Justin Bieber ‘Doesn’t Really Care’ What People Think Of His Haircut

‘I was inspired by yours,’ Bieber tells Ellen DeGeneres of his new hairstyle. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber appears on “Ellen” on Wednesday Photo: ABC Justin Bieber made headlines on Tuesday when it was revealed he had cut his hair , opting for a shorter, cropped version of his famous swooping hairstyle. The star sat down with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres on Wednesday’s show to talk about the new look, and even had a special treat for the comedienne. “I was inspired by yours,” Bieber joked about what motivated the change, adding that he knew people would protest the new look . “Yeah [people were freaking out], but I was like, ‘I don’t really care.’ ” Bieber then preceded to hand a lock of his famous sandy-colored hair to the star, with one major caveat. “Yes, it’s really my hair, but there’s a perk. I wanted to do something good. I’m giving pieces of it to different people,” he explained. “The thing is, we’re doing something special. We want you to donate it to whatever charity you want.” DeGeneres agreed, also requesting that the star sign something to auction off with it. She announced that she’d be giving the money raised in the auction on her website to the California animal-rescue center the Gentle Barn. DeGeneres tried to cut Bieber’s hair last May when the teen star stopped by her show. Holding up scissors, she said she wanted to cut “just a little” bit of his famous hair. He declined, but did share his secret for perfect hair. “Like five minutes,” Bieber explained. “Like seriously. … I get out of the shower, I blow-dry it and it’s done in five minutes. I just shake [my head].” Bieber is out promoting his 3-D movie “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” which is being re-released on Friday with additional footage. Nick Jonas: ‘I Would Never Consider Myself An Actor’

‘It helps to have a couple of experiences under your belt before you go and do something like a cameo,’ he tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Nick Jonas Photo: MTV News For a guy who had his own show, has starred in hit Disney movies and made one funny cameo on “Mr. Sunshine” on Wednesday night, it’s hard to believe that Nick Jonas doesn’t think of himself as an actor. “I think with anything, it helps to have a couple of experiences under your belt before you go and do something like a cameo or something like that,” he told MTV News of his “JONAS” and “Camp Rock” experiences. “We were able to do a couple seasons of the TV show for Disney Channel and then two movies for them as well, so I’ve done some acting. But I would never really consider myself an actor. “However, I do really enjoy it,” the 18-year-old continued. “And when the right roles come up and when it’s something I feel like I can contribute to in some way, I like doing it.” As much as he’s unsure of his skills, he does have a bigger r

Nick Jonas Says Next Jonas Brothers Record Will ‘Step It Up’

‘When we come together, there’s something special about it,’ he tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Nick Jonas Photo: MTV News It’s been a few years since the Jonas Brothers released Lines, Vines and Trying Times in 2009. Since then, they’ve focused on music for their various Disney projects and their own solo albums. When MTV News caught up with Nick Jonas, he admitted that he and his brothers are really taking their time to make sure their next album is the best it can be before they release anything new. “I’d say that with all the projects we’ve released so far musically, we’re very proud of them, and each one has been a step for us and has been a step of growth,” he explained. “And when we go into the next one, we have it in the back of our minds knowing we’re proud of everything we’ve made.”

Nick Jonas Previews His ‘Mr. Sunshine’ Cameo

‘It was really fun to stretch my personality a bit,’ Jonas Brother tells MTV News of playing a jerk on Wednesday’s episode. By Jocelyn Vena Nick Jonas Photo: MTV News Nick Jonas is probably one of the nicest guys in the music industry, but for his appearance on ABC’s ” Mr. Sunshine ” on Wednesday night (February 16), the pop star had to get his jerk on, playing the ultra-demanding rock star Eli, who gives Matthew Perry’s character a run for his money on the new sitcom. “It was really fun to stretch my personality a bit while doing the ‘Mr. Sunshine’ cameo. I was playing a jerk named Eli, and he’s kind of like a rock-star guy who pushes out a jerk attitude to compensate the fact that he’s really insecure about a lot of things — really similar to me, ” he joked to MTV News about the cameo. “And Matthew Perry’s obviously a legend. It was so cool to work with him and soak up as much as I could.” Jonas said he got the call from the TV star himself asking if he wanted to make a cameo on the show. Jonas said he is a big fan of the former “Friends” star. “I always watched it growing up when it was on, and I’ve got a lot of friends who are die-hard ‘Friends’ fans, but I did watch the show, and I’d have to say he was my favorite character on the show.” When asked what “Friends” character he always felt he related to most, the 18-year-old said he is the Chandler Bing of his circle of friends. “I would definitely be like him,” he said, before explaining that he hopes he’s a bit like Perry as well. “He’s the man. I would hope that I was like him. I mean, he’s very talented in real life and has so much to give.” Are you excited for Nick’s “Mr. Sunshine” cameo? Let us know in the comments! Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’: The New Gay Anthem?

‘Anything she says, I think, will always be the gay anthem,’ says comedian Gabe Liedman. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Larry Busacca/ Getty Images With lyrics like “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen” and “No matter gay, straight or bi/ Lesbian, transgendered life/ I’m on the right track, baby/ I was born to survive,” it’s clear that Gaga is singing for those in the LGBT community who feel disenfranchised on her new track ” Born This Way .” Perhaps it was no mistake that Gaga debuted the club-friendly track on a Friday, the day many people head out on the town. So, as those in the LGBT community make their Friday night plans, MTV News found out what some prominent professionals in the community think about the track and got their answers to the question: Is this the new gay anthem? “Typically, gay anthems have been chosen by gay people, not for gay people. The explicitly pro-gay sentiment is something relatively new to major-label pop (especially major-label pop launching a much-anticipated album by arguably the most relevant pop star in the world right now),” Rich Juzwiak, author of the pop-culture FourFour blog, explained. “I have mixed feelings about the conflation of activism and marketing inherent in a piece of commerce like ‘Born This Way,’ but ultimately, I think Gaga’s heart is in the right place. It’s pretty bold of her, while at the same time being utterly beneficial to her career and exposure.” Logo/NewNowNext.com editor John Polly noted that the song has all the right elements to be adopted as the anthem for 2011. “Its big, it’s loud, it’s fun!” he said. “It sounds like someone mashed up a zillion mirrors in a drag queen’s closet and then shot it out of a sequin cannon … subtle! Subtle! “This one has more [gay anthem elements] than most,” he continued. “It calls out every color of the rainbow, like specifically, vocally. Everything’s in there. It’s got it all and it’s got a beat. It’s familiar, but it’s new. It’s Gaga. She’s got something in there for everyone, so hopefully people are into it … I think you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck, a lot of big gay noise that’s going on.” Gabe Liedman, comedian and pop-culture expert, described the track as “perfect” and admits that Gaga has it locked up, that is until she releases her next track off the May album of the same name. “I mean, she didn’t waste any time with poetry,” he teased. “She kind of got right to the point. It’s not subtle. There’s no misinterpreting it. That’s what she thinks: You’re born this way, born this gay! “I think this will be the gay anthem for as long as it takes before her next song comes out,” he joked. “And that will be the gay anthem and then anything that comes out after that. Anything she says, I think, will always be the gay anthem, until she dies?” Related Artists Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Shows A ‘New Direction,’ Says Perez Hilton

Gaga’s new single ‘is very much about the you and I, the collective us,’ maintains the gossip blogger. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ WireImage Lady Gaga’s little monsters will certainly have their paws up when they hear the singer’s latest dance-floor creation, “Born This Way,” which was released to radio and made available for purchase on Friday (February 11). The track, an over-the-top sonic spectacle of beats, synths and messages of empowerment, is the next step in Gaga’s ever-evolving career, at least according to one well-known media pundit. The pop star’s pal Perez Hilton explains how the track fits in when compared with Gaga’s other big lead singles — The Fame ‘s “Just Dance” and The Fame Monster ‘s “Bad Romance.” “I think just by reading the lyrics that ‘Born This Way’ is taking things in a new direction,” the gossip blogger recently shared with MTV News. “Whereas ‘Bad Romance’ and ‘Just Dance’ were great first-person [songs], ‘Born This Way’ is very much about the you and I, the collective us, the little monsters and the world.” Previously, Perez described the song as an anthem for Gaga’s fans. “I’m very perceptive of what people are saying, thinking, and so is Gaga, and perhaps one of the biggest critiques, just based on the lyrics, is that it’s a very gay song,” he explained about the title track off the singer’s next album, which is scheduled for a May release. “And you know what? It is a very gay song — unapologetically gay, in-your-face gay — but it’s also a universal song that can relate to everyone,” Hilton further explained. “To all of us outsiders, to all of us freaks, to all of us who feel different. And the music is undeniable. It sounds like a smash. It is a smash. It is one of the best songs of Gaga’s career.” Do you agree with Perez Hilton’s evaluation of “Born This Way”? Eminem, Dr. Dre Grammy Performance To Show Razor-Sharp Rap Skills

Hip-hop superstars’ previous shows have created video sets and packed a lyrical punch. By Mawuse Ziegbe Eminem Photo: Getty Images When Eminem hits the stage, he rarely goes it alone, having already lit up Grammy night with pop luminaries like Elton John and hip-hop upstarts like Drake. This year, he’s taking it back to his hip-hop roots by teaming up with longtime mentor and rap legend Dr. Dre , with additional assistance from Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine. Sunday’s performance promises to be a major hip-hop moment, as not only will Eminem rip the stage, but the set will mark Dre’s first live performance in more than 10 years (not counting his hysteria-inducing cameos at Shady and Jay-Z’s Home and Home Tour ). But what should fans expect from the Doc and Em’s first joint awards-show matchup in over a decade? Well, if we take cues from their onstage team-ups back in the day, we can expect the greats to school anyone who may have forgotten about their concert chemistry and serve up more of their renowned, top-flight lyricism. At the 1999 VMAs, a newbie Shady performed his debut smash “My Name Is” in a hoodie with “Role Model” splashed across the front in blinking lights. Midway through the track, Dre showed up to spar with Slim for the ethics-juggling hit “Guilty Conscience,” re-creating the bank-robbing scene from the track’s video. Then another chart-topping Dre prot

MTV News takes a look back on the long road to single’s release. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Derek Storm/ Splash News For Lady Gaga fans, the road to the release of “Born This Way” has been long. With teases for months now, Gaga’s dedicated Little Monsters finally get to hear the song, from her May release of the same name. Before you hit play and listen to the song on repeat, MTV News takes a look back at the months of anticipation for the release. Gaga first got the buzz started in September. While wearing a dress made entirely of meat, she got up onstage at the VMAs and not only announced the album title , but also sang a bit of the song for fans. Soon, details about the album were emerging, but little was known about the title track until January 1, when she announced that she would be releasing the song February 13 . Her longtime collaborator, RedOne, spoke to MTV News weeks later to reveal that the song is “so beautiful, and Gaga is very special to all of us — to the world.” Later that month, Gaga initially teased fans with a few lyrics from the song before giving up the full lyrics — revealing an anthem about equality for everyone , regardless of race, creed or sexuality. “It is a very gay song — unapologetically, gay-in-your-face gay — but it’s also a universal song that can relate to everyone,” pal Perez Hilton told MTV News . “To all of us outsiders, to all of us freaks, to all of us who feel different. And the music is undeniable. It sounds like a smash. It is a smash. It is one of the best songs of Gaga’s career.” As February 13 quickly approached, Gaga decided to treat her fans and release the track two days earlier than expected. She even shared the artwork for the track . By the time the song was released, Lady Gaga was gracing the cover of Vogue and sharing with her fans her process for writing the track. “I wrote [‘Born This Way’] in 10 f—ing minutes,” she explains in the article. “And it is a completely magical message song. And after I wrote it, the gates just opened, and the songs kept coming. It was like an immaculate conception.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga

Justin Bieber Vintage Video: Talking Ludacris, Drake On ‘Baby’ Set

Last year, Bieber denied any aspirations for a rap career. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber on the set of his video for “Baby” Photo: MTV News A year ago, almost to the day, MTV News ran an interview with Justin Bieber in which the teen star said he had no plans to do any rapping. Cut to a year later, and Bieber has really stepped up his rap game, between his verse on Sean Kingston’s “Won’t Stop” and his Shawty Mane MC alter ego . When we caught up with the star on the bowling-alley video set for “Baby” last year, Bieber still seemed kind of green to the whole process but remained completely poised throughout the shoot. He opened up about his MC pals, sharing how he got Ludacris to join him on the song, which turned out to be his breakout hit. “Well, [Ludacris and I] both live in Atlanta,” Bieber said. “I met him a year prior to this, and we figured it was a perfect collaboration for him, so we invited him out to do it.” When asked if Luda offered him any advice, Bieber said, “No. I mean, he’s a rapper; he doesn’t sing.” And he seemed adamantly opposed when we asked if he had any rapping plans: “No. Not at all. Nope.” These days, Bieber’s MC rolodex has expanded even more, but back then, he was still flexing his swagga muscle by getting fellow Canadian Drake onboard to make a cameo in the video. “He’s just one of my good buddies. He’s here to hang out,” Bieber said, noting that he couldn’t confirm who else might appear on his not-yet-released My World 2.0. “You’ll have to see when it comes out in March.” On Friday, Justin Bieber’s 3-D documentary, “Never Say Never,” opens. The film takes a look at how the teen star worked to hit it big. MTV News has been chatting with him along the way, from the time he first burst on the scene in 2009 until now, as he embarks on a huge 2011 that will include a tour and more new music.
