produced song, the lead single from the singer’s yet-untitled March album, sold 411,000 downloads in its first week available for purchase. Other newcomers to the chart include Avril Lavigne’s “What the Hell” at #6 and Jay-Z and Kanye West’s collaboration, “H.A.M.,” at #10. Enrique Iglesias’ “Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You)” (#5), the Black Eyed Peas’ “The Time (Dirty Bit)” (#7), Lil Wayne’s “6 Foot 7 Foot” (#8) and Ke$ha’s “We R Who We R” (#9) round out the top 10. By Eric Ditzian Anne Hathaway Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images Last week, word out of Gotham City was that five actresses were competing for possibly two roles in “The Dark Knight Rises” : Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Kate Mara and Charlotte Riley. Now, one of those women officially has a job. Warner Bros. announced in a press release Wednesday (January 19) that Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle, a well-established character in DC Comics lore who is the alter-ego of Catwoman. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story,” director Christopher Nolan said in the press release. Hathaway’s turn on the character will come as only the latest take.
