Did Joe Jonas Agree to Do Hot in Cleveland on the Strength of Betty White’s Justin Bieber Joke?

During its first season, TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland has enjoyed the confines of old conventions — multicamera format, hammy dialogue, and three archetypal ladies as leads. But after watching a preview video of guest-star Joe Jonas playing Melanie’s (Valerie Bertinelli) son Will, I have to wonder: Did that singing superstar sign on because Betty White makes a decidedly current jab at Jonas peer Justin Bieber?

Joe Jonas Gushes About Filming ‘Hot In Cleveland’ Cameo With Betty White

‘Watching Betty White knit is just so adorable,’ he tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Joe Jonas Photo: MTV News Somewhere in between preparing for and launching the current Jonas Brothers tour and starring in Disney’s “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” Joe Jonas found the time to do a guest spot on TV Land’s new hit, “Hot in Cleveland.” MTV News was invited to visit the set recently to catch a glimpse of the middle Jonas in action. In the episode, which airs Wednesday night (August 11), Jonas’ character comes to visit his newly transplanted mom, played by Valerie Bertinelli. In the scene we watched, mother and son sit down to reconnect at a restaurant, and Jonas plays the “typical aloof teen” to a T — he is texting friends throughout the conversation, despite his mom’s attempts to capture his attention. When we caught up with the 20-year-old between takes, Jonas said despite having prior sitcom work in his own TV series “JONAS” on the Disney Channel, work on the “Cleveland” set was a completely new experience. “We don’t have a live audience,” he said of the major difference. “And I’m hanging out with some amazing actresses. They are just incredible. Everyone on the set is just so talented. I’m playing Valerie’s son, and I’m having a lot of fun. We rehearsed, and we just shot our first scene together, so hopefully it will look all right.” Asked if TV veteran Bertinelli or co-stars Wendy Malick, Jane Leeves and Betty White had imparted any advice, Jonas said he was just trying to soak up everything from the actresses. “Just being around them, they are so talented that you just learn so much from them so quickly,” he said. “And hanging out with them and watching Betty White knit is just so adorable, so I’m having a great time.” Speaking of White, we threw Jonas a curveball by asking: If Joe could be any Golden Girl, which one would he be? “Betty, of course. Rose, yes,” he said. “It’s kinda an odd question to ask which Golden Girl I would be, but my favorite would just have to be Betty, because I know her now.” Will you check out Joe Jonas’ guest-starring role on “Hot in Cleveland”? Joe Jonas Says He’s ‘Working On Lots Of Music’

‘I’ve heard it,’ brother Nick says of Joe’s solo material. ‘It’s awesome.’ By Jocelyn Vena Joe Jonas Photo: MTV News While his brother Nick released a solo album earlier this year under his side project Nick Jonas and the Administration , Joe Jonas says he has no formal plans to go solo himself. But the middle Jonas, who made a cameo this week on TV Land’s “Hot in Cleveland,” admits he is working on some new music . “I didn’t say that,” he laughed when MTV News asked about a solo LP. “I said I’ve been working on lots of music. I’ve been working [with] lots of musicians having a great time.” While he wouldn’t get specific about what it is he’s working on, or whom he’s working on it with, Joe did add, “[I have] been writing with a lot of friends of mine and some artists here and there, and we’ll see what comes out it.” So, in the event that he does release some independent work, will he borrow Nick’s band name? “I leave the Administration stuff to Nick,” he quipped. Whatever he decides, it seems he’s got the full support of his bros. “I’ve heard it. It’s awesome,” Nick said, before Kevin chimed in, “It’s really good music.” With both Nick and Joe making strides to pursue their own endeavors apart from the band, we wondered, what has big brother Kevin been up to? “I’ve just been really enjoying the first year of marriage,” he explained. “So far, there’s a couple things in the pipeline for me and, I don’t know. There’s a lot going on and I just want to explore every option.” What would you like to see the JoBros do next? Tell us in the comments! Kevin Jonas Takes Fans Backstage At Jonas Brothers Tour

Oldest JoBro shows off the brothers’ entertainment center, dressing rooms and chill spot. By Jocelyn Vena Kevin Jonas on tour in Chicago Photo: MTV News Kevin Jonas and his brothers , Nick and Joe, are currently on tour with Demi Lovato and their “Camp Rock 2” pals , and while life on the road can be difficult at times, the guys have managed to bring along some of the comforts of home. When MTV News caught up with the brothers at their tour kickoff in Tinley Park, Illinois, we were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the guys’ home away from home. First up was the entertainment center. “We roll with this everywhere,” explained Kevin, with wife Danielle by his side. “We first built this on the ‘Hannah Montana’ tour. We were there, and we wanted something to be able to watch TV and stuff, and so they built this road case. It’s got gaming systems and everything.” Their dressing room has two closets: one shared by Nick and Joe, and one shared by Kevin and Danielle. “[This is] wardrobe. It’s kind of intense,” Kevin said of the two dressing areas. “Me and Dani, [ours] is over here. So we’ll travel and these cases come with us, and it has all our clothes in it, which was really nice. It allows us to not have to lug big suitcases everywhere we go.” Their dressing room wouldn’t be compete without a seating area that includes a very comfy, oversize couch, where Riley — Kevin and Danielle’s dog — likes to hang out. “This is where we chill and we just relax and spread our wings,” the oldest JoBro said. “This is our little friend, Riley. She’s our little girl. She kind of runs the place. She’s kind of become our mascot for our Road Dogs games . … She gets the job done.” What do you think of the Jonas Brothers’ home away from home? Justin Bieber Should ‘Have Fun’ With 3-D Movie, Jonas Brothers Say

‘The camera work is really crazy,’ Joe Jonas says. ‘But I’m sure he’ll handle it well.’ By Jocelyn Vena The Jonas Brothers Photo: MTV News Next year, Justin Bieber fans will have the chance to see the singer’s story retold on the big screen in a 3-D movie currently in the works. But Bieber won’t be the first teen pop star to land in theaters in multiple dimensions. He joins the likes of Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, both of whom have already had their live performances delivered to fans in 3-D. And while a director still needs to be chosen for the flick, the JoBros had some advice for Bieber as he prepares to shoot. “Have fun. It’s a really fun experience,” Joe told MTV News last week at their Road Dogs baseball game in Joliet, Illinois, just before the brothers kicked off their tour. “The camera work is all really crazy, but I’m sure he’ll handle it all really well.” Since they had so much fun the first time around, does that mean there could be a sequel to the “Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience” ? “Maybe,” Joe said. “For right now, I think we’re just going to be streaming live throughout the summer. We want people to come see the show, but right now we’re just really focused on this live show. That’s where we’re at right now, and we’re just getting ready for the first opening night tomorrow night,” he told us last Friday. If the guys ever do decide to make another concert flick, their current tour would be the perfect draw. The JoBros just hit the road for a lengthy tour that features not only pal Demi Lovato, but also a number of their “Camp Rock 2” pals. Plus, there’ll be lots of Jonas music. “We are doing a Jonas Brothers set, and it’s actually a lot,” Kevin said about the tour, which kicked off in Chicago on Saturday. Kevin teased that fans will be treated to some oldies but goodies. “We’re playing a lot of Jonas Brothers songs, and we’re integrating ‘Camp Rock’ and ‘JONAS L.A.’ songs [and] songs from our past. We’re really excited.” Which songs do you hope the JoBros will include in their set list? Tell us in the comments! ‘Camp Rock 2’ track ‘Wouldn’t Change a Thing’ is about opposites trying to make their relationship work. By Jocelyn Vena Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ WireImage In less than a month the “Camp Rock 2” soundtrack will be released, but fans are already getting a taste of what they can expect from it. In a new track leaked online, “Wouldn’t Change a Thing,” Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas sing about two people who, despite being opposites, try to make their relationship work, even if it feels at times like it won’t. In the chorus, the duo sing , “Like fire and rain/ You can drive me insane/ But I can’t stay mad at you for anything/ We’re like Venus and Mars/ We’re like different stars.” Later on in the song they sing, “We’re perfectly imperfect/ But I wouldn’t change a thing.” In an interview on Radio Disney earlier this year, Demi said, “[‘Wouldn’t Change a Thing’] is close to my heart. It’s probably one of my favorite parts of the movie.” “Camp Rock 2” will premiere on September 3 on the Disney Channel. The soundtrack, which features the new song, will be out on August 10. While some dates on their upcoming tour have been rescheduled, with the “Camp Rock 2” tour now kicking off August 7 at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Illinois, the pair will hit the road this summer for the rest of the Jonas Brothers’ headlining trek. And despite the fact that Joe and Demi broke up in May, Lovato insists she will hold her own with the guys. “I always hold my own, get it straight!” she joked. “I’m just kidding! It’ll be fun. I’m excited. I’m representing.” And while “Wouldn’t Change a Thing” may make the set list, the guys say fans should brace themselves for a full-on JoBros tour. “It’s a Jonas Brothers tour, as usual. We just thought it’d be great to integrate [other] musical outlets as well,” Kevin said. “We thought it was a great way for our opening acts to have a place in the show as well. It’s gonna be fun, ’cause we know everybody. We’ve been doing a movie together for a while.” What do you think of Joe and Demi’s new tune? Does it make you excited for “Camp Rock 2”? From Lady Gaga To Chris Brown, Top Larry King Moments

T.I., the Jonas Brothers, Snoop Dogg helped legendary host maintain his pop culture credentials. By Kyle Anderson Chris Brown on “Larry King Live” Photo: CNN After 25 years on one of the most venerable and popular talk shows on television, Larry King is stepping down as the host of “Larry King Live.” The 76-year-old King announced on Tuesday that his run as cable’s premiere prime-time interrogator will come to a close sometime this fall. “I’m incredibly proud that we recently made the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ for having the longest-running show with the same host in the same time slot,” King wrote on his blog. “With this chapter closing I’m looking forward to the future and what my next chapter will bring, but for now it’s time to hang up my nightly suspenders.” Though his advanced age has made him the butt of more than a few jokes in recent years, King’s pop culture credentials have actually been pretty strong lately. Though his show is typically devoted to politicians, newsmakers, activists and victims of heinous crimes, he has spent more and more time chatting with a new generation of pop stars and artists. In the process, he has turned “Larry King Live” into its own headline-grabbing broadcast, bringing a handful of artists out of their respective shells. Take a look at the five most notable exchanges that King has had with the current generation of pop stars for proof. Chris Brown In a history-making piece of television, Chris Brown sat down for an interview on “Larry King Live” back in September 2009. It represented his first public comments since his arrest for assaulting then girlfriend Rihanna the previous February. Flanked by his mother and his lawyer and dressed in a blue bow tie, Brown was quiet and somewhat evasive but remorseful during the hour-long sit-down. “I made a mistake and that’s just something I have to live up to and own up to,” Brown told King. “And change and become a better person.” Lady Gaga King’s most recent brush with the pop world was an interview he conducted via satellite with Lady Gaga , who not only talked about her upcoming music, her role in the gay community and her struggles with lupus, but who also unveiled a preview of her new video for “Alejandro.” T.I. Fresh out of jail, Clifford “T.I.” Harris sat across the desk from King back in May for a surprisingly hard-hitting conversation about his year behind bars and the crime that put him there. Tip was candid about everything. “In having time to sit and reflect, if you take the time and use it to your advantage, you see [that] even though all those rounds were fired that night, you didn’t have a firearm and you’re still here,” he told King. The Jonas Brothers While they weren’t discussing their time in prison, their role in the gay community or domestic disputes, the Jonas Brothers’ appearance on King’s show in June 2009 was no less noteworthy. When King pressed the boys to discuss their love lives, Joe mentioned that his then flame (actress Camilla Belle) was not as public as Nick’s girlfriend. “I don’t think anybody is as famous as Miley Cyrus,” he said, confirming rumors that had been flying around for a while. Snoop Dogg While Snoop Dogg’s appearance on King’s show didn’t reveal any hard-hitting facts, it did give King the opportunity to roll with the Dogg. Back in March, the pair hopped into Snoop’s 1967 Pontiac Parisienne, for a ride during which Snoop showed off the GPS that featured his own voice and taught King all about low ridin’.
