‘Dragon Tattoo’ Star Rooney Mara As Lisbeth Salander: More Sexy Photos!

W magazine publishes a series of revealing images. By Eric Ditzian Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander in W Magazine Photo: Jean-Baptiste Mondino If you thought the first official looks at Rooney Mara as the title character in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” were a touch provocative — she posed with a bared chest and bloody hands in one, her buttocks exposed in another — you haven’t seen anything yet. W magazine has published a new series of photos of Mara as Lisbeth Salander, capturing the 25-year-old actress in an array of revealing poses. In one pic, Mara stands topless on a snowy Stockholm street, clutching her breasts and looking utterly dazed, unaware of her surroundings. Another shows the actress rocking a tiny T-shirt and tinier tutu, the expanse of her belly exposed and the makings of biceps clear in her upturned arms. This is Mara unlike we’ve seen her before; a pre-makeover image of the actress included in the photo series underscores her comprehensive transformation. Director David Fincher may have seen something in Mara when they worked together on “The Social Network,” but her Salander bares preciously zero resemblance to the ponytailed college student she played in Fincher’s current Oscar darling. Other new photos include Mara in ripped tights straddling a motorcycle (she reportedly has learned how to ride for the role); lighting a cigarette and staring into the camera as if to say, “What the f— are you looking at?”; and rocking a mohawk and looking much more vulnerable than in the tough-gal poses. Said Fincher of his conception of the character, often said to resemble a modern-day Pippi Longstocking, “Lisbeth is the goth Pippi.” Are you excited to see Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander? MTV News’ Best Albums Of 2010: The Readers React

MTV.com users sound off with their opinions on the list and their picks for the year’s top releases. By James Montgomery Some of James’ picks for the best albums of 2010 Photo: MTV News On Wednesday, when MTV News published my annual Best Albums of the Year list, I wrote that “2010 may very well have been the best year for music in a long, long time … to the point where making a list of the 20 best [albums] was darn near impossible.” I wasn’t kidding, either. In fact, I was so sure I had missed some really great albums that I asked my readers to sound off with their picks. And, boy, did they ever! Over the past 24 hours, I’ve gotten tons of responses from fans all across the world (most of them angry, of course), each wondering why their favorite artist didn’t make the cut or, if they did, why they weren’t #1. There were thinly veiled threats, at least one call for me to be fired, a whole lot of curse words and even some rather spirited debate between Eminem and Kanye fans over just whose album was better. Of course, mixed in with all that madness, MTV.com readers also managed to suggest some very worthy albums that I had missed, make compelling arguments and even paying me a compliment or two. So I’d like to think that my list was a success … because, at the very least, the response it garnered proved that, unlike any other year in recent memory, 2010 really was bursting with great music — music people obviously felt very strongly about. Needless to say, I was impressed. So in order to keep the conversation going, I’m re-publishing some of the best responses here. But don’t think the debate is over … if you still feel like your voice hasn’t been heard, sound off in the comments below. And then head over to our Newsroom blog, where you can vote for your favorite album of 2010 . Because, really, I could argue about this stuff all day. On to the comments! “Props to MTV for putting Kanye at number 1 and for putting Rick Ross on the list. Teflon Don was incredible and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was classic.” — Lila “This list fails. Recovery is a better hip hop album than My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Sure, Kanye’s got the better beats, but Eminem has the better lyrics, flow and overall delivery than Kanye. That’s what hip hop is really about, sure you need good production, but lyricism is more impressive.” — Ryan “This list is perfect. Eminem’s album wasn’t that good and mainstream people need to stop believing that sales equates to quality. Kanye West put out the best album this year, hands down. MTV isn’t the only one putting it at the top of the charts and if you didn’t buy it, that only reflects your own ignorance and lack of taste.” — Moze’s Mother “Great list, I’m surprised that is made by MTV. I do not understand why people think that if an album sold more must be better than others, music is not about sales or popularity, it is about quality.” — Juan17x “I just want to say that MTV did a great job with this Top 20. And it’s great the indie groups like The National, Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend, Beach House etc were recognized. Music these days [is] infused with synths, autotunes, and other forms of manipulation. Sometimes it’s nice to just listen to the bare-bone basics of guitars, drums, vocals, and the occasional piano or other instrument. And Sufjan Stevens is great too! It was interesting to see Linkin Park’s album up there, but it might really be like Radiohead’s Kid A. Perhaps by listening to the tracks more often then it would be more easy to understand.” — A.Pearl “I haven’t heard of 70 percent of these clowns … No Rihanna? No Drake? No Diddy or Nicki Minaj? Surely James Montgomery must be living under some kind of rock … a huge one. Eminem at 14? (way too low). [The] only thing I can live with is Kanye at number 1. But it’s not worth ignoring these other artists!” — Tom “I’m happy that Kanye’s number 1 (the album’s super dope), but what about Cee Lo’s The Lady Killer, Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans and Kid Cudi’s Man on the Moon 2: The Legend of Mr. Rager? ” — Mendy “Yeah! Vampire Weekend is in the top 5! YES! Grrreat, Contra is totally amazing. Amazing job you guys!” — Diana “ROBYN SHOULD BE NUMBER ONE!” — Antoine “I cant believe Drake isn’t on this list.” — Kanye is the Best “[Deftones’] Diamond Eyes is definitely missing.” — Lumen “You forgot perhaps one of the biggest: 30 Seconds to Mars’ This Is War. … The single ‘Kings and Queens’ won [the] VMA [for] Best Rock Video as well as [the] EMA [for] Best Rock. Singles ‘Closer to the Edge,’ ‘This Is War,’ ‘Hurricane’ and ‘Kings and Queens’ have been in Billboard ‘s Top 10 Alternative and Rock categories as well as iTunes all over the world.” — Ana “Why isn’t How I Got Over by The Roots on this list? After all it is nominated for a Grammy. I also think that Eminem’s album was a lot better than Kanye West’s album. Distant Relatives by Nas & Damian Marley should also be on this list. I am a huge Linkin Park fan and I know their new album shouldn’t be on this list. Hands All Over by Maroon 5 should be somewhere on this list too.” — Facebook User “The editor of this article is a big fool and should be fired for putting up articles like this … No Drake, no Susan Boyle, no Taylor Swift, no Lady Gaga, no T.I. and these are the people making real good music that people can actually spend their money [on] and buy without regretting like I did [with] Kanye`s album. People actually think ‘Runaway’ is a great song just because of the lengthy video. That’s Dumb!” — Kenneth “Yo, Kenneth. Chill. We get it. You like music that sells well. You like ‘Glee’ soundtracks, Susan Boyle, Taylor Swift, Eminem, Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls records. That’s cool man … we happen to like music that appeals to us personally and possibly other intelligent, educated people with an ear for more progressive tastes. [It] just so happens, at the end of the year, journalists’ and critics’ lists are going to skew more towards our sensibilities than yours. Don’t worry though man, Susan Boyle is still going to sell 5 million records or whatever. The sun still rises in the morning.” — Yoprince Related Artists Kanye West Eminem Rick Ross (Hip-Hop)

Jack Johnson’s To The Sea Floats To Top Of Billboard

Justin Bieber inches back to #2, and Taio Cruz debuts at #8 with Rokstarr. By Gil Kaufman Jack Johnson Photo: Karl Walter/ Getty Images If it’s summertime, then it just makes sense that ultimate surfer-dude Jack Johnson should be bobbing at the top of the Billboard 200 album charts. The mellow wave-rider’s latest, To the Sea, will easily grab the #1 spot next week thanks to sales of 243,000 in one of the best debuts of the year, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. That tally easily bested the week’s #2 album, Justin Bieber ‘s My World 2.0 , which nudges up one spot to #2 after moving another 52,000 copies. The only other newcomers in the top 10 are Taio Cruz , whose Rokstarr lands at #8 (24,000) and former “American Idol” runner-up Clay Aiken , who hits #9 with his oldies covers album, Tried & True (22,000). The rest of the top 10: Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers (#3, 45,000), Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now (#4, 41,000), Usher ‘s Raymond v. Raymond (#5, 35,000), Lady Gaga ‘s The Fame (#6, 33,000), Carole King and James Taylor ‘s Live at the Troubadour (#7, 25,000) and Ke$ha ‘s Animal (#10, 20,000). Business was way down for reunited rockers Stone Temple Pilots , whose self-titled comeback album shed 71 percent of its first-week business, dropping 14 spots to #16 on sales of 18,000. The fall was not quite as hard for Nas and Damian Marley , whose Distant Relatives falls eight spots and 32 percent to #18 in week two (17,000). Discount sales on iTunes help the indie supergroup Broken Bells jump 29 spots to #38 (9,000), while emo stalwarts Hawthorne Heights hit #50 with Skeletons (7,000) and blog-hot noise duo Sleigh Bells rocket back up 110 slots to #55 with their month-old debut, Treats (7,000). Though very little he does is quiet, the chart debut from Russell Brand ‘s “Get Him to The Greek” band, Infant Sorrow, sneaks in at #148 (4,000), no doubt thanks to such NSFW anthems as “Going Up,” “F.O.H.” and “Little Bird.” Look for the top 10 to get a makeover next week with new albums from Christina Aguilera , the “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” soundtrack, another “Glee” compilation and discs from rappers Lil Jon and Plies . ‘Iron Man 2’ Director Jon Favreau Says Film Is Better Than Original

‘I do prefer this one,’ he says of the sequel. By Larry Carroll, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jon Favreau Photo: MTV News In the minds of some, Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man” is the greatest superhero movie ever made. It might be surprising to learn, then, that the director considers this week’s “Iron Man 2” to be the better film. “I do prefer this one,” he revealed when we interviewed him recently. With a smile, he admitted, “But I think it’s because I just worked on this one. “That’s the nature of being a filmmaker,” he explained. “They’re each your baby. I’m the worst [to answer questions like this]. “Ask somebody if they have a smart kid,” he said, comparing the experience. ” ‘You have a nice kid, a cute kid, but is he smart?’ Well, I’m not really objective, but I have to say yes. So it’s that type of thing.” The sequel amps up the story line by focusing on Tony Stark’s life after he has revealed himself to be Iron Man, and beefs up the cast substantially with newly added franchise stars Mickey Rourke, Don Cheadle and Scarlett Johansson. “I really feel like with this one, I’m really proud of what we have been able to do,” Favreau reasoned. “I like the challenge of how we addressed having a successful first film. The way we added new characters and new castmembers. I like the way that even though we have a lot of characters, the story lines slowly weave into each other so by the end of the film, you have two story lines and then you have one big story line and it all ends that way.” Favreau also admitted that he’s particularly proud of how he was able to juggle all that while simultaneously honoring Marvel’s unprecedented request of the filmmaker to help set up several other films that will be made by other directors and writers. “I like the way it sets up what can happen later with ‘Avengers’ and ‘Thor’ and all that stuff,” he added. “I think it balanced out all that needed to happen, and there’s a sense of fun. It’s fun and exciting.” As for the effects and action in “Iron Man 2,” Favreau said it also tops the original. “The film is much more ambitious in the form of sound and visual effects,” he explained. “I have to say I’m very happy now that everything’s done. I want to leave it alone. I think it’s the best version of the film we could have had.” Will you be seeing “Iron Man 2” on opening day? Let us know in the comments below!
