O’Donnell In 2006: Homosexuality ‘An Identity Disorder’

Here's another goodie from Christine O'Donnell, the conservative activist who has asked voters to look past her previous right-wing statements on sex: As recently as 2006 — the first time she ran for Senate, losing the Republican primary — she declared that homosexuality was an identity disorder. As Greg Sargent reports, O'Donnell said in an interview for the Wilmington News Journal in 2006 that homosexuality was a disorder. Greg has obtained the original quote from the reporter's notes: “People are created in God's image. Homosexuality is an identity adopted through societal factors. It's an identity disorder.” The TPM Poll Average gives Democratic nominee Chris Coons a lead of 52.2. added by: TimALoftis

Justin Bieber Sings For Fans At Hooters In Canada

Singer makes a surprise appearance at a mall in Edmonton. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber (file) Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Justin Bieber is living the life. The 16-year-old superstar was spotted and photographed with a bevy of Hooters waitresses after he stopped by the restaurant’s local outpost at the West Edmonton Mall in Canada on Saturday, the Edmonton Sun reports. He was in town for a stop on his My World tour . Not only did Bieber and his entourage, including four of his backup dancers, stop by for a quick visit, he also serenaded everyone at the restaurant. One of the servers at the restaurant, Tania Biggar, explained, “We were talking about deep-fried pickles. Then they said they would sing to me for free deep-fried pickles. The manager said if they sang for the whole restaurant, he’d pay for their entire meal. They serenaded the girls. They were actually super-polite. They were just awesome people to serve. They weren’t demanding or anything like that.” The impromptu performance had fans in a frenzy. “Everybody that was sitting around them went over to talk to them. They told them they did an awesome job of singing,” she said. Biggar further explained that while the Hooters girls did get a photo with Bieber, they didn’t get much one-on-one time with him. “None of the [servers] really got to talk to him. He was surrounded by his fans,” she said. “That’s how we knew he was coming in — it was all 14-year-old girls. And they all kind of move as one.” YouTube footage of the Hooters visit shows Bieber, dressed in a black jacket and black hat, walking through crowds of people. Despite all the fans trying to catch a glimpse of the star, it seems things remained relatively more low-key than past Bieber mall appearances . The restaurant’s manager, Sonny Verma, confirmed the blink-and-you’ll-miss-him appearance of the “U Smile” singer to the Edmonton Journal . “We probably had a row six people deep and 10 people long at the window. It was pretty cool,” he said. “I was told about 10, 15 minutes he came in here. It was really quick. He came in, took a quick picture and took off.” Related Artists Justin Bieber

Marc Ambinder: ‘Media Is Going to Help the Democratic Party’s National Messaging’

In a September 15 post-primary item at the Atlantic (“An Epic End to the Primaries: What It Means”), politics editor Marc Ambinder presented seven “different ways to look at the primaries of September 14, 2010.” His final item reads as follows (bold is mine): 7. The media is going to help the Democratic Party’s national messaging, which is that the GOP is a party full of Christine O’Donnells, a party that wants to take away your Social Security and your right to masturbate. Well, maybe not that last part, but then again, the implicit message of the party is that the GOP is about to elect a slate of hard social rightists to Congress. The bolded text is an obvious point to anyone with even the most rudimentary powers of observation, but it’s a pretty interesting admission nonetheless. That’s especially true because Ambinder is a bona fide member of the media. Indeed, he’s a  self-admitted Journolist member who despite (or perhaps because) of that involvement has a specific assignment involving covering this fall’s elections. On August 27, CBS announced its 2010 campaign coverage team. Marc Ambinder is on that team (HT Media Bistro ): Chief Political Consultant Marc Ambinder and Political Analyst and Contributor John Dickerson will join a veteran group led by CBS EVENING NEWS Anchor and Managing Editor Katie Couric that includes Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer, Senior Political Correspondent Jeff Greenfield and Correspondents Wyatt Andrews, Sharyl Attkisson, Jan Crawford, Nancy Cordes, Byron Pitts, Bill Plante, Chip Reid, Dean Reynolds and Political Analyst Dan Bartlett. Anthony Mason will once again help break down and analyze election night results for CBS’s viewers. “This already is one of the most-anticipated midterm elections in a generation, and CBS News is adding exceptional talent to offer our audiences comprehensive coverage in a complex and exciting political environment,” said McManus. “Complementing the award-winning tradition of CBS News with the latest technology, our remarkable team will completely cover all aspects of this pivotal election season.” Other items in Ambinder’s seven-pointer at the Atlantic give further clues as to where he stands: 3. I understand why some Republicans are trying to point out that Democrats are “crazy” too by noting how they re-nominated Rep. Charles Rangel in NY 15 and kicked out reformist mayor Adrian Fenty in Washington. That dog won’t hunt. 6. Expect an uptick in Democratic enthusiasm and expect several significant races to tighten. People tend to make judgments through the lens of the last major event. If Democrats interpret last night to mean that radical Republicans are threatening to take control, they’re going to be more receptive to the basic party message. Of course Ambinder’s entitled to his opinions, but facts on the ground appear to be contradicting them: As to his Point 3, the voters in Rangel’s district may or may not be crazy, but at least you can say that 49% of those who cast ballots voted for someone else . If you want evidence of Democratic “craziness,” how about the fact that Rangel got “endorsements and phone calls to voters” from former president Bill Clinton and pretend-Independent Mike Bloomberg? As to Point 6, maybe an enthusiasm uptick is on the way, but it’s missing so far. Two separate items from the Associated Press, which would surely jump on any hint of the real thing happening, demonstrate that it’s not here yet. The AP’s Mark S. Smith, in a report on President Obama’s Saturday speech to the Congressional Black Caucus, specifically cited “polls showing his party facing a wide ‘enthusiasm gap’ with the GOP,” and pollsters’ warnings “that blacks are among the key Democratic groups who right now seem unlikely to turn out in large numbers in November.” In a Sunday morning submission, the AP’s Julie Hirschfeld Davis noted that “in dozens of competitive districts … enthusiasm for the president is at a low; even some of his strongest backers aren’t motivated to go to the polls.” As if anyone needed further reinforcement, here is a passage from a year-ago post by Jeff Poor at NewsBusters addressing Ambinder’s opinion of Sarah Palin’s qualifications to express an opinion about ObamaCare’s “comparative effectiveness” regime (which was actually enshrined into law as part of the February 2009 stimulus bill nobody read), aka “Death Panels,” in a Wall Street Journal op-ed: One left-leaning pundit has questioned if Palin was qualified to interject herself into the debate. Marc Ambinder wrote on the Atlantic Web site on Sept. 8 (that) the media shouldn’t take her Journal op-ed seriously because she doesn’t have the policy “chops” to take on this issue. “Palin has policy credibility problems. Big ones,” Ambinder wrote. “A few op-eds aren’t going to help her. But if the media treats her as as [sic] a legitimate and influential voice today, she won’t need to do the hard work that will result in her learning more about policy and actually becoming conversant in the issues that she, as a potential presidential candidate, will deal with.” However, the argument could made that Palin, with a baby with Down Syndrome, does have real-life expertise dealing with the American health care system. And her position as governor of Alaska makes her qualified to give insight into the bureaucratization of any part of the public sector, despite Ambinder’s calls to dismiss her as a serious voice in the health care debate. That was a great final point by Jeff. Apparently in Ambinder’s world, personal experience with medical challenges and dealing with the medical care delivery system don’t count. Ah, but serving in policy roles that lead to ghoulish ideas like Zeke the Bleak Emanuel’s “complete lives system,” whose priorities for allocating care include “youngest-first, prognosis, save the most lives, lottery, and instrumental value” (i.e., a death panels regime) — that’s great stuff. Ambinder is indeed correct in his assertion that “The media is going to help the Democratic Party’s national messaging.” It appears pretty likely that he’ll be serving as a willing provider of such assistance, and that his ability to deliver objective commentary as a CBS “Chief Political Consultant” is highly suspect. The presence of folks like Ambinder at CBS goes a long way towards explaining why it seems likely that most viewers will be getting their election news somewhere else during the next seven weeks. T.I. Allegedly Had Codeine, Ecstasy, Marijuana During L.A. Arrest

Judge orders rapper to appear in court to explain why probation should not be revoked. By James Montgomery T.I. Photo: Moses Robinson/ WireImage When T.I. and wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle were arrested in Los Angeles earlier this month, police originally charged them with possession of a controlled substance — a substance which would later be revealed to be Ecstasy . But according to new documents, that might not have been the only drug in their possession. The charges could send T.I. back to prison. According to documents obtained by E! Online late Thursday, T.I.’s probation officer reported that L.A. County Sherriff’s deputies also found codeine and marijuana in his possession during the arrest. In the initial report filed after the couple’s September 1 arrest, deputies said they pulled over their Maybach and then “smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.” The documents were filed as part of a summons issued on Thursday by U.S. District Judge Charles Pannel Jr., requiring T.I. to appear before the court to explain why his probation should not be revoked after the L.A. incident, the the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. The judge’s order lists three possible violations of his probation: possession of Ecstasy, testing positive for opiates and associating with a convicted felon. After T.I.’s arrest, TMZ posted photos of the Maybach that showed several Styrofoam cups in the cup holders. The Web site alleged that the cups contained sizzurp — a.k.a. codeine syrup. MTV News’ phone calls and an e-mail sent to a spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Correction — which handles probation supervision — were not responded to by press time. A message left for T.I. lawyer Don Samuel was also not returned, though in the days following the rapper’s arrest, Samuel told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that he was uncertain how the arrest would effect his client’s probation, saying “without knowing all the facts, it’s premature to speculate what the court is likely to do.” The summons does not set a date for T.I. to appear before the court. Palin and the Left’s Status-Anxiety

The left’s obsession with Sarah Palin is one of the most interesting political and social phenomena of our time. The degree and volume of venom directed at her staggers the imagination. It is unprecedented in recent times especially for someone who does not currently hold office. Leftists try to rationalize the hatred by claiming that Palin is an extremist, but that is easily disproved by comparing where she stands on various issues versus how many Americans hold the same views. Moreover, if she truly were an extremist, she wouldn’t be a threat because she would have no electoral base. No, the best explanation for the left’s bizarre Palin obsession is status-anxiety. Status-anxiety occurs when a person believes that their position in a real or imagined social hierarchy is threatened. Leftists react emotionally to Palin because of the threat she poses to their own individual sense of status. All their other arguments are just put forth to rationalize that emotional reaction. In short, it is not the ideas she puts forth, its that someone like her is significant at all. Leftism at its heart holds that a small percentage of humans have a vastly superior understanding of everything compared to ordinary people. The point of leftism is to empower these superior individuals to impose their superior understanding upon society by the force of the state. Leftists must be viewed by themselves and others as superior human beings if they are to have a claim to power and status. On this basis Palin is a nightmare: She went to a state college. She lives in the “backwoods”. She likes hunting, fishing and sports. She likes country music and representational art. She doesn’t have the right accent. She doesn’t dress appropriately. She’s a Pentecostal instead of atheist, Unitarian, Episcopalian, etc. Palin’s success stabs them in the heart of their anxiety. If Palin can be a successful political leader, what does that say about the leftists’ claims of intellectual and moral superiority? If people don’t just instantly assume that leftists are smarter and better than everyone else, why would people trust a leftist government to make so many decisions about the people’s live, e.g., medical care? That is why leftists see Palin as a genuine and significant threat of unusual magnitude. In the emotional thinking of leftists, she is a personal threat to everything each individual leftist has attained in life. They feel a sincere, visceral sense of danger about her because she attacks the very core of their egos. They feel the same hatred towards Palin that the European upper classes felt towards the upstart middle-class. They feel the same hatred that poor whites felt towards non-whites. They feel that way for the same reasons. If she succeeds, worse, if she is right, then they become nobodies. As long as she is viewed as a significant political figure, the left’s obsession with Palin will never wane because it does not spring from rational roots. She threatens something too deep and too profound in a political subculture built around the belief that a small percentage of human beings have a vastly superior understanding of the world compared to all the rest. http://chicagoboyz.net/archives/15616.html http://www.nicolasminacapelli.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/GlennRally_Sar… added by: ibrake4rappers13

T.I. Lawyers Unsure How Arrest Will Affect Probation

Federal probation office ‘is in the process of determining what happened,’ according to reports. By Mawuse Ziegbe T.I. Photo: Moses Robinson/ Getty Images With another album heading down the pike, a hit movie in theaters and a new bride on his arm , T.I.’s post-jail future was looking very bright. However, in the wake of his Wednesday night arrest for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, the MC’s lawyers said they are not sure whether the ATL rapper will head back to prison. “T.I. is going to be back on his way to Atlanta in the next 24 hours,” Don Samuel, one of T.I.’s lawyers, told the Atlanta Journal Constitution on Thursday (September 2). “It’s almost certain he’ll end up appearing before the court here. But without knowing all the facts, it’s premature to speculate what the court is likely to do.” Another member of T.I.’s legal team, Dwight Thomas, echoed Samuel’s assertions and told The Associated Press that, “We don’t have a full grasp of the facts, circumstances. We don’t know the violation.” Thomas added, “I will remain optimistic until this matter is favorably resolved.” “We’re not making any observations at this time,” said T.I.’s defense attorney Ed Garland. “This is an unfortunate occurrence, and we do not know what the outcome will be.” T.I. and his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, were arrested Wednesday in Los Angeles after the Grammy-winning MC made an illegal U-turn. Officers searched the car and its passengers after smelling marijuana emanating from the vehicle. An unspecified number of pills “resembling ecstasy” were found and the couple were taken into custody. They were released early Thursday morning after posting $10,000 bail each. At press time, it was not clear whether the incident is a violation of T.I.’s (born Clifford Harris Jr.) three-year probation. The rapper has remained under supervised release after wrapping a prison stint for felony gun charges he picked up in 2007. U.S. Attorney Sally Yates told the AP that officials were still reviewing the situation. “The probation office is in the process of determining what happened and will make a recommendation regarding Mr. Harris when they have all the facts,” she said. A former United Nations Ambassador and high-profile T.I. advocate, Andrew Young, expressed concern upon hearing of the rapper’s latest brush with the law. “I assume that you’re innocent until you’re proven guilty,” Young told the AP. “If he was driving and smoking marijuana, that is absolutely stupid. But why was he pulled over in the first place? Because he had a Maybach? Because he was black? Because they know who he is and resent his success?” Young was one of many supporters present in Atlanta when T.I. was sentenced to one year and one day in 2009 for felony weapons charges. The length of the sentence was part of an exceptional plea deal that would have allowed the rapper the possibility to be released earlier for good behavior. T.I. ended up serving seven months before being transferred to a halfway house to ride the remainder of his sentence . After entering the halfway house in December, Tip had his full-term release this past March. The star is also obligated to complete approximately 400 hours of community service, meet with a probation officer regularly and obtain permission to travel. DNA testing, drug counseling and the agreement to submit to reasonable searches are also conditions of his probation. Related Photos T.I. And Tameka ‘Tiny’ Cottle Related Artists T.I.

Wisconsin Newspaper Does Puff Piece on Ayers-Like Domestic Terrorist

How does the Wisconsin State Journal remember the 40 year anniversary of a radical Ayers-like bombing on the UW-Madison campus?  By posting a little puff piece on one of the killers, of course. On August 24, 1970, Karleton Armstrong and three other men perpetrated the worst act of domestic terrorism prior to the Oklahoma City bombing, detonating a bomb-laden vehicle outside of Sterling Hall , causing extensive damage to 26 buildings, costing $2.1 million in property damage, injuring three, and killing graduate student Robert Fassnacht, a 33-year-old husband and father of three children. The contrast between an editorial published in the Journal 40 years ago, and the profile of the bombers published this past week, may serve as a case study in how the liberal media has transformed their coverage of domestic terrorists. Shortly after the attack, a Journal editorial ran hammering down their take on the matter.  According to the book, 50 Wisconsin Crimes of the Century , the Wisconsin State Journal called for officials to stop taking a neutral stance on student unrest: “They’ve been playing with murder for years.  Now they’ve achieved it…  The blood is on the hands of anyone who has encouraged them, anyone who has talked recklessly of ‘revolution’, anyone who has chided with mild disparagement the violence of extremists while hinting that the cause is right all the same.” Last week however, that same Wisconsin State Journal did a retrospective piece ( h/t Michelle Malkin ), profiling each of the bombers and how they were linked to such a tragic moment in history.  The profile on Karleton Armstrong strikes a surprisingly pacifist tone: “From his juice stand on Library Mall, Karleton Armstrong will hand you a strawberry smoothie and you might never know he was responsible for bombing Sterling Hall 40 years ago.  For the past 30 years, he has lived in Madison as a respectable businessman, the proprietor of Loose Juice, and before that, the popular sandwich shop Radical Rye.” The piece also includes a glowing statement from a friend of Armstrong: “Think of someone coming out of Waupun (prison) for such a major crime and deciding to live right in the cauldron where his family is, and remaking his life in such an admirable way.” If you can, please withhold your admiration for a man who also tried to detonate explosives by dropping them from a plane over an Army ammunition plant in 1969, a man who tried to plant explosives at an electric substation at that same plant, and a man who committed acts of arson on an ROTC facility and a Secret Service facility, and save it for the family man who did nothing more than go to work that fateful night in 1970, when others made a decision that took his life. Forgive and forget though, right Wisconsin State Journal?  The problem is that Armstrong hasn’t exactly expressed remorse for his actions.  Despite the new article claiming that he refuses interviews out of respect for the wife of the man that was murdered, this AP video shows that Armstrong is indeed talking, and that he still considers the bombing to have been ‘the right thing to do.’  In fact, he proudly declares how people come up to him at his juice stand saying, ‘Karl, so glad to meet you, and you really did the right thing.’ The editorial that ran four decades ago warns the University that, “If a great University is to redeem itself – if it is to survive as a proud and free institution – It no longer can take refuge in detached neutrality.” The Wisconsin State Journal would be wise to heed their own advice.
