Summermetrics: 10 Ways of Looking at a Very Bad Movie “We as summer moviegoers should probably be grateful for Rock of Ages , the first big film of this blockbuster season to signify nothing other than good old-fashioned Hollywood narcissism — no knotty questions about the soupy, staple-y origins of man and xenomorph; no referendums on anyone’s increasingly perplexing career; no hyena laughing about the misfortune of the hubris-salted studio executives who green lighted John Carter . Just Tom Cruise in leather pants, with a tattoo of a heart above his actual biological heart. It’s the platonic ideal of summer cinema: You are going to go to the theater, and people are going to entertain you inside of it,” writes Grantland .

John Waters & Provincetown Film Festival Fete Roger Corman

The Provincetown International Film Festival feted Roger Corman over the weekend with John Waters taking to the stage in a laugh-filled interview before a packed house in the eccentric enclave’s town hall. The maverick producer/director/actor offered up highlights from his long career and offered up a litany of tales from his years the low budget B-movie throne. While distributors consistently have spats with the MPAA for getting a “harsh” rating, Roger Corman recalled a time when he went back to the MPAA to ask for a “harsher” rating. “Eight year-olds” don’t want to see a G-rated film,” John Waters observes… Roger Corman received the festival’s 2012 Filmmaker on the Edge Award, while actress Parker Posey received the Excellence in Acting Award and Kirby Dick took the event’s Faith Hubley Career Achievement Award. Dick’s latest, The Invisible War caught a good amount of buzz at the festival with a number of insiders already predicting the title will get an Oscar nomination. But the weekend was owned by Corman. Justin Bieber ‘Still Needs Guidance,’ Manager Says

Scooter Braun opens up about the star’s maturing process with Billboard. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber in his “Boyfriend” music video Photo: Justin Bieber is definitely making a more mature musical statement on his June 19 release, Believe . However, his manager notes that just because the 18-year-old sounds older, doesn’t mean that the baby bird is ready to leave the nest just yet. “Adult artist? Just because he’s legal now doesn’t mean he’s an adult,” his manager, Scooter Braun, told Billboard about the growing pop star. “He still needs guidance; he’s still finding his way. He’s no longer a boy, but he’s definitely not yet a man.” During the interview, Braun also notes that Bieber has more pressure on him than pop stars before as he has come up in the digital age. He added that he’s essentially a one-man boy band who can’t rely on the support of other group members. “No one in the history of the world has ever grown up with the pressure that he has, being a solo artist that young, that famous, in a world with technology that exposes us 24/7,” Braun adds. “He was literally going through puberty in front of the entire world, with everyone expecting something from him and a lot people waiting for him to screw up. He’s a fighter. I’m proud of him — how’s he’s stayed true to himself and taken control of the entire situation.” The singer himself recently opened up about his public image and how he always feels guarded in interviews. “I mean, I keep my guard up a lot, because you know, you can’t trust anyone in this business,” Bieber told the June issue of GQ. “That’s what’s sad. You can’t trust anybody. I learned the hard way.” And given his busy promotional schedule, Bieber will have a lot more interviews to give in the coming weeks. He is traveling the globe promoting the release. He’s already made stops in Oslo, Norway , Paris and Mexico City , among others, and this week touches down in New York City where he will appear on the “Today” show. Our names are Julia (15) and Pauline (14). We come from Germany….

Our names are Julia (15) and Pauline (14). We come from Germany. Now it’s the day after and we can’t believe it yet. It isn’t such a big experience then the others, but it’s big for us! June 6 2012, we went to watch Germany’s Next Top Model final show and Justin performed “Boyfriend”. It was awesome. We screamed the whole time, we were so nervous and lucky. The feeling was great with all these Beliebers. After the show, Justin gave an interview for the TV show “red!” and we ran away from our seats to be closer. It was Julia, me and 5 other Beliebers who tried to jump over this thing to run to the catwalk where Justin would give the interview. We know you can’t imagine it very well but please try to. Then a security guard came and stopped Julia as she was putting her foot over. Before the interview had begun, we saw Justin behind the stage and we screamed his name. We showed him our posters and he smiled. Then he waved at us and gave us a kiss with his hand. We were so happy, but then we saw Kenny! We all screamed his name, “KEEEENNNNY, KEEEENNY!” and he came to us. We talked with him, took photos and touched him.  There were so many people who filmed us, we were so loud and hysterical but, so what? We said, “Kenny please bring Justin to us, please bring him to us. ” I even said ‘please’ in German too. Haha. He said he will try but they haven’t got much time. It was incredible. When the interview was over, Kenny went over to Justin and they came directly to us! All of us were so nervous and crying. We were so happy. He gave us his hand and laughed the whole time. We touched his hand two times and it felt so wonderful. It was a nice hand but a little bit sweaty . But our hand was sweaty too. Haha. When everything was over, my dad  called me and I screamed & cried, “DAD! OMG! I TOUCHED JUSTIN’S HAND! AND PAULINE TOO! I’M SO LUCKY DAD! OMG! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!” All the girls around me screamed, “OMG SHE TOUCHED HIM!”. Thank you Kenny for getting Justin to come to us. Really thank you. But maybe he came because he saw us before the interview has begun, when he was behind the stage. Justin smiled the whole time, we couldn’t believe it. Since yesterday, we really truely know what ‘NEVER SAY NEVER’ means. All your dreams can come true. This was our dream! Last year in concert, our seat was in the last row and yesterday our face was directly in front of Justin’s. We will never ever give up and we will be Beliebers till the end. Thank you Kenny, thank you Justin. Hope you enjoyed your trip to Germany, we love you. -Julia and Pauline  Read more: Our names are Julia (15) and Pauline (14). We come from Germany….

My Name is Jacki, I’m 17 years old and I’m from…

My Name is Jacki, I’m 17 years old and I’m from Switzerland. For Justin, I drove from Switzerland to Germany. I thought I would only see him perform “Boyfriend” on stage, but then we saw a banister. The show I went to see was Germany’s Next Top Model . When the winner was taken, we climbed over this banister and ran to the stage. We were in the first row so nothing could stop us now. During the whole show we were scared, wondering when he would come out. We were running down and up to different seats. Then we got into little fights with people. Finally Justin came out and I screamed. I couldn’t believe that I saw Justin right next to me. He talked with a women for an interview. After this Interview, he came to US, all the Beliebers! Then he looked at me. I SCREAMED. He touched my hand and smiled big. He winked with his eye and just lipped the words, “I love you.” Then he went to the other Beliebers. I just wanted to cry. This was the best day of my life. Read the rest here: My Name is Jacki, I’m 17 years old and I’m from…

Selena Gomez Covers Elle, Gushes Over Justin Bieber

Sorry, ladies. But it sounds like Justin Bieber really is that dreamy. In the latest issue of Elle , Selena Gomez is hesitant to open up too much about her relationship, but she does share one story with the magazine about just how lucky she is to be dating the Biebs. “He really is a hopeless romantic,” Gomez says. “I had just mentioned it in the car – all I said is that I really want to see Titanic again, and then…” … this happened . Among other topics discussed by Selena in the interview: Growing up in poverty : “I can remember about seven times when our car got stuck on the highway because we’d run out of gas money… [but my mom still] saved up to take me to concerts. She took me to museums, aquariums, to teach me about the world, about what’s real.” Working with Disney: “[It] is a machine, so people automatically assume that you can’t work for the channel unless you act and sing and dance and sign up for all that. That’s absolutely not true. I always did everything the way I wanted to do it.” Choosing roles : “I get offered the teenybopper movies, and I’ve done that. I haven’t done a mega-hundred-billion-dollar Transformers movie, but that’s not what I want to do either.”

Taylor Swift And John Mayer’s Awkward L.A. Run-In

Sources say the former pair tried to avoid each other out at a West Hollywood bar after his Rolling Stone confession. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift and John Mayer Photo: FilmMagic/WireImage John Mayer and Taylor Swift had the misfortune of being the same place at the same time on Tuesday night in Los Angeles. Making things all the more awkward was the fact that earlier that day, Rolling Stone published an interview with Mayer in which he admitted that Swift left him “really humiliated” when she released her track, “Dear John.” Swift and Mayer had their run-in at West Hollywood hotspot Tower Bar. According to the New York Post , Swift walked into the hangout and noticed Mayer, who was there with a friend. “Taylor very visibly — in front of the entire restaurant — demanded to be moved to the other side,” the eyewitness said. “The bar’s usually an oasis of calm and privacy for celebrities and power players, but this was drama central.” Meanwhile sources tell UsMagazine.com that she’s still reeling from his interview. “I can’t believe he is trying to play the victim!” the source said of Mayer, who reportedly dated Swift in 2009, while they were working on music together. “John was a player and treated her like s–t,” another insider says. “He looked at her as a conquest. Taylor is going to think even less of him now!” While he may feel that using their relationship as fodder for her Speak Now ballad was “cheap songwriting,” when MTV News spoke to Mayer in 2009, he was singing a different, more pleasant, tune about the pop star. “I woke up with the song in my head called ‘Half of My Heart,’ ” he explained, noting that the Battle Studies duet came about via Twitter messages they shared. “And the idea is that it’s this real sort of updated — not that it needs to be updated — sort of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks thing. “I thought, ‘Well, if this is going to be my love letter to that style of music, who’s going to be the Stevie Nicks in this equation?’ ” he recalled. “And I thought, ‘This Taylor Swift girl is going to be around for a long time.'” So, what is making Mayer so angry these days? Well, on her song, she sings, “Dear John/ I see it all now that you’re gone/ Don’t you think I was too young/ To be messed with/ The girl in the dress/ Cried the whole way home/ I should’ve known.” “I never got an email. I never got a phone call,” he said in the new interview, out this week. “I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower?” Related Artists Taylor Swift John Mayer
