“It’s hard to find a song that defines me as an artist.” – Casey Abrams These American Idol kids are getting frisky. Like James Durbin , Casey butted heads a bit with producer Jimmy Iovine regarding his selection Wednesday. Jimmy nearly talked Abrams into doing Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight,” but he went with his gut and that meant channeling a little Nat King Cole. Iovine wasn’t pleased, but the judges give a standing ovation after a intimate, stripped down performance that Casey really put his heart and soul into. Whether “Nature Boy” defines him as an artist remains to be seen. But Abrams fans surely loved this and many people on the fence likely did, too … Casey Abrams – Nature Boy (American Idol) Was it the best of the night? If not, who was? Vote after the jump:
Research In Motion isn’t just a leaky faucet ahead of BlackBerry World this year, it’s a waterfall. We scooped RIM’s 2011 BlackBerry lineup back in January and more recently, we gave you a hands-on look at the BlackBerry Bold Touch, BlackBerry Touch and BlackBerry Torch 2 smartphones, but the leaks continue. In recent days we’ve seen full specs, brief hands-on videos and more, and for the two or three… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : The Boy Genius Report Discovery Date : 14/04/2011 13:44 Number of articles : 2
The remaining eight contestants on American Idol showed their cinematic flair last night by taking on songs from movie soundtracks. Like last week, will.i.am was back at Season 10 mentor Jimmy Iovine’s side (making it his fourth appearance on Idol in the past month). And James Durbin pretty much tore the roof off the stage … More » Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Idolator Discovery Date : 14/04/2011 14:28 Number of articles : 2
Lauren Alaina selected Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” on American Idol because “it’s about a young girl struggling to reach her dreams.” Will Lauren reach hers? The inspirational hit song’s top notes are slightly outside the best part of this aspiring singer’s range, but she does a commendable job of it live, overall. The judges liked it and so, we’re guessing, will voters. In fact, before she even got out there, Jimmy Iovine called her a “much better singer” than Miles. Do you agree? Compare it with Miley Cyrus ‘ version below and vote: Lauren Alaina – The Climb (American Idol) Miley Cyrus – The Climb Who sings “The Climb” better?
Did you believe in Thia Megia last night? The young American Idol hopeful dedicated her rendition of “Daniel” to her brother and was told by Jimmy Iovine that “if they believe it, you get to the following week. If they don’t, I don’t believe you do.” So the challenge was laid out, and Megia didn’t falter in the face of it. But she also performed yet another ballad, the third of the evening, and one that couldn’t compete with those of Lauren Alaina and Pia Toscano . Might Thia be in trouble? Randy said she may have played it too safe. We’ll find out tonight. Thia Megia – Daniel
In music and in fashion, Britney Spears is back on top. She’s not renowned for stepping out in high-fashion threads (she prefers the hooded sweatshirt and jeans look, y’all), but she sure looks the part if she tries. Case in point? Sexy ensembles from Italian designers Dolce & Gabbana in a new set of promotional ads for the company. See Britney Spears pictures below: “We love Britney Spears and we love to dance to her new songs! We can’t wait to hear the whole album,” the design duo told the Telegraph (UK). “She has always been among our favourite artists because she has been able to remain true to herself and to her style throughout the years.” “With her music she influenced and inspired generations of people for more than 10 years, and we can’t but congratulate her for this achievement.” Indeed. She looks a little confused in the first image above, but that’s pretty much par for the course these days. Confused but oh-so-sensual.
Jacob Lusk has a tendency to be overly dramatic on American Idol . It’s what has made this season 10 finalist a polarizing singer. It’s also what concerned Jimmy Iovine last night, as the producer was afraid Lusk’s style would negatively affect his cover of “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word” and Jacob might “blow the whole thing.” J. Lo thought the rendition was “beautiful,” while Steven Tyler said both halves of the song just “blew me away.” Do you agree? Or was there almost too much emotion in this performance? Watch and decide. Jacob Lusk – Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word

Producer Nigel Lythgoe says pretaping will continue for several weeks as new judges and director get up to speed. By Gil Kaufman Casey Abrams Photo: FOX If you were looking forward to watching the “American Idol” top 13 perform live for the first time on Wednesday night (March 9), well, you’ll have to just keep waiting. The singers pretaped their performances on Tuesday night after the Fox network confirmed that the show is not quite ready to go fully live. A network representative told People magazine, “we have pretaped shows at this stage of the competition before … although it’s rare.” Among the reasons the network cited for pretaping the show is to make sure that all 13 contestants’ performances make it into the two-hour broadcast. It is only the second time in “Idol” history that there have been 13 finalists, and even with 12 singers in the past, producers have sometimes struggled to get all the songs in without running over . Because some “Idol” fans are conspiracy-minded by nature, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe launched a preemptive strike on Twitter on Sunday to explain and defend the decision to keep the performances taped for the next few weeks. “We are pretaping for 2 weeks as we have a new Director & new judges. It has nothing to do with manipulation you morons.” That comment, of course, led to some spirited back-and-forth between Lythgoe and said “morons,” some of whom needled Lythgoe about the alleged manipulation. “I love you all getting riled up. The Tweet was directed at the MORONS who said we are pretaping to manipulate the show. Not the TRUE fans!” wrote Lythgoe, who eventually threw his hands up and added, “Sorry I can’t play anymore I have to go to work. There’s manipulating to be done. xox.” He updated the situation on Tuesday, lamenting , “It’s been a tough day trying to get the sound right. With a mix of live band, Jimmy Iovine’s amazing producer’s tracks and live vocals.” He also revealed later in the day that the top 13 had recorded vocals for full-length tracks, which he believes will be available on iTunes after the show airs on Wednesday. Thursday night’s elimination show will air live.
