German Hackers Accused of Stealing Ke$ha Nude Photos, Pre-Released Singles

This is a sobering thought for many: there are allegedly photos of Ke$ha nude floating around the Internet. According to The Associated Press, two German hackers have been nabbed trying to sell unreleased tracks of various artists, while officials say the suspects are also accused of blackmail attempts against Ke$ha, threatening to release compromising photos of that singer unless she helped to promote one of them, an aspiring DJ. Ke$ha is a master of various looks. One of them, reportedly, doesn’t involve any clothing. Duisburg chief prosecutor Rolf Haferkamp says two men used malicious software to break into computers containing music and personal information for dozens of recording artists, including such stars as Ke$ha, Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake. Police were tipped off to this scheme by followers of Kelly Clarkson, who reported they were contacted via fan websites and offered the chance to purchase new, unreleased material by the former American Idol . “The investigation could result in charges relating to commercial copyright violations, which carry a penalty of up to five years in jail,” Haferkamp said to German news agency Deutsche Welle. One of the alleged suspects is 18 and the other is 23. Both live with their parents and both have admitted to at least a couple charges.

Did Britney Spears’ Camp Concoct Abuse Story?

Was last week’s tabloid report about Britney Spears being abused by her boyfriend a creation of someone in the star’s camp as a means of generating buzz? Probably not, but stranger things have happened. To be clear, we’re not saying Britney Spears or Jason Trawick was in on it, or that anyone was for that matter. But it’s a bit coincidental how it played out. The timing and details of this story? Awfully strange . Flash back to last week. Star reported that Britney phoned her ex, Jason Alexander, confessing that Trawick attacked her. Radar then posted the audio. Spears’ camp decried the rumor, analysts declared the tape bogus, and Brit Tweeted that everyone involved can “kiss my lily white southern Louisiana ass!” Then came this interesting Tweeted tidbit, too: “I’m almost done with my new album and it will be coming out this March. I AM IN L-O-V-E WITH IT!” While it seems crazy to think Britney Spears would need fabricated gossip to get people talking about her new release, this is manager Larry Rudolph’s M.O. The puppet master is famous for planting stories – typically about who Britney’s dating – and micromanaging all aspects of his client’s visibility and image. Can we see Rudolph, Alexander and Star all going in on this together, leaving Spears and Trawick in the dark? Absolutely … think about it, all parties win. Painting her as a sympathetic victim, then handing the floor over to Spears herself for a defiant denial and a casual announcement of the new record? Stranger things have happened, just saying.

Does Power Breed Hypocrisy?

It seems every few weeks a new story hits the headlines exposing a politician for some misstep in his personal life that contradicts the “family values” campaign on which he was elected. Perplexed by these double standards, a team of professors from the Netherlands and Illinois conducted a series of five experiments and found that when everyday people are put into positions of power, they are prone to increased moral hypocrisy. The five experiments the professors devised ran through different morality-testing scenarios such as stealing a bicycle and evading taxes. Each scenario led to a common conclusion: while leaders hold their followers to high standards, they are not nearly as strict when it comes to their own personal behavior. The participants assigned the most powerful status indicated they would look down on others the most for fudging numbers for financial gain. Participants were told that for helping with the experiment, they could enter a lottery to win a prize. Participants privately rolled dice to determine the number of lottery tickets they would win (more tickets, more chances to win). The high-power participants also won the highest number of lottery tickets, indicating that they in fact cheated to gain more lottery tickets. Meaning the high-power participants judged others harshly for cheating, and then turned around and cheated themselves. Another interesting result came from fifth experiment in the research study, wherein the subjects indicated their own power status as well as whether they deserved this position of power. The powerful individuals who genuinely believed they earned their status by far exhibited the most moral hypocrisy. Psychology Today offers two possible explanations for this phenomenon. First, leaders can “delude themselves that they are working for the greater good” and consequently make exceptions for themselves. Second, politicians recognize that they are able to get away with misdeeds, so they opt to take advantage of their position’s privileges. Fear of losing power could be the key to keeping the powerful honest. The researchers found the only way to force a person of power to be honest was if “if the powerful sense that their unrestrained self-enrichment leads to gossiping, derision, and the undermining of their reputation.” Why are people more likely to cut themselves some slack when they are in a leadership position? Perhaps, nothing reminds your ego how powerful you are than when you break the rules. Taylor Swift’s ‘Mine’ Video: The Other Teenage Dream

Taylor’s fantasy of marriage and family offers a very different vision from Katy Perry’s sexy romps. By James Montgomery Taylor Swift and Toby Hemingway in “Mine” Photo: Big Machine Records It’s interesting that the premiere of Taylor Swift’s “Mine” video comes less than three weeks after the grand unveiling of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” clip . For all their differences, they are essentially about the same thing: the fantasies of young, thoroughly modern women. Of course, those fantasies are about as different as the women presenting them. Perry’s “Teenage Dream” is very much about the immediacy of pleasure, of fun and sexy romps on the beach and uninhibited road-trip adventures. Swift’s version is quite the opposite: Hers is a dream buoyed by the satisfaction of the long-term, of a doting husband and towheaded children and white picket fences. They are two wildly dissimilar sides of the same coin: Perry wants to be free; Taylor wants a husband. And the one you tend to identify with probably says a lot about you. To be clear, these certainly aren’t the only two avenues available to women (not by a long shot), but if you want to get professorial about things, “Teenage Dream” and “Mine” offer up a rather interesting dissection of feminism in the 21st century. This is not to suggest that Perry or Swift are paragons of the movement, but they are two of the hugest pop(ish) stars on the planet, adored and idolized by millions. And certainly, a portion of those millions are young girls. So, really, there’s probably something at stake here. To that end, while I don’t want to wade too heavily into the field of gender politics (these are, after all, just a pair of pop videos), it’s interesting — if not sort of disappointing — that neither Perry nor Swift are seen running Fortune 500 companies or piloting Black Hawk helicopters in their videos. Those, it would seem, are Teenage Dreams of a different sort. Of course, neither option is necessarily bad. Perry is empowered because she is totally unchained, free to pursue whatever (or whomever) she desires. Swift goes the opposite route in the “Mine” video, investing fully in the idea of love and family and the future. There may be bumps along the way — as she sings, there are bills to pay and late-night shouting matches, and suddenly, the big house doesn’t seem all that attainable — but she’s committed. She’s in it for the long haul. It’s not a particularly sexy dream, but it’s certainly an admirable on, especially in these times. With “Mine,” Swift has basically set herself up as the anti-Perry. And in doing so, she’s created a rather interesting counter-proposal to KP’s teenage dreams. No one is saying either is wrong, it’s just interesting to see two of the biggest female stars with such wildly differing takes on feminism and the future. They are, in essence, presenting two possible paths. A girl’s gotta have options, after all. What did you think of Taylor’s new video? Share your review in the comments! ‘District 9’ Star Says Sequel Should Come ‘Eventually’

‘It’s really coming down to a timing issue,’ Sharlto Copley says of plans for a second movie. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Wigler “District 9” Photo: Sony Pictures Given its $115 million box-office success, positive critical reception and overwhelming audience enthusiasm, it’s fairly safe to assume a “District 9” sequel will go into production in the next few years. And when MTV News recently caught up with the film’s breakout star, Sharlto Copley, he told us he and director Neill Blomkamp have definitely discussed a second visit to the District. “Neill has said several times that he wants to do another one. It’s really coming down to a timing issue,” Copley explained. “I think eventually, what Neill wants to do — I’m doing films now as an actor — when Neill commits to something he obviously commits for a significant period of time. At the end of the day, it’ll be up to when Neill wants to do it, but I know he wants to. I would love to go back to the world and the character. I really enjoyed the character.” Copley says that as far as what his character might be up to in a sequel, one thing he’d like for Wikus is to remain on Earth, versus having the film set on another planet. “I would definitely want to keep it grounded on Earth. I definitely have more interest, personally, in work that feels a little bit grounded,” he offered. “It’s work that’s easier for me to relate to. I think that was the edge with ‘District 9,’ the world of Johannesburg and the world of South Africa. I would hope that it would stay there. But you never know with Neill — he really is a genius! If he came up with a good way to put it in another planet, I’d be interested! I’d be there in a second.” Finally, we asked Copley for his take on the much-discussed, did-he-or-didn’t-he-turn-into-a-prawn moment at the end of “District 9.” “You see, this is the interesting thing — everybody just buys that! This is what I’m loving,” he laughed. “Everybody is always like, ‘That’s you at the end, right? That’s you! That’s you!’ I’ll just leave it there! If you’re convinced, then you’re convinced!” So we suggested that frame one of the sequel should be Wikus popping up behind the Prawn’s shoulder … to which Copley laughed in our face. “Right, like knocking his head off with a bat! No, I can’t say,” he insisted. “I can’t say.” Check out everything we’ve got on “District 9.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
