The sea devours a disputed island – Bangladesh and climate change

The world is changing. Our atmosphere changes and our climate, as a result, does too. But also now, topographically, oru changing climate is beginning to alter our world. For the last few years island nations like the Maldvies have tried to raise awareness of the threat they face because of rising sea levels. And today, user WakeUpPeople clipped this story about global warming and geopolitics: Island disputed by India and Bangladesh has now been claimed by the sea. Map from FP Passport New Moore Island (or South Talpatti), has been disputed for over three decades. Now it's simply no longer there. It's only part of the incredible loss of land seen in the Bay of Bengal over the last few years. Vanguard's Adam Yamaguchi was in Bangladesh three years ago to see how the ocean was literally eating away the country year by year. added by: afitzgerald

New Moore Island Gone at Bay of Bengal

The countries Bangladesh and India have been fighting for thirty years over the ownership New Moore Island which lies at the heart of the Bay of Bengal. This very long debate was ceased by New Moore Island being swallowed by the Bay of Bengal due to the alarming rate of rising water levels due to Global Warming. According to the latest news, no more New Moore Island exists and it is now at the heart of the Bay of Bengal deep under it. In a report, Professor Hazra said that the New Moore Island has entirely sunk which was confirmed by sea patrons and satellite images from the sea. She also said that, “What these two countries could not achieve from years of talking has been resolved by global warming.” Global Warming has really taken its toll as the sea levels at the Bay of Bengal have been increasing for about 3 millimeters annually until 2000 and a very alarming 5 millimeters per year from then on to present. According to reports, not only the New Moore Island or South Talpatti Island banished but also around ten smaller islands surrounding it are in danger of being swallowed by the waters of the Bay of Bengal. Ed Hardy Bags Lindsay Lohan

Ed Hardy totally bagged Lindsay Lohan. In a manner of speaking, of course. A source reveals to E! that Linds is in talks with the L.A.-based clothing company, which really must be low on options, to launch a new line of handbags. The line will feature bags named Jon Gosselin and The Situation. Kidding. “Lindsay and the designersat Ed Hardy have mutual friends, and they knew she was interested in looking for a handbag license and partner,” a source says. “They thought she’d be a good fit and so did she.” BAG LADY : Ed Hardy wants Linndsay to be. [Photo: PacificCoastNewsOnline.com] So far, it sounds like the collaboration is going smoothly. “As of last week, there are three collections in development and numerous more are expected,” a source says. “Lindsay is very directly involved with the project.” This isn’t Lohan’s first involvement in fashion. She was axed this month by Emanuel Ungaro after serving as its artistic director for just one poorly received collection. No word yet on when the Lindsay Lohan-Ed Hardy collaboration will be released. Just don’t expect any joint ventures with E*Trade … or the entire nation of India .

India to Lindsay Lohan: GTF Out!

We can totally see an exclusive nightclub or fashion show simply not wanting to deal with the train wreck that is Lindsay Lohan and denying her admittance. The world’s largest democracy blacklisting her, however? Britain’s Telegraph reports that government officials in India are mulling whether to ban Lohan permanently from the nation following her December visit. Too bad she has U.S. citizenship and we can’t follow suit. Filming a BBC documentary about child labor and human trafficking, Lohan claimed she saved 40 kids’ lives in a single day during a raid on a sweatshop. The good news: Those kids were in fact rescued. The bad news? Not by Lindsay. The alleged actress and milkaholic apparently played no actual role in it. Lindsay did go to India. After that, the facts are as blurry as this pic . “Over 40 children saved so far … All within one day’s work … This is what life is about … Doing THIS is a life worth living!!!” Lindsay bragged on Twitter. Activists were offended by her boast, and pointed out that the actress arrived in India after the raids in question, and played no part in rescuing the kids. This led officials to discover she violated India’s visa rules: Lohan failed to apply for a work visa for the trip, and illegally filmed a documentary as a tourist. The Telegraph writes that civil servants in New Delhi are now investigating the case to determine whether Lohan will be added to an immigration blacklist. So basically, she used the trip to highlight the superficiality of celebrity life, while trying to superficially score points for going, as she didn’t do anything. Way to go, Linds. Just stick to posing like Jesus next time.

Lindsay Lohan: Maybe Banned From India

According to the British newspaper “The Telegraph”, actress Lindsay Lohan could possibly be banned from India. Last December, the actress tried to divert herself from Hollywood spitefulness by working on a BBC documentary on child labor. However, when she was tweeted about her participation in a raid where they rescued children from a sweatshop, this drama had overshadowed her trip. She wrote that as of now, there were 40 children saved within a day’s work. Doing this act is a life worth living. The conflict was that Lohan was not fair to India during the raid. The actress was caught up in much bigger trouble, as her false accusations evoked her profile to authorities of India. They discovered that Lohan had come into the country on a tourist visa instead of a work visa for this documentary, and thus this is considered as illegal. Bhuwan Ribhu, an activist with the Indian organization Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save Childhood Campaign), said that the actress visited one of their rehabilitation facilities during the course of filming. She also spoke with children at one of the group’s Delhi facilities. Ribhu explained that their group had no idea about her visa status because they were working with the BBC and not particularly with the actress. Actress Lindsay Lohan may not be able to re-enter India. Authorities are now studying her case and will rule on the matter, according to the British newspaper “The Telegraph” Lindsay Lohan: Maybe Banned From India is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Katy Stops Russell From Rock ‘N’ Roll Wedding

Singer Katy Perry has reportedly stopped her fiance Russell Brand from turning their wedding theme to rock ‘n’ roll. Perry, 24, got engaged over the New Year when Brand, 35, proposed to her in India. Brand was reportedly keen on also getting married in India, but Perry has said she wants to get wed near their LA home. Brand then said they should marry in the studios of the Sunset Marquis hotel but she wasn’t keen according to source speaking to the Daily Mirror . “Russell has been visiting the hotel for years and it is steeped in rock ‘n’ roll history. It’s in the middle of West Hollywood, but it has beautiful gardens and you feel like you are in some kind of tranquil paradise. Katy was keen, but when they suggested they could have their blessing in one of the recording studios, she put her foot down.” The singer’s ‘ultra-religious’ parents would reportedly be upset if their daughter didn’t marry in a church.

River of Sh*t: Adam’s Vanguard Update

I'm currently working on a story for the next season of Vanguard about toilets, or the lack thereof, in much of the world. Our journey starts here in India, which has the largest toiletless population. We went on a river ride, which was the most disgusting smell ever. I threw up, and was sick for about 24 hours. Vanguard is Current TV's original documentary series. Led by correspondents Mariana van Zeller, Christof Putzel, Adam Yamaguchi and Kaj Larsen, Vanguard features enterprising reports from around the globe. It airs every Wednesday at 10pm on Current TV. Circle of Death

Here's an intense video taken from the Diamond Maruti Car Circus in India of a motorcycle act called the Wall of Death. This would have made great B-roll for an Offspring video in the '90s. A World Without Toilets: Vanguard Update from India

I’m currently working on a story about toilets, or the lack thereof, in much of the world. Our journey starts here in India, which has the largest toiletless population on the planet. It was another eye-opening day here. We spent the day inside one of Delhi’s 1,500 or so “clusters,” or slums. While the toiletless population expands far beyond slum dwellers, it’s in here where the problem is at its worst. In this particular slum, there’s one toilet block for 5000 people — many of whom cannot afford the 1 rupee-per-use cost. One of the slum’s organizers introduced us to many of the residents here, who spoke to us about the many problems afflicting the population here — lack of toilets — lack of any sort of sanitation. People here are living within feet of open sewers — literally a shit-filled toilet within feet of where they eat and sleep each night. As we continued on, the picture just got worse and worse. More to come in our doc. (See more photos from my tour of the toilet museum here and from the Holi celebration here.) Follow me on Twitter, or the full Vanguard team, to get updates from the field as we shoot. added by: Adam_Yamaguchi
