More Peter Dinklage, Please! Four More Big Sequel Roles The Newly Minted ‘X-Men’ Actor Should Score

Director Bryan Singer  told Deadline yesterday that Emmy-winning actor Peter Dinklage will play a “key role” in X-Men: Second Class Days Of Future Past . This is, of course, great news for the spiffily dressed but not terribly interesting Mad Men mutants. Fans of Game of Thrones , Elf , 30 Rock , and The Station Agent have long known that Dinklage brings intelligence, gravity, and a scary-sharp wit to every production. In fact, I’d go so far as to declare that Dinklage is such a valuable asset every tentpole this year should add him to its cast. The Words of Peter need to spread far and wide. Here are four roles in 2013’s biggest sequels that Dinklage would tyrannize, or is that Tyrionize? : The Mandarin in Iron Man 3 :   It’s time for a real challenge to Tony Stark. The first two installments had the billionaire superhero playing rock’em, sock’em robots, and The Avengers portrayed Stark as the coolest guy in the room. The trilogy-closer should give Robert Downey Jr. a truly worthy foe – one who’s smart enough to launch both a physical attack and a charm offensive. Because as awesome as his high-tech salute to the San Francisco 49ers is, Iron Man’s real weapon is his crinkly-eyed charisma and all the things it can get him, like Gwyneth Paltrow’s  attention. Dinklage’s past performances suggest he’s Downey’s equal in the smart-ass and getting-ass departments, so the perfect showdown for Iron Man 3 would pit Iron Man’s quips against The Mandarin’s drollness in a game of pwns so amazing it’ll create a whole new level of snark. (Yes, Dinklage isn’t Chinese, but neither is Ben Kingsley  or that indeterminate accent he’s working in the trailers.) Beetee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire :   Strength, speed, and cunning won Katniss her first Hunger Games, but that won’t be enough to clinch a second victory in Catching Fire . With the Capitol out for blood — sigh , aren’t they every year? — our ponytailed heroine needs alliances, even with total dorks like Peeta, to win the 75 th Games, an all-star challenge that pits previous winners against each other. Dinklage’s lack of physical threat makes him perfect for the role of Beetee, a middle-aged electrician who’s formidable precisely because he doesn’t seem like it (and because he didn’t go to school in pouty archery). The Hunger Games trilogy is, among other things, great strategy porn, and the sight of Dinklage using what his mama gave him – those full, luscious brains – would make compulsive voyeurs of us all. Tad Fawn, sensitive ladies’ man, in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues :    After Veronica Corningstone brought women’s lib to San Diego, the tides have turned on Ron Burgundy and his pelted goons. Southern California’s most-laid local celebrity is now Tad Fawn, the fuzzy sweater-loving, Stevie Nicks-adoring host of a popular PBS show about pet care. It’s frustrating enough to Ron that Cuddle Buddies is beating Channel 4 Evening News in the ratings, but now Tad is threatening to steal Ron’s greatest career achievement: the 1979 Playgirl ’s Burt of the Year title and centerfold. Dinklage’s best roles have allowed the actor to play the wounded bad boy, plus his real name is dirty enough to be his porn name . Dinklage is long overdue for a showcase for his sexy beast, and what better a forum could there be than a man-off with a soft, confused Will Ferrell ? Guy who slaps around Adam Sandler and his friends in Grown Ups 2 :  That’s it. That’s the whole movie. I would, in fact, jump at the chance to get on a bus for half an hour, fork over $12 to the hungover teenager behind the counter, and suffer through a bunch of trailers I’ve already seen online but LOUDER just for the privilege of watching Dinklage slap the smirks off Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, David Spade, and Kevin James for whining about how being a straight white guy in an America where women they don’t find attractive have the gall to exist is just so hard, man . ( Chris Rock gets a pass because it’s his first Happy Madison flick. He won’t be in the sequel.) When Dinklage gets tired, he can put on a snazzy suit and start throwing them around the room. He’s kind of the king  of that . Inkoo Kang is a film critic and investigative journalist in Boston. She has been published in Indiewire, Boxoffice Magazine, Yahoo! PMC-Owned BGR Website Relaunches With Complete Redesign

More good news from Movieline’s parent company, Penske Media Corp. (PMC): FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BGR Website Launches THE NEW BGR, With Complete Redesign. Leading mobile and gadget brand redefines the category with new look and remarkable user experience. Today marks BGR’s third redesign since the site’s initial launch six years ago, though this redesign is noticeably its most thorough. Markedly apparent is the site’s sharp rebranding, with new logos, colors, and what Jonathan calls, “a new personality.” Jonathan and his team created a new logo to better reflect this site’s growth and evolution, with what Jonathan describes as, “Clean-cut, strong and powerful, but still with an edge and personality.” Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Penske Media Corporation (PMC) Jay Penske said, “Jonathan has once again raised the bar in technology and gadget publishing—not only answering his users’ requests, but significantly enhancing BGR.com’s design and presentation layer on all platforms. The new BGR homepage design is second to none in one of the most exciting categories online.” Jonathan and his team have created the new BGR to better reflect today’s internet experience, making its content clear and easy to navigate from a desktop, tablet and or mobile phone, with no redirects to a subdomain. Users will also find greater ease clicking through the site’s galleries, hubs, review pages, tip us box, search area, integrated Twitter feeds, mini hubs, featured section pages, and more. The new BGR clarifies its verticals and categories with its new hubs layout, making it easier for users to navigate to the categories they most like to read about. Sidebars have been eliminated and each page is full with, allowing content to flow as users read – from left to right. Real-time information is an aspect of the site that will continue to be enhanced over the next few weeks, with comments continually updating as well as new posts appearing if they go up while a user browses the homepage. BGR is pleased to have partnered with Motorola on its re-launch and rebranding. Motorola has also stepped in to partner on a BGR app for Android, set to launch in the next couple weeks. About BGR: Jonathan Geller is the founder of Boy Genius Report, now known as BGR. What began as a column on popular gadget blog Engadget quickly grew into one of the site’s biggest draws, and Jonathan soon detached the wildly popular column to create what has since become the biggest mobile news destination in the world. BGR was acquired by leading digital media company PMC in April 2010 and Jonathan currently acts as President and General Manager of the newly formed BGR Media, Inc., and Editor-in-chief of the BGR website. First ‘Iron Man 3’ Trailer: What Do You Think?

Tony Stark is struggling to hold it together in the first trailer for Iron Man 3 , and that’s before Ben Kingsley as conveniently and ambiguously-ethnic baddie The Mandarin enters the picture with his samurai hair and his even more ambiguous weirdo accent. Then it’s bye bye Stark mansion and hello waking nightmare as Tony’s world unravels. “Nothing’s been the same since New York ,” he sighs. “I can’t sleep… and when I do, I have nightmares.” Air-attacks crumbling that sweet Malibu pad into the Pacific and being haunted by an Iron Man doppelganger are freaky enough, but the saddest sight in our first glimpse at Iron Man 3 has to be the image of Stark crawling into bed alone, Iron Man parts strewn across the floor like an addict’s discarded syringes. Five bucks the line “It’s like I don’t even know you” or “I can stop whenever I want!” are uttered somewhere in this movie. Trailer debut via Apple iTunes : Dynamic action, a hint of self-destruction, Guy Pearce’s clean-shaven and therefore supremely threatening mug (what’s more rage-inducing if you’re Tony Stark – Pearce kissing your lady on the cheek, or your competition from another dude in a magical flying suit?)… I’d venture to say it seems like Shane Black is back. Let’s hope. Synopsis: Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man? Iron Man 3 is in theaters May 3, 2013.

‘Iron Man 3’ & The Mandarin’s Debut: Guess The Plot Using Images From The First Trailer

Intentionally vague official plot synopsis, be damned; the first trailer for Iron Man 3 hit the ‘net, bringing with it a handful of images and glimpses at scenes just begging to be captioned. [ Want the full gallery of hi-res Iron Man 3 trailer images? Head here . ] So we know the vague, personal, vaguely personal setup : When enemies destroy his world (including, apparently, that sweet crib and his personal Iron Man suit museum) Tony Stark heads out to find out who’s responsible. Hint: Look for the bearded half-white guy with ten rings and a flair for Eastern fashions. But what kind of life was Tony living, anyway? Ever since The Avengers , life superheroing while flying solo seems a little more empty. (Sorry, Pepper.) Sometimes Pepper wakes up in the middle of the night and hardly recognizes him… because he’s also SHAKING HER AWAKE! But if Tony’s asleep, WHO’S IN THE SUIT?? Best Punk’d ever. So Pepper’s like, uh, no. And Tony’s all, ‘What? Chicks dig guys who wear nerdy accessories on their heads!’ (They don’t. Trust me.) Never mind. Here comes The Mandarin, who isn’t Chinese because wouldn’t that be crazy? Instead let’s give Sir Ben Kingsley a fashion identity crisis and the strangest alien-speaking-English accent of all time. At least he has magical bling.

Marvel Studios Says Iron Man 3 Villain The Mandarin Isn’t Chinese, He’s International

When Entertainment Weekly posted an exclusive photo of actor Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin, the super-villain who rocks Tony Stark’s world in the upcoming Iron Man 3 , it resurrected a thorny question around the virtual office here.   In the Marvel universe, the Mandarin is the son of one of pre-Revolutionary China’s wealthiest men and an English noblewoman, as well as a descendant of Ghengis Khan.  So, why, as Executive Editor Jen Yamato wondered when news broke that Ben Kingsley would play him, did the job go to a half-Indian, half-English actor?   The answer, according to Marvel Studios Kevin Feige , appears near the bottom of the EW post.  As a villain, it turns out, the Mandarin is kind of a mutt. According to EW,  Feige says Marvel “wanted to blur the background” of the Mandarin portrayed in Iron Man 3 . “It’s less about his specific ethnicity than the symbolism of various cultures and iconography that he perverts for his own end,”  Feige explained. ”  As EW further explained:  “From his samurai hair, to his royal robe, to his bin Laden-esque beard, and the AK-47 he keeps at his side, Kingsley’s interpretation is a hodgepodge of various warrior motifs. That way, I guess no single ethnicity, particularly one with a population of 1.3 billion, can be offended by Kingsley’s portrayal or his character’s evil doing. Please feel free to weigh in on the debate. Or, if you just want to look at pretty pictures. USA Today also posted some exclusive shots  from the film.
