Peter Mayhew Dies; Actor Behind Chewbacca Was 74

Sad news today out of the entertainment industry: Peter Mayhew, the actor behind the legendary Chewbacca suit/character in the Star Wars trilogy, passed away on Tuesday, April 30. He was 74 years old. The London native, who also played a key role in the television series Dark Towers back in 1981, passed away in his North Texas home. He was surrounded by loved ones at the time, as confirmed via the following Twitter announcement. The family of Peter Mayhew, with deep love and sadness, regrets to share the news that Peter has passed away, He left us the evening of April 30, 2019 with his family by his side in his North Texas home. According to Variety, Mayhew was discovered by producer Charles H. Schneer while working as a hospital attendant in Englad; he was then cast in Ray Harryhausen’s Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger.” The following year, he was cast as Chewbacca, the 200-year-old Wookiee who was a key and beloved part of the Star Wars franchise from the very first movie. Mayhew went on to appear in The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith, The Force Awakens and The Star Wars Holiday Special. (“He fought his way back from being wheelchair-bound to stand tall and portray Chewbacca once more,” his family said after Mayhew returned in 2015 for The Force Awakens.) He was active on the “Star Wars” convention circuit and wrote two books about his experience overall in the franchise, Growing Up Giant and My Favorite Giant. Awhile back, Mayhew was asked by Australia’s BMag why Chewbacca didn’t receive a medal at the end of the first Star Wars along with Solo and Skywalker. “I think it was one of two reasons,” he said in response, adding in this interview: “One, they didn’t have enough money to buy me a medal. “Or two, [Carrie Fisher] couldn’t reach my neck, and it was probably too expensive to build a little step so that I could step down or she could step up and give me the medal.” On the small screen, Mayhew made guest appearances on Donny & Marie, The Muppet Show and Glee. Mayhew also “consulted” on The Last Jedi, according to his relatives when that film came out, putting “his heart and soul into the role of Chewbacca and it showed in every frame of the films from his knock-kneed running, firing his bowcaster from the hip, his bright blue eyes, down to each subtle movement of his head and mouth… “But to him, the Star Wars family meant so much more to him than a role in a film.” Shortly after news of Mayhew’s death went viral, costar Mark Hamill paid tribute to Mayhew online, Tweeting: “A big man with an even bigger heart who never failed to make me smile & a loyal friend who I loved dearly-I’m grateful for the memories we shared & I’m a better man for just having known him. Thanks Pete.” Actor Joonas Suotamo served as Mayhew’s Chewbacca double for The Force Awakens and portrayed the character fully in The Last Jedi in 2017. In 2018, Suotamo told People Magazine Mayhew was a “great guy” adding at that time of the 7’3″ star: “He gave me a week-long Wookie boot camp where he taught me all the nuances of the character.” There will be a memorial service for friends and family on June 29, with a memorial for fans in Los Angeles in early December at EmpireCon. He is survived by his wife, Angie, and three children. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2019: In Memoriam

As spotted on  Engadget the luxury car maker has revealed their Rapid-E model; their first ever electric car. Originally announced in 2014 the four door sedan features a 800V, 65 kWh battery system and twin rear motors.  Even though the V12 engine has been swapped out, it still pumps out 604 hp and 700 pound-feet of torque. Additionally it goes from 0-60 MPH in about 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 150 MPH. In terms of the build out the Rapid-E stays true to the British manufacturer’s super premium brand positioning. On the dash we get a digital display that shows how much charge you have left, energy consumption and much more. At the Shanghai Auto Show Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer spoke on how this release will help redefine their organization. “Unveiling the Rapide E will be a huge moment for Aston Martin. This Is MAJOR: The Cruz Show Follows Big Boi’s Neighborhood From Power 106 To Real 92.3

Source: Scott Dudelson / Getty J Cruz And The Cruz Show Have Made Their Way To Real 92.3 Power 106 has been the home for hip-hop in Los Angeles for as long as fans can remember, but now, things are heating up for their cross-town competitor Real 92.3. Real 92.3 announced on Monday that The Cruz Show –which is anchored by one of LA’s most popular on-air personalities J Cruz , is going to join its afternoon program lineup every Monday through Saturday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting on April 18. The host will be joined by Executive Producer Jeff Garcia , DJ Lechero and DJ Lezlee , who are also making the move. View this post on Instagram Real 92.3, LA’s New Home For Hip Hop AND The Cruz Show starting this Thursday afternoon at 2p! #CruzMoved @bigboy thank you my brother!! @thesportsdude @djlechero @djlezlee and I are ready!!! (in the process of changing my @) @real923la A post shared by CRUZ (@jcruz106) on Apr 15, 2019 at 7:12pm PDT “I couldn’t be more excited and grateful to join such a great group of legendary radio artists here at iHeartMedia’s REAL 92.3,” said Cruz. “Hosting LA’s first-afternoon hip-hop ‘morning show’ with my incredible team and merging with radio’s biggest family is a game changer. A special thanks to iHeartMedia for providing me with a fresh new platform to connect with the Los Angeles urban community.” This move by J Cruz mimics that of Big Boy back in 2015, whose departure shook all of the radio world and Los Angeles. Big helped Power 106 dominate the Los Angeles ratings for close to two decades, but left after iHeartMedia offered him $3.5 million a year–more than double what he made at Emmis Communications. His departure was so significant for the station that power 106 fell from their top 5 spot among popular Los Angeles radio stations down to 14–3 spots below their competitor, Real 92.3. There’s no word on what caused the move for The Cruz Show from Power–where he took over for Big Boy–to Real 92.3, but it was probably a similar situation to Big Boy’s regarding a higher paying gig. Big Boy ended up being sued by Emmis communications following his departure, and though he came out victorious, that information probably lends itself to a pretty big reason J Cruz might now be too vocal about why the switch was made–at least not for a while. J Cruz and his crew stopped by their new home over at Big Boy’s Neighborhood to talk about their move and how it feels to be back together again. Peep their interview below to see what both parties have to say about Real 92.3 being their new home.

Mike Sorrentino is Now Prison Pals with Fyre Festival Scammer

Jersey Shore: Family Vacation stars Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio and Vinny Guadagnino recently sat down with noted plague enthusiast Jenny McCarthy. During the interview, they reveal that Mike Sorrentino's experience in jail has included rubbing elbows with some other famous criminals. Notably, he's become buddies with the scammer responsible for the Fyre Festival catastrophe. “Has he mentioned anything that's bad about it?” Jenny McCarthy asks of Mike Sorrentino's time behind bars. “No,” Vinny answers. “But he is in there with the guy from the Fyre Festival.” “Yep,” Pauly confirms. “And,” Vinny adds. “He's in there with the guy that leaked Jennifer Lawrence's nudes.” He clarifies: “Like, that hacked her phone.” “They play Scrabble together,” Pauly adds. This makes things a little awkward, as Jenny notes that this same scumbag “hacked my phone too!” “You want [Sorrentino] to tell him anything?” Pauly asks. Jenny certainly does. Notorious Fyre Festival scammer Billy McFarland may be extremely famous, but clearly, the phone hacker is personal for Jenny. “I have a whole list of questions for everybody,” Jenny expresses. But her interest zeroes in on the new friendship with McFarland. And Jenny even has some advice for the imprisoned reality star. “Tell Mike he’s got to get as much information on the Fyre Festival,” Jenny insists. She says that, with enough juicy intel: “He can write two books.” The boys agree. “Imagine what he's learning in there,” Vinny remarks. Pauly then jokes: “He's learning how to hack phones!” He is, of course, joking. No one should ever illegally access private photos on another's phone. But prisons are notorious for too often functioning as places where criminals refine their craft rather than reform. Billy McFarland's Fyre Festival was a fascinating catastrophe. It was the subject of two eye-opening documentaries. Netflix's documentary was controversial and arguably funnier. Hulu's doc was a deeper dive into the Fyre Festival and is widely regarded as having been more rigorous. Honestly? Both are good, in part because the disastrous festival is so fascinating. And because most of the victims are rich people who signed up for a rich-people-only festival, a lot of people don't feel bad about how things went down. We almost never say this, but … Jenny McCarthy is right. (About this particular issue … and almost only about this particular issue) Mike could absolutely write a book about his time in prison, and he has a massive fanbase who would be excited to read it. (He could of course hire a ghostwriter or even co-author it if he's not confident in his ability to physically write a book; it's not for everyone) Of course, if he writes it about McFarland, there could be some fallout. How much does he value this newfound friendship? Is it enough to turn down an opportunity to sell a bestselling tell-all book? Hopefully, the only thing that Mike is “learning in there” is a hard lesson that white collar crimes are still, you know, crimes. Vinny and Pauly were joking about him picking up new illegal skills. It's good to hear that Mike isn't miserable over his prison sentence, but he can't genuinely be having fun. Once he's out, he'll be happy to never again find himself in this … situation.

How Taraji P. Henson Relates To ‘Best Of Enemies’ Character: You Always Feel Like You’re Fighting For Equality

See original here:

It’s undeniable that we are in tense times surrounding racism in the United States, so Taraji P. Henson ‘s new movie co-starring Sam Rockwell, titled The Best of Enemies may be exactly what we need. It tells the story of no nonense civil rights leader Ann Atwater and KKK President C.P. Ellis and the development of their friendship during the course of a charette to decide whether Durham schools should be desegregated in the 1950’s. Source: Derrick Salters/WENN.com / WENN HelloBeautiful had the opportunity to speak with Bill Riddick, who actually came to Durham from Raliegh to set up, organize and oversee the charette and encouraged Ann Atwater (played by Henson) and C.P. Ellis (played by Rockwell) to co-host it for full representation. Riddick discussed that a charette is designed to solve one specific problems, we joked during the interview that we need a charette right now in the United States. Henson was passionate about playing Atwater who was undeniably a strong character, “She was up against all these men, all these powerful men.” If you wonder how Henson was able to channel this for the character, she added, “I feel like that in this industry.” Rockwell stated he read the script and knew that this was an important film to make. As someone who has seen the film (and actually lived in Durham for four years), I highly recommend it. You’ll walk out feeling hopeful for a new future and re-energized to make change. Colton Underwood Compares Period Blood to Literal Sh-t, Gets Crapped on By Internet

Colton Underwood is not entirely sure how the female body works. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who watched the most recent season of The Bachelor, considering ABC hammered home the fact that Colton had never ever gone all the way with a woman before. Which is to say, the guy was a virgin throughout filming. It’s safe to assume this has now changed with Cassie Randolph . Underwood selected her as his hopeful wife-to-be on The Bachelor finale — and, although the couple is not engaged, they do seem to be totally in love. And have probably made some sweet, passionate love at some point in their relationship. Anyway, though. We digress. The point here is that Underwood isn’t an authority on vaginas and/or what goes on inside of them. This became more evident than ever during a round of “Ask Me Anything” on LadyGang. Cohost Keltie Knight asked the reality star whether he notices if a girlfriend is “wearing a cute underwear or, like, a period underwear.”  Sort of a weird question, and definitely a personal question, and the former professional football player totally fumbled his response. Underwood appeared to be surprised and confused over the idea of “period underwear,” prompting Becca Tobin to explain that “girls have special underwear that’s designated for your time of the month.” WHAT? EWWWW! GROSS , Colton basically replied. “You keep ‘em around? Buy new underwear! Throw them away,” a clearly disgusted Underwood shot back. At this reply, When Jac Vanek said that Colton was being “wasteful,” to which Underwood tried to respond by saying he’s really being magnanimous. Or at least he’d happy to be if this situation arose with his significant other. “I, as a husband and a boyfriend, will go buy you new underwear,” Underwood said, shoving his foot all the way into his mouth by adding: “That is so gross! So if you sh-t your pants, are you gonna just wash them? No, you’re throwing them away.” Dude , Knight, replied. Dude! “It’s not sh-t,” she said. “It’s flesh of my womb.” It’s true. For those unaware, per Wikipedia: The menstrual cycle is the regular natural change that occurs in the female reproductive system that makes pregnancy possible. The cycle is required for the production of oocytes, and for the preparation of the uterus for pregnancy.  Trust us, guys, you do not want to compare this natural monthly occurrence to human feces. Not if you ever want to get inside your woman’s underwear ever again.  As you can see below, Twitter users took major exception to Colton’s ignorant and insensitive take: “@colton compared having your period leak in your underwear to s–tting your pants,” one critic wrote. “This is why I’m forever grateful my boyfriend grew up with 4 sisters so he’s not an ignoramus.” Added another: “I’m sorry, but you talking about women’s periods is disgusting.. my husband goes to the store to buy me tampons because he’s not an embarrassed 12 year old.” And another: “@colton did you throw out every jersey you ever bled on in football?” As part of this interview, Colton also weighed in on whether women should get waxed regularly. “Yes, 100 percent,” he said, much to Becca’s dismay. The reality star later shared his thoughts on how many times a week a woman should have sex with her husband. “Ideally, probably, like, three to four,” he said, leading to the only acceptable response from any husband reading this: LOL! You may be in for a surprise after you exchange those vows, dude! View Slideshow: The Bachelor Secrets Exposed: Affairs, Herpes & More!
