EXCLUSIVE: Bo Burnham on His Newly-Announced Comedy Tour and MTV Show

It’s been a busy 15 months since Bo Burnham was featured by Movieline in The Verge , and movie roles, tours, network pilots, and Comedy Central specials have all followed. I spoke to the 20-year-old comedy songwriter just this afternoon, and he exclusively announced to Movieline his plans for a brand-new tour called Bo Burnham (No) Friends , which starts in October, the same month as his Comedy Central special, Words, Words, Words . Burnham told Movieline what to expect from his new tour — “weird” seems to be the answer — discussed his new MTV pilot, and imagined a world where Yo Teach! was a reality.

Judd Apatow Still Defending Dick Jokes

I wasn’t kidding when I said that n+1 was here to light up your favorite films and filmmakers with its criticism, and look at that: It took less than a week for Judd Apatow to fire back at an essayist who distilled the appeal of Apatow’s oeuvre to a basic theme: “As long as you behave yourself, take on a modicum of responsibility, and wear the yoke of commitment, it is entirely acceptable — even preferable and profitable — to be stupid.” Interrupting his viewing of Real Housewives of New Jersey , Apatow responded, “I am sure I do have all sorts of problems and shortcomings he can read into the work, but that is the fun in making it. I don’t know what it all adds up to. I just express myself. Maybe one day I will be able to judge it myself but I am too in the middle of it to do it now.” Also: “The only thing more troubling than making jokes about the male penis would be to be serious and honor the male penis.” Now you know. Stacking Jack & Jill Up Against the Fake Adam Sandler Movies in Funny People

The news that Katie Holmes — and, apparently, Al Pacino!? — has been cast in Adam Sandler’s Jack & Jill came as a bit of a shock this morning… if only because it means Jack & Jill still exists. This is the movie that was announced last year with Sandler tapped to play “twin siblings at odds during Thanksgiving.” Seriously? Seriously. If that sounds like the pitch to one of the fake Sandler films from Judd Apatow’s Funny People , that’s probably because it might be. Ahead, Movieline pits Jack & Jill against the oeuvre of George Simmons.

Judd Apatow and Pee-wee Herman Team Up For Film About Stunted Adolescence

Exhibit A in the “Judd Apatow is the comedy version of Quentin Tarantino” argument: The uber-producer is helping Paul Reubens dust off his Pee-wee Herman costume for yet another big screen outing. Said Apatow: “Let’s face it, the world needs more Pee-wee Herman.” And if that sounds familiar, that’s probably because it is a variation on what Tarantino was saying about Pam Grier sometime before Jackie Brown came out. So… what will Pee-wee’s latest big adventure be like?
