Seasonal Insider Secrets: Tips From Rachel Roy Herself

Link:

Fashion designer Rachel Roy has been keeping up with the changing seasons as she releases her newest clothing line. She encourages traveling in the summer by making her new line especially comfortable for fun summer adventures. Take a look at Rachel Roy’s 2011 Summer Lookbook to see real girls going on summer journeys while rocking her new line! Along with amazing clothing ideas, Rachel Roy gives us her two cents when it comes to traveling in the hot summer and staying fresh and fabulous! What makeup do you carry with you for a weekend getaway? I always carry Burberry Lip Cover NO.04 in Rosewood and Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick compact- I use it as blush! It gives a bronzy glow before the sun gives me the real deal. I also always have with me Estée Lauder TurboLash mascara. How do you keep your make-up in tact during a day on the beach? I don’t wear any! On the beach I stick with strawberry Lip Smacker by Bonne Bell in extra large and Jo Malone Red Roses Cologne. It not only serves as a perfume but also as a spritzer to hydrate myself. Lastly, Clarins spray-in SPF 50 for sun protection- so important! How do you style your hair for a day on the beach? I usually wear my hair down with little maintenance or pull it back in a pony. One of my fave summer products is KeSARI Indian Oil Hair Serum- I’m obsessed! It combines natural botanical extracts from India with state-of-the-art technology and makes your hair so shiny and reduces frizz (an essential with beach air!) To me, the perfect beach look is tousled, easy, loose waves- similar to the look that Gisele Bundchen has perfected! Do you change your makeup and fashion routine in the summertime? Yes! During the summer I definitely channel my bohemian chic favorites – for example Raquel Welch, Bianca Jagger and Miss Trinidad, all circa the 1970’s. In terms of summer fashions, I love high-waisted denim, men’s style blouses out of sheer cotton and long maxi skirts and dresses. What do you always make sure to pack when you travel somewhere warm? My must-haves when traveling somewhere warm are my Indian thong sandals, vintage 501 men’s Levi’s, a perfectly worn in brown leather belt, white tank tops, Theodora and Callum boutique print wraps and sarongs, gold door knockers and always my gold Manon body chain. What are your three summer essentials? 1. My iPod- such a must for a day on the beach. See my summer playlist- it’s on RachelRoy.com now! 2. Tunics- they are not only easy to wear in the summer time- but also serve as a great beach cover up. There are some in my Rachel Roy pre-fall collection that I am living in. 3. Lotion- I mix Jo Malone rose scented lotion with Chanel NO. 5 lotion as my summer perfume – after a tan it’s really all you need! What do you think of her new line? Unbeweaveable! Thieves Target Hair Salons For Pricey Weaves

Theft of human hair extensions and wigs is apparently on the rise. Some robberies have ended in death, while others have perplexed cops completely: it seems thieves would rather walk out with hair than cash. According to the New York Times , once stolen, the hair is typically sold on the street or on the Internet, including eBay, shop owners and the police say. In recent weeks, packages of hair that may have sold for $80 or $100 retail have sold for as little as $25 out of car trunks in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Houston, the authorities said. The most expensive hair type — and the one in highest demand by thieves and paying customers alike — is remy hair, which unlike most other varieties is sold with its outermost cuticle layer intact. This allows it to look more natural and to last longer without tangling. Remy hair from Indian women is the most popular. (Remy hair extensions can cost as much as $200 per package and the average person requires at least two packages.) Two years ago, at the Beauty One hair supply store in Chicago, thieves went after the store’s cash. But last month, they bypassed the register altogether and took just the hair, which was valued at $90,000. What do you ladies think of this? WBW Honors: Madame C.J. Walker WTF! Making It Rain On Them Hoes: Cassie, Solange And Selita Ebanks Named Carol’s Daughter Spokesmodels

Some folks might call this nepotism. Diddy’s concubine Cassie, Kanye’s concubine Selita Ebanks and Jay-Z’s sister-in-law Solange Knowles have all been named as spokesmodels for Carol’s Daughter. The ladies are the subject of a recent WWD feature, which is excerpted below: Carol’s Daughter aims to showcase the customers who can’t be neatly slotted into one category or another. Take, for instance, Cassie, who is of black and Filipina descent, or Ebanks, who has Jamaican, Irish, Indian and African heritage and grew up in the Cayman Islands. Knowles is of African-American and French Creole descent. “They will serve as cultural ambassadors in bringing forth this acceptance that the definition of beauty is now colorless,” said Steve Stoute. “There are no longer boxes of white, black, Latina, Asian. More and more women are checking the other box.” According to Stoute, the trio was chosen because aside from their beauty “they share the vision and embody the messaging in their attitude, appearance, projects and core values.” “Carol’s Daughter doesn’t have just one direct demographic,” said Ebanks. “Solange’s hair is a different texture than mine; so is Cassie’s. Our skin and body types are different. Today, people are blended, and I think the three of us are a prime example. Women in my family range from vanilla to the deepest chocolate.” While the brand will continue to use longtime spokespeople and investors Jada Pinkett Smith and Mary J. Blige, as well as [founder] Lisa Price, in brand visuals, the three new spokeswomen speak to the “millennial generation, which is basically a colorless society,” said Stoute. So basically whether you rock a natural, a half shaved dome or a weave Carol’s daughter has all their bases covered… Congratulations concubines ladies! Source

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Bollywood Remix Is ‘Magical,’ Producers Say

Composers Salim-Sulaiman says Gaga had a ‘very positive response’ to their version. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Shortly after dropping a country-fried version of “Born This Way,” Indian composers Salim-Sulaiman were approached to do a Bollywood version of the song , breathing new life into the chart-topping track and putting their own Desi seal on it. “It was kind of difficult to start with,” Sulaiman Merchant told MTV News, crediting entertainment website Desi Hits! for helping to curate the collaboration. “It’s been such a big track, it’s been very popular, and when you consider the style, it’s very aggressive. It’s got all the stuff that’s required to make it a nice clubby track, so for us, the most important thing was: How do you get it into a zone where it’s palpable to the Indian flavor? And the first thing we did was bring in a sitar, and that changed the flavor a little bit. We kept the aggression but changed the style and made it a little more four on the floor, a little more house.” Salim Merchant added that “we wanted to bring in an Indian sound … and give a Sufi touch as well.” He explained that after getting over some initial nerves, “It’s fantastic how it all turned out. There was this little pressure because the song was #1. I guess once we put that baggage behind … it was magical. Once we started it, everything came into place. It became a celebration.” While Gaga is a global superstar, Sulaiman said she has yet to really permeate India’s pop culture. “Lady Gaga hasn’t been as popular as we would like it to be over here, so this track wasn’t as big before,” he said. “We finished the mix, and now it’s getting into the zone where it’s gaining popularity. It’s a great way to get eyeballs and ears onto Lady Gaga.” Has Gaga given the guys any indication of how she feels about the track? “She has liked it,” Salim said. “She did mention she really loves it. When we did send her the final version, we did get a big very, very positive response. She really loved it. That’s what she mentioned. I’m really happy. Finally the artist is Gaga about the song.” What do you think of the Bollywood version of “Born This Way”? Let us know in the comments! ‘Snow White’ Director Tarsem Singh Talks Costumes, Lily Collins

‘Everything’s in snow, but the costumes are very colorful,’ he tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Lily Collins Photo: John Shearer/ WireImage Two cinematic reimaginings of Snow White are currently in the works, but lest you think both are going to turn out more or less the same, simply listen to how director Tarsem Singh conceives of his film’s look . “It’s actually like if you looked at Gaudi’s architecture, based in England, done like a turn-of-the-century Russian film by an Indian guy,” he told MTV News. Right. We’re guessing that the competing Snow White tale — from Rupert Sanders, making his directorial debut after a string of hyper-stylized TV commercials — isn’t going to encroach on Tarsem’s territory, and that’s just the way he wants it. “There’s a brown guy telling you a Snow White tale to white people. Just by definition, when you put different ingredients, you get a different stew,” he said. His yet-untitled film stars Julia Roberts as the evil queen, Armie Hammer (“The Social Network”) as the handsome prince and, after being cast earlier this month, Lily Collins (“The Blind Side”) as Snow White herself. Why Collins, a relative unknown whose profile is on the rise after being cast in the adaptation of the “Mortal Instruments” young adult book series? “Her eyebrows,” Tarsem joked. “I just saw her eyebrows and I said, ‘That’s Snow White.’ ” With the key players in place, the filmmakers are busy building sets and designing costumes. True to Tarsem’s earlier work, like “The Cell” and the forthcoming “Immortals,” the new Snow White film will dress its cast in some eye-popping garb. “Everything’s in snow, but the costumes are very colorful. It’s like no color, then a lot of color,” Tarsem said. “I never know how actors give you all the trust, because the stuff that I make people wear does not look ridiculous — it looks ridiculous. ” Check out everything we’ve got on “Snow White.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
