Ray J: Almost Booted Out of Billboard Music Awards By Whitney Houston’s Family!

Ray J was almost physically removed from the Billboard Music Awards last night after an angry confrontation with Whitney Houston’s family members. Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law/manager, was seated next to Ray J, the person Pat believes was a very bad influence on the late music legend. Minutes before a tribute to Whitney, in which Jordin Sparks sang and Bobbi Kristina Brown accepted an award, Pat asked her security to nix Ray J. After Whitney’s ex-BF refused to budge, Pat’s security summoned hotel security, along with several uniformed officers to physically remove Ray . Just before it got ugly, security warned Pat that things would likely get physical and it would almost be caught on video, just as Whitney was to be honored. Sources say Pat then grudgingly recanted and Ray J stayed. Later, Ray reportedly complained to friends about the incident, saying “Pat ruined what was a great opportunity to honor the woman who I loved.” A rep for the Houston family later admitted they did ask Ray J to be moved from his seat because Billboard told them they needed that particular seat. Ray J had a ticket with the proper seat number, so he refused to budge, and security was called, but the Houstons deny any lingering feud with Ray. In related news (not really), Kim Kardashian is the hottest woman in the world , according to Zoo Weekly . She can thank Ray for that glorious title. [Photo: WENN.com]

Chris Brown Performs at Billboard Music Awards; Fans Divided Over Obvious Lip-Syncing

Chris Brown brought his BMX skills to the Billboard Music Awards Sunday. His vocal skills? Mmmnot so much, from the looks of the performance. The singer rode onstage in Las Vegas to perform his high-energy hit “Turn Up the Music” against a colorful, bike ramp backdrop dubbed the “Fun Zone.” Breezy’s leopard fur-lined jacket (open to show off his muscular, tattooed chest, obvi) and impressive dance moves wowed the crowd, but his singing? Chris Brown – “Turn Up The Music” (Billboard Music Awards 2012) Fans on Twitter were disappointed, at least in part, for Chris’ lip-syncing. Some viewers tweeted sentiments like, “What’s the point of performing live if you’re gonna lip sync? You should just become a back up dancer.” “I don’t mind Chris Brown lip synching… at least he PERFORMS !!!” wrote one fan in defense of Chris. “CB performance never disappoints.” The event, which also featured Justin Bieber’s performance and Jordin Sparks’ tribute to Whitney Houston, certainly featured the big names. What do you think of Chris’ performance? Thumbs up or down?

Billboard Music Awards Remember Whitney Houston, Robin Gibb

Show also pays tribute to late legends Adam Yauch and Donna Summer. By Jocelyn Vena Jordin Sparks performs “I Will Always Love You” at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images While the Billboard Music Awards were full of upbeat moments, thanks to highly charged performances from Justin Bieber , Katy Perry and more chart-toppers, the show also was somber at times, paying tribute to some of the music industry’s brightest stars who died in the months before Sunday’s (May 20) broadcast. While Whitney Houston had the glitziest of the tributes, other late legends from all musical genres also mourned at the show. Right before the broadcast, the tragic news of Bee Gee Robin Gibb’s death broke. The pop star died at the age of 62 after a lengthy battle with cancer. While his tribute was short, it was also very sweet, with “Modern Family” star and host Julie Bowen saying, “His voice and the music of the Bee Gees will live on forever.” Just two days before Gibb passed, the Queen of Disco, Houston’s untimely death in February , comedian Whoopi Goldberg said in her introduction, “I adored Whitney Houston. What all performers want and need and should get is love, and many of us here loved Whitney, and even if you’re one of those who didn’t show the love to Whitney, now is your chance, because tonight, that’s what we’re doing: We’re going to be giving Whitney the greatest love of all.” Then, John Legend sat at his piano to perform Houston emotional, uplifting ballad, “Greatest Love of All.” Jordin Sparks — Houston’s co-star in her final film, “Sparkle” — handled Houston’s legend-making “I Will Always Love You.” Dressed in a flowing blue and black gown, the singer belted out the track, while Whitney’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, sat in the audience crying. As the song wrapped, Whitney’s sister-in-law Pat Houston and daughter accepted the Millennium Award in her honor. “This is truly an honor. We thank you, Billboard ; we thank you, Whoopi, Jordin; we love you, John. But tonight, the one person that should be accepting this award is the one person that Whitney loved most.” “I just really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all,” Bobbi Kristina added. “Thank you so much for showing that much love, ’cause she deserved it. There will never be another one, ever. I thank you so much.” The outpouring of love and emotion didn’t end there. Adam Yauch, MCA from the Beastie Boys , who died May 4 from his own battle with cancer , also was remembered. Top New Artist winner Wiz Khalifa said during his acceptance speech that the Beasties took hip-hop to new levels. “I just want to thank the Beastie Boys, and we will never forget MCA.” Later on, Cee Lo Green and Goodie Mobb may have been there to perform their own track, “Fight to Win,” but afterward, Cee Lo told the room to get their asses up for their own spirited homage to MCA with “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party).” Share your condolences for the four late musical legends in the comments below. Jessica Sanchez’s Almost Elimination: Other ‘American Idol’ Shockers

Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry were booted from ‘Idol’ earlier than anyone expected. By Gil Kaufman Jessica Sanchez with Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Ryan Seacrest on “American Idol” Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images America, you only have yourself to blame. In a pattern repeated for the past few seasons, “American Idol” viewers seem to get a little lazy this time of year and suddenly forget to vote for their favorites, putting one of the potential winners in jeopardy. Case in point: preternaturally talented teen diva Jessica Sanchez. Even after killing it on Wednesday night (again)
, Bebe Chez very nearly got sent home in seventh place Thursday night in one of the most shocking near-eliminations in recent history. The judges didn’t even have to hear her sing before they jumped up to save the singer
, but she came thisclose to becoming the latest super-talent to wash out of “Idol” way before her time. The “Idol” save has a checkered history. Sometimes it’s been pulled out for singers whose talents (and commercial prospects) were decent at best (Michael Lynche) or annoying at worst (Casey Abrams). In fact, of the four saves in “Idol” history, the only one that truly made sense was season eight’s piano-playing Matt Giraud, who only made it one more week before being sent home. With only two weeks left before their save would have timed out, Randy, Jennifer and Steven pulled out the lifeline for the one remaining contestant who truly deserves it, if only for the fact that Sanchez could break the string of wins by bland white male singers who’ve met with solid to dismal chart success over the past four seasons. If Sanchez had gotten the boot, she would have joined a fairly illustrious group of singers who were gone too soon. Among them: Jennifer Hudson : Success is the best revenge, and when Hudson was inexplicably sent home in seventh place during season three who knew she’d go on to be the first Oscar winner in “Idol” history and a musical powerhouse? Um, we did. Chris Daughtry : The second-most shocking elimination in “Idol” history has to be bald-headed steak-and-potatoes rocker Chris Daughtry. He went out in fourth place in season five, which was won by … Taylor Hicks. Yeah, that guy. After declining to take the lead singer gig in Fuel, Daughtry went on to multiplatinum success and a spot as the third best-selling “Idol” alum of all time. Melinda Doolittle: If you watched season six of “Idol” then you likely remember the powerhouse vocalist that ex-lead judge Simon Cowell dubbed “incredible.” But, somehow, Melinda got the hook in the week before the finale , beat out by Blake Lewis. You know, the beatboxing faux-hawk wearing dude who lost to Jordin Sparks? Exactly. Do you think the judges made the right call by saving Jessica? Let us know in comments below! ‘American Idol’ Judges Call Competition ‘A Toss-Up’

In the wake of Jessica Sanchez’s near-exit, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler say season 11 is anyone’s to win. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Kelly Marino Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler Photo: MTV News After “American Idol” voters tried their hardest to send presumptive front-runner Jessica Sanchez packing on Thursday night’s shocking results show — only to have their plan foiled by the judges, who promptly used their save to keep her in the competition — the deck has been re-shuffled, and it appears that this season really is anyone’s to win. Following Sanchez’s near-exit, two of those “Idol” judges spoke to MTV News, and they weren’t shy about letting their opinions be known. Simply put, they were as surprised as everyone to hear Sanchez’s name called. “I think [America] thought she was safe,” Randy Jackson said of Sanchez. “I think they thought she was safe … and I think they thought [fellow bottom-three dweller] Joshua [Ledet] was safe, because those two alone … have been the most consistent. So, you know, yeah, I think they just forgot.” “There’s just so many different singers out there. That’s why it’s hard for me now,” Steven Tyler added. “I like to let America judge. Tonight they were wrong.” More than likely, they were. But the inclusion of Sanchez in the bottom three raises a larger question about the show: Is it possible for anyone other than a guy to actually win anymore? The previous four champions — David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze and Scotty McCreery — have all been proud possessors of the Y chromosome, and a male contestant has won in five of the previous six seasons. (Jordin Sparks was the last female to be crowned champion, way back in 2007.) And now, with Thursday night’s shake-up — and the rise of Colton Dixon and Phillip Phillips — it appears that history may repeat itself once again. Not surprisingly, though, neither Jackson nor Tyler seems to see it that way. “I don’t know, it’s a toss-up right now,” Jackson said. “I think it’ll be a person. ” “You gotta wait and see,” Tyler added. Of course, Jackson was also quick to admit that both Dixon and Phillips are strong contenders for the season 11 crown (which is probably why “Idol” mentor Jimmy Iovine spent so much time this week trying to pit them against each other ), and he saved a particular bit of praise for Phillips and his, uh, unique approach to the competition. “He’s his own guy, that’s what I love about him. He’s an individual, Steven’s an individual; that’s what a real artist is made of,” Jackson said. “An artist is not usually a follower; you want to be your own person. So I love that about him. I don’t know if it’s going to hurt him, but somebody’s gotta go every week now. It’s gonna be rough.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Related Photos ‘American Idol’ Season 11 Performances

Whitney Houston’s ‘Sparkle’ Trailer Debuts

We finally get a glimpse of singer/actress’ final performance. By Fallon Prinzivalli Whitney Houston in “Sparkle” Photo: Sony Pictures The trailer for Whitney Houston ‘s “Sparkle” debuted Monday (April 2), giving fans a sneak peek at the singer/actress’ final performance. The first glimpse of Houston in the trailer shows her character, Emma, dancing to the Motown music her daughters are playing in the living room, sung by one Cee Lo Green. Houston jokes, “Yeah, y’all like that, huh? Makes you want to dance, huh? I’m going to get it and you will too. Keep dancing like that, you’ll bring home some kid you can’t feed.” The humor continues as her daughters jump into bed together to hide from Emma after arriving home after their curfew. “My babies,” she says. “I know y’all don’t love each other that much.” As the trailer progresses, the comedy dims and the weight of fame takes its toll. On the precipice of getting a record deal, Emma is hesitant to let her daughters pursue music as a career. She says, “Was my life not enough of a cautionary tale for you?” And while the sisters cope with the spotlight, one deals with an abusive marriage that may force her to abandon her dream. The trailer shows a preview of a performance that will leave fans amazed, while at the same time feeling the great loss the music industry suffered with Houston’s death. Co-star Derek Luke shared his thoughts on Houston’s last performance when MTV News spoke to him at the Independent Spirit Awards. “The beautiful thing about being in ‘Sparkle’ is that we had something that was recorded that I can hold onto, and in that time, me and my wife and Whitney … the other cast, we really bonded,” he said of working with the star. “Whitney did an amazing job, so I can’t wait for people to see it and there’s no great way to go out, but what a performance she had.” The movie centers on three talented sisters who deal with the struggles of fame after they form a musical group. Houston not only starred in the remake of the 1976 Irene Cara film, but was executive producer as well. “It was definitely her baby,” Jordin Sparks told Entertainment Weekly about Houston’s role in “Sparkle.” Sparks stars as Sparkle Williams, the title role. “Even before she passed I wanted to be able to represent this movie in a way that would honor her and respect her, because she worked so hard on it. With her passing, it’s definitely been a lot more pressure.” From the looks of the trailer, she has nothing to be nervous about. We think Whitney Houston would’ve been very proud. “Sparkle” is scheduled to hit theaters on August 17.
