It could all be an act… but, then again, neither Jennifer Lopez nor Marc Anthony are very good actors. The former couple, presumed to be fighting ever since their divorce, appeared on Ellen yesterday in promotion of their reality competition
Amy Brumfield spreads a nasty bug, while Richie Law, Brielle Von Hugel and Brianna-Marie Bell fight for the title of Drama Queen. By Adam Graham Group auditions begin on “American Idol” Photo: FOX Group Night Drama took hold of “American Idol” on Thursday (February 9). The whole episode, in fact, zeroed in on the Drama — the infighting, the personality clashes, the late-night bleary eyes — and didn’t make any time for actual, you know, singing. Luckily, there were enough distractions to keep things interesting. A mean sick bug seemed to be going around with the contestants, and Patient Zero was Amy Brumfield, whom you remember as Tent Girl , or the girl who lives in a tent in the woods in Tennessee. Brumfield was down and out for most of the episode, battling flu-like symptoms, while those she came in contact with were also given a mean case of the pukes. Lesson: Perhaps tent life isn’t the healthiest, most stable way to live. Brumfield found herself in a group with Alisha Bernhardt early on, though Bernhardt’s pushiness and insistence her group perform “Joy to the World” — the Three Dog Night version, not the Christmas carol — eventually drove Brumfield away. Bernhardt, a cop, eventually drove everyone in her group away after at one point threatening to fight a fellow contestant; she wound up linking up with another group and rehearsed Sugarland’s “Stuck Like Glue,” rather than “Joy to the World.” But the group’s progress was halted when group member Christian Lopez, wouldn’t you know it, got sick. (No telling if Brumfield was to blame.) Speaking of being sick, Symone Black — the contestant whose nasty fall off the “Idol” rehearsal stage ended Wednesday’s “Idol” episode — made her way back from the hospital to the good news that she’d advanced to the next round but the bad news that most of the groups had already been formed. She was able to quickly link up with a group, however, and her biggest issue seemed to be that her father, George Black, embarrassed her with his level of unconditional support. Competing with Bernhardt for the evening’s Drama Queen title were Brielle Von Hugel, a Hollywood Week veteran who was in a group with Pia Toscano last year, and Brianna-Marie Bell, who turned her nose up at contestants who were unable to identify whether they were an alto soprano or a mezzo soprano. But both were outshined, however, by the cowboy-hat-clad Richie Law, a would-be Scotty McCreery who drove his team — which included wry jokester Heejun Han — with a singular vision and an iron fist. He insisted his group learn multiple harmonies and dance steps and wouldn’t take “no” for an answer, and was seemingly clueless to his teammates’ lack of belief in his vision. “We’re gonna do this my way, and that’s it,” he said at one point, leading to one of many eye-rolls from Han. The episode was all buildup, no climax; viewers will have to wait until next week to find out who stays, who goes and if all the drama was worth it. At the opening of the episode, early favorite Lauren Gray — “I have two words for today: Lauren Gray,” Jennifer Lopez said after the St. Louis auditions — was dismissed. After showing so much promise in her audition, Gray didn’t even end up making it to Group Night. What did you think of Thursday’s “American Idol”? Let us know in the comments! Lauren Gray delivered a black-and-white audition on American Idol last night, leaving little for the judges and viewers to even debate. She was awesome! Lauren Gray American Idol Audition This Arkansas native – who works in her family’s one-stop wedding business by day, and sings in her family’s rock band at night – did Adele proud by covering her single “One and Only.” The look on Jennifer Lopez’s face in the following video really says it all about this crooner, as does J. Lo’s appropriate response when Lauren says “This is the biggest thing that’s ever happened in my life.” “It won’t be the biggest thing ever.” Gray is off to Hollywood, and so are two other standouts from St. Louis: Johnny Keyser and Reis Kloeckener .
Britnee Kellogg auditioned for American Idol in Portland last night and the backstory she shared with us shed a great deal of light on Jennifer Lopez’s divorce from Marc Anthony . Wait… what?!? Vanity Fair magazine has released its annual Hollywood issue, profiling a dozen or so up-and-coming actresses, and – just like every other year – all the actresses of any color were pushed to the side. Literally. The cover is tri-fold, featuring one “power” panel – the one you’ll actually see on newsstands – and two foldout panels. Rooney Mara (of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo ), Mia Wasikowska, Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain landed the coveted “power” panel. Black actress Adepero Oduye (of Pariah ) is featured on the second foldout alongside Elizabeth Olsen (the third famous sister) and Shailene Woodley. And finally, on the last foldout is Mission: Impossible star Paula Patton next to Felicity Jones, Lily Collins and Brit Marling. The magazine has done this almost every year. In the past, Zoe Saldana, Rashida Jones, Rosario Dawson, Kerry Washington, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Lopez, Angela Bassett, Will Smith, Samuel L. Jackson and Don Cheadle have all been pushed “to the right” so as not to be seen on newsstands, probably in hopes that a “white-washed” cover will result in more sales. See ‘em all here. We would waste our breath on this subject matter, but we did that back in 2010: Vanity Fair’s Young Hollywood Issue Features No Women Of Color See the whole cover below: RELATED LINKS: Gabourey Sidibe Doesn’t Mind Exclusion From Vanity Fair Cover Zoe Saldana: NYLON Magazine’s First Cover Girl Of Color In 7 Years!

“Twilight” star drops out of big-screen adaptation of elastic Hasbro toy. By Kara Warner Taylor Lautner Photo: Getty Images Bad news for those looking forward to seeing Taylor Lautner as super bendy, slightly superheroic “Stretch Armstrong”: He’s officially out of the big-screen treatment of the popular ’70s Hasbro toy. MTV News confirmed Lautner’s departure with a source close to the production. According to The Wrap , Lautner had to drop out of the film due to scheduling conflicts. The “Twilight” heartthrob is reportedly set to begin work on an independent film with Oscar-winner Gus Van Sant . Relativity Media announced Monday (January 30) that it will take over production of the film from Universal. The studio has inked a distribution deal with Hasbro. The movie was originally slated to be released in 2012, but it will now hit theaters on April 11, 2014. A new cast is expected to be announced shortly. When MTV News asked Lautner about “Stretch Armstrong” last year, he seemed excited to explore the unknown with “Armstrong,” since the film version is a brand-new concept and not a reboot or sequel. He also admitted that the character’s superpower — the ability to stretch one’s body parts to extremes — is hardly super at all. “It’s like the worst superhero power, possibly, to get, and how you’re going to take that and use it for good and how you’re going to be creative with that [is the predicament],” Lautner said. “The awesome thing with toys is it doesn’t give you a story line, so you get to create it.” Although no creative decisions have been made yet, “Muppets” and “Get Him To The Greek” screenwriter Nick Stoller [http://splashpage.mtv.com/2010/05/19/stretch-armstrong-similar-to-iron-man/] was originally attached to write the script and has said the film would be an origin story similar to the tone set in “Iron Man.” Who should fill Taylor Lautner’s spot in “Stretch Armstrong”? Black Eyed Peas mastermind teases a collabo with the pop princess on #willpower, set for 2012 release. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: Max Morse/Getty Images In a sea of A-list contributions for will.i.am’s forthcoming solo album, the Black Eyed Peas mastermind recently dropped one name that will really get pop fans excited. Speaking with Capital FM , will teased that his Femme Fatale collaborator Britney Spears will make an appearance on the album, dubbed #willpower. “I have a song with Alicia Keys — me, Alicia and Swedish House Mafia. I have a song with the Beats, which is pretty grand. Me and Shakira have been trying to finish the stuff we started, and me and Britney is really crazy,” he said. “So we got a song with me, LMFAO and Eva Simons, a song with me and Busta Rhymes and Swizz Beatz — I got a whole other bunch of collaborations.” Spears and will.i.am last worked together on “Big Fat Bass,” a spacey, grinding party tune complete with clapping noises and some rapping from will himself. Their recording session was featured on the MTV special “I Am the Femme Fatale.” There’s been no word yet from will’s camp about the song and whether this is a new track or if he will be including “Big Fat Bass” on the album. The rapper/producer’s love for Brit is hardly anything new: He gushed to MTV News about the pop princess months after they recorded together. “[I discovered] her love for music. I never seen anyone, like, come alive, full of excitement and giggling and laughing behind the mic,” will recalled to MTV News. “She was like a little kid when she was recording the song, and it just brought the whole atmosphere, it changed the whole atmosphere when someone really loves music. So it was great working with her.” His latest single, “T.H.E (The Hardest Ever),” featuring Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger, dropped late last year. #willpower, which also features “X Factor” judge Nicole Scherzinger, will be released later this year. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are back together. On the small screen, at least. The former couple premiered Q’Viva: The Chose n last night, a talent search competition on Univision that finds this pair (along with concert director Jaime King) traveling around Latin America in search of the most impressive acts to eventually showcase in a Las Vegas showcase. ¡Q’Viva! Promo “We’re just meant to be in each other’s lives on different levels,” Anthony says of working with his ex-wife. “This is a long story, it’s not a short story…. Marriage was just one chapter… And kids are another. We’ve got each other for life.” This is a much calmer tone than the one Anthony has reportedly struck in the past, as reports have said he’s angry J. Lo has moved on with Casper Smart and that he wants to make her suffer . At one point on the premiere, while in Puerto Rico, Loepez and Anthony joked about being akin to “Sonny and Cher after the divorce,” with Jennifer saying she has “bad memories” of filming a movie together and Anthony responding: “We’ve always been like this even when we were together. Busting each other’s chops.”
