If you couldn’t get a room at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Vegas for their swanky New Year’s Eve grand opening featuring Jay-Z , blame that man right there. Jay-Z is taking up a whopping 50 rooms for the lavish opening of the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The star, who’s performing at the event along with Coldplay on New Year’s Eve, has “requested the rooms for his entourage and for his personal security,” a source told us. As a result, hotel managers have had to rearrange accommodations for other important guests. Celebs expected at the bash, produced by celebrity event designer Colin Cowie, include Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Wahlberg, Kristin Davis, Ellen Pompeo, Kellan Lutz, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Olivia Munn, Emmy Rossum, Jessica Szohr, Mark Salling and Selita Ebanks. Jay’s rep wouldn’t comment, but a hotel rep said, “We are looking forward to welcoming Jay-Z to the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and as is our policy, we don’t disclose details regarding a guest’s accommodations or other arrangements while at the resort.” Fifty rooms for “entourage and personal security”? By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jack Black in “Gulliver’s Travels” Photo: 20th Century Fox In discussing the important subject matter involved in “Gulliver’s Travels” — the film (coming to theaters Saturday) based on the classic Jonathan Swift tale, and starring Jack Black, Jason Segel and Emily Blunt — MTV News thought it prudent to ask the cast members a hard-hitting, yet totally appropriate question: Would you rather be 2 feet taller or 2 feet shorter? Black, who plays the titular curious explorer (in this case, a curious travel writer), had to think long and hard about it. “Wait a minute, 7′ 7″ or 3′ 7″? That’s an amazing question,” he replied. “Hmm … I’m going to go short. I’m going to go 3′ 7″,” he decided. “Because some of the greats are shorties. There are some great tall-y tall-ies, but I think the life expectancy is longer for the shorties,” Black philosophized. “I think those super tall-ies are breakable.” Blunt decided to take a different track. “Two feet taller, not 2 feet shorter,” she responded. “I wouldn’t like to be that small.” The “Devil Wears Prada” star went on to say that she would prefer the power that comes with being taller. “They would stare at me if I was small as well,” Blunt said. “At least if I was tall, I could crush people if they stare at me.” Segel, who is already 6′ 4″, unsurprisingly selected the same option as Black. “So, I’m either 8′ 4″ or I’m 4′ 4″?” he said. “I guess I’ll go with 4′ 4″ because there are people of that height, they’re managing, and there’s things that are made for them,” he reasoned. “8’4″ is rough. And everybody — well, I guess they’re staring at you either way — [but] they might not see you if you’re 4’4″,” he added. “They’re definitely going to see you if you’re 8’4″. At the live Survivor: Nicaragua finale reunion show on Sunday, three-time alum Rob Mariano had his own reveal for the audience – the expansion of his own tribe. Carina Rose Mariano was born to Rob and fellow Survivor legend Amber Mariano on December 10, joining sister Lucia Rose, 17 months, in a girl-power alliance. “I’m definitely outnumbered now!” says “Boston” Rob with a laugh. Rob, Amber and their little girls are allied for life . “It’s exciting and fun. I always thought I would have boys, but as a father, when your kids are healthy and happy, that’s the important thing.” Indeed. Amber’s delivery , which came two weeks late, sounds as daunting as any Survivor challenge. Congratulations to the happy couple.

Dozens of Russian children are neglected and abused by foreign adoptive parents every year. Child Rights Ombudsman Ravel Astakhov says the new agreement will mean guarantees of protection for Russian kids. “We will have a very effective legal instrument to control the situation with our adopted children in their new families in the US,” Astakhov said. “When an adopted child goes to the US and becomes a US citizen, this child is continuing to be a Russian citizen until he or she is 18 years old. And we have a right to support that child like a Russian citizen. We have a right to observe the situation with that adopted child in the new family.” Astakhov added that the final document must now be sent to the federal authorities. “And after that we are ready to sign that agreement,” he said. Another important factor in the pact is that decisions by Russian courts will start being recognized in the US. “Under this new agreement it would not be necessary to have another court decision, from a US court,” Astakhov said. He also said that Russia is initiating new law amendments to protect children from crimes committed against them in Russia itself and the Russian parliament is also considering a law to protect children from dangers online. To celebrate, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is looking back at the past few decades to see how things have changed and what kind of impact this important piece of legislation had on air quality in the U.S. (and around the world, since there’s only one atmosphere, and many other countries follow U.S. regulations pretty closely). Days before vampire frenzy spread on Wednesday (June 30) with the opening of “Eclipse,” MTV News traveled to Hartford, Connecticut, to catch the teen singer’s My World Tour kickoff , where we asked fans there to weigh in on the epic battle of Bieber vs. “Twilight.” One of the two pop-culture phenomena had to come out a winner, and Justin Bieber’s fans made their case, with the pop star coming out the clear winner. “He is amazing,” Britney told MTV News, arguing that Bieber’s famous head of hair is so much better than Pattinson’s equally famous coif. “It’s just gorgeous.” In addition to having that sugary-sweet voice, the girls had other important reasons for loving Bieber over the “Twilight Saga,” one of them being 24-year-old Pattinson’s age. “[Justin’s] amazing! He’s just amazing. Yes [he wins]. He’s more our age and Robert Pattinson is just older, so obviously, Justin Bieber,” Amanda said. Her pal, Nicky, agreed saying, “He’s our age.” Another fan, Rihanna, said, “He sings better. He’s a lot cuter … and he’s our age.” Apart from the age factor, the girls decided that Bieber wins hands-down because of his pop star status. “He’s the one that I worship,” Christina gushed. “His music is amazing — it would save the world.” Micaela added, “He’s freakin’ amazing! Taylor Lautner does not sing, neither does Edward, and they’re not even that hot as Justin Bieber.” Oh yeah, did they mention he’s hot? Or, as Lexi put it: “He’s really hot!” Ashley said it was “because he’s a singer.
