New Balance recently launched a new series examining the busy lives of some “behind the scenes” folks in Hip-Hop. This particular installment features Keri Hilson and Ne-Yo’s tour DJ, DJ Mars, who boasts a few other notches on his belt too. As the president and founding member of the World Famous Superfriends crew, DJ Mars single handedly changed the DJ scene in Atlanta. Currently touring with famed recording artist Keri Hilson, Mars’ career has taken him in numerous directions. Starting as Outkast’s original DJ, and touring with everyone from Ne-yo, Ciara, Usher, Monica and Kelis, DJ Mars is no stranger to rocking crowds. To date, Mars has personally spun at every club and major Platinum Party in Atlanta ranging from artists like Jay-Z and Diddy to Jermaine Dupri and Beyonce. Simultaneously, DJ Mars (aka Marshall Thomas) kept his business acumen intact by growing the World Famous Superfriends organization into a multi-million dollar business with DJs spinning from Florida to Japan and encompassing radio, tours and mixed-CDs in their packaging. In November 2010, DJ Mars was featured as a cast member on BET’s new reality series, “Master of the Mix”, a competition among seven of the countries most renown DJs.
Dancing With the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy has identified his dream partner for the upcoming season of the hit ABC competition series: U.S. soccer goalie Hope Solo! After giving Hope’s name immediately when asked who he’d love to partner with this fall, the Ukrainian hunk added, “Let’s do it! I want somebody hot, I want somebody exciting, somebody passionate, and I’ll do the rest.” Maksim took Kirstie Alley to the finals last season. He believes he could repeat that success with Hope Solo … provided her athletic footwork translates to dancing. Solo led the Americans into the World Cup final against Japan, where they fell just short of the championship, losing on penalty shots. Despite the heartbreak, Maks would offer Solo a chance for redemption, should ABC decide to give her a Dancing With the Stars whirl. “I’m waiting,” he says . “And please don’t hurt your legs.”
Demi Lovato recently went into great detail about her personal life , explaining to fans just what she went through that landed her in rehab and inspired the new single, “Skyscraper.” But the singer apparently left out a vital piece of information in that interview: she’s dating Ryan Phillippe! “It was really hot and heavy for a while,” an insider tells E! News, adding that Phillippe’s status as a new father “kind of threw her for a loop.” Phillippe is 36 and the father of two kids, while Demi turns 19 next month. Recovering comedian Artie Lange said he would give anything to get his job back on the Howard Stern Show. He has not, however, asked Howard about it. Lange left the show in early 2010 after a sudden hospitalization. He later went to rehab to get his alcoholism under control, but is reportedly better now. Stern discussed Artie this morning, saying Lange’s comments “stirred up a whole bunch of conversation that I don’t even know how to begin to address.” Asked if Artie ever personally approached Howard to ask for his job back, Howard replied, “No, but I think he would if he could get a hold of me.” As for Artie’s possible return to radio with a new show , Howard said, “Of course I support it. I think it would be great. I’d like to listen to Artie.” Howard, whose show Lange was a fixture on for years, added, “I’m glad to hear he’s feeling better … I’m pulling for him. I hope he does okay.”

First Lady Michelle Obama will appear on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as part of her ongoing Joining Forces initiative to help military families. The White House made the announcement today Monday. Michelle will tape the episode with a military family, the Marshalls, in Fayetteville, N.C., later this week. The show will feature Barbara Marshall, a 15-year Navy veteran who started a home called “The Steps-N-Stages Jubilee House.” That establishment gives homeless female vets a place to stay and other aid. Hard to think of a better cause for Obama or anyone else to support. The Extreme Makeover team will be building a new jubilee house in this week’s taping. The episode of the ABC show is scheduled to air in October. This is not Michelle Obama’s first stop to promote Joining Forces. Last month, the First Lady taped a special appearance on iCarly on Nickelodeon. That episode is slated to air in January.
The U.S. women’s team fell to Japan in the World Cup final yesterday, but this kid’s epic celebration of America’s first goal almost made up for it. Seeing his native country take the lead late in the second half (the Americans ultimately lost on penalty kicks), was too much excitement to contain. Watch this youngster back the Truffle Shuffle in all its glory … Truffle Shuffle at World Cup NOTE: If you don’t know the origin of the Truffle Shuffle, follow the jump for a clip from The Goonies (1985) and the above clip will seem even funnier: Truffle Shuffle – The Goonies
Good job ladies. We’re all proud of you regardless! Nobody likes to lose. It makes your cereal taste soggy and your bed feel lumpy. Depending on the circumstances and what’s at stake, losing can remain in your system like a parasite. There is no known cure, other than to go out and win the next time around. But I have to issue the U.S. women’s soccer team a special waiver, to be used just this once. It’s not because losing is acceptable. It’s just that, considering everything, it’s not as stomach-churning as it could have been. The U.S. women deserve a few gentle noogies today for squandering a raft of opportunities in their World Cup final Sunday against Japan. In another sporting context, you might be tempted to give them even more of a scolding. In the first half alone, they probably could have been ahead, 5-0, or so, if shots had gone a foot or two this way or that. They had leads of 1-0, and 2-1 in this 2011 final, and each time allowed a determined team of Japanese women to tie the game. After extra time, it came down to penalty kicks, like it did in 1999. There likely were lots of sports bras on the field Sunday in Frankfurt, but none were bared for the U.S. in a moment of sports exultation and marketing bliss. The U.S. women failed to come through. They lost. Here are the three provisos from the aforementioned waiver that apply: They played hard and they played well; they just didn’t capitalize on several chances, and they couldn’t fend off Japan. They lost to Japan, a nation reeling from the devastation of an earthquake, tsunami and a nuclear disaster. The crushing disappointment that ordinarily accompanies such a defeat is diluted somewhat by the satisfaction that Americans — and the rest of the world, for that matter — feel toward Japan’s spirit-lifting triumph. And, it was an exciting game full of plot twists that kept onlookers riveted. It was definitely an exciting game and although we didn’t get a win, the level of competition and spirit seemed to invigorate American’s interest in the sport.
