10 Ways To End “Black Woman” Stereotypes

Every race has its stereotypes. And we’re all aware of the stereotypes directed at black women. There are stereotypes that depict us all as ghetto, loud, argumentative, bitter, etc… I don’t like to be stereotyped- especially negative stereotypes likes the ones I’ve listed above. That’s why, as a black woman, I’m very mindful of my words and actions, while refusing to play into “black woman” stereotypes. I’m still genuine to who I am, and I don’t try to serve as the PR representative for an entire race of people. But I also recognize that because of the culture black women live in, it’s wise for us to be fully aware of how and why other individuals form opinions about us. This way, we’ll be fully equipped to recognize, not play into, and even tear down any negative stereotypes when the spotlight is on us. My advice to all black women is this: Be mindful of the image you want to portray. Check out 10 ways to end “black woman” stereotypes at MadameNoire.com

Eternal Youth Potion Discovered

Harvard University researcher Ronald A. DePinho has discovered a way to reverse age degeneration for the first time. His experiments on mice have demonstrated that you can return individuals to a younger state, with new growth on brain and improved fertility. While scientists knew about the role of telomerase—an enzyme that adds DNA sequence repeats at the end of chromosomes—in body decadence and experiments were made with extremely simple organisms, this is the first time that this breakthrough has been achieved in complex mammals. While it's not human testing, this discovery could be an amazing weapon to fight Alzheimer and other degenerative diseases. According to DePinho: We wanted to know: If you could flip the telomerase switch on and restore telomeres in animals with entrenched age-related disease, what would happen? Would it slow down aging, stabilize it, or even reverse it? It was akin to a Ponce de Le

Enrique Iglesias Says He’ll Water-Ski Nude ‘At Some Point’

‘I’m waiting for a very, very, very dark night,’ the Spain-born pop star jokes to MTV News of honoring World Cup bet. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Enrique Iglesias Photo: MTV News Ladies everywhere — whether soccer fans or not — should have been celebrating Spain’s win in the 2010 World Cup, since the team’s victory means that Enrique Iglesias will now have to make good on his promise to water-ski naked. The singer vowed that if his native country took the Cup, he’d hit the water in the buff. “I was just extremely passionate about the World Cup, and to watch Spain win was just unbelievable,” Iglesias told MTV News on Monday (July 19), opening up as well about his latest album, Euphoria. “What happened is … I’m from Spain and I was rooting for Spain and they lost their first game against Switzerland, so all my friends would call me up and make fun of me … and that’s where that bet came in.” Cheering on his squad paid off for Iglesias (in a sense), but fans are wondering just when they can expect to see the star au naturel? “I’m waiting for a very, very, very dark night and … yep, a bet’s a bet,” he conceded. “At some point, I will have to do it.” If Enrique does go through with it, he’ll probably need to ensure there aren’t any police around first. But for now, he sounded less concerned with law enforcement than with what might be lurking on the beaches of Miami. “Someone told me about that, technically, it is indecent exposure, so I guess you can get arrested for it,” he said. “There was a bunch of [conditions I required for the bet]: I had to be a little drunk. It had to be late, late at night and the thing about the bet, what’s scary is that Miami’s full of sharks, so you don’t want to fall, middle of the night, naked in the ocean. It’s not fun — especially drunk.” Do you want Enrique keep his promise to water-ski in the buff? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Enrique Iglesias

Britain’s men need to take more responsibility, says Tim Henman

• Success or failure is ultimately down to player’s desire • Alex Bogdanovic should not receive any more funding Tim Henman has called on British players to start taking more responsibility for themselves. The retired player is frustrated that there are no English men in the singles draw at Wimbledon next week and is peeved in particular at Alex Bogdanovic, who has complained he has not had enough support from the Lawn Tennis Association. “When are players going to take more responsibility for themselves?” asked the former British No1. “You’re always hearing complaints about lack of funding, demanding to have a new coach or the parents complaining about something. “Ultimately it comes down to the player himself. I know Boggo, he’s a nice lad and has lots of talent but he really needs to look at himself in the mirror and ask if he deserves more funding. He’s 26 and after all he’s had he really shouldn’t be getting any more. “The LTA get a lot things wrong but too often they get blamed for everything,” he added “I have a problem with a lot of the players,” said Henman, who believes that they must learn to wean themselves off the LTA’s golden teat. “All I ever hear from the players is, ‘I didn’t get this, I didn’t get that, my funding has been cut from X to Y.’ It’s ridiculous. There’s too much of this sense of entitlement. “Part of the problem is that the players get given too much and I find that disappointing. It’s got to be about the individuals; they’ve got to go out and make this happen and do it themselves,” “The Argentines and the Spaniards, do you think they get that sort of funding from their federation? No, they get nothing. The responsibility falls on the individual. So how much do you want it? How badly do you want to be getting to these tournaments, to be paying your own air fares and for your own hotel rooms. I see those Argentines and Spaniards and they have a different desire. You’ve got to have that hunger.” Tennis Everton Gayle guardian.co.uk

Katherine Jackson on Conrad Murray: He’s a Monster

Not long after Dr. Conrady Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter today, those close to Michaej Jackson – whose death the physician is suspected to have been responsible for – reacted in outrage. “He’s a monster,” said MJ’s mother, Katherine (pictured), after the arraignment. Brian Oxman, the family’s veteran lawyer for Jackson’s father Joseph, was equally disgusted with the judge’s decision. “This charge is a slap on the wrist,” he said. “There’s great disappointment here. [ Conrad Murray ] should’ve been charged with a higher degree of responsibility. What he did was reckless. It was a disregard for human life.” Michael’s sister Latoya also chimed in, putting everything in a disturbing context: “Michael was murdered and although he died at the hands of Dr. Conrad Murray, I believe Dr. Murray was a part of a much larger plan. There are other individuals involved and I will not rest and I will continue to fight until all of the proper individuals are brought forth and justice is served.”
