Peyton Manning Named 2013 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year

He can do more than just star in hilarious commercials. The Denver Broncos quarterback, whose career was nearly derailed by multiple neck surgeries two years ago, has been named the 2013 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year. The honor comes days after Pope Francis was named Time’s Person of the Year. In his cover story on Manning, who is poised to break Tom Brady’s single-season touchdown pass mark this year, Lee Jenkins writes that Manning “remains the reigning champion of the everyday.” Jenkins also cites Manning’s evolution from someone with unparalleled physical gifts to someone who now succeeds more with his mind and his determination. “The laser rocket arm — Manning’s description in that famous Sprint commercial – is more like a cap gun now,” reads the article. “Yet he is currently piloting the best team in the AFC and the most bountiful offense in the NFL while threatening single-season passing records for yards and touchdowns. Still, that’s not why Manning is Sportsman of the Year for 2013.” So, why did Manning earn this distinction, on that has gone in the past to such star athletes as Derek Jeter and LeBron James? It’s the way in which he has written his “sequel,” Jenkins said, gushing over how Manning has been “prepared to face consequences,” been “prepared for adversity” and been “prepared for change.” Did SI make the proper selection? Should Peyton Manning be the 2013 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year?   Yes, absolutely! No, what about David Ortiz! No, what about LeBron James! No, what about… someone else! View Poll »

Watch South Park Online: Season 17 Episode 10

South Park Season 17 Episode 10, the show’s season finale, was epic. Not just because we love Kim Kardashian and Kanye West here at The Hollywood Gossip … okay mostly for that reason. Boy did they get skewered! In the middle of the night, Wendy was woken up by ‘Ye, who snuck into her room to read her a story about a “hobbit” who dreamed of being beautiful. You can see where the show is going with this, most likely. “The Hobbit” was able to become beautiful through the power of Photoshop (although she’s still no Beyonce), in an installment you need to see to appreciate. Bogus Bolitics: GOP Goon Likens President Obama’s Ability To Override Republican Minority To Black Slavery

You mad? GOP Senator Likens Limited Authority Of Senate Minority To Slavery The Republicans have whining their complaints about how less-than-pleased they are with President Obama’s latest judicial and executive nominees, but one GOP Senator took it too far when he recently compared their lack of power to reject the nominations to slavery in the 1800s. via Think Progress Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE), joining a parade of Republican Senators angry that a minority of Senators can no longer obstruct President Obama’s judicial and executive nominees, took to the Senate floor Friday to compare his caucus’ plight to that of abolitionists in the 1800s — a comparison that probably would have shocked abolitionists from the 1800s. Indeed, for much of the Nineteenth Century, the Senate’s anti-majoritarian design played a crucial role in thwarting efforts by abolitionists to eliminate the South’s “peculiar institution.” He had this to say: They can appoint the entire judiciary of the United States in the District Courts and in the Circuit Courts with absolutely no involvement whatsoever from the minority. None. That’s what their rule change did. Let me take that rule change and think out loud about where we put ourselves as a country. I wonder who was the first United States Senator in our history who came to the floor and said, “My fellow Senators, I have thought about this, I have contemplated it, maybe I have even prayed about it. And I believe the day has arrived to end slavery in the United States. And I will be attaching an amendment to every bill to end that horrific practice. All the havoc that the shady GOP has wreaked for the duration of President Obama’s time in office and they have the nerve to whine about not getting their way and liken it to slavery? These douche bags just don’t quit. SMH!
