Negative Phrases You Need To Stop Saying

Source: DaniloAndjus / Getty via  MadameNoire.com : If you put a tape recorder in your back pocket and played it back to yourself after a few days of recording, you may be surprised at what you hear. Sometimes, we don’t even realize the patterns in our speech, the types of words and phrases we’re prone to using, and our overall tone. And, really, the way we sound often isn’t the way we mean to sound. When we mean to say something encouraging, we can accidentally say something that sounds foreboding. When we mean to just do some brainstorming, we can sound like we’re doubting ourselves. The somewhat scary—or good, depending on which way you go—thing is that, the words we say actually influence our thinking and outlook. We hear ourselves say things, and then our subconscious takes in those messages, internalizing them. It’s a vicious cycle, or a good one, depending on what you say. Here are negative phrases you probably say daily, but should stop. Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Close Thank you for subscribing! It’s out of my hands Sometimes saying this can be a good thing, if you’re saying it when you’ve truly done all you can to make things go your way, and at this point, just need to let the pieces fall where they may. But sometimes, people say this when they haven’t even put in the work to have something yet, and have just decided that, due to the way the world works, due to injustices and unfair systems, it’s out of their hands. No matter what they do. 2. People are the worst Yes, sometimes people can be frustrating. But just because someone cuts you off in traffic or cuts you in line at the grocery store doesn’t mean that all people are the worst. Saying this regularly will put a negative lens on the way you interpret all actions of others. 3. This would happen to me Your flight is delayed, the Internet goes down just as you’re sending over that job application, and you say, “This would happen to me.” But, first off, that’s rather self-involved. Those kinds of things happen to a lot of people, every day. But second off, this sentence carries the idea that you’re cursed in some way or things aren’t supposed to work out for you. That mentality won’t get you far. 4. I’m not good at insert skill here Negotiating, people skills, promotion, networking—you name it. When you tell yourself that you’re not good at that, you remove the most important thing you need to be good at any of those: confidence. 5. Prepare for the worst Perhaps you think you’re protecting yourself by always keeping your expectations extremely low. You think that, by never hoping for something, you’ll never be let down. But you’ll also spend every day living with the feeling as if the worst has already happened. That’s a shame, and a waste of some perfectly good days. Dapper Dan Addresses Gucci Fiasco & Plans To Help Other Brands With Diversity

Tonight is the fashion reality tv that we’ve been waiting for: the return of Project Runway. Season 17 starts tonight at 8PM and they are coming with some changes that extend beyond just a new network. According to Nina Garcia, Project Runway Judge since Season 1 and Editor In Chief of Elle Magazine , “this is the most inclusive season, it’s the most diverse season we’ve ever had from the judges to the models to the contestants.” Source: Noam Galai / Getty Though Tim Gunn is noticeably absent, they have added former Teen Vogue Editor In Chief, Elaine Welteroth as a judge and Karlie Kloss as the host. What to expect from Welteroth? “I’m fair. I tell it like it is. I’m not afraid to be honest and critical, that’s what we’re there to do. I’m an Editor by nature, by training.” Project Runway has been a platform to introduce up and coming designers to the world and providing them with valuable feedback and skills needed in the retail world. The most successful from the series in undoubtedly Christian Siriano, who won Season 4, and has returned to the show as a judge for Season 17. Siriano promises that the season is going to be “bold, exciting and controversial”. He also added, “I think people are going to be really inspired!” For Season 17, the judges include Nina Garcia, Christian Siriano, Brandon Maxwell, and Elaine Welteroth. Model Karlie Kloss is the Executive Producer and Host of the show, taking over for Tim Gunn. Even though they are judges, they get very invested in the contestants. Welteroth revealed on the carpet, “I fall in love with them and I get a little emotional. We’re really in it. We’re invested in it. We want to see these guys win!” In the age of the Internet, a platform and a little luck, this opportunity can turn a burgeoning fashion designer into a multi-million dollar brand (it happened for Siriano). Welteroth stated, “We want to help cultivate the best next generation of designers and I think there’s a few of them here that will go on to do really amazing things.” Tune into Project Runway Season 17 tonight, March 14th, at 8PM. The Bachelor Season Finale, Part 1: What Did Colton Do?!?

Colton Underwood promised to be a different Bachelor this season, coming into the season as a virgin. (It's true! He had never had sex before! Not sure if the show had mentioned that at all.) And, in the end, Underwood lived up to this promise. He made an unusual decision on part one Season 23 finale, breaking down in tears often and taking both viewers and Chris Harrison aback. Like, way aback. For what reason? What did Colton decide? Scroll down for all the delicious details! 1. Cassie or Bust! As nearly all Internet users knew heading into the finale, Colton lost it a week prior after Cassie said she didn’t love him and wanted to go home. He jumped a fence and disappeared into the night, leaving Chris Harrison and company confused and in a panic. 2. Quote of the Century? “We called back to Los Angeles… and we woke up other executive producers and executives and said, ‘This is what’s happening. What do we do?’ and they said, ‘At some point, you’re gonna have to call the authorities,'” Harrison said on air of Colton bolting. “Luckily as we were about [to call the cops], someone’s walkie talkie clips.” (Ummmm… you were gonna call the cops and say what?!? A grown man was walking outside by himself? Please help?) 3. I’m F-cking Done! When finally tracked down by producers on the finale, Colton told Harrison that he was “done” with the show because Cassie’s rejection reminded him that he is “not enough.” 4. What About Tayshia and Hannah G? You know, the two women remaining on the finale? Colton said they were cool and all and he was maybe falling in love with them — but he was ALREADY in love with Cassie. And he wanted to fight for her! 5. Sorry, Ladies So Colton went out and made history: he dumped both of the women remaining! He chose to enter part two of the finale (airing on Tuesday night) with zero suitors because his heart was set on winning Cassie back. 6. How Did Tayshia Take It? Very well. She wasn’t happy about Colton’s decision, but she also said some nice things about The Bachelor before leaving Portugal. View Slideshow

Sophie Perry: Daughter of Luke Perry Claps Back at Grief-Shaming Trolls

Early last week, beloved actor Luke Perry died following a massive stroke. He was only 52 years old. His daughter Sophie Perry spoke out about the sudden and tragic loss of her father. Unfortunately, hateful trolls have been shaming Sophie over her grieving process — but Sophie is hitting back. Sophie took to Instagram to clap back against the hate. “Since my dad died,” Sophie’s post begins. “I have received a lot of attention online.” “And most of it has been positive,” she acknowledges. “But of course, some people just can’t be nice.” “And I’m here to say that I did not ask for this attention,” she reminds them. Her dad was the celebrity, not her. And she certainly did not want him to die. Sophie notes: “I did not ask to be thrown into some virtual spotlight.” Sophie shared this selfie along with her post. “And while I don’t mean to offend anybody,” she writes. “I’m also not going to cater to any one else’s needs and beliefs.” “I’m 18,” she reminds them. An adult, sure, but also a teenager who has done nothing to deserve so much ire. “I swear like a sailor,” Sophie acknowledges. “And sometimes I dress like a hooker.” “And,” she notes. “I support causes and you may not.” “And most importantly,” Sophie affirms. “I am going to laugh and smile and live my normal life.” So many people misunderstand the grieving process — perhaps because they are lucky enough to have never suffered a sudden loss like this. Apparently, some trolls think that Sophie is soulless for not sitting in a window and crying where paparazzi can photograph her tears. “YES I am hurt and sad and crying and beside myself with what happened to my dad,” she states. “It’s the worst thing to ever happen in my life,” Sophie reminds her followers. “And I am torn the f–k up over it.” “But,” Sophie writes. “I’m not going to sit in my room and cry day in and day out until the internet has deemed it appropriate for me to do otherwise.” Of course not. Life goes on — it’s just different and filled with bouts of sadness. “And if you knew my dad,” Sophie notes. “You would know he wouldn’t want me to.” “So,” she reasons. “You shouldn’t either.” “So to those of you shaming me for my language and my wardrobe and most disgustingly, my grieving process,” Sophie addresses her trolls. She then suggests: “do us both the favor and just unfollow.” Remember, that is always an option! “It’s a waste of both of [our] time,” Sophie concludes. She is absolutely right. Grief is complicated. In real life, people grieve in their own ways. So just because someone is not grieving as you grieved or not grieving like television characters grieve doesn’t mean that they’re not in mourning. Sophie and her brother, Jack, are grappling with this sudden loss. But they know that their father would want them to continue on and live their lives. It would be nice if people who consider themselves his “fans” could show some common courtesy towards the ones who love him most.
