This bizarre slice of nude cultural misappropriation comes to you courtesy of Norifumi Suzuki , the director of cunt fu fightin’ classics Sex & Fury and Girl Boss Guerilla , two of the most mam-orable entries in Japanese movie giant Toei sudios’ “pinky violence” line. Though the number of Japanese Catholics is very, very small- just under 0.5% of the population- the titillation factor of ladies of the cloth losing their habits for scenes of bondage, whippings, and lesbian lovin’ proved to be just as appealing in the Land of the Rising Sun as in the shadow of the Vatican. As the 70’s wore on, the nunsplotation craze hit Japan full force with titles like Cloistered Nun: Runa’s Confession and Sins of Sister Lucia , but all these titles owe a debt to School of the Holy Beast , which brought the genre to Japan and created the template for all the blasphemous, bawdy fun to come. Yumi Takigawa stars as Maya, a young woman who joins a mysterious convent to find out what happened to her mother, who died in the care of the nuns years before. What this undercover sister finds is a virtual pressure cooker of suppressed carnal desires, which the lesbian Mother Superior urges her charges to (literally) whip out of themsleves. In one scene, two nuns seeks Sapphic solace in each others’ arms in the bath; in another, two nuns suggestively gorge themselves on fish sausages for want of the man kind. When the Mother Superior catches these two sausage-suckers in the act, she forces them to engage in a topless whip fight as penance. When Yumi’s secret motives for joining the convent are revealed, the nuns bind her with thorny vines and beat her with roses in a beautifully staged scene that is heaven for bondage fans. Sexciting things are abreast on the skinternational front, with filmmakers in Hong Kong preparing for the splashy theatrical release of 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy, a big-budget titty flick being touted as the world’s first 3D IMAX porn. The film is based on the 1991 “Category III” (that’s Chinese for “X”) erotic film Sex and Zen , an adult comedy set in China’s mythical past that combines the high-flying acrobatics of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon with the uninhibited humping of late-night Skinemax. Writer and producer Steven Shiu said that the film is an experience that will blow your mind as well as your load: he says the “very graphic sex scenes” will “leave audiences feeling like they are sitting right there at the edge of the bed.” The film stars Japanese “AV” (adult video) stars Saori Hara and Yukiko Suho and Chinese softcore sexpot Vonnie Lui as the horniest courtesans in ancient China baring all three B’s on a series of elaborately outfitted sets. Shiu promises group sex, oral sex, sadomasochism, and religious sexstasy. The party poopers at mainland China’s censorship board don’t look kindly upon excessive displays of skin, so 3d Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy will most likely be heavily cut for its release on the mainland. But NPR reports that five travel groups from mainland China have booked horny holidays in Hong Kong specifically to see the movie, and advance ticket sales of the film show up to 100,000 people may make the trek. No word yet on whether 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy will be released in the US, but if the film is a success in Asia- it it looks like it will be- hopefully it will skinspire Western filmmakers to do the same. 3D remake of Deep Throat , anybody?

An all-star line-up of artists have contributed their works to aid the relief efforts for the victims of the disaster in Japan. Music from the hottest artists around has been compiled into Songs for Japan, an all-star album created to raise money for earthquake relief efforts. Available today on iTunes, the 38-track digital disc includes Nicki Minaj’s “Save Me,” Eminem’s “Love the Way you Lie (ft. Rihanna),” Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” and Cee Lo Green’s “It’s Okay.” The download is $9.99; a physical double disc will be released next month. The charity album is a joint effort between Universal Music Group, Sony Entertainment Music, Warner Music Group and EMI Music. More than 10,000 people have been declared dead, according to Japan’s National Police Agency. Proceeds from Songs for Japan will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society to assist survivors.
